I think the big indicator of Bonnie still being Bonnie is the amount she is eating. I doubt Devon has the same appetite. I think she's more genuinely come to terms with Kuma's decisions, and I really want to know why.
Also, Devon is hard lesbian-coded. She wouldn't be talking about Sanji. She'd be gushing over Nami or Robin or Lilith or... you know, any of the ladies around.
Loved the way Kizaru talked back to the Gorosei. He really fears nothing. I feel like his true strength will shock a lot of people. Glad to see Oda finally giving some attention to my favorite character!
To be honest, in the previous chapter, he sounds helpless, saying he’s “merely a cog in the system”. His attitude in this chapter, talking back to Saturn, seems like a desperate attempt to maintain some of his individuality. In other words, “I’m ultimately bound to obey you like a servant, but I can’t compromise on this.” I still like Kizaru though, and this makes his situation more relatable.
Kizaru was ready to pull up to Wano around the beginning of the arc. It was Akainu that told him not to go. I really want to see him go all out. I hope we get it in this arc. With Blackbeard going there though… I don’t like his chances. Luffy and BB has some beef but neither of them are going to choose to side with an admiral against the other. It would be also pretty symbolic for the darkness fruit to defeat the light fruit.

Something that flew under the radar, but I really like the short interaction between Kaku and Lucci, because this is probably the only time in the entire series that Lucci has ever been remotely empathetic to someone.
I mean, Kaku is the only person who is strong enough to fight side by side with Lucci (maybe Jabra too but that's questionable). But it could also be because they were together almost all the time.
A tiny moment I really enjoyed was when Luffy and Usopp learned they were headed towards Elbaf they did their little shoulder to shoulder dance thing. I feel like it's been forever since we've seen them do that, maybe even pre-timeskip? Either way it put a smile on my face. Also we finally learn what the heck is up with Lucci's pigeons/dove, maybe? Maybe I'm overthinking it but it looks like he is whispering into it during the couple of panels we see him giving info on our group. I wonder if this whole time it's been a transponder snail or something that ate a dove/pigeon fruit or something crazy like that.

Running from Kizaru is not an option, because he is a hard counter to the whole plan. Once the ship leaves Egghead Island, Kizaru could just get in front of them with lightspeed, making a fight inevitable.
My guess is that Sanji will be the one who takes him. Marco was able to take him because Marco could fly, regen, move fast, and had durability. And they're both kickers. Sanji 1v1'ing would be their best escape chance.

With zoro it is a different story because his dream is to become the strongest swordsman so it hopefully will come true with a win against mihawk. But on other fights I think Oda doesnt prefer to pick same vs same (please proof me wrong, I'm eager to learn). For me this is not a question of what fits best but of what Oda finds best for his series and he certainly doesnt like predicable outcomes (this is why I still love one piece). I think Zoro was hit the hardest after luffy on sabaody, because he really wanted to protect the crew and gave himself the duty to win the hardest battles, if luffy isnt around. "What's a planet to a sun" is a nice symbolical touch on Luffy overriding S-Snakes programming, but I think the more important theme here is that there is a power to human emotion that the celestial dragons don't understand, and thus they underestimate it and it will cost them dearly. It's a bit on an antiquated trope we've seen a thousand times in stories, because we can all sense there is a beautiful truth to it. The connection Luffy made with Hancock has become part of her actual DNA or lineage factor, which means that the friends we make actually become a literal part of us in some kind of metaphysical sense. I absolutely love this little twist because it fits the narrative of the story and Luffy as a character so perfectly.
I agree. My thought is somewhat along the lines of emotion creates will because stronger emotions are more likely to lead us to react. It seems as Vegapunk supposes that this will is part of their DNA and can override their programming. It makes even more sense that her power is explained as "exploiting strong emotions". I wonder if her devil fruit actually turns another's will to stone. There's a chance that by using the emotional weaknesses of the seraphim, they can change who they serve.
yeah, the theme of the power of human emotion and connection is definitely an important one in One Piece. Luffy's ability to override S-Snake's programming and the connection he made with Hancock showcases the strength of those bonds. It's a beautiful twist that adds depth to the story and Luffy as a character.

