- Last night, Michael Carcone had a hat trick but Liam O'Brien and Jack McBain each recorded a Gordie Howe hat trick making it the first time in 35 years that 2 players on the same team did so and yet non of that was the coolest part. The last time this was done was in 1988 when the Jets beat the Flames 9-0 when it just so happened to be Peter Taglianetti and Andrew McBain who each recorded the Gordie howe Hat trick.

Peter Taglianetti, that's a name I haven't heard in a long time. We played youth hockey together in Framingham, MA. He towered over everyone in the age class and wore a purple helmet. We called him "Grape Ape" after the 1970s cartoon character.

I always find it interesting that it's the "Gordie Howe hat trick" considering he only did it twice in his career. I also know it's just the name they gave it and it stuck.

I never really thought about that before but yeah two teammates both having Gordie Howe hat tricks in the same game is extremely rare, and that makes it even more nuts that the last time it happened it was McBain's dad.

Arizona's gotten a raw deal in my opinion. I don't know enough to really comment, but they're playing in a college rink. I haven't done that since, well, I was in college. LOL The coolest thing about stepping onto the rink in college are the little kids. They all look up to you in such awe. It's not like college football where you're a country mile away from everything. If I somehow end up with Demetia, I'll never forget that look. My dream wasn't an NHL dream. It was an Olympic dream. I think wearing USA on your jersey must be the most humbling experiences ever. Go figure, my only year I had a shot was 1980!

I remember me and my dad would walk down to Victoria village arena to watch the don mills flyers and Mcbain was the captain
LOL, that is absolutely nuts. Not at all surprised it was a Smyth division rivalry when it last occurred. We are biased in Winnipeg but we always lament that if at least one of the Oilers or Flames sucked in that era, the Jets would have, at the least, gone to Cup final or two. The team was very very good and unfortunately played in the same division as the two other juggernaut teams that ran the Campbell Conference for 10 years.

I love how the last time it happened was with the flames and the jets. The flames moved from Atlanta and the Thrashers left and turned back into the Jets. The old Jets left and became the Coyotes. To top it off the “Atlanta” Gladiators (based in Duluth AKA almost an hour from where the Thrashers played) are the ECHL affiliates of the Coyotes. For Atlanta to have been out of hockey since 2011 we sure love to keep being intertwined in it😂
