I wear pull-up pants because my hips are smaller than my waist. I prefer drop waist. The wristbands roll and cut into my hips. I wear it with tunics or mini dresses. I'm 69.
What is wrong with pull on jeans? I found them when I was pregnant and ever since I just love them. I have a pair that is lined with a layer of fleece and wow they kept me warm during winter too! Since my tops are usually long they cover over the elastic band. So convenient for a very busy mum like me! Practical too! They look cheap? I really am not sure what you even mean.
Thank you for mentioning that! My dad was a textile company rep and he taught me the same thing. Also, woven vs. printed patterns - woven (higher quality) has the pattern on both sides of the fabric and printed (cheaper/lower quality) has the pattern on top while underneath it's plain white. He also had me inspecting fabric content labels and checking seams to look for any puckering.
Thank you! I feel like such an old fogie when I see stripes and plaids that aren't matched and can hardly look at the garments. I did make almost all my clothes for many years and was taught that not matching stripes and plaids was completely unacceptable.
Pull on jeans are actually to accommodate different waist to hip ratios and are usually created with the idea that the wearer will not be showing the waist line. It will be hidden under clothes. It’s actually quite difficult for some body shapes to find jeans that fit.
Agreed! It’s very easy for someone with a perfect body to say they look cheap, but for some of us it’s our only option to find something that accommodates our individual shapes!
@@essemmgee idk about this… maybe it’s just preference because I am curvy, have a belly pooch and I find that those jegging pull on styles have no support for the stomach and your belly pooches out. I find styles with zippers better for keeping tummy in
@@Msstarstruck12It’s definitely personal preference AND depends on the jeans! I totally agree with you that a lot of the pull up leggings have zero support. I wish I could find a pair of zip up jeans that worked for me but I seem to be an odd size. I carry my weight around my hips and mid section, and if the jeans fit my mid section it’s WAY too big in my butt and legs, and if it fits in the legs I have a total camel toe 🤣 I also prefer the leggings that have back pockets and look like actual jeans, not the pocketless ones. That definitely helps the look! Would love some good recs on zipped jeans brands if you have any!
Since Shea is very thin, she may not understand the struggle that some women have with clothes fitting, especially apple shapes. Some people have larger waists than hips and that stretch waistband helps.
Came to the comments to see who else loves their pull on jeans. It appears to be the most commented on. They are just very comfortable for those who are not skinny & who find that the waist of regular jeans can cut in to our tummy’s. 😊
Me too! I was digging what she was saying until then, and I had to literally change devices so I could come on here to comment and see how many others LOVE their pull on jeans like me! : )
Trust me - affluent people love their pull-on jeans and jeggings. In fact, we nearly always opt for comfort (and I'm smaller than a size 0) But what the vast majority of us do not wear are those jeans with the ripped knees
Pull-on jeans (and all pull on pants) are *awesome*, especially for those of us with a tummy. That said, the waist should be covered up!! Revealing that it's a pull-on is awful 😂
Yes! I have a tummy and normal jeans literally feel like they're cutting me. It's painful, especially when sitting. My shirts always cover the top part and the rest look like normal jeans so idk what the issue is.
I gained weight due to menopause and my pull on pants keep me clothed during this “season” of my life. I aspire to go back to buttons and zippers but in the meantime I’m keeping my pull on pants.
Finally! Someone pointed out the cheapness of a "half lining" in dresses 😅 no matter how cute an outfit is. The see through dress with half a lining is just screaming cheap.