I think it's more likely that Bonney just saw through Kuma's memories and understood his and Vegapunk's relationship, and the decision he made to become the Pacifista. She doesn't hate Vegapunk anymore because she understands the story now.
I feel sorry for Sentomaru, If the gang will stick to the escape plan and not fight back, then after this incident Sentomaru may be dead or captured, maybe he's gonne be like Bon Clay during Impel down, as the SH and the others leave the island he and the remaining forces will buy time to let others escape.
I think Bonney is simply satisfied with the answer she got from Vegapunk and/or her father’s bubble. From what we’ve seen, Bonney isn’t a complicated person.
I’m hoping the Elbaf arc will give Usopp a major plot focus, Sanji had Whole Cake, Zoro had Wano and Elbaf should allow Usopp to explore his observation haki. I can only hope there is a major ship battle that preps him for the inevitable final arc sniping match against Van Auger.
Luffy can be oblivious to a lot of things but he is one of the most emotional intelligent characters in the Series, him noticing Bonney's change isn't that farfetched

I love the small part when Nami was hitting York for being a little $h!t and Zoro of was stopping her. I also love the fact that Luffy was willing to give Lucci's status report to the enemy if Robin didn't scream and stopped him. I miss the crew interactions and hope we get more double spreads of it.
It wasn't Robin who stopped him - the next panel shows Nami doing her "OMG Why am I following this idiot?" pose - her usual pose after telling Luffy off. The Gorosei are just "WOMAN? NICO ROBIN? MUST BE NICO ROBIN!" because they got that one-track mind. Robin was happily chilling and explaining to Luffy afterwards. Robin very rarely yells at Luffy. Nami, though... XD
yeah, those moments of crew interaction are always great to see. The dynamic between Nami, Zoro, and York was entertaining, and Luffy's willingness to prioritize Robin's safety showed his loyalty to the crew. Hopefully, we'll get more double spreads of these interactions in the future.
Rainbow Kizaru hits different. I hadn't considered that but it would be fun because of his current colour palette being all yellow. Getting many colours of Kizaru is a fun idea

I mean, it feels kinda weird that people like Stussy and Stella and especially Robin would say anything true in the presence of Lucci because they believe him to be a genuine ally. Maybe they know he's going to be a naughty kitty and rely all info he can to the Gorosei, and they are one step ahead of him, who knows.
I thought the same! Typically, if Oda tells us the plan beforehand, we can expect it to go horribly wrong. Here I think Oda's pulling the other kind of plot, where the reader is kept in the dark. It would make sense, since Egghead has a major whodunit mystery theme.

Something I noticed about their escape plan, is that the navy brought the 1 guy who can immediately ruin it. It doesnt matter how fast you fly away from egghead, Kizaru will catch up to you. He needs to be taken care of before they can escape.
The change of Bonny's behaviour to me it's just that, once she saw what really happened in the past, and that Vegapunk didn't really hurt her father, she understood the situation and didn't want to kill him anymore.
Remember Blackbeard have a girl (I don't know the name ) in his crew with the devil fruit power to change herself with others identity , maybe the change in bonney's behaviour explains it
I think that kizaru is the best of all the admirals to fight Luffy right now. Kaido was beaten by teamwork and if things go wrong with kizaru he could still use gadget from vegapunk

Honestly Zoro is the only one that dealt any actual damage to Kaido, and even that wasn’t enough to make him take a knee. Luffy dealt the vast majority of that damage, and Luffy started each stage of the 1v1 in far worse shape than Kaido. And at the end they both unleashed their strongest attacks and Luffy’s was stronger. The narrative is clear that Luffy had to surpass Kaido. He did. If they fought again fresh it wouldn’t be remotely the same fight because of how much Luffy grew during it.
Is anyone else thinking that Luffy is sensing someone who isn't Kizaru? Surely he would say something like "A familiar strong presence." Ala how he responded to Shanks. Surely he would be able to warn the Strawhats because, they all remember Kizaru. Since he stated before that he's ready to take on admirals, I don't think Kizaru is who Luffy is stressing at this moment. Maybe this coming blackbeard ship has another Titan for us to meet or, perhaps it's Saturn himself. The gorosei were putting in work on Sabo after all

I think people don't actually see the nuance of his and Corazon's story. While they both came from the same starting line, one was old enough to be used to a certain way of life while the other was still young enough to be flexible about it, but if their roles afterwards had been swapped - Doffy picked up by Sengoku and Cora picked up by Trebol - their lives and characters would have been different in various ways. Would Doffy have been as 'good' as Cora? Probably not, but he'd have been a lot better than he was because he'd have been raised in a caring environment - he'd have still had a lot of trauma to work through because he understood the world around him and what was happening a lot more than his baby brother did at the time that everything happened and would have harboured a lot of resentment still but with time and care he could have come through to adulthood with a better outlook on life and a desire to change the world in the right way. Would Cora have been as bad as Doffy was? Probably not - he was a calmer personality, but he would have still have been raised to be evil and do evil things. Trebol would have manipulated him until he got what he wanted - a tame Celestial Dragon to use and call his own. Even in Dressrosa you could see points where Trebol issued orders to Doffy and while Doffy gave him the side-eye, he still did them. He was conditioned to look at Trebol as someone to follow. Cora wouldn't have done better if raised like that. At the end of the day, neither of them were really given a choice in how they turned out - they were raised by very different people to be very different people. Reminder that Trebol pretty much baited and pushed Doffy into killing his father, even providing the means to do so. If he'd never met that grooming fucktard, who knows how he would have turned out. Sure, darker than his brother, but probably not a raging psychopath. Even at the end of everything he did have people he cared for, after all, he just didn't let his feelings get in the way - as he'd been raised.

