Kirby's Dreamland 3 and Kirby 64 actually were re-rated when they were rereleased, from "E" to "T".
Stuntman ignition and dirt 4 and Override 2 super mech league and goat simulator and Cel damage HD and War world were rated T but the games should be rated E10,Halo franchise before 5 and Doom 93 and Prey 2017 and Slayers X Vengeance of the Slayer and Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen and Legendary 2008 and Inside and Killer is Dead and Mass effect and X-Men Origins Wolverine and Warhammer 40k boltgun and Half life 1 & 2 is rated M but the games should be rated T.
Just the Senran Kagura games in general
Pokémon Legends Arceus should’ve gotten the E10+ rating considering how it was a bit darker than most Pokémon games as Pokémon could actually kill you.
Definitely Shadow the Hedgehog. The Entertainment Software Rating Board should have Shadow the Hedgehog been rated T for Teen.
The reason for Arkham Knight getting an M rating is because of Professor Pyg side mission honestly the game and so much potential but all that was wasted with the Batmobile taking up 95% of boss fights.
I don’t think is something to do with Professor Pyg, the real reason Arkham Knight was getting an M Rating is because of torture scenes with Jason Todd and psychological stuff with Joker.
There's also a strip club sign and a character commits su!c!de on screen.

Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity should have gotten a E 10+ rating instead of T. It’s not any more violent than any of the other Zelda games/ spinoffs.
Every single M-Rated game that lists "Nudity" and "Strong Sexual Content" in their content rating.
The ESRB has openly stated that games feature full out nudity or graphic sex scenes that literally happen on screen are guaranteed to get the dreaded Adults Only rating. But there are literally hundreds maybe even thousands of games that have those stuff; and simply got away with a M-Rating. In fact, most people I know aren't even aware that there even is an age rating exceeding the M for Mature rating. Only 24 games got those ratings, with 2015's Hatred being the first game in nearly a decade to even get such a rating. And most of them even got rerated to a M rating for some reason. It's also especially video games that are literally marketed as Porn/Hentai games including games with Porn/Hentai in the title, are of the Porn/Hentai/Adult Games Genre, or if any specific game's entire content is literally nothing but pornographic/fetish stuff. As such, all Leisure Suit Larry games, Hentai High, Waifu Battles, pretty much all the great games made by Rockstar unfortunately, the God of War games, Baldur's Gate 3, the Mafia series, the Duke Nukem games, Witcher 3, and a whole bunch more should honestly be given the AO-rating by the OP's logic.
Of course, this would prevent all these games which some are widely regarded as among the greatest games of all time to even get as popular or financially successful as they are. All of the big three video game consoles have officially banned AO-rated games on their platform. I see why Nintendo did, Microsoft banning AO games from Xbox sounds a bit OOC given how Xbox has always been known for most of the appeal games being M for mature (Though gun violence =/= sex), and Sony outright has made games that would really be AO-rated by ESRB logic. And of course, all the companies making those games would be infuriated if ESRB slapped the age rating on their games that caused them to have poor reception. But really, there should be some kind of consistency on this policy. Like either nuke the existence of the AO-rating outright or start labeling them all more.
Actually 26 games if you go by Wikipedia's list. The most recent game to get the Kryptonite AO rating was Agony in 2018. The developers cut, and censored content to get down to M. And there was one AO game that got that rating for gambling.

@@Badass-Dalty no. AO is still on the books, but given its Kryptonite reputation, it is functionally extinct in the wild. That rating at any time can be issued to any game that warrants it.

