Thanks, It’s actually a good explanation of how take apart this popular lens, it’s also good that you show other parts during the disassemble process, because it’s not everything that is covered in the repair manual. A very important thing during the disassemble process is to set small scratches with a very pointy tool, before take out For example the front lens or the zoom brush, it will make it a lot more easy when assemble the parts again because you have the correct position of the part. It was just a few notes that maybe could help other people. Keep up your good work 😊👍🏻 I subscribe

      Hello Professor Olsen,
Firstly it is an honour having you to my channel, plenty of the experience I've gained with lenses is thanks to you and your channel. Every time I was getting into one of your repair instructions/videos, I was completely hooked from the beginning to the end of the process, so a big Thank You for the big effort of what you do. This is one of my first video of la zoom lens teardown, after many years of practice I decided to share some experience, even if still on learning on this lenses world.
During the teardown I was trying to explain the points where to put signs on the lens, but definitely next ones to come I will be more careful and consider putting a sign if necessary.
      All the best, Cosmin.

Great explanation, thank you very much!
Would you think it is possible to use a more sticky (professionale-grade) lens grease to dampen the zoom mechanics? It would be amazing, if this lens could behave a bit more like a proper cine zoom ;-)

      Thanks!
Sadly to say, but no. Photographic lenses have nothing to do with cinematic lenses. A proper cine lens use bearings for a longer and smoother feel and lifespan, are almost entirely in metal and not plastic like photo lens do.

Thanks for the video, this is really helpful for me. I took apart my lens years ago to clean the front lens and I think I spoiled the calibration when I put it back together. I didn't know the front could be taken off and took the whole lens apart from the back. Now the autofocus at wide angle does not work well. The autofocus only goes half way to focus. I think maybe the position of the contactor brush needs to be adjusted. If you have some comments on that and calibration for a part 2 of the video that would be really helpful.

Ah, it was one of the ribbon cables not fully inserted into the board. OOPS!

HI there, glad to hear you sort it out, second part it's a bit confusing, so I'm trying to make it easier/better before I will add it.

Is it possible to remove only the front glass/element without removing everything else? I’ve got a fungus and I think it’s on the back side of the front element.

    Thanks for this
But just want to clarify that I can replace the barrel filter by only taking off the front element and then the barrel filter itself ?

No quick fix with such thing, you will need to dismantle it, remove and place new grease.

this is a long shot since i see its been a while since this video was made but what happened to part 2. I disassembled a lens while watching this video now I need to look for another video that explains everything so well since it seems you never uploaded the rest of this tutorial. 😑

Part two is so complex that I find it hard to explain, also you need alignment tools, extremely hard to do it, maybe one day 🙂. Need more subscribers 😬
