So, have you moved with a cat before? If so, did any of these tips help? 🏠

My baby bolted a few days ago during a move, but from the old house when the moving men were moving the beds upstairs. We came back to the old neighborhood for 2 days, 2x a day. We mixed sardines in oil and tuna in oil. She finally came out the hiding spot and followed us into the old house. She is now home with us. Awe, she was so confused. We kept calling her name gently till she finally emerged from under the shed. It took time but our baby is home with us now. She was kneading, rubbing against us and even slept in our beds with us for the first time. It created a deeper bond because we never gave up🥰

I honestly didn’t do much. My cat doesn’t mind going in the carrier. She’s a 5 year old tuxedo. We made a 20 hour car ride with stops and she was perfect. We just put a blanket over the carrier and slept the whole time.

TY for thinking of these tips. •When leaving the old home, I take the cat in crate on a move-out tour of their favorite places inside and outside. I tell them they can bring their memories with them, to help them say goodbye to the old place.
•At the new place, I take them on a crated tour of outside and inside, before arriving in the safe room where they will start out.
•On the move-in tour, I encourage them that they will find new favorite places to love in their new home.
    🙏🐾💙

Moved out of our house in CA where all three of my original cats were from, lived in a trailer for 2 years, cats loved it, loved the places we stopped at, and now we live in KY, two of those three cats have now died and been buried here (RIP Painted Desert and Macgyver). Bingo doesn't quite care where we live, she just wants to be a house ornament now.

Yes, I've moved with a cat before (multiple cats on multiple occasions) and yes, I've done a lot of these things.

I moved, and had my guard dog laying next to me on the front seat, and my cat in his carrier. My cat yowled until I wanted to drive off a bridge. lol. So I let him out of his carrier, and he went and laid next to my dog and was comforted. Problem solved. (My dog was raised with cats, so he was fine with it.) It's strangers he has a problem with

One thing I learned during a move, if you don't have enough time for a thorough deep cleaning. Use your vacuum cleaner to help spread your old home scents around. I have found this helpful when making a long distance move and you simply can not get to the new place to clean.

I'm pretty sure microchipped cats have been the standard of shelter cats where I am in Australia for many years. You basically have a chip already in as well as spay/neutered by the time you take them home. What's difficult is cats bond to territory, I imagine trying to have lots of things with their scent around and help them feel like they "own" the new territory, will make things easier.

my cat and I moved 2 years ago and will move in 2 months again. last time my cat was really stressed by me packing everything in ~2weeks, being put into his carrier while having a moving company clear his territory, put him into a room in new apartment and have constructions done in first 2 weeks, especially as my internet wasn't working as intended. He got stomach issues due to stress. I got a valerian odor to calm him. It helped a great deal. (I am not a friend of pheromone based odors - I can smell them (although i shouldn't be able to) and feel yucky, I also am able to smell the valerian and tolerate it)
So this time I started packing things up 3 months before moving - at a slow and steady progress rate, so he can get used to the changes. He needs to deal with the carrier until apartment got emptied and new one filled. There won't be construction works in the new apartment as these are done right now (2 months before move). Right now we are sitting in a living room with 15 boxes packed while shelves are emptied in living room and bed room.
My cat is curious but also knows something is up but takes it like a champ - for now.
Moving day will look like this: he gets into carrier, gets put into an emptied room (most likely bathroom as it's fastest to clear out) and stays there until everything's over. After that I take him to the new apartment 15minutes away by public transportation (which he is used to) and he gets put into the kitchen as it will have low to none traffic or the bathroom after the washing machine is placed (still in the carrier!).
I'll put in the valerian odor in the bedroom after the moving company left and will open the carrier. He is pretty curious and feels safe with me around so i will just sit and wait until he moves. As soon he moves he's accepting circumstances pretty fast although I might be in for some nights of yowling.
the one tip i'm missing is: be patient! about everything related to a move with cats.
    * microchips are mandatory in Europe if cats are crossing borders of countries and most areas (within countries) do not allow cats without chips anymore - my cat is also registered with its insurance and 2 organizations in case it would be able to flee/run away.

If you must FLY - make sure your cat is in a warmed, pressurized hold - many cats have died from freezing temps and depressurization of cargo holds. GET IT IN WRITING IF POSSIBLE. Best - buy your cat a ticket for the seat next to you!

I wish this was posted before Nov 2020 because we moved that month with our cat and it was almost impossible to move her tons of scratches on my parents and when we got her in the car my dad knocked on the car with and the car alarm went off and our cat ran back inside so I had to wait an extra day to see my cat again but we found out is when our dog was in the car our cat was more trusting to go in the car so that made it easier but unfortunately we don’t have a dog anymore our dog passed away in Augest .

il mio leo adora fin da cucciolo il cibo umido con tanta salsa e su consiglio del veterinario il cibo secco verso sera e non piu' di una manciata, perche' con il tempo porta alla formazione di calcoli e quindi problemi di insufficienza renale...

I have 5 cats. 😬 I could only imagine the crying and screaming from all 5 of them at once in the back of a car. They can't even tolerate a couple of miles to their vet's office! That being said, since I inherited these beauties along with the house I know I can't move far if I had the opportunity. Because I wouldn't want to stress them out and they have little kitty heart attacks. Trouble is, I'm not from this area and don't like the area I'd much rather leave! But, it wouldn't be fair to them to travel thousands of miles not that I have transportation anyway. I'm no monster and refuse to dump them at the shelter so I can go back home. So we're all stuck in an unhappy situation. 😅

I’m moving across the country and I know the cat won’t like the trip. But I don’t want to re home him. He’s lived with the dog and I for his entire life. I’m going to ask my vet to sedate him. It’s a 30 hr trip. My former daughter in law is a vet and she sedated her two cats for the trip. They have adjusted very well.
