The thing about a practice like this is none of it is under any pressure like in a real game. These practices HAVE to start simulating a real game environment where someone else is trying to stop you from doing whatever it is your job to do on the field PERIOD if a player doesn't want to be bothered with that in practice than they are not going to be ready in a real game when they do not have a choice. Someone... ESPECIALLY if your the guy currently holding the ball is going to have a lot of other guys coming at you trying to stop you and practices HAVE GOT to start being the same as real games and making the players much better at manuvering and playing under pressure GET THEM READY FOR THAT IN PRACTICE! It is not going to be the same as this practice at all in a real game...there is another team they to practice under real game pressure!
Not every practice needs to be in full game mode. This one is like a basketball shootaround. Get some reps, work on form, move around and get a little sweat on you. You don’t have to unalive yourself during a off-season workout, at least not at every single one. I’m sure Bates is doing game-speed since he is a great athlete and top safety in a league, even if he may make it look slow
