      @FabledGentleman 5 лет назад +10

      James Cameron is only working on putting out fires. He knows the movie has too much going on. The original script Cameron wrote was around 3 hours long, in that script, motorball works. But Rodriguez cut 1 hour from the script to make a movie more in his own style, meaning stripping it for emotions and go full Michael Bay. The reason Cameron is in all these interviews and not Rodriguez is so that people will start to think Cameron is the mastermind behind the film, but actually he isn't. And the movie is in danger of flopping completely, meaning tens of millions of dollars in loss for Cameron.Of course he is going to do whatever it takes to make this movie succeed.
      But that statement that motorball had to be in it, is only true if Cameron had made the movie himself with his original script. Rodriguez was the wrong person to make this movie. He simply cannot mix strong emotions with action, he can't do emotions, period.

    • @sjsbmksps
      @sjsbmksps 5 лет назад +4

      @@FabledGentleman Gotta agree that Rodriguez doesn't know the emotion. But we got what we got. I don't believe they weren't prepared for Rodriguez so it's not a right time to pull out our tinfoil hat and think this movie's a flop that begs for saving. WoM and early BO are promising so far.

    • @FabledGentleman
      @FabledGentleman 5 лет назад +1

      @@sjsbmksps No this movie is actually predicted to flop. Just a few weeks ago almost no one knew this film even existed. Only die hard fans and film geeks knew about this film. • @sjsbmksps
      @sjsbmksps 5 лет назад +6

      @@FabledGentleman No, this movie is a wild card. There's no certain prediction for its flop. 50mil tracking for domestic BO is dependent on marketing. WoM is something they heavily rely on. Guess you should never judge a book by its cover or it's trailer lol. Not to mention never second-guess Cameron. Highly recommend this one and the 3D is a must. :b

      What you need to understand is that James Cameron makes "MacDonalds" films - they're the comfort food of cinema. Just like MacDonalds, no matter how many Big Macs are sold to the public (who largely prefer something non-threatening to something deep and layered), Cameron's films aren't ever going to be considered high art.
      If you're asking yourself why critics don't like it, you could equally ask why MacDonalds doesn't have as many Michelin stars as Gordan Ramsay.
      This is why the Oscars are mumbling about adding a "best popular film" category.

    • @erikbecker1957
      @erikbecker1957 5 лет назад +14

      John Smith no. Marvel films are like mcdonalds burgers.
      (In a bad way that is)
      Camerons films are like an awesome slice of New York pizza. It's simplistic but in the best way possible.

    • @egamruf
      @egamruf 5 лет назад

      @@erikbecker1957 I'm not American, and haven't been, so I'll have to take your word for that, but the point about comfort food stands :-)
      I like pizza, I enjoyed Avatar enough, I understand why neither will likely win awards

    • @erikbecker1957
      @erikbecker1957 5 лет назад +2

      John Smith yes, the oscars are definitely a little snobbish as most connoisseurs in art risk to be. A lot of films that won best picture have been completely forgotten now. There's specific types of film that the academy seems to favour.
      Caviar and truffles are fine but there's nothing better than a good slice of pizza, or a juicy cheeseburger.

    • @egamruf
      @egamruf 5 лет назад

      @@erikbecker1957 honestly part of the problem is (no offence) things like you calling them 'snobbish' without considering they just like different things to you. People have different drives and interpretations - they arent obliged to nominate and vote for things they don't like, just like you wouldn't be.
      The problem, if any, is that people incorrectly value the Oscars. Knowing their metrics, and remembering they're an *industry* awards show, it's no wonder that Avatar etc doesn't win. Yes; everyone likes pizza from time to time, but if you put all the restaurateurs in America in a room and asked them to nominate 'best meal' they wouldn't nominate something as simple and easy to make as pizza very often.
      It's also not the fault of the Oscars that it's considered more prestigious than pop-minded awards shows like the MTV Movie Awards, People's Choice etc. They're prestigious because people like directors and actors. Directors and actors prefer the industry awards show. That's why they attend it. None of that means they need to pander to plebs like you and me *shrug*