I have a feeling that the strong person that Luffy fealed isn't Kizaru. Luffy met a lot of strong characters and he didn't reacted like that to none of them.
Kizaru is apart of the reason his crew lost at Sabody. Luffy doesn't take anything with that group lightly anymore. Not only that but Shanks reacted like that to Dammned Punk even though he one shotted it. It's just emblematic of Luffy taking it seriously.
I maybe wrong but I think Luffy wasn’t scared when he first saw kaido because he thought that kaido had just wiped out his whole crew. Luffy being weary of kizaru makes sense considering he’s a captain that has weak members on his crew. I doubt anyone could argue that Nami or Chopper has the ability to fight an admiral after all.
I do have to add that Chopper held his own against Queen, who has a billion berry bounty and Nami managed to hold out against some of the Shinuchi. While it's doubtful either of them could win a fight against an admiral, they are much more capable now than ever before and can be trusted to Not Die
But Luffy has also met multiple admirals before including Kizaru twice. He was happy to scrap with Fujitora, he sat smiling as GB scrapped with the scabbards, and he’s literally thrown himself directly in front of 3 admirals at once before. I think he’s more shocked than anything. It’s a huge subversion to his expectations considering he thought the escape was in the bag already and that no one could get in because of the laser defenses.

While I doubt this would be the case I would love it if Luffy actually wanted to run away due to having ptsd from Sabaody but someone who is usually scared and would try to get Luffy to run away such as Ussop or Nami told him to fight Kizaru because they remembered what he said on Dressrosa. It would be a big twist and show how much trust the crew place on their captain after the events that took place in Wano. Like I said not sure it would be fitting for the character of Luffy but I feel it would be even more impactful *because* it doesn't fit Luffy's usual reactions.
I think Elbaf is a Red Herring-- With Lucci leaking info to the Marines, the gap is going to close and measures taken to adjust for the crew's escape plan. Since Vega Force 1 can only go as far as Egghead's airspace, I think Vegapunk will have some means to take VF1 upward instead of outward, and we might land ourselves in a Lunarian arc, reuniting with Enel and getting some info on the ancient weapons etc.

I like how nobody is comparing the showing of kizaru at the end of the chapter to when greenbull shows up on wano. It's clear the new admirals aren't as powerful by a wide margin. Luffy has bad memories with kizaru and akainu and still doesn't know their full strength. So of course he reacts that way. The same could probably be said about aokiji if he acted menacing at any point on punk hazard. They have shown they can fight with emperor's the new guys not so much
A fun idea is that Luffys final reaction is actually someone else arriving on the island because yes, it is weird seeing him scared after both Fujitora and Ryokugyu. Perhaps someone more blackbearded was on that sneaking ship and Luffy sensed another emperor of the sea.
How is that fun? Luffy has also met Blackbeard before and just defeated another Yonko...so why wouldn't it be Kizaru? What difference would it make, is he not a top tier like Blackbeard and the rest?
I feel like during the fight with Kizaru (and within Elbaf) we'll get some flashbacks as to what we missed in Egghead, I believe Oda has found an interesting way to vastly progress the plot whils't revealing important details later
Regarding Bonnie's mood, is it possible that she "absorbed" Kuma's memory/consciousness bubble the same way Zoro absorbed Luffy's pain? I am assuming if they have to leave Egghead, can they really leave "Kuma" behind?

Taking on an admiral is actually the most logical way to safely get off the island. Just like Zoro said about Fujitora in Dressrosa, as long as an admiral is here, there is no way for the Straw-hats to escape safely. I also hope Franky uses Atlas' gloves to help stop Kizaru since they can touch light. I can see him at least punching Kizaru or block a laser beam from him as they escape. I also think instead of Luffy, Zoro fights him to have a chance at round 2 for what happened pre-timeskip. Though its obvious Kizaru will eventually be Sanji's end fight considering he prefers kick fighting.
I hope the crew doesn’t split up. I don’t just want Usopp only to see Elbaf I want the whole crew. I want to see all their reactions to elbaf and them to learn that big mom lived there and killed a giant when she was 5. And also I’m just wish for more straw hat interactions, we haven’t had enough post time skip cause everything is more serious and high stakes.
Idea: While trying to escape the Thousand Sunny will run into a fuel issue leaving it temporarily unable to remain airborne after VegaForce 1 fails. Sanji despite his best efforts cannot Soru the entire ship on his back for long, but the fed Cipher Pol agents betray the world government and Soru into the sky and help hold the ship until Franky & Vegapunk introduce Super Cola (or mother flame) as the new power source and fly much furter than before all the way to Elbaf. This way Luffy does not immediately run into Shanks.
Albeit a part of me feels like just saying that they're going to Elbaf now is easier said than done (cause right now I feel like things are going to easy right now). Even if we do here's to hoping that the Red Hairs still aren't on Elbaf or the SHs will enter a predicament like the Kid Pirates going into (I guess the) Red Hair territory of Elbaf. Plus I guess it turns out due to showing that since the Log Pose has calibrated that Egghead wasn't the exact island they were supposed to be going to

