This is a Very well done video as far as it goes! One of the main failure issues with electronic lenses is communication from the body either aperture, focus or stabilization, and repair involves replacing the Lens Contact Bridge Assembly (CG2-2311-000). I encourage covering this as many will find it helpful (and your production quality is excellent!)
Hi Chris, thank you for your message. Regarding the communication issue, there's one thing that I would have to say, the lens contact shoe tends to worn out significantly more than the camera contact shoe, don't know in your case, but to me, replacing the camera contact bridge happened extremely rare, and that because of a physical damage (pins stuck) or water damage (oxidation), at least on Canon cameras. Also, another big factor is the lens mount lock hole, with time tends to worn out if not used with care, and the lens connection may get out of its position, furthermore there is bad communication with the camera. Anyhow, that's a good point, this problem could be covered on a video regarding camera and lens communications issues.
Wow, incredible video. I work in vintage motorcycles and was completely unaware that it was possible to dismantle and repair cameras and lenses. I'm completely in awe of your work and the accompanying commentary. I own a 5D Mark ii and really enjoyed seeing it's internal works. Would it be possible for you to do a video discussing the tools you use and if it is possible to obtain spare parts. Thank you.
Hey, thanks, in my pipeline of things, but I'm very busy with some other things at the moment, still, I'm trying to bring back to life this channel. I have a bigger surprise, but wouldn't get that soon, unfortunately. Stay tuned!
Your explanation was nice and clear, thank you! I need to change tripod damaged nut and 1- I do not sure I can open (only)the bottom cover. 2- where you suggest to buy a replacement nut. Thank you in advance
Hi thanks, you will need to take off the back, front and bottom covers. I might have the replacement in case you’re interested. Check out my info page for contact details.
That was beautiful, should have seen this before I opened one of my uni's 5DMII. I fixed the pins in the CF port, but now the LCD won't turn on :( everything seems to be in place, but the connecting film seems to be bent and slightly whitish in here 6:40, right there over the black locking piece. Is this film that delicate or could it be because I touched it with no gloves? If broken, what's its name to at least buy it 😢 I was trying to save time and money but now I see I doubled both of them. Hope you see this. Lovely artisan work
Hi Thank you for your excellent video and I have a question. I wonder just some of Canon 5d mark 2models have memory slot on-off switch or all of them have to have it. Because it seems my camera does not have one. Thank you for your time
Got this camera for cheap from an industry flea market, only issue is two pins in the CF slot are bent. So I'm going to follow this and another guide on getting to the reader, unbending the pins. And then I'll get my camera working.
Hey, did you fix your problem? If not, the autofocus unit needs calibration once it is disassembled, I believe, only canon can do that, unfortunately. What you can do instead, you could get a mirror box with the focus unit ambled, that should solve your problem. Are you sure is that the issue?
Excellent work. I have a question, I hope I have time to answer. The on/off switch on the 5D Mark II camera I use is stuck in the ON position, so I can't turn the camera off and I can't activate Quick Control Dial 1, how can I fix this? I appreciate your shared experience. Greetings from El Salvador.
Amazing breakdown video and thanks for doing this. My 5D mark i’s hotshoe is intermittent with a godox pro. Direct flash placement doesn’t help either. The intermittent connection is with a sync cable. How easy is it to replace the hotshoe and where do you think I may get the parts? Thanks in advance!
Thanks, you will need to open up the camera and check if there's any bad connection at the pinpoint from inside. Check this video of the canon 6D where I'm explaining few things on that particular point ruclips.net/video/mF1ysEnEatA/видео.html. Before you consider to open up the camera, check that plate that I'm taking off from the hot shoe and ensure is free of rust! You will need to disassemble the back, front and top cover to reach the hot shoe connections. Actually, I'm working on a 5D classic teardown, but it might take me another couple of weeks until it goes online.
Thank you for this excellent video! Could you please let me know which the correct screwdriver type and size is for these screws, I think it is different from the regular star or Philips type?
I think we can put the screws back by unscrewing them couple of times. Like that we cannot put that part back and/or loose them, neither miss place them. BUT, do you know how the sensor can be repositioned once I get to it and replace the mirror box reflector motor unit for CANON 5D MARK II.. On my camera the is faulty, having Error Code 20..
If you have a shutter failure but the original blades are not damaged then you will need to replace the whole shutter. Replacing the shutter will fix the problem only when the blades are damaged, otherwise the mechanical part of the shutter is compromised.
Great, very useful video, thanks! Quick question if I may; to change the Outer LCD Display Glass on this camera do I have to remove the back and do it from the inside or is it done from the outside? Thanks Caula
Thanks. Not necessarily, you can use a suction cup and a hear dryer without disassembling anything. Worm up the glass (must be hot to touch but not extremely hot) and use the suction cup To extract it. With this method be careful to not touch the lcd, any dirt or hands fingerprints on the lcd would be impossible to clean.
I'm going to begin trying to repair my model, it no longer powers on and does not offer any indication that any power is getting through, the access lamp does not flash when turning it on. I think I should be checking the power board to see if a fuse is blown?
The focusing screen is one of the most difficult part to clean, I’ve spent a long time to be able to clean it and even now I may end up failing. One side is shaped with nano-lenses so whatever you touch it with you will end up by damaging it. Maybe one day I’ll make a video about, explaining by text is almost impossible. The only thing you could do is by blowing some air to it with a blower, also the viewfinder optics gets dirty so this is a topic that need a proper video.
@@CameraRestore I was planning on removing my focusing screen on my 5D Mark I, which looks easy to do, then rinsing it under luke warm water to get any particles off. I could dry it by patting it down with a micro-fiber cloth or blow dry with a hair dryer set to cool setting. Would this be an acceptable technique?
I have a 5D MK II and the shutter button isn't working. Autofocus works, but pressing the button further does not release the shutter. Is it common for the contact switch to fail in the shutter portion? I'm hopeful the camera can be fixed by changing out the shutter/aperature wheel assembly.
Actually not, unless got damaged by moisture or water. On this model, the AF/Shutting is very well build. Are you sure you didn't mess around with the menu in some way? Did you check by setting up M mode on the camera without a lens mounted? Try with a remote control, if that works, very probably the button needs replacement. In case you require the part, drop me mail at: info@camerarestore.co.uk, I should have it in stock.
I've got two 5DM2 camera bodies. One doesn't power up, which happened suddenly, during shipping. The other powers up, but nothing shows on any screens, and the shutter snaps slowly. I don't think it records an image to the CF card. Any suggestions?
First one I’ll focus on the dc/dc power board, second one might be a mainboard damage, try to swap the motherboard from the good one and see what comes out…
Hi my 5D Mark II suddenly does not switch on anymore. LCD lights up but no menu shows up viewfinder remains empty. On some lenses when I put it on MF the shutter fires the red light blinks but nothing is recorded (40 2.8) when I put it on AF lens does not move and Live View releases shutter. With some other lenses the shutter does not fire at all regardless and view finder is dark (24-105 L) . I replaced the clock battery and tried with 2 different fully loaded main batteries. no difference. DC/DC power board or main board failure in your opinion ?
I'm trying to identify what board has failed on mine, has no power to any lcd or the eyepiece display. It can activate the shutter but only in certain modes (af failure?). If I plug in the hdmi cable I can get see the rear screen output and see images etc but the camera will not record an image even if the shutter exposes, not even a black image.
