I love how instead of overfishing, you guys seem to breed and grow even more oysters than you harvest, and allow them to free-range, while remaining productive! seems very beautiful, fruitful, and sustainable!
My grandpa would sit with his buddies for hours and they would play euchre, drink Hamms beer and eat raw oysters right out of a one gallon plastic jug. I will never forget that. A few of them would give it a few shots of Worcestershire sauce before slurping them down, but they were always raw. They finally got me to try one and I could not get it down! Like trying to swallow a large luggie...and not even your own! I threw up and they handed me a Hamms to wash it down. Now THAT i was able to swallow, and thus began my beer drinking life.
The big blue oyster farm is the former sandbanks ferry. Built 1958, sold off 1994. Worked several summers on it. Powered by 3 Lincoln Rushton engines, diesel electric system.
+kevin O oysters along the shores of the US on european settlement were said to have been up to 13" in length and people would cut them into chunks before eating
Great Vid. I love the whole idea of oysters. I have my own secret oyster ground and 100 stashed in a lantern net. Kept em thru the winter suspended from my wharf in Cape Breton.
I've walked past that hatchery shown at the start. It's in Kent near Reculver towers: Seasalter Shellfish - Whitstable Ltd. Never eaten oysters myself though - vegetarian
Notice how most of the How It's Made videoes, featuring some kind of food(mostly seafood), always has the speaker mention the product being farmed, due to polution or massive consumption. Sad.
Eat only the smaller ones. The big ones are like biting into a jelly roll. Only it's not jelly, it's algae. Not good. Oysters are a great treat, but be a selective, careful consumer.
That was cool to watch. I've been eating oysters for years and never realized that the oysters I've consumed were probably "manufactured" in a hatchery such as this. Very interesting indeed.
a nice caldo/broth.. with fish ,oysters, baby shrimp, Celery, carrots ,mexican rice on the side, With a bottle of hot sauce and lemon thats all i can think about when i see oysters.. that or just opening up a nice can of fancy smoked oysters... or going to the market and buy some fresh oysters, lime and lemon tabasco little bit of soy sauce and im good to go ..my mouth waters bruh ,with any seafood in general, probably the reason how my wife got pregnant last year and probably the reason why she's pregnant again
They do not, at least not in the way humans do however, tests show that plants react to stimuli from various sources such as ripping of a part of them. Much like animals, plants detect the "pain", but unlike them, they do not express it in sounds, or alteration of functions. Also, there are plants that have what could be considered a "nervous sistem" in the stem. Obviously, this is an area that is still under study, and it is heavily debated as to wether plants do feel pain as we understand it or not. I only posted that because the original post was easily one of the dumbest things I read that week, including 4chan.
***** Don't we only feel "pain" to know we're getting hurt, and to get away from what we're getting hurt by? Even if plants do have nervous systems, and do "feel" "pain", it's probably not in the...painful way we do. It's probably either some kind of pressure, or maybe not even some kind of touch sensory. Maybe it's just a message to tell the plant "Hey, you're gonna die soon...peace". It wouldn't really make any sense for plants to evolve to get hurt when they "feel pain".
That... is somewhat what I typed. So yeah, you're right. Thing is, even the fact that they feel something is object to debate, so at most the experts will agree that there are signals of "something" but to tell the truth, fuck all if they know exactly what.
awww I remember that time when I was starving and ate 40 oysters, I felt like I was having a heart attack. I whent home and slept from friday night to sunday afternoon. I think I'll go get a box this weekend.
What do people prefer when having shucked oysters? Washed or left with oyster liquor? I shucked oysters for awhile when I was younger and always did washed and prefer that.

3:49 Crab: "I'm not suppose to be here!"
Damn... How are oysters NOT more expensive than they already are?! This looks like an extremely costly and laborious process.
This was, unexpectedly, very interesting!
Yep *Continues watching*
at 4:20, does that huge Oyster cost more? Inedible? I know nothing about Oysters nor do I eat them, just wondering!

3:50 Mr. Krabs.
Notice how most of the How It's Made videoes, featuring some kind of food(mostly seafood), always has the speaker mention the product being farmed, due to polution or massive consumption. Sad.
Why is massive consumption sad?
When there is massive consumption, the animals affected will usually extinct.
***** Dude.....
Cody Morgan LOL.
***** Haha I wanted to say that but then I don't think he will be able to understand. :p
I dream to eat oysters three meals a day I love them so much
When I say this video title I was like "One does not simply MAKE oysters" :P
Eat only the smaller ones. The big ones are like biting into a jelly roll. Only it's not jelly, it's algae. Not good. Oysters are a great treat, but be a selective, careful consumer.