I really like that Luffy can sense just how powerful Kizaru is unlike the last time he saw any of the 3 admirals all the way back in Marineford. His ignorance allowed him to do so much back then whilst everyone else around him felt the danger but could not fully perceive the threat. Luffy with Haki now allows him so much more perception.
it is not that he was ignorant,he and his entire crew were defeated with no chance to fight back against 2 of the admirals at marineford, it was more of a moment he didn't have options, it was do or (ace) die(s) moment. Luffy does admit kizaru is strong and no one ever said the admirals were weak, they definitely are not to be taken lightly, but i think luffy is strong enought to beat him, else they will have to explain why kizaru is so much stronger than green bull and fujitora. I think luffy will have his redemption from sabnaody by defeating kizaru or at least showing how much stronger he got during all that time he spent training, luffy's statement about a strong foe aproaching is maybe because he is now worried about his crew, nami and ussop specialy are fragile, robin, franky brook and chopper would put some fight and i think the only ones who have a chance besides luffy would be sanji zoro and jinbe, if the strawhats have to fight kizaru now they have something to worry about, while kizaru can just go all out and with his light speed attacks someone could really get hurt in the crossfire.
In regards to Bonney - she just had a cathartic night of learning her father's deepest secrets and crying it all out, then got fed by a guy who literally lives to dote on lovely ladies. Of course girl is happy right now - she's purged her hatred of Vegapunk, eaten a hefty meal, met a cute guy who is really doting and gives out free food AND has made a food-buddy in Luffy. Who wouldn't be much happier after that?
This was an excellent chapter. It really sets up nicely the coming fight. I was hoping we would get more of the fight the night before than we did but I'm overall fine with it because it really shows the power of the Straw Hats. I love that the CP5 and & agents are kind of on the Straw Hats side because they save their lives. Rob Lucci you assh*le! Just die! I hope it’s Kaku who kills him. I do think the woman saying “Don’t say anything” was Nami. It was just Ju Peter guessing/ wondering if it was Robin. Because if you think about it, the Gorosei have never heard Robin’s voice. They wouldn’t know what she sounds like. Has Morgans not heard Luffy say “Im going to be king of the pirates” before? And I know Vivi, Morgans, and Wapol are on their way to Egghead, but how close are they? Because it really feels like they are setting up Vivi to rejoin the Straw Hats, or at least journey with them to Elbaf. And it was really great to see Kuro again. I hope this mean we will get cover requests for the other East Blue villains because of the Live Action Series.
Liam I think I have an idea about the identity of the D clan, in chapter 1066 shaka told robin that the empty century is the history of a war that was between 20 kingdoms and a specific kingdom which had an advanced civilization and after the 20 kingdoms victory they have formed an organization called the world government and then deleted everything that has something to do with that advanced kingdom from history, and shaka said that he thinks the ohara incident happened because they found out about that kingdom’s existence, and in chapter 1085 imu said that D was the name of our enemies, what if the people who used to live in that advanced kingdom are the D clan? I think they were so powerful and dangerous and they were a serious menace since 20 kingdoms had to cooperate with each other just to face that specific kingdom I mean wow!

I think it makes sense for Kizaru to go down right here (or soon). Seeing as he’s the only Admiral not replaced post-time skip- and with Garp’s disappearance- it’s time to usher in that new era and replace Kizaru with someone new.
I have a personal theory that Boa Hancock's ancestor was part of Joyboy's crew and loved him which would explain why the lineage factor also affected S-Snake because I doubt she was cloned around the same time as Luffy meeting Boa on Amazon Lily.
Considering what we've gotten so far about Elbaf culture I'm super stoked about finally getting there with the crew! As a Swede everything Elbafian hits home so hard as they're all references to my own culture. The moment Oda actually included a semla of all things my jaw literally dropped, we still to this day have a national semla day here in Sweden and the winter solstace is still a comon topic each december as we enter a stage of no sunlight for days or weeks! lol I'm gonna feel like the smartest guy in the room as soon as Elbaf becomes the community topic