Dresses with ties or stretchy sections are actually a great way to shop more sustainably. Most people’s bodies fluctuate in size a bit and it ensures your clothes fit you longer and means you don’t have to buy new ones as often. There are definitely good quality brands with this intention. (Probably not amazon’s intent though, admittedly)
It doesn’t look cheap. In fact, it helps accentuate and give the illusion of a more defined waist for smaller women who have a shorter torso, smaller hips, or slender build overall will get a more hourglass look. That elastic usually extends a little so it gives the appearance of a longer torso as well.
its so much simpler to buy the pattern and make it yourself, you get high end patterns and it reflects itself, you buy a quality fabric n you wind up looking like youre a rich girl,,,,, but you made it yourself n saved approx 2 G......... plus it fits perfectly or take apart an old dress that fir perfectly n make your own pattern size etc
@@lydiaragonese4768 That is correct. Belts and ties come with very lovely, high-end clothing because while "too tight" is never flattering on anybody, fitted is, and everyone looks best with fitted clothing, and often times the style is intended to be loose both up top and on the bottom, but still intended to accentuate the waist. Affluent women wear items like these all the time :)
Pull on jeans are not cheap looking. My friend that has severe rheumatoid arthritis wears them. Her fingers and hands are in pain and swollen most of the time. Wearing pull on pants makes her day to day activities and going out makes it much easier.
FYI…. The silly loops on garments with tie belts are only there to minimize the chance of losing the belt from the time the item leaves the manufacturer to when it’s purchased. Just like labels on a mattress or pillows, you CAN remove them. Just clip the thread loops as close to the seam. It’s likely the garment will look better when you tie the belt where ‘your’ waist is.
I watch your channel regularly and really enjoy it. However, I was a little put off by today’s video. With regards to not buying pull up jeans, some women, including me, have certain issues like injuries or disabilities, who can only wear pull up jeans because they don’t hurt our backs or wherever their injuries are. Please keep in mind that not everyone is young and healthy but still enjoy your channel. Thanks
Thank you for this comment! I tried to leave a somewhat similar comment the other day eluding to the fact that we all come in different shapes & sizes and have different physical needs. I have digestive issues & pull on pants have been a life saver for me sitting in an office all day. My top covers the top part of my pants so nobody even knows they are pull on pants. I deleted my comment because another viewer told me that I should just go watch plus size clothing videos because Shea can’t please everyone. Which I was confused by because this person automatically made an assumption about me. I was just trying to say that sometimes these types of videos lack awareness 🤷🏻♀️
If I may, this is not in any way intended to sound "uppity" but rather to ease your mind a bit. I am a person of means who lives alongside affluent people, and we love our pull-on pants. Yes, I'm sure we may be paying more for thicker material or what have you, but honestly jeggings and other pull-on pants are perfectly fine. Part of living in luxury is just that - being comfortable. I never wear jeans The key is to find nice pieces that fit properly. In a perfect world everyone would be able to get the best fabrics, but just do the best you can with what you have and make the most of it This is a bit of a side rant, but one thing affluent people tend to not really engage in is jumping on trends all the time. For the most part, we just don't. We get some trendy accessories, but we also don't pay a lot of money for them because there's no point with trends Ladies, keep doing you. With the exception of the zippers showing on dresses, these are really matters of personal opinion and taste, and I really don't agree with her on most of them
Large buttons on a sweater is extremely popular. More so in the cottagcore, library, dark academia, cozy girl gamer vibe. It is seen as comfy and cozy. And a lot of us being stressed with anxiety it's what we are needed. So I'll keep mine lol ~sweaters are just blankets u can wear in public without being judged. 💕
How ripped jeans look depend on many factors, age, where you wear them and how ripped they are. It’s just a style, it’s not supposed to look expensive or not.
Pull-on jeans have saved my sanity. As a neurodivergent person, I have sensory issues with tight waistlines and especially with the button on jeans and trousers waists. I become unhinged with discomfort. Pull-on pants and jeans let me fit in and wear modern cuts while avoiding the extreme discomfort of a button waist.
Thanks for the video Shea! But I have to hard disagree about the elastic waist on dresses. They make dresses so comfortable and versatile for all the body stages that a woman can go through in a month, let alone in life! Nearly all my dresses have some sort of shirring - some around the waist, some in the chest or back - but it's saved me from having to buy new dresses when I fluctuate in size. I think it's smart for brands to do this, even if it feels like a shortcut. They're accommodating wonky body types that don't perfectly fit in numbers or letters. I use Madewell as an example, who do elastic-waist dresses in really classy designs.