Funny thing is that we're at a time where games get their ratings updated, like how Shantae and the Pirate's Curse as well as Seven Sirens started with an E10+ rating but got changed to T over time. Also, A Hat in Time was originally E10+ on PS4, Xbox One, and Steam, yet the Switch port was rated T, so the rating on other consoles changed the E10+ to a T.
That explains a lot. I always saw A Hat in Time as an E10+ game and wondered why it had a T rating.
In 1999, some prints of Spyro 2 and GTA 2 was both a T rating for some unknown reason before correcting the error later.
Kirby 64 hilariously got a T Rating on Nintendo Switch Online because of the final boss (Zero 2) bleed every time Kirby hits him. The original game on the Nintendo 64 originally had a E rating.
It got a E10+ rating in the Kirby's Dream Collection re-release.
It was the collection rated T due to it including Winback and GoldenEye.
The original Majora's Mask wasn't E10 because that rating didn't exist at the time. Some countries would probably say the older Pokemon games need a higher rating due to the Game Corner

You're not wrong about Pokémon. The Game Corner stopped appearing pretty much because the European rating system now requires a higher rating for even mild "gambling references".
Portal 1 had blood spatter upon being shot by turrets, something which was removed for its sequel.
There's an easy explanation for why Xbox, PS2, and Gamecube games got higher ratings than what we think they should have, after the violent video game scare of the 90's, parents were getting more paranoid as video game graphics started getting more and more realistic, that's why games like Halo got an M rating even though it's not really anymore violent than the more modern teen rated Halo games
Funnily enough, I feel like the 6th Gen (PS2, GameCue, Xbox, Dreamcast era) had a good balance of E, T and M rated games. Nowadays, it’s everything or nothing. Like, when’s the last time you saw a Teen/13+ rated game this Gen?….or in the last decade for that matter

Captain Keyes' death in Halo Anniversary is worth an M rating in itself. But in the original you can't see much, I didn't even know it was him, so the original and the other games should be rated T.

Now that I look back at it, Banjo-Tooie should have been rated T or E10+ if it existed at the time. Lord Woo’s name contains a word that sounds too much like a certain curse word. Also, two of the characters names in the game contain a word that is a British slang term for part of a woman’s anatomy…
E10 makes more sense.
Don't forget about the path leading up to Mumbo's Home in Pterrydactyland(probably misspelled it), when seen from above, it looks, let's say, phallic.
That Snatcher still hasn't been re-released is criminal... I don't want to buy Mega CD for just to play one single game...
What’s odd is that there’s really no reason why Konami shouldn’t be able to rerelease it for modern platforms. For starters, it’s technically a Metal Gear game and is even canon.

Honorable Mention: Smash Ultimate (Game Should've been Rated T for Teen for Mild Violence, Blood, Mild Language, Tobacco & Alcohol Reference & Partial Nudity)
I actually thought Brawl deserved the T rating because of the Subspace Emissary, especially where there was some blood coming out of Master Hand after Tabuu killed him.

Shadow was gonna be rated T, but during development, the E10+ rating was created, so they then decided to target that instead.

Paper Mario TTYD remake should be on here. That game should’ve been rated E10 instead of E, especially with the amount of hidden adult jokes & dark elements that game had. The original on the GameCube getting an E rating is excusable since the E10 rating didn’t exist at the time of the original game’s release

I would also say the MGS franchise could be T, taking out some more explicit swear words and some of the gore.
Zone of the Enders. Both the first and second. The first got the M rating because it came with the Metal Gear Solid 2 demo, and the second because a cutscene near the beginning of the game had Dingo getting shot four times in the chest and lungs by the game’s main villain, Nohman.
So how about Xenogears. That game is really REALLY dark to be rated T for Teen, like I use that as a reason why we need a rating between T and M
A T-15 or M-15 rating. I also think we need a PG-15 or R-15 rating for movies as well.

I remember when Mega Man: The Wily Wars for Sega Genesis was originally going to be released in the U.S., the early package on front showed an MA-13 rating which was equivalent to a T rating today. When I play the game years later, I see no reason why it was given that rating.

Star Fox Adventures being Teen rated still baffles me, it's no more violent than most Zelda games, but having the female lead being a sexy tribal space vixen might have had something to do with the rating.

I think the scene where they explored Athena’s past covered in blood might of led to the m rating. however the Apollo justice trilogy is rated t despite that game’s inclusion with no changes to the scene in question

I'm surprised Saint's Row 2022 isn't on this list. I get the series is M for Mature, but after hearing the only nature content the 2022 reboot had going for it is nudity and guns, it still isn't worth being called M for Mature

Dead Or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball had no reason to get an M rating. It was no more offensive than going to the beach or looking at a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition.
But it features sexual content that can make a RUclips video age restricted.
Regarding to Shadow the Hedgehog, true, it was going to be rated T, but you can find trailers, and even demos of the uncensored version. Unfortunately, you won’t find every footage from the Teen version.

