I get it that he lives movies and stuff as much as we do but the kung fu panda thing... That scene was as much a kill bill parody is the kill bill version was a parody of (insert old Jackie Chan movie here) reference. I'm a much of a Tarantino fan as anyone but this interview kinda makes him look a bit conceited
The thing I love about this interview is the fact that you get to see how Quentin really is a fan of films and pop culture. Like whatever genre it is, he enjoys watching. He's not the "I don't like this genre, this isn't cinema" type.
Most big name directors are insane cinephiles. These guys can quote obscure dialogues from barely known films from countries not typically known for having a robust movie industry. I've heard Martin Scorcese speak about silent films from the Indian film industry from back in the day.
Great questions. I think Quentin appreciated the thought that went into this interview. As far as songs go, I would say "Son of a Preacher Man" and "Girl, You'll be A Woman Soon". I didn't know either of those songs before seeing Pulp Fiction back in the day.
I love it when actors and directors are nerds of stuff like that because it shows they actually appreciate film making, there's so many directors and actors who are so selfish about their own work but don't care to watch other people's films. One being Jesse Eisenberg.
He is a comic book fan. His character in true romance even works at a comic store. And there’s marvel posters in reservoir dogs. His favorite character is Luke Cage

This host is great, his guests always seem to loosen up and have a truly good time. I think his questions are different then most and bring the best out of the guests because they are answering questions they are not usually asked. @@mrsuperstarxv6006 Firstly, this is not Diane Sawyer. The interviewer is not there to ask Quentin questions about his absentee father and tumultuous childhood. Most interviews are conducted in the same pattern and with the same bland questions, questions that the interviewees have already answered dozens of times. This guy has actually sat down and thought of questions that involve Quentin. I cannot see the problem here.
Mr Superstar XV What do you want? Some inflammatory “hard-hitting” interview of a fucking filmmaker? Quentin’s not running for President. He’s just doing press for a damn movie. Imagine an existence without Tarantino’s films. I have always felt something after watching each of them, like I’ve almost been through a real experience myself, there isn’t one that hasn’t had an impact, even when rewatching them. If you are really familiar with his work, every film, how hard it is to pick one you would say is his best or your favourite, or on the flip side of that question which one is his worst or you hate. The guy is arguably the most influential director of the 21st Century.
If I ever met QT, I’d tell him that when I saw Pulp Fiction in the theater in 1994, the credits rolled at the end and everyone just sat there sort of stunned. No one got up, no one said anything. Everyone knew they had just seen something brilliant, even if they didn’t understand it. A quarter century later, the film still reveals little things with each replay. Sitting in a bar with pals and dissecting QT films over many beers is still just about my favorite social activity in the world.
i know i have a short attention span and yet watching a 2 and a half hour movie with no linear structure, no clear end , not following what the books tell you to.. you need to be talented to a fault to be able to do that
I’m younger so Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction were already classic movies. Kill Bill and Grindhouse came out during my high school and college years. I understood QT liked to pay homage to different genres of films so while I enjoyed the martial arts/samurai cinema and grindhouse style film, I thought his films were done winning Oscars. Then I watched the opening scene with the dairy farmer in Inglorious Basterds. He casts perfectly. I knew Waltz would win the Oscar for his Landa. Thought Leo could’ve won for Django also, Pitt deserved his for Hollywood. While I understand him winning Best Original Screenplay Oscars, how has he not won Best Picture or Best Director?
Which is why Plum is so good here: He poses interesting and revealing questions that QT actually appreciates; as opposed to our inane worship and ass kissing.
archit misal Easy it was the world before 1991. Lol. But I see what you mean. I would be sad if we didn't have his movies. They're all quality in my opinion.
Have you ever thought about the fact that we probably live in a world where an AMAZING director does NOT exist because he died in a car accident or something when he was a child? Because that's the world we live in. Lots of potential great people die every day, so it's really a miracle when geniuses live and do things.

