Not sure why this was a controversy from announcement, but the C1 was an armor tank. and the Zeus was a shield tank. apparent from stats @ concept. if you like the look, fly your heart out. :)
I love this kind of comparison. However, the insurance claim time for the Zeus isn't 51 and 53 minutes, it's around 10 minutes, and 3 or 2 minutes expedited
Think about that for a second. The MSR has about HALF the hull HP of the Spirit C1 (37,400). But, I would also like to add that when the Zeus CL was in concept, the devs did mention that it would have armor plating to protect the cargo it carries. I suppose they poorly equipped the C1 so badly that they needed to nerf the Zeus in some way atm.
Total hull HP means nothing, you have to look at the HP of the critical parts (body and nose). For example, the Taurus has 129K total HP but only 10K body. If body HP reaches 0 you're dead.
The amount of armor storage is based on the amount of seats/crew, later in the updates we will not be able to fly in full armor and will have to swap into that armor in pvp encounters or for exploration.
Ship tractor beams have worked just fine for me, remember that the distance setting like on the hand tractors require you to hold alt on a ship because scroll wheel on remote turrets (including tractor beams) is bound to turn speed by default. Alt overrides and puts you into controlling ship tractor distances.
Sad thing is the C1 can hold 96 SCU of cargo.... its just that the middle lane has no grid. If only it had a bottom/front hatch/ladders system. The fact that the C1 and Zeus have compariable sizes it has double the SCU grid.... is kind of silly
Personally I prefer and will be keeping my C1 as I just like the aesthetics of that ship more. Though the easier manual cargo loading and unloading of the C1 is also a factor, but it's mostly the aesthetics. I never liked the RSI aesthetics and design language.
i wish the airlock on the zeus had a button under the opening with a deployable ladder to make it a second entrance into the ship. if the ladder was able to be deployed only when needed and not just when the airlock opened
Can the Gemini take the fuel out of conquered or abandoned ships before you salvage free fuel no mining no hangers or make something that can transfer the fuel from shop to ship
Fair comparison, however. The C1 is $50 cheaper, so it's a bit unfair to compare to the other two. And while the C1 and the Clipper are both compact haulers... the ES is an Explorer. So it's a different category of ship altogether when you're looking at their intended roles. Use the right tool for the right job. Anyone looking to be an explorer isn't even going to consider the other two.
I do love the fact that CIG didn't make the CL a straight upgrade for the C1. They are very different ships with different design approaches. Though the Zeus hull HP is way too low. Even if the C1 is exceptionally beefy, I feel the Zeuses should hover around 35k HP or so, around the same as the Cutty Black and base Freelancer.
Didn't they? The only things I see in advantage for Spirit are aesthetics, top speed (which you rarely use thanks to master modes), HP (which might change with armor) and maybe offensive armaments (which are somewhat redundant on cargo ship)... Otherwise the CL is superior.
11:50 The Zeus does have VTOL 3 extra engines at the bottom will come out when activated. Which is actually a plus because you dont lose forward thrust when avtivating it
love the c1 but i really want the zeus for hte better cargo. its just a shame that the size of the c1 makes it odd it doesnt have that much cargo space
Hold on, there's something really odd. Why does it feel like the C1 has more space inside it's cargo bay than the Zeus MkII CL but half its capacity ? I don't get it.
Because the c1 doesn’t Let u enter the cockpit anywhere else they leave u that walkway in the middle while the Zeus literally is the same size just no walkway so if u max the c1 cargo u still leave out the back but if u max the Zeus cargo u HAVE to leave the front
I didn't know about the secret place in the airlock area of the zeus... will test it on my Zeus. how cool is that, thanks. Perhaps you can really use it for smuggling 😉
I wonder if the ship modules gonna increase the gap between the speeds even more in the future. Also... The Spirit A1 being a bomber with such a huge "here i am sign on" radar comapred to similair sized ships is strange just as with the C1 XD
signature now differ depending on the components you use now if you use full military you'll be super beacon in the space and actually if you overlap them together you'll see zeus is only 2/3 width of spirit when the wings upfolded
The clear direction of the design here is that the Zeuses are meant for a crew of two to three but the Spirit is meant to be soloable or with a max crew of two. That probably accounts for the incresed number of shields and the power plants to support life support once that comes online.
@@Ssecave hull hp but thats gonna be going away in favor of component health, other than that pilot dps until blades come in. so in the long run nothing much.
Zeus ES has S3 Radar with huge sensitivity. Of cause all can be changed by now ES detects ships within 40km range and can scan it. From brochure: "With a focus on exploration, the Zeus Mk II ES features a robust radar package for finding new discoveries along with enhanced weaponry and shielding to help bring them back home."