Nighty nine night in question has always confused me of its m rating. At least the sequel had more gore so that made more sense
Devs are scared of a game being rated AO due to financial concerns. To this day, GTA: San Andreas is the only mass-sold game to be given such a rating, and even then it wasn’t original. The trigger: the infamous Hot Coffee mod, made inaccessible to players until hackers made it available, forcing the game’s recall and Rockstar to remove the mod via patch, and the ESRB requiring a thorough review of cut content

I've had an idea for a few years. To make a game but have it released in several versions, one for every rating of ESRB or PEGI. It would be funny to see the contrast between the AO and E versions, or EC (early childhood) if it was still used.
The question would be what kind of game it would be. Maybe a shooter?
EC was officially discontinued in 2018. And AO is essentially Kryptonite, in the same vein as a movie with an NC-17 rating. AO to date has only been formally issued by the ESRB in its nearly 30 year existence (30 this September) only 26 times, with the most recent example being Agony in 2018.
E rating: Shoot bubbles at enemies that disappear in flashes
E10 rating: Shoot projectiles at enemies that disappear but appear to get hurt
T rating: Normal battle royale/hero shooter violence
M rating: Bloody and gory violence
AO rating: Enemies explode with graphic nudity
I prefer talking about movie’s rating, which are a joke in the US. Many PG movies nowadays clearly are G

Majora's Mask for N64 had the right rating. E10 wasn't established until 2005 and giving Majora's Mask a "T" rating back in 2000 would've been stupid. And on the subject of E10, Shadow the Hedgehog was AIMING FOR THE E10 RATING, therefore heavily censoring it as a result. Giving it a T rating would've also been stupid and also would've turned the fans off from the Sonic franchise.
The Nintendo DS version of Bionicle Heroes has a Teen rating, making it the first and only LEGO game to get a Teen rating from the ESRB (LEGO Fortnite doesn't count). And if you want to go further, CERO rates the LEGO games B ratings (12) and the USK (Germany) gave some LEGO games 12 ratings, as sometimes the USK rating system can differ from PEGI where they might give a 12 on a game that has a PEGI 7 rating.
I'm surprised Earthbound isn't on the list. Originally it was rated K-A (old version of the E-rating), but when re-released it got rated T, and it's kinda baffling when it's such a lighthearted and cartoonish RPG. Yes, there's Giygas but I don't think he's that much more disturbing than what you have in Majora's Mask, for example. An E10+ rating would've done the job, same goes to Earthbound Beginnings which is even tamer than Earthbound.

Well, E10 really doesn’t mean anything anymore. But,perhaps Pokémon Legends Arceus considering that Pokémon can actually kill you in the game.
Actually, nothing graphic is seen, and you just faint and wake up at camp, losing a few items.
Don't forget Bendy and the Ink machine, while a horror game, it's fairly tame compared to most games, and only has ink blood and some mild language, so I think the game could've gotten away with E10+ considering what the Zelda games get away with. Yeah, Dark Revival probably more earns the T rating
I played perfect dark since it came out in 2000 and I was only 12 years old. That game did not need to be rated m for mature. The violence is not even that much more than its spiritual predecessor GoldenEye. The others more blood in perfect dark than there is in GoldenEye but really doesn't look real enough to need to be an m rating. Yes perfect dark has swearing in it, however I still don't think that's a good enough reason to make it an m rating. Besides rare could have just gotten rid of the swearing altogether to try to make it a t rating but I don't know if it would have been a t rating at that point so I guess they just decide fuck it and just have swearing in it.
There isn't even any swearing in any of the cutscenes It just comes from the bad guys occasionally when they see you. Not often like someone will say holy shit. The president of the United States says "What the hell was that?" Although honestly hell isn't even really a swear word, but I have noticed when I used to have the language filtered turned on he wouldn't say that line. Honestly I keep the filter turned off.
Princess Peach Showtime should have gotten a E rated. E10 was completely unnecessary.