People write Kizaru off too often. I genuinely feel like Oda is cooking something big for him. He's so elusive noone really knows how strong he could actually be.
I like to think that the fear on Luffy's face is more the trauma from Sabaody than anything else. The last time the strawhats saw Kizaru the entire crew had to be completely separated just to survive.
I really enjoyed Franky proudly telling Vegapunk about the sunny's abilities, Franky looked up to Vegapunk and not he created something that his idol respects i felt chills reading that and almost teared up :)
Vegapunk being surprised at Cola being a power source is a neat little bit of information as well. Another thought is that Egghead is the reverse Sabaody arc.
I do hope Oda lets Kizaru be genuinely menacing despite the Straw Hats post-Wano powerups. I think we need to see that the World Government has players can still be a genuine Endgame threat, God's Knights and Gorosei etc aside
Yeah, I think that the crew will split up. With the first team taking both york and stella. And the second team staying to fight the marines. That way, when they get there Shanks is not there anymore or something has happen.

I would love if Vivi finally came back to the crew and it feels more and more feasible as the chapters go on. Especially after the whole thing with Ainu, the Five Elder Stars and Cobra. Like it’s obviously dangerous for her to back to Alabasta and Big News Morgan can only keep her safe for so long if that is what he’s doing. Or if he’s just keeping her around for that BIG NEWS story with her father then once he has it what’s to stop him from just kicking her to the curb. Either way her odd of and nicety for returning to the crew keeps becoming more likely. Hopefully we don’t get total blue balls like we did with both Carrot and Yamato.
I feel as though after the straw hats flee egghead, the marines will be scouring egghead and find the real Bonney emerging from Kuma’s memories, confirming it’s not the real Bonney on Sunny with the crew.
I think you brought up a good point that needs to be discussed more. The seraphim were created using warlord DNA. We have seen that conquerer’s haki often is passed down between generations in families. I think it’s the next piece of the puzzle of inherited will. Which leads me to believe that the gorosei is very aware of which countries breed the most defiant bunch. They use their weapons to prevent history from repeating itself. They destroyed a Defiant island, made it into a prison as a means to curb rebellion. If Impel Down is indeed a microcosm, then the Gorosei won’t be brought down by one, but two, main factions.
My theory as to why Luffy looked scared is that when puffy fights strong opponents he's always away from his crew or at least not in striking distance. (That's excepted Zoro and Sanji). And he knows Robin and some of his crew are already in bad shape. I think like you said he's going to send a part of his crew off to Elbalf while he stays behind.
Off of your idea of S Snake eventually giving into Luffy and ignoring orders, S Bear would do it too for his daughter Bonney, and maybe S Croc would also do it for Luffy? If Crocomom is still a theory.

Loved the way Kizaru talked back to the Gorosei. He really fears nothing. I feel like his true strength will shock a lot of people. Glad to see Oda finally giving some attention to my favorite character!
To be honest, in the previous chapter, he sounds helpless, saying he’s “merely a cog in the system”. His attitude in this chapter, talking back to Saturn, seems like a desperate attempt to maintain some of his individuality. In other words, “I’m ultimately bound to obey you like a servant, but I can’t compromise on this.” I still like Kizaru though, and this makes his situation more relatable.

Kizaru was ready to pull up to Wano around the beginning of the arc. It was Akainu that told him not to go. I really want to see him go all out. I hope we get it in this arc. With Blackbeard going there though… I don’t like his chances. Luffy and BB has some beef but neither of them are going to choose to side with an admiral against the other. It would be also pretty symbolic for the darkness fruit to defeat the light fruit.

A tiny moment I really enjoyed was when Luffy and Usopp learned they were headed towards Elbaf they did their little shoulder to shoulder dance thing. Running from Kizaru is not an option, because he is a hard counter to the whole plan. Once the ship leaves Egghead Island, Kizaru could just get in front of them with lightspeed, making a fight inevitable.

"What's a planet to a sun" is a nice symbolical touch on Luffy overriding S-Snakes programming, but I think the more important theme here is that there is a power to human emotion that the celestial dragons don't understand, and thus they underestimate it and it will cost them dearly. It's a bit on an antiquated trope we've seen a thousand times in stories, because we can all sense there is a beautiful truth to it. The connection Luffy made with Hancock has become part of her actual DNA or lineage factor, which means that the friends we make actually become a literal part of us in some kind of metaphysical sense. I absolutely love this little twist because it fits the narrative of the story and Luffy as a character so perfectly.
I agree. My thought is somewhat along the lines of emotion creates will because stronger emotions are more likely to lead us to react. It seems as Vegapunk supposes that this will is part of their DNA and can override their programming. It makes even more sense that her power is explained as "exploiting strong emotions". I wonder if her devil fruit actually turns another's will to stone. There's a chance that by using the emotional weaknesses of the seraphim, they can change who they serve.
yeah, the theme of the power of human emotion and connection is definitely an important one in One Piece. Luffy's ability to override S-Snake's programming and the connection he made with Hancock showcases the strength of those bonds. It's a beautiful twist that adds depth to the story and Luffy as a character.

