Everyone is talking about the land yachts and I'm over here drooling over the nissan pulsar. I've been looking for one for a while now.
I'll take videos on cars like this over the supercar bullshit any day of the week. The Lambo's and Ferrari's are fun and all, and i love them just as much as anyone else. But they are unrelatable and unobtainable for 99% of us. Nice to see this channel getting back to the way it used to be. Love it
And for us in Europe its the other way around. What shall we do with a land yacht which does not even fit the last corner to my property? Its has a 12 ton limit. 10 mpg equals 46 Euros/100km, i could afford maybe 200km per month. Do they take E-Fuel? The conversion to E-Fuel has already started on race tracks and it will not be long until they will convert regular „leaded“ fuel which those wonderful old big chunks of metal need.
Still love the channel, just as i love „old things on auction“ or „steam locomotives and steam trekker of a bygone era“. A Porsche 928 or a Cadillac from 1949 is living history. But certainly not practical.

@@wolfgangpreier9160 I had a ‘49 Buick Super Sedanet, which is roughly the same size, and they aren’t that heavy or big. Iirc 1650 kilogram curb weight and shorter than your average SUV.
Okay, the Buick L8 coupled to the Dynaflow meant it had bad fuel economy (about 24 liters per 100 kilometers) but it drove wonderfully. With a modern tranny these things are more economical.
The tube leading back to the auxiliary radiator was incredibly well done. With the undercoat, it looks completely stock.
That "tube" IS stock, but does not lead to the 2nd. radiator.
Most all cars of the late '40's to mid '50s-ish had similar ducting and there was no full-time vent on the top of the cowl that you see on cars from the late '50s to this day.

Regarding the shocks, the Koni 8240-1085 for front and 8240-1086 for rear should fit directly. Probably a much more reliable, cheaper and better ride than the Bilstein.

Yeah, wanted to respond with the same thing, resently replaced shocks on a porsche 928 as well, those Koni's where easy to get, but maybe this is a US supply issue, as i just got them here at a carparts store in the Netherlands.
Maybe Hoovie/Wizzard should ask one of us Europians to send them over...
Even if you can find an old pair, Koni offers a rebuilding service (not for free obviously)

Those 500 CI Caddy motors overheated terribly, so I think the mods were quite beneficial in keeping it cool.
Drove one for years no problem but I've heard that before. I would expect a faulty thermostat which is a cheap and easy replacement.

The size of radiator in my '76 Fleetwood Talisman was insane. It was a 4-core, nearly 3 inches thick and about 3 feet wide. 3x the size of my radiator in 98 Silverado lol. No doubt those old girls got warm!
Overheating is what American cars are known for. So the more cooling, the merrier.

I was really disappointed that the riviera didn't have the user cool TV screen thing.
That Riviera is one of the last sedans my Six foot Nine nephew can fit in. He drove a Eldorado (pretty much the same vehicle) until the frame was gone. He drives pickups now with the seat all the way back.
Can't understand... people are still just as big and cars are getting smaller inside. Guess we are supposed to take or drive a bus.
I am a somewhat normal 5' 10" 220 lb male and the Trax was one of the few compacts I could fit in comfortably, almost.
Except there is not enough room for my size 12s. Got to be careful. To keep my foot off the gas and brake when I want to stop. Guess my feet are not supposed to be that wide.
The foot well is a bit crowded.
Kinda noticed that with cars that don't ever come with 3 pedals.
But the wife (5' 3") has no problem. I did test driving and read some of the prospectus of whom, most sedans sedans were designed for. I mean got it down to dress size, occupation and age.
Well they don't appeal to nephew's 6' 3" sister or me either. 200 lbs looks real good on a gal on a 6' 3" woman that does not look like a starving walking stick.
She looks l more like like a 1970s wonder woman.
My wife hates driving pickups. She also likes trading cars when the gas tank needs attention. Stepping up into pickups is too hard.
But she did like driving the 2006 7 passenger T-Blazer with the front and rear a/c and entertainment. Yep those were designed more for mom.That is until they went out of style.
I rarely like restomods but that said I do appreciate the way this Caddy was done. The idea of a late model Cadillac engine and trans is much better than the usual SBC or LS1
that is usually seen. The interior is well done and tasteful. All in all looks like an enjoyable ride.