    My review of ‘Alita:Battle Angel’
    “5/5 stars. I don’t think there’s much more that could be done to make this a better movie than it is. I’m very familiar with the source material, and while I’m comfortable saying that the movie is lovingly true to the original story, it’s still a movie adaptation of a comic book and therefore changes have to be made to tell the story in two hours’ time. Thankfully the changes that were made are welcome ones that don’t negatively impact the story as a whole, but further assist it.
    I went into seeing this cautiously optimistic due to everything I have seen and heard about it in the months leading up to the release date. I know that James Cameron has been wanting to make this movie happen for a very long time, so I knew that he wasn’t just going to half-ass it for a quick buck and call it a day. Nor was Robert Rodriguez, and it absolutely shows.
    My cautious optimism, however, was completely blown out of the damned water. Like, you just sank my battleship, but in a good way...
    I’ve been a fan of the ‘Battle Angel Alita’ comic series since the late 1990’s, so, roughly around the time that James Cameron first announced his intention of adapting the manga to film-it’s been a very, very long road to this point, but the result speaks volumes for itself in the viewing of it.
    Another thing that this film gets right, and in-keeping with the source material, is that it isn’t touched in the least bit by the current, and utterly distasteful, trend of Social Justice politics creeping in and taking over tried and true franchises like Star Trek, Star Wars, Doctor Who, and now the Marvel Comics Universe-Alita doesn’t do that. Alita, doesn’t have to.
    My one qualm with this movie is the fact that it was released on a weekday, and not just any old weekday, but Valentine’s Day. While this doesn’t affect me personally for going to see it, it’s a very poor decision to release it on a day that 1). Is in the middle of a standard work week, and 2). Is also a holiday that (depending on who you ask) might not be the best time for going to the movies. I could be wrong on this one, but I would definitely expect the viewership numbers to be higher on the weekend rather than on a workday.
    Overall, I am thoroughly pleased with this movie adaptation of my end-all-be-all, hands-down, number-one, favorite comic book series. I will definitely be going back for additional viewings and getting the BluRay dvd when it comes out.”

    I loved Battle Angel Alita (i always end up saying it that way round cos of the english name for the manga), i was so worried that hollywood as with almost everything sourced from japanese material wld just end up with all the actual content washed out, (i would say removing the extremes of the violence is part of that, but i can understand that and it can still be fine without)
    I was very intrigued by how soon the motorball was brought in and the way certain things have been changed and reordered and rly hope that Alita will continue to more films

This is how it's done hollywood ! If you are thinking of making films, watch this for some of the best editing you will ever see !!!! Smooth as silk. Great story, great acting, outstanding visual's, superb sound, choice of 3d or not (choice being the word), money well spent, job done ! Whatever your flavour (3d or not to 3d), go see it in IMAX and enjoy. If one film this year deserves to do well, then this is it. Could say alot more, but go and see it and you will understand, last time i felt really happy and that i had made the right choice was "Pacific Rim" (the 1st one) and Avengers:Infinity war.

      @Jenaro Canzina Don't be an idiot, it's not because your tastes don't match those of critics that critics are useless. I'm not seeing this Alita movie because I should've listened to the critics with Avatar. In fact, good critics will tell you what to expect so you know if the movie is for you. And I do in fact disagree with critics a lot, but they're still very useful.

    • @nystagmushorizontalis
      @nystagmushorizontalis 5 лет назад +2

      @@ivanlagrossemoule The thing is that many critiques are uncalled for. Some will tell that the story was complicated or convoluted while in reality it was easy to follow. Some will say that romance was cheesy and/or bad but it was actually a really good depiction of a teenage puppy love scenario. Some will say the characters were flat while in reality Alita is extremely likable and she actually grew really well throughout the movie (other characters do their part very good as well). Some will say that it baits out the sequel without acknowledging the fact it's an adaptation of bigger source material and even tho it doesn't have a definitive ending it does close like an end of an arc. The movie has its flaws - that's for sure. But it can also be felt how much heart was put into this movie and audience reactiona does reflect that.