The creativity of the questions really underscored to me the way interviews SHOULD be - it seems like this guy really knew what the fans would want to hear.
This interview is a masterpiece, the interviewer, the editing, Tarantino actually enjoying the interview and answering with enthusiasm, and a shrek reference to top it all, everything is perfect
One thing I love about this interview is that it really shows Tarantino's love of the art form. Especially when he talks about Kung Fu Panda and Shrek as "doing him a favor". Lesser directors would probably be upset that a kids film is "cheapening their work", but not Quentin.
@@gonova8412 Well he did mention where he got the O Ren theme from, Tarantino is fairly open about his inspirations, and look at it this way nearly everything now a days is borrwed from somewhere look at Sergio Leone, he borrowed a shit ton, but it doesnt make his films bad, you know what i mean, thats why Tarantino doesnt get uptight when films borrow his ques.
I love how he loves ALL KIND of movies. He doesn't act like the pretentious type who talks about ""Actual Cinema""". No. He loves/speaks about Indie movies, animated movies, Superhero movies and RESPECTS them all. He seemsreally happy when he talks about pop culture and how he is now a part of it. I agree. That's something about Tarantino that I admire. He's a true cinephile who appreciates all genres of film. Rare to see that in a famous director.
@@asturianix9820, yes, thousands of people said that. MCU fans bully others all the time online and even in real life. They act like MCU is the greatest thing ever and everything else is below to it.

Not a big fan of Radio 1 as a station, but I have to say mad respect to the interviewer here. Tarantino is legendarily difficult to interview because he straight up refuses to play ball with overdone/stupid questions, and right from the off you could see he was thrilled to hear the questions he was being asked. Well played the Beeb.
It's actually not though. It's a parody of martial arts films in general not just Kill Bill. I mean the characters and narrative are very different there's like really few similarities. Kinda of a weird comparison for Quentin to make lol.
Kung Fu Panda is not like Kill Bill. He was just talking about that one scene being a parody. Kill Bill is basically culmination of a bunch of different other movies Tarrintino "lifted" from:. Kung Fu Panda inspired by Kung Fu Hustle.

Al Morar from what Simon pegg said in an interview I kinda don't want tarintino touching it , not saying he's a bad director but he has these certain styles of directing and Star Trek would be weird with mass amounts of blood would just look weird
Al Morar that's what I like about him he has a certain style like Edgar Wright or Guillermo del toro so if he can turn anything into gold I think it should be his own sci fi movie using his style he described his Star Trek idea like pulp fiction in space I'd rather see a original Tarantino sci-fi film rather than a instalment into a well known universe
Al Morar A Tarantino Star Trek film won’t have the same feel as Star Trek. It will end up being Pulp Fiction in Space with Star Trek slapped on top of it.
Yea this dude asks great questions. For a guy like Tarantino who probably gets asked the same questions all day, you can tell he really enjoyed the interview.
My favorite thing about QT as a director and a person, is that he is never quick to judge a movie simply because it was made the way he would. His excitement for things like Kung Fu Panda, Shrek, and even the MCU is so refreshing to see in a director as revered as he is. Also, Inglorious Basterds is one of my all time favorite movies.
He has a very vast taste for media. From unheard of foreign films, comic books, etc. so it wasnt a big surprise he also enjoys everything these days unlike other movie figures who are too stuck up to appreciate anything outside of their realm.
@@akattom if you’re talking about Scorsese get real. Kung Fu Panda definitely takes notes from Kill Bill, but it isn’t a Kill Bill parody. It’s an homage to the Kung Fu genre, of which it naturally follows similar beats to Kill Bill. I think Quenton sounded like he thinks Kill Bill was the beginning of Kung Fu cinema, or something ridiculous like that.
@@DoctorCyan are you serious dude? The kung fu genre? First of all it’s the samurai genre. Kill bills are SAMURAI movies. Second look up lady snow blood to see the staggering stealing of shots. Also the lady snowblood movies are great and would reccomend. Kill bill 1 also has western influences
The little montage at the end is almost somewhat emotional as a fan of this bloke! Tarantino has a lot of opinions that float around about him, a lot of them can be pretty nasty and hateful (and while I can understand some of them, it's still a touch odd), yet for me and many others the guy is such a peoples' filmmaker! He loves his audiences, and he loves movies even more - and for that he should always be appreciated regardless of what you may think of him. Ali brings out the best in him here, great interview!!