I think Hoosier said this "restomod" was done in the 80s, before restomod really became a thing.
Back then there was no LS1s (well not as we now know LS1s to be) though sbc were around back then it was more appropriate to go BBC.
Or to use a later models drive train like was done here.

Those Royal Seal tires from Uniroyal were a great idea. They were self healing tires if you ran over a nail they would seal themselves. They were an all season tire and that accounts for the aggressive tread design. I worked at a Buick/Cadillac dealership from 86 to 88. We had a local body shop owner that had an 85 Eldorado Biritz with the stainless steel roof. He painted the car a Pearl White and had those very tires with real wire wheels. Extra care was used when we serviced it.
Yea,that Riviera was something, I had an 83 Eldorado but the motors were crap.I'd like to own that Buick.
I was a tire dealer and replaced a lot of those tires over time. They had a great sales tactic though a lot of people would try and patch them when the holes were too big.
@@richardmorris7063 Yup, a 1983 Eldorado had either a Olds diesel 5.7L or a gas HT4100 Cadillac produced 4.1L gasoline V8. Neither was stellar. The Buick Riviera and the Olds Toronado had the 307 Olds V8 as an available engine from 1980-1985. You could get a 350 Olds gas V8 in 1980.

Agree. However this thing is 37 years old. So pretty well preserved for it's age. However I'm sure if you tried to drive it, it would fail in a lot of areas just from age.

I noticed that right away. Made me laugh in a bad way. My 86 t/a headliner needs to be replaced. Fortunately, they are available and better made (1 piece) and not expensive.
Ford's as well. The bows worked way better.
Do not remove any of those radiators you will regret it my GPA had a 500 ci Cadillac swap and it was a nightmare to keep cool I was so surprised this stayed cool on such hot days. They are definitely a needed item. Really cool car great build.

I had a stock 500 in a '76 Fleetwood Talisman and it was the largest radiator I had ever seen in a production car. Literally 3x the size of my 98 Silverado which wasn't a small radiator in itself so I don't doubt they would need a heck of a lot of cooling in a smaller space like that.
Only way to replace it is with a radiator the same size or an oversized aftermarket one. Never had a problem cooling a 500 block doing it this way.
Those radiators on the 500ci caddys were huge.
In the tighter 49 engine compartment probably wasn't space enough for an oversized radiator for a 500cid up front, so adding a supplementary radiator wherever they could cram it makes sense.
I'm sure I'm not alone in saying I enjoyed this video far more than another "Oh no, my Ferrari has issues" video.

5:17 I have a dedicated ring-notebook for every car I buy. Everything I do to each car is recorded and documented. I also have a picture-blog online specific to each car where everything gets chronologically recorded so even years later people can see exactly what I did to that car. It's even more important if you *customize something,* to make sure future owners can repair it too!

The 92 Buick Skylark GS coupe had one of the most beautiful side profiles. I would know. One was my first car. A beautiful rear profile as well. It was black and grey with the 16 inch alloys. All the options with a black leather interior.

Mine is a custom, red porn star interior, catless 2.5" exhaust. Do you know about what suspension it uses or what suspension can be put in them? I want to lower mine a couple inches for my wire wheels coming in. Non air suspension btw

The factory Cads which had the 500 in them were outrageously wide and the radiator went from head light to head light. It may have been impossible to do that in this car. I have a 70 Eldorado 500.

Hoovie/Wizard Bilstein have the shocks in their shop, but you have to order them from Europe.
Design 911 in the UK have Bilstein sports B6 rear shocks in their shop.