I love the small part when Nami was hitting York for being a little $h!t and Zoro of was stopping her. I also love the fact that Luffy was willing to give Lucci's status report to the enemy if Robin didn't scream and stopped him. I miss the crew interactions and hope we get more double spreads of it.
It wasn't Robin who stopped him - the next panel shows Nami doing her "OMG Why am I following this idiot?" pose - her usual pose after telling Luffy off. The Gorosei are just "WOMAN? NICO ROBIN? MUST BE NICO ROBIN!" because they got that one-track mind. Robin was happily chilling and explaining to Luffy afterwards. Robin very rarely yells at Luffy. Nami, though... XD
Nami was punching York for making the Ohara comment, and Robin was smiling about her crew defending her.
yeah, those moments of crew interaction are always great to see. The dynamic between Nami, Zoro, and York was entertaining, and Luffy's willingness to prioritize Robin's safety showed his loyalty to the crew. Hopefully, we'll get more double spreads of these interactions in the future.

Something I noticed about their escape plan, is that the navy brought the 1 guy who can immediately ruin it. It doesnt matter how fast you fly away from egghead, Kizaru will catch up to you. He needs to be taken care of before they can escape.
The change of Bonny's behaviour to me it's just that, once she saw what really happened in the past, and that Vegapunk didn't really hurt her father, she understood the situation and didn't want to kill him anymore.

Honestly Zoro is the only one that dealt any actual damage to Kaido, and even that wasn’t enough to make him take a knee. Luffy dealt the vast majority of that damage, and Luffy started each stage of the 1v1 in far worse shape than Kaido. And at the end they both unleashed their strongest attacks and Luffy’s was stronger. The narrative is clear that Luffy had to surpass Kaido. He did. If they fought again fresh it wouldn’t be remotely the same fight because of how much Luffy grew during it.

While they both came from the same starting line, one was old enough to be used to a certain way of life while the other was still young enough to be flexible about it, but if their roles afterwards had been swapped - Doffy picked up by Sengoku and Cora picked up by Trebol - their lives and characters would have been different in various ways.
Would Doffy have been as 'good' as Cora? Probably not, but he'd have been a lot better than he was because he'd have been raised in a caring environment - he'd have still had a lot of trauma to work through because he understood the world around him and what was happening a lot more than his baby brother did at the time that everything happened and would have harboured a lot of resentment still but with time and care he could have come through to adulthood with a better outlook on life and a desire to change the world in the right way.
Would Cora have been as bad as Doffy was? Probably not - he was a calmer personality, but he would have still have been raised to be evil and do evil things. Trebol would have manipulated him until he got what he wanted - a tame Celestial Dragon to use and call his own. Even in Dressrosa you could see points where Trebol issued orders to Doffy and while Doffy gave him the side-eye, he still did them. He was conditioned to look at Trebol as someone to follow. Cora wouldn't have done better if raised like that.
At the end of the day, neither of them were really given a choice in how they turned out - they were raised by very different people to be very different people. Reminder that Trebol pretty much baited and pushed Doffy into killing his father, even providing the means to do so. If he'd never met that grooming fucktard, who knows how he would have turned out. Sure, darker than his brother, but probably not a raging psychopath. Even at the end of everything he did have people he cared for, after all, he just didn't let his feelings get in the way - as he'd been raised.

Kizaru is apart of the reason his crew lost at Sabody. Luffy doesn't take anything with that group lightly anymore. Not only that but Shanks reacted like that to Dammned Punk even though he one shotted it. It's just emblematic of Luffy taking it seriously.

I maybe wrong but I think Luffy wasn’t scared when he first saw kaido because he thought that kaido had just wiped out his whole crew. Luffy being weary of kizaru makes sense considering he’s a captain that has weak members on his crew. I doubt anyone could argue that Nami or Chopper has the ability to fight an admiral after all.
I do have to add that Chopper held his own against Queen, who has a billion berry bounty and Nami managed to hold out against some of the Shinuchi. While it's doubtful either of them could win a fight against an admiral, they are much more capable now than ever before and can be trusted to Not Die

But Luffy has also met multiple admirals before including Kizaru twice. He was happy to scrap with Fujitora, he sat smiling as GB scrapped with the scabbards, and he’s literally thrown himself directly in front of 3 admirals at once before.
I think he’s more shocked than anything. It’s a huge subversion to his expectations considering he thought the escape was in the bag already and that no one could get in because of the laser defenses.