I totally agree.... The sad thing is.. When the C1 was concepted... The community told the devs to include a second entrance in the ship due one being missed with the MSR but it never happened
One exit is now a part of the Crusader design language. The MSR and C1 both having them is no longer an accident. If the Intrepid has a hanger only exit, it's a feature not a bug.
@@MersageSWwhat a disgusting feature 🤢 On the bright side borders will come from one spot On the down side longer exit/entry And predictable boarding/exiting…
Isn't the hull HP comparison a little misleading? The Zeus has 15k for body health and 9k nose health, while the Spirit has 16.5k for the body and 13.5k for the nose. That's a 6k difference overall, and from my understanding (which may be wrong, so correct me if it is), those are the only parts that matter when it comes to blowing up a ship. The other 30k HP comes from the wings and rear of the Spirit, which (if you've flown a Spirit) losing a VTOL, let alone a wing, is a miserable flight experience.
Yes, but those "extra" parts are good bullet sponges. We'll see what happens when armor becomes a thing. I imagine some crumple zone between the enemy and the important components can help.
The Zeus have VTOL thrusters, but they are 3 extra thrusters on the bottom, which get activated. It does not change the main thrusters, which is a benefit on my eyes.
You mention cargo capacity, but you really need to try and load both the C1 and CL to both maximum official capacity and maximum maximum capacity and see how long they take. C1 is so much easier to fully load. Takes like 26 boxes to hit max official load in CL but only takes 3x 32 SCU crates to hit max max capacity in the C1. But since 32 SCU crates are not accepted every where, lets say 6 crates to hit max max capacity in C1. In the time it takes to load all those crates into the CL, I could run the C1 to drop off crates and likely be almost back before the CL is even taking off for first run. So by the time I load up and head back for drop off, I bet the CL is still unloading its first trip while I am on my way to drop off my 192nd SCU. I would really like to see you run a short cargo mission from home hangar to space station in both ships. That would be some very good info to have.
Those radically different claim times/costs between the Zeus and Spirit (10x longer/10x more expensive) lead me to believe someone put a decimal point in the wrong place for the Zeus. You get near 1-hour reclaim times for ships like the Carrack, not ships of this size. Also, note that the Zeus does in fact have dedicated VTOL thrusters on the bottom (seen in another user's video).
I'm going to give the zeus a try but I'm 50/50 right now about melting and going back to the C1. Still not feeling it but going to give it the benefit of the doubt. I wonder how long it takes to get your character onto the tarmac in the C1 via the ramp versus using the ladder on the Zeus? The ladder exit animation takes a few seconds?
C1 owner here. I sadly have to disagree, the C1 was made obsolescent in its main role even though CIG clearly tried to make some adjustments (which for some reason seem like they are all combat-focused which isn't something you take your ship into). And honestly, with CIG claims earlier I expected the difference in SCM speed to be much higher (but it wasn't the first time they lied in Q&A).
I'm still confused on the cargo difference. The cl has so much more cargo while being a slightly smaller ship. I haven't seen directly, but it looks like they get more space by putting stuff on an upper level. I feel like they could do that with lots of ships.
You can fit an extra 32 scu container in the C1 if you put it in the aisle down the middle, CIG just doesn't let you do it officially cause they didn't give the ship a second entrance. Of course on the CL you can do this though, because... ? Yeah there's no good reason for why they would give the CL a second (and third) entrance but not the C1, its pretty obvious they just made a bad design with the C1 (which they knew about already since everyone complained about the MSR) then decided to make a new ship that fixed the problems rather than redesign the old ship.
@@yikes3049It's so easy to use the C1's ship tractor beam to place and remove the third middle 32scu box. There really is no need for a ladder. Love my C1 as it is now. Will be glad to see less around the verse now with all the Zeus fan boys moving on!
@BizzleMade1 Couldn't be further from the truth. I'd be happy to shell out a few extra bucks for an upgrade, but I don't think it's any better than the C1.
The HP and insurance differences don't make any sense... the zeus moves slower in every way yet has 3x less hp?? Isn't balancing normally the other way around? Slower ships get better durability to compensate lol. Claim times of 40 mins vs. 6 mins what is CIG smoking lol.
They're smoking future plans. My guess is that they think armor is closer in the pipeline then we believe it to be and the lower HP It's going to get covered up by that armor. I pray and cope that that's the case at least.
@@papascronch yeah hopefully, at least they seem to have fixed the insurance claim times, so they’re more in line with each other. Armor coming SOON ™️
The Spirit C1 has more total hull HP because it has a lot more hull parts than the Zeus. But the critical hull part's HP (body) is very similar between the two, 16.5K for the C1 and 15K for the Zeus.
Tbh still pissed that they gave us the zeus mk2. And not mk1. Also how the hell did they not learn from the starrunner and didn't ad a 2nd entrance/exit for the spirit.