Josh R thats bonus right there.
The worker carefully pick it up and placed it inside a steamer. Crab for lunch
nice, I like that the oysters are placed back into the environment. That is a benefit to the environment.
+hershey989
It's not. It's based on the nervous system structure. Oysters have no central nervous system.
This is so efficient that you almost forget they’re alive
That crab is like "GET ME THE FUCK OUT OF HERE!!!!!!!111"
That was cool to watch. I've been eating oysters for years and never realized that the oysters I've consumed were probably "manufactured" in a hatchery such as this. Very interesting indeed.
JohnReviewer112 What do you think the quotation marks were supposed to signify? He/she is well aware of this fact.
I eat raw oysters direct from the sea without the uv treatment and I haven't been sick yet.
Whoa tiny baby oysters are crazy! Size of specs but already have a shell!
They forgot to mention the part where they destroy the natural habitat for wild corals and others alike to harvest these oysters.
the final 'depuration' can do with a protein skimmer as well; I call that stabulation for transport
3:50 that a poor crab..😀
That crabs just chillin, enjoying the ride

Oysters to crab: One of us! One of us!
FUCK... no wonder why oysters are expensive.
That's what I said lol
hi lol
That crab now has a compelling story to tell his grandkids.
False title. This video only shows how to catch and prepare oysters, but not how to make oysters from scratch.
I never realized that baby oysters could be so adorable
0:05 you can smoke them?
You can shoot them ?
I've had oysters from that region before and absolutely amazing
+hershey989 If it makes you feel any worse, oysters don't feel pain, but plants do, and they die to feed you.
How do you know plants feel pain? i was not aware they had pain receptors?
They do not, at least not in the way humans do however, tests show that plants react to stimuli from various sources such as ripping of a part of them. Much like animals, plants detect the "pain", but unlike them, they do not express it in sounds, or alteration of functions.

What if sand is made of dead baby oysters?
Sand is made of rocks.
Are you feeling okay?
It isen't :P
how can sand be real if oysters aren't real?
its called the carbon cycle, sand is made from the shells of dead marine life.
That crab was like hey get me off of here man!
"The babies" :(
3:49

+Baked Bean Sigel Why do you say that (genuinely curious).

So that's how oysters are made amazing. I always ask my parents when they would go out and pick them how they make more.
1:06 Did i just watch oyster porn??
even better, you watched an oyster sex club.
Yea, it was a foursome. 0_0
***** wtf?
I can't stop thinking about Zerg when she's explaining the whole hatchery-spawn larva thing :))
1:07 DEMONETIZED
The first person to ever eat an oyster: "This looks like a rock, but I'm going to cut it in half to make sure I can't eat it."
That crab just had the weirdest experience of his life
So eating an oyster straight out of the sea is actually a really bad idea because it's not been through depuration?
awww I remember that time when I was starving and ate 40 oysters, I felt like I was having a heart attack. I whent home and slept from friday night to sunday afternoon. I think I'll go get a box this weekend.
what did mr. crab ever do to oyster
He picked and lined them up so that the conveyer/dredger will pick them up and the people will drop money below.
awwwww baby oysters are so cuteeeeeee
That crab on the conveyor belt is all like "Oh Noes! I'm not an oyster! You got the wrong seafood!"
man to waiter," Do you serve crabs"?
waiter to man,"mister, we serve anybody".
Yeah, that is very true. Gastroenteritis that is, eye infection is also possible, but probably not as likely as gastroenteritis.
Interesting.... Ive been an oyster farmer for years and never seen it done this way at all
lol the crab. Hes like what the hell im not an oyster
I love oysters. Had a friend make them once with his special recipe. Mmm
Amazing. I've never really thought about this.

What do people prefer when having shucked oysters? Washed or left with oyster liquor? I shucked oysters for awhile when I was younger and always did washed and prefer that.
“They grow to the size of a speck”. Ah yes, that consistent size thing that is a speck!
Thanks for putting my 3 year old to sleep! It's 12:30 am here!