Hexen 2 would get an M rating for its action, violence, and gore in a similar level of Quake. Hexen 2 is one of the (if not the) first games derived from the original Quake engine. Perhaps Hexen 2 may receive an M rating for its remaster.

I feel a forgotten game called second sight should be on this list.. The game was pretty dark no gonna lie, our protagonist can kill nearly anybody he wants even the normal people who are just doing their jobs like police officers, maids, cleaners & workers, caged test subject animals except his companions ofc, there was gore in the game as whenever we get shot or shoot someone the blood would splatter over the walls nearby, dead bodies leds to pool of blood on floor and will lead to trail of blood when walked by them, protagnist has alot of pyschic powers and one of them is introduced by him snapping an innocent gaurds neck when he gets seen by him, some missons different approach of doing it like for example : in one level you have to either negotiate with a group thugs by doing small chores to meet our former comrade who is like a leader or in good terms with these people, but we can just kill everybody and directly go up to his home too... Mind you these people were helping him in being undercover from goverment..
Well I think it got T rating because it didn't had any nudity or swearing, but still the environment and bgm was extremely dark as it somewhere near and psychological horror thriller... It's highly underrated game I recommend y'all to play it once

I remember when Halo first came out I couldn't buy it because the rating. So I found some random guy at Walmart and asked if he could buy it for me. He agreed. He was like just go back around the shelf. I forget how much I had, but I remember having change and just told him to keep it for his troubles 😂😂.
I bet another reason why Arkham Knight got an M rating is because of how you can drive the Batmobile all over the city and plow through enemies like they are bowling pins. The game “justifies” it by showing the enemies get zapped from touching the Batmobile, implying they are only stunned, but it still basically allows you to run people down in a high speed car, GTA style (and realistically you would be killing people, the whole shock thing seems like a thin hand wave)

Older Halo games were rated M when they barely had blood or strong violence. Definitely should have been rated T. It’s wasn’t till Halo 5 that it is now rated T.

A game series that might be re-rated if it was released today, I think, would be the Lunar series. Both games had nude scenes (though of the Barbie doll anatomy type) and while the ones in game 1 were brief and optional, game 2 had a lot more, and all part of the main story. Both games also featured female characters in revealing outfits and loads of innuendo and sexual jokes in the NPC dialogue, but I think the biggest difference would be the bromides, hidden sexy photos the players could collect of the cast. These days, with fanservice in anime becoming more frowned upon, the bromides would be more likely to be seen as objectifying rather than acceptable. Not to mention that some of the bromides in game are treated as illicit pictures taken of the female cast by various NPCs, somewhat giving a *wink wink* acceptance towards stalkerish behavior.

I will defend Shadow the Hedgehog's rating. Just because a game might have a darker tone and some mature themes doesn't mean that it won't be appropriate for younger audiences. Nothing violently graphic or sexually explicit is presented in the game, and unless you count damn as a swear word, there's no foul language either
Shadow 05 wasn't even dark at all, in-fact i believe that it's a less darker game than Black Knight and Sonic 06.

I would add Dark Souls to this list for having an M rating when it really deserved a T rating. Sure there’s some blood and fantasy violence, but it’s hardly deserving of a mature rating. It’s about on the same level as Dark Souls 2, which received a T rating.

ESRB M-ratings/PEGI 18s should only be if there's high impact violence, like blood & gore, and that doesn't really suit The Legend of Zelda franchise at all.

Let's talk about the "special kills" for a moment. In the game you had these "situational kills" in the environment. For example you could slam a broken window with sharp glass or feed a guy to a shark. And there was no flipping blood. Instead these kills went "black and white" it was like Sin City basically 😠 so much wasted potential on that game "smh"
If I had made that game, there would tons of Red Blood in the water and that guy screaming in terror that I just fed him to a shark 😝
To put this "Punisher Game" in perspective, it would be like if Mortal Kombat games were rated Teen. On the level or gore and violence. Think Mortal Kombat vs. The DC Universe Yes! It was that bad. Because that game was also Teen rated 😂
The Punisher is a very violent character from Marvel Comics.