The Zeus kinda feels like there isn’t any space for actual ship components and fuel. Almost the entirety of the ship is livable space, which is just a little odd
All these weapons racks but no where to put spare ammo!. We need an ammo drawer ! wouldn't call the space next to airlock as a secret area, more of a "cubby hole" ideal place to stowaway in :D
I really like it so far. I also have the C1 and while they are comparable "as of now" they are really different when the other mechanics come online. Cargo/speed/atmosphere/range/scanners etc. I may keep both, but we shall see.
You will hardly put any cargo of grid in the CL. While you can put more than 32 SCU of Cargo of grid in the C1. Also the Zeus has VTOL Thrusters, but they are fixed.
ES and C1 have similar amounts of empty off-grid space and are a closer comparison. But the CL utilises most of its space as a cargo grid, which is a good thing. The ES for shafted, especially not allowing a 3SCU stack.
Can you make more comparisons like this? I really like this format

Best comparisons i have ever seen between the 3 (but still dont know wich to keep lol, cause nobody is perfect). Waht about you Capt ?
I'm really curious to see how much of an impact those wings on the C1 will have when we get more changes to atmospheric flight.
Very good video. 👍
I changed my C1 for the CL and Im regretting it so bad
Great info. Thank you.
I got the C1 because it looked cool, but now I'm eyeing either the CL or ES Zeus
Personally, just the size difference and the ladder sell me on the Zeus. It'll be so much easier to takeoff and land, and to access the ship.
Ship tractor beams have worked just fine for me, remember that the distance setting like on the hand tractors require you to hold alt on a ship because scroll wheel on remote turrets (including tractor beams) is bound to turn speed by default. Alt overrides and puts you into controlling ship tractor distances.
ty for this . now it makes me easier to make my pledge appreciate it.
Sad thing is the C1 can hold 96 SCU of cargo.... its just that the middle lane has no grid. If only it had a bottom/front hatch/ladders system. The fact that the C1 and Zeus have compariable sizes it has double the SCU grid.... is kind of silly
Exactly.
C1 Tractor Beam has a tiny toggle to the bottom left of the seat on the center console. "Power On" select that then enter remote turret
Perfect, thanks foxy
Personally I prefer and will be keeping my C1 as I just like the aesthetics of that ship more. Though the easier manual cargo loading and unloading of the C1 is also a factor, but it's mostly the aesthetics. I never liked the RSI aesthetics and design language.
I'd say that I prefer the value of the C1 right now, as it's cost compared to the next level of the Zeus Mk2 puts them on a different playing field.
i wish the airlock on the zeus had a button under the opening with a deployable ladder to make it a second entrance into the ship. if the ladder was able to be deployed only when needed and not just when the airlock opened
you should do a re run on that ship tractor beams. takes some time to get used to it ;)
Can the Gemini take the fuel out of conquered or abandoned ships before you salvage free fuel no mining no hangers or make something that can transfer the fuel from shop to ship
Why didn't cig put the ladder outside of the airlock? And use the space inside where the ladder is now for something else?
At least there is a ladder and an airlock...
I think you're putting the cart before the horse, We should just be glad this thing has a second point of entry tbh lmao
Zeus airlock is not an airlock as there is only one door !And it is not even a docking collar as the exterior would be obstructed.
I think, the docking collar will be added to the Zeus when ship to ship docking is implemented.
11:50
The Zeus does have VTOL
3 extra engines at the bottom will come out when activated.
Which is actually a plus because you dont lose forward thrust when avtivating it
The spirit also doesn't loose forward thrust. It isn't a cutty.
@@vonrosphe3098 you are right, however my point is still valid 👌
Curious where you found the Cross section for front side and top. I'd love to peek at my favorite ships and see those values
love the c1 but i really want the zeus for hte better cargo. its just a shame that the size of the c1 makes it odd it doesnt have that much cargo space
I Prefer the Zeus to the spirit, purely on the basis of aesthetics.
I went with the ES, as I have an MSR if I want to haul larger cargo.
You sold me thanks.
I got MSR too and I love it.
ES seems to make more sense.
Also... The Spirit A1 being a bomber with such a huge "here i am sign on" radar comapred to similair sized ships is strange just as with the C1 XD
you forgot to mention that they are changing the amount of shields etc on all ships with 4.0
signature now differ depending on the components you use now
if you use full military you'll be super beacon in the space
and actually if you overlap them together you'll see zeus is only 2/3 width of spirit when the wings upfolded
The clear direction of the design here is that the Zeuses are meant for a crew of two to three but the Spirit is meant to be soloable or with a max crew of two. That probably accounts for the incresed number of shields and the power plants to support life support once that comes online.
But the reality will be that it will be fine to solo the Zeus anyway. So appart from its look. The C1 doesn't have a lot for itself.