Luffy was more than happy to fight Fujitora and sat there smiling watching Momo and the scabbards fight Green Bull - both times having observation Haki and being able to sense their strength. Yes Kizaru is probably stronger than them but not to the extent that his reactions would be that different. And it’s not in Luffy’s character to be scared of fighting a strong opponent; he was more than happy to fight Kaido 1v1.
I think it’s shock because the plan has likely been foiled and we actually have to fight. He might have to protect weaker crew mates because Kizaru is not above picking off a straggler. And supposedly no one could get in because of the laser defenses, but Kizaru is made of light, so he can.
While I doubt this would be the case I would love it if Luffy actually wanted to run away due to having ptsd from Sabaody but someone who is usually scared and would try to get Luffy to run away such as Ussop or Nami told him to fight Kizaru because they remembered what he said on Dressrosa. It would be a big twist and show how much trust the crew place on their captain after the events that took place in Wano. Like I said not sure it would be fitting for the character of Luffy but I feel it would be even more impactful *because* it doesn't fit Luffy's usual reactions.
Don't forget the fact that even the yonko fears the king's punch (one from dressrosa arena).

With Lucci leaking info to the Marines, the gap is going to close and measures taken to adjust for the crew's escape plan. Since Vega Force 1 can only go as far as Egghead's airspace, I think Vegapunk will have some means to take VF1 upward instead of outward, and we might land ourselves in a Lunarian arc, reuniting with Enel and getting some info on the ancient weapons etc.

I like how nobody is comparing the showing of kizaru at the end of the chapter to when greenbull shows up on wano. It's clear the new admirals aren't as powerful by a wide margin. Luffy has bad memories with kizaru and akainu and still doesn't know their full strength. So of course he reacts that way. The same could probably be said about aokiji if he acted menacing at any point on punk hazard. They have shown they can fight with emperor's the new guys not so much

A fun idea is that Luffys final reaction is actually someone else arriving on the island because yes, it is weird seeing him scared after both Fujitora and Ryokugyu. Perhaps someone more blackbearded was on that sneaking ship and Luffy sensed another emperor of the sea.
How is that fun? Luffy has also met Blackbeard before and just defeated another Yonko...so why wouldn't it be Kizaru? What difference would it make, is he not a top tier like Blackbeard and the rest?
I feel like during the fight with Kizaru (and within Elbaf) we'll get some flashbacks as to what we missed in Egghead, I believe Oda has found an interesting way to vastly progress the plot whils't revealing important details later

Taking on an admiral is actually the most logical way to safely get off the island. Just like Zoro said about Fujitora in Dressrosa, as long as an admiral is here, there is no way for the Straw-hats to escape safely. I also hope Franky uses Atlas' gloves to help stop Kizaru since they can touch light. I can see him at least punching Kizaru or block a laser beam from him as they escape.
I also think instead of Luffy, Zoro fights him to have a chance at round 2 for what happened pre-timeskip. Though its obvious Kizaru will eventually be Sanji's end fight considering he prefers kick fighting.

Idea: While trying to escape the Thousand Sunny will run into a fuel issue leaving it temporarily unable to remain airborne after VegaForce 1 fails. Sanji despite his best efforts cannot Soru the entire ship on his back for long, but the fed Cipher Pol agents betray the world government and Soru into the sky and help hold the ship until Franky & Vegapunk introduce Super Cola (or mother flame) as the new power source and fly much furter than before all the way to Elbaf. This way Luffy does not immediately run into Shanks.
Albeit a part of me feels like just saying that they're going to Elbaf now is easier said than done (cause right now I feel like things are going to easy right now). Even if we do here's to hoping that the Red Hairs still aren't on Elbaf or the SHs will enter a predicament like the Kid Pirates going into (I guess the) Red Hair territory of Elbaf. Plus I guess it turns out due to showing that since the Log Pose has calibrated that Egghead wasn't the exact island they were supposed to be going to
I don't expect a full on Kizaru defeat from the story, but having Luffy out do him in a quick battle while escaping and showcasing his growth is just as hype