Hells yea! I had an uncle who had a 1973 Eldorado. Even as a little kid, I loved those big Cadillacs. I still remember the Saturday in October 1972 when he picked it up at the dealer (back when you ordered a car and had to wait for it to come in from the factory) and drove straight to our house with it and let me sit in it and play with all the cool gadgets! Now how awesome is THAT? An uncle with a brand new Eldorado letting an 8 year old kid play in it? I have just ONE picture of that car. From the rear sadly.
Love this car and its cleaver extra cooling, i had two extra’s back in the day in my 63 caddy as she kept over heating in traffic. Wasn’t till 12years later i had a custom made triple thick radiator waterless coolant and a triple thick custom a/c condenser too. You can order bilstine shocks direct from the manufacture in germany, can get them in 48hrs in the uk

Best idea for a restomod. Restore it to something that is still classic, but more modern than original. Great looking car too and luxury in true form.
According to my calculations w/ CPI adjustment, $20,200 in 1985 would be approx $55,600 in todays dollars. Those Riv's were nice.
Man, that Riviera! Brings back memories as I had an '85 back in '97. It was black with the same gray leather, digital dash and factory power moonroof. It was mint and had 72k on it.... paid $1600 bucks! Should have kept it but I was 18 and dumb!
You could get the later Cadilac on board 12 V air compressor and hook it to your shocks and modify it to maintain constant pressure. It is called load leveling and was designed to automatically prevent rear end squat with heavy items in the trunk.
They copied that from Packard lol!
Go low-tech with an Old Man Emu OBAC and plumb it in to the existing system. Run a switch and run a line to a gauge under the dash. Easy-peasy.

I worked for GM for 38 years. Back when I lived in Cincinnati (working out of the Chevrolet Zone Office) I was at a meeting at the GM Training Center. After the meeting the Training Center Manager asked me if I had driven an 85 1/2 Rivera T Type. I said I had not. He had one as a company car so off we went. It had the Buick 3.8 Turbo V6. The same engine that was fitted in the Regal Grand Nationals in 84 and 85. We drove down a side street and stopped. He said, do you notice those two dash lights on the instrument customer? He said hold your foot on the brake and the first light will come on then floor the gas pedal. He said when the second light comes on release the brakes. I followed his instructions and we did a huge burn out with the front tires. The car took off like a shot. In those days performance was just starting to make a come back. That was a lot of fun. They didn't make many Rivera T types. It was a very comfortable car, looked great and was quick. Especially for the day. cheers!!!
My dad had a 53 Caddy. As a kid growing up in the square and boxy 1980's, the caddy's styling was just so striking and unique. It was a sad day when he sold it. My friend had a green Skylark with the beak. No one was sad when he sold it.

As soon as Bob mentioned it was an "early 90s" Buick, but wouldn't say what it was, I was hoping it was a Skylark.
I had a 93 Skylark as my first car! She was a white, 4 door, Custom, with that 3.3L V6.... I LOVED that car. Freaking tank. My mom originally purchased it, as it was a "program car" from the dealer late in 93, and sold it to me in 99. It had 12k miles when it rolled off the lot with us, and I traded it in with 114k on March 1, 2003, for a brand new Hyundai Tiburon GT V6.
We took that Buick all over. My mom used to do bowling tournaments, and I'd go with her when I could. The first one with the Buick as the car of choice was Lansing, MI, and I think the last one was either Buffalo, NY, or Baton Rouge, LA.

At 10 minutes you used to be allowed to insert adds into videos. I think they actually changed it to 8 minutes now.

Holy moly, that T-Bird takes me back! My stepmom had a '75 Bird, nearly identical to that save for the color. Hers was light blue with a darker blue interior, but it had the vinyl impact strips, half-vinyl top, wire hubcaps and all. I took my then-future wife on many a date in that big ol' Bird.
We had a 1973 Gran Torino Elite that was basically the same car. Light yellow with white interior and mustard yellow carpet and dash.
The Caddy is and Should be a Keeper No getting rid of that. That Green Thunderbird Beautiful.