The Zeus CL does have VTOL thrusters and they do work. You looked at them in another video but didn’t switch VTOL on so you didn’t see them firing.
the ship tractor beams should function like the ATLS beam for retrieval and like the handheld for deposit to justify its use over the alternatives
The Zeus got 3 weapons racks ?
Is the C1 getting an update as I was under the impression it has 2 size 3 not 4.
The c1 tractor is easy to use
Shook my head when he said that. Been smashing out the ~110scu hauling missions with my C1 tractor beam no worries at all
The Zeus shows just how much of a missed opportunity the c1 really is,
I totally agree.... The sad thing is.. When the C1 was concepted... The community told the devs to include a second entrance in the ship due one being missed with the MSR but it never happened
Yeah but then you wouldn’t buy the Zeus :p
One exit is now a part of the Crusader design language. The MSR and C1 both having them is no longer an accident. If the Intrepid has a hanger only exit, it's a feature not a bug.
@@MersageSWwhat a disgusting feature 🤢
On the bright side borders will come from one spot
On the down side longer exit/entry
And predictable boarding/exiting…
@@MersageSW that doesn't make it any less sht bad design features are worse than bugs
Actually the BMM is better lol awesome video!
You're right!
That is correct, and good point, but the ship armor is coming in soon and that will change a lot of these hull Hp.
Yes, but those "extra" parts are good bullet sponges. We'll see what happens when armor becomes a thing. I imagine some crumple zone between the enemy and the important components can help.
Just amazing.
On both Zues ships, there is a VTOL icon on the MFD. Can anyone explain that function of the MFD ?
Thankyou Foxy
Which Zeus drops 10 size 5 bombs again?
(I forget)
its the a1 sprit that drops bombs not the zues.
@@COMMANDERHAWK22 That was irony.
@@nickeling2776 Actually it's sarcasm.
@@PeterMKent Okay.
The seat animation for Spirit also takes a lot of time, so Zeus is also superior in that regard. :(
Interesting that the Zeus didn't immediately obsolete the C1. Good that we'll see some variety in the verse.
C1 owner here. I sadly have to disagree, the C1 was made obsolescent in its main role even though CIG clearly tried to make some adjustments (which for some reason seem like they are all combat-focused which isn't something you take your ship into). And honestly, with CIG claims earlier I expected the difference in SCM speed to be much higher (but it wasn't the first time they lied in Q&A).
one correction. Zeus has VTOL trusters on the underside
Don't forget that the roll rate of the Spirit is greater with the VTOL activated.
@@RG_Old_mate you sound a lil salty lol.
Just picking with you.
@BizzleMade1 Couldn't be further from the truth. I'd be happy to shell out a few extra bucks for an upgrade, but I don't think it's any better than the C1.
@@RG_Old_mate did you click on the read more button. If not I said "just picking with you" meaning I was just messing around.
Great video. thanks
The Spirit C1 has more total hull HP because it has a lot more hull parts than the Zeus. But the critical hull part's HP (body) is very similar between the two, 16.5K for the C1 and 15K for the Zeus.
The Zeus looks nice, but I like the C1. I feel the cargo space of the C1 could be optimized though.
Tbh still pissed that they gave us the zeus mk2. And not mk1. Also how the hell did they not learn from the starrunner and didn't ad a 2nd entrance/exit for the spirit.
I wanted the mk1 I took a deep look at the mk2 and nah I'm good il keep my money 😅
The Zeus does have vtol thrusters.
Look underneath and turn vtol on.
11:50 - The zeus does have VTOL, the CL even has extra outlets for more VTOL power than the ES version
16:22 from now on, I’m calling that “the foxhole”
I’m going to keep my C1. And pass on the Ford Zeus. Lol love the amenities of the RSI goal post moving ships but im Crusader for life.
That's why my friends stay away from me 😂 😂
The Zeus kinda feels like there isn’t any space for actual ship components and fuel. Almost the entirety of the ship is livable space, which is just a little odd
RSI magic... :(
All these weapons racks but no where to put spare ammo!. We need an ammo drawer
! wouldn't call the space next to airlock as a secret area, more of a "cubby hole" ideal place to stowaway in :D
(Psst, nobody seems to have pointed this out yet but your thumbnail says "Sprit C1" and not "Spirit C1")
lol..thanks you, gonna correct that right away
id take 400i and c1 over the zeus models!
My birthdays on the 9th u wanna gimme 100 bucks for the 400i😂😭?upgrade my c1
the ladder already makes it the best ship in the game
Tractor bean in C1 is ok to me, i use a loot.
Ill be honest, i think the CL is overrated, its built nice but its a large crew count for such puny amounts of SCU and is a pain to load.
The ES is so good
I really like it so far.
Freelancer max vs Zeus please 🙏