I really like that Luffy can sense just how powerful Kizaru is unlike the last time he saw any of the 3 admirals all the way back in Marineford. His ignorance allowed him to do so much back then whilst everyone else around him felt the danger but could not fully perceive the threat. Luffy with Haki now allows him so much more perception.
it is not that he was ignorant,he and his entire crew were defeated with no chance to fight back against 2 of the admirals at marineford, it was more of a moment he didn't have options, it was do or (ace) die(s) moment.
Luffy does admit kizaru is strong and no one ever said the admirals were weak, they definitely are not to be taken lightly, but i think luffy is strong enought to beat him, else they will have to explain why kizaru is so much stronger than green bull and fujitora.
I think luffy will have his redemption from sabnaody by defeating kizaru or at least showing how much stronger he got during all that time he spent training, luffy's statement about a strong foe aproaching is maybe because he is now worried about his crew, nami and ussop specialy are fragile, robin, franky brook and chopper would put some fight and i think the only ones who have a chance besides luffy would be sanji zoro and jinbe, if the strawhats have to fight kizaru now they have something to worry about, while kizaru can just go all out and with his light speed attacks someone could really get hurt in the crossfire.
In regards to Bonney - she just had a cathartic night of learning her father's deepest secrets and crying it all out, then got fed by a guy who literally lives to dote on lovely ladies. Of course girl is happy right now - she's purged her hatred of Vegapunk, eaten a hefty meal, met a cute guy who is really doting and gives out free food AND has made a food-buddy in Luffy. Who wouldn't be much happier after that?
This was an excellent chapter. It really sets up nicely the coming fight. I was hoping we would get more of the fight the night before than we did but I'm overall fine with it because it really shows the power of the Straw Hats. I love that the CP5 and & agents are kind of on the Straw Hats side because they save their lives. Rob Lucci you assh*le! Just die! I hope it’s Kaku who kills him. I do think the woman saying “Don’t say anything” was Nami. It was just Ju Peter guessing/ wondering if it was Robin. Because if you think about it, the Gorosei have never heard Robin’s voice. They wouldn’t know what she sounds like. Has Morgans not heard Luffy say “Im going to be king of the pirates” before? And I know Vivi, Morgans, and Wapol are on their way to Egghead, but how close are they? Because it really feels like they are setting up Vivi to rejoin the Straw Hats, or at least journey with them to Elbaf. And it was really great to see Kuro again. I hope this mean we will get cover requests for the other East Blue villains because of the Live Action Series.
Liam I think I have an idea about the identity of the D clan, in chapter 1066 shaka told robin that the empty century is the history of a war that was between 20 kingdoms and a specific kingdom which had an advanced civilization and after the 20 kingdoms victory they have formed an organization called the world government and then deleted everything that has something to do with that advanced kingdom from history, and shaka said that he thinks the ohara incident happened because they found out about that kingdom’s existence, and in chapter 1085 imu said that D was the name of our enemies, what if the people who used to live in that advanced kingdom are the D clan? I think they were so powerful and dangerous and they were a serious menace since 20 kingdoms had to cooperate with each other just to face that specific kingdom I mean wow!

I think it makes sense for Kizaru to go down right here (or soon). Seeing as he’s the only Admiral not replaced post-time skip- and with Garp’s disappearance- it’s time to usher in that new era and replace Kizaru with someone new.

I have a personal theory that Boa Hancock's ancestor was part of Joyboy's crew and loved him which would explain why the lineage factor also affected S-Snake because I doubt she was cloned around the same time as Luffy meeting Boa on Amazon Lily.

Considering what we've gotten so far about Elbaf culture I'm super stoked about finally getting there with the crew! As a Swede everything Elbafian hits home so hard as they're all references to my own culture. The moment Oda actually included a semla of all things my jaw literally dropped, we still to this day have a national semla day here in Sweden and the winter solstace is still a comon topic each december as we enter a stage of no sunlight for days or weeks! lol I'm gonna feel like the smartest guy in the room as soon as Elbaf becomes the community topic

People write Kizaru off too often. I genuinely feel like Oda is cooking something big for him. He's so elusive noone really knows how strong he could actually be.
I like to think that the fear on Luffy's face is more the trauma from Sabaody than anything else. The last time the strawhats saw Kizaru the entire crew had to be completely separated just to survive.

I would love if Vivi finally came back to the crew and it feels more and more feasible as the chapters go on. Especially after the whole thing with Ainu, the Five Elder Stars and Cobra. Like it’s obviously dangerous for her to back to Alabasta and Big News Morgan can only keep her safe for so long if that is what he’s doing. Or if he’s just keeping her around for that BIG NEWS story with her father then once he has it what’s to stop him from just kicking her to the curb. Either way her odd of and nicety for returning to the crew keeps becoming more likely. Hopefully we don’t get total blue balls like we did with both Carrot and Yamato.

I feel as though after the straw hats flee egghead, the marines will be scouring egghead and find the real Bonney emerging from Kuma’s memories, confirming it’s not the real Bonney on Sunny with the crew.
I think you brought up a good point that needs to be discussed more. The seraphim were created using warlord DNA. We have seen that conquerer’s haki often is passed down between generations in families.
I think it’s the next piece of the puzzle of inherited will. Which leads me to believe that the gorosei is very aware of which countries breed the most defiant bunch. They use their weapons to prevent history from repeating itself. They destroyed a Defiant island, made it into a prison as a means to curb rebellion.
If Impel Down is indeed a microcosm, then the Gorosei won’t be brought down by one, but two, main factions.
My theory as to why Luffy looked scared is that when puffy fights strong opponents he's always away from his crew or at least not in striking distance. (That's excepted Zoro and Sanji). And he knows Robin and some of his crew are already in bad shape.

I think this chapter somewhat explains why everyone was able to escape Kizaru in sabaody, they didnt want to fight him so he just let them run away.