I recall driving a new 1984 Riviera at 100mph for about 60 miles in Kansas. Porpoised a little, but made the trip well.

The old Caddy is beyond gorgeous ( and seems exceptionally well screwed together for a restomod, which is derived from a French word meaning " garbage in a pretty package" ).
I think they RUINED it. BLECH! That car was a thing of beauty once until they started making a hodgepodge and smorgasbord out of it!
It still blows my mind how beautiful the Grand Am was, and how bizarre the Skylark and Underachieva were.

Seeing these old cars makes me wonder what a 68 Chrysler 300 is worth now. I had one back in the mid 70`s and loved it. Was a 2 door , 440, white with black interior and a few extras on the inside. Really miss that car and don't see any on any on RUclips.

for the Porsche; if it has rear bilsteins they are probably rebuildable
I was thinking a call to Bilstein would solve the problem pretty quickly, but maybe the company has changed. If Bilstein won't do it, they should reach out to MCS or one of the other boutique race shock companies in the US and see if they can make some one-offs for a Hoovies Garage publicity tour.
My thoughts exactly. Getting shocks rebuilt isn't usually done because it's so cost prohibitive, but that all changes when they're unobtainium spec
@@ironymatt and some of them are designed from inception to be rebuilt. If there’s a rubber stopper or shraeder valve on the bottom of the strut/shock, it’s likely serviceable.

That's just crazy that green thunderbird showed up. I grew up riding in that color thunderbird from when I was a baby. Not sure on the year we had but I am happy to see one.
Very clean job they did on those radiators.
The 3.3V6 is an amazing engine. It's actually just as good as the 3800 v6. They're both 90 degree engines and both easy as hell to work on and very reliable.

That I can agree with, my 3.3 ran for a month with a cracked block or head gasket. Head gaskets looked fine, crossing my fingers there's no combustion in the cooling system when I stick it back together 💯🤷
@@ericacherney3132 sucks it wasn't made for that long. Guess when the 3.1V6 came out, it was too close in power to the 3.3 so there wasn't much need for it. But the 3.1 wasn't as easy to work on.

I swear 1980's GM headliners were literally falling apart when new apparently. 2000 miles on the car and obviously climate control stored. So many memories growing up of thumb tack stuck headliners.
cigarette smoke was the biggest problem and it effected the adhesive.
I remember my grandmother would always get onto me and my cousins for messing with the headliner in her Riviera for about a year before she traded it for a new one.
Yeah, it's the first thing I look at anytime I see an old GM from this era ! But I had some good times in the backseat of them though 😊
All manufacturers headliners were the same, a foam backed cloth with the foam glued directly to a cardboard headliner. The problem is that the foam disintegrates at about 8 or nine years and the cloth has nothing to adhere to so it falls down, the heat does the most damage. I've replaced several of them, its' easy once you get the thing out of the car.
I love that Riviera but the headliner needs help.

That Skylark got me. My 1st car was nearly identical, only it was a 2 door. Red and grey with black interior and 3.3 V6.
For 928 parts there are a few specialists worth checking with, 928srus (Roger is the owner), 928intl (Mark is the owner), precision Motorwerks in Anaheim (Greg is the owner), and 928 motorsports (used to be owned by Carl). 928 specialists I'm not sure is open currently, owner Dave died recently. Either way, if parts are available they'll have them or know who does.
Thats whats happening, alot of specialists are going the way of the Dodo, because the original owner who built the business up over decades passes way, and then the kids either run the business into the ground or they would rather sit and play video games than work with machine tools.. A good machinist should have no problem making good money these days
If GM hadn't pulled out of Australia, we could have kept sending you Chevy Caprices for that modern land yaght experience. Ford Australia could also have kept making their LWB Fairlane and LTD

Hi Hoovie, have the Wizard create a heat shield for the brake master cylinder on that sweet ole caddy. Heat is a huge factor for the fluid and seals. That 928 is cool bro. Love the show. Thanks for the laughs yo.
