    Ngl a good teacher is very worth it, saves immense time. If someone isn’t particularly smart they kinda need one, and even people w decent intelligence are usually lead astray by trash methods, a product of their environment, if for example infinity took the guidance of a good teacher he’d be leagues better. dissecting and adopting the methods of the good people isn’t something the large majority of debaters can do. If you reach a limit bc of your teacher just move on but if your teacher is also talented then they’ll just improve in the process. Theres a reason mfs go to school. The main reason to avoid one is image / ego. There is also almost no good teachers out there, not many people have the interest to do that in a real way

      If you can get your hands on very curated educational material and ignore the harmful distractions this is a decent substitute, still much slower of a process

      I think what people have a hard time realizing is a raw perception gap holding them back, they often will eventually convince themselves they have dissected and adopted the methods, but usually have failed to clear it enough ESPECIALLY when they’re trying to imitate high caliber thinkers. A teacher who can force your brain past that insight limit by showing your errors in deciphering material is very beneficial

      @@WOAHSKEwhat material would that be

    • @WOAHSKE
      @WOAHSKE Месяц назад

      @@Wegonnabeokayy it would be a targeted compiling of debates and phil vids w a complexity curve, and the person needs to like sit down and grind hard, the average person thinks they can just listen to the things and pick them up but really they need to drill themselves and practice intensively which rarely happens. I don’t have this collection of material on me. I’ll add that the likelyhood of pickin up skill from these materials is much higher from watching debates (good ones) than watching educational vids, bc it cuts away one layer of abstraction from the directly actionable material by filtering the content directly into debate, also cuts away the distracting non actionable material. Eventually tho you’ll be priced into going outside of just watching debates bc there’s more quality material from academics, and hopefully by that time you’ll be competent enough to unpack it.

      In case you’re needing some direction, the materials would be made up of probly a number of debates shinra has unlisted on this channel, working up to more sophisticated debates w people like Eric Sampson, Majesty of reason, lance bush, Michael huemer, graham oppy and other academic debaters. some of the more clear and simple vids from Steve Patterson, maybe some lil carneades break down, moving up to like the Kane b vids, the friction dialogues, and probly lastly the majesty of reason videos 😭