I agree with a lot of these but I live in Michigan, so in the freezing winters I do sometimes wear the pull on jeans with a bulky sweater. They work kind of like jeggings but a little heavier weight, so warmer. I don't wear them with the waistband exposed
The “annoying little strings” that come with tie belts are meant to be TEMPORARY!! CUT THEM OFF !! Their sole purpose is to keep the belt with the dress ~ once you buy the dress, no need for them. You don’t keep the plastic, cellophane wrap on a lamp shade. Same thing. It’s temporary!!
Cheap to me are unlined dresses made out of lightweight fabric or dresses that show their lining. Other cheap-looking garments are ripped jeans, crooked stitching, unhemmed pants (too long), obvious polyester/ plastic looking fabric, unmatched plaids, and long stichting length. Usually, the more construction details a garment has: pintucks, darts at the bust, darts in the back, interfacing, and understitching, the more expensive the garment looks. Also, a good fit makes a garment look expensive. By the way, I am a hobby garment sewist, so I pay a lot of attention to details.
And women who don't wear the proper undergarments so their clothes (skirts and dresses in particular) don't hang properly and/or suck in where they shouldn't.
So funny about the jeans that kind of puddle at the bottom…I think those are fine! The ones that look bad and cheap to me are the floods that sit at the ankle…especially if they flare out AND are short!!! To me, those are the ones that look cheap 😂
As a tall person I always long for the “puddleng” (skinny) jeans. To me they actually do look expencive as most of the regular and affordable stores only ever had skinny jeans that reached my ankles when I used to buy them and I always felt like a child who had outgrown her pants… you could only get longer ones from the more expencive stores where there were different length options so to find skinny jeans that puddled was always a jackpot for me (not to mention that it is -20 degrees Celsius where I live during winter and I do not want my ankles exposed in this weather 😀)
I agree with everything but the pull-on jeans - They are very comfortable and the high waist feels great - I wear them with a sweater or over blouse but I am older than you ane a little heavier - The rest I think you are right on,
Shirring is a little tricky...too much is definitely too much but for us curvier body types elastic shirted panels or accents are a great way to gather and smooth comfortably to accentuate lovely curves. I agree that a tailored look is more appropriate for a formal-type setting but especially in a casual summer style shirring adds a flirty and feminine touch without being to binding 😉
Well, I came here to comment on the same, somewhat... Shirring, depending on the quality of the work, fabric, and of the items' design, can be beautifully flattering or horribly cheap looking. The stitch that Shea was referring to is actually called "smocking."" This is something that I personally associate with childrens dresses, pinafores and aprons.. ( you might have heard of smocked dresses, etc. referenced in old timey childrens books) My Mother wore this style in childhood dresses the 50's (though it dates much further back), but then it was more of a ridgid stitchery rather than the cheap elastic they incorporate on today's ready to wear.. Unless you have a Bridgerton ( et al) style function or preference, then skip it. It is a juvenile look and comes off as cheap and unflattering. Likewise, the huge buttons are a travesty and should be avoided at all costs! I understand the function, but none of us live in Arctic climates requiring that, especially on cheap sweaters. Love you, Shea, and thank you!!
For me the stretchy waist or tie sash belt has helped me get back into dressing in a more stylish way. I hated shopping before bc I could never find clothes that fit properly that were comfortable to wear. Having that stretch or being able to tie the waist the way I want is a HUGE plus. I also sometimes switch out the tie belt for a nicer belt.
As a very tall woman, (I’m almost 6’), I am always thrilled when there’s a long or extra long inseam length when ordering jeans/pants and love when there’s extra fabric around the ankle area. I’ll never tire of that.
Yes! I'm almost 5'10 and I'd rather have some bunching at the ankle than this weird mid ankle length. It reminds me of never being able to find jeans that were long enough while I was growing up.
@@Jemjaba Yes! It ends up just looking like your pants shrunk in the wash. Also, if it’s cold; you get a draft up your pant leg. No thank you! I want my ankles warm too.
Right. If you are a size 2-6 then regular jeans look great but if you aren't super skinny then the pull on jeans are more flattering. I disagree with her telling people not to buy them. She has the body type that can wear anything but we don't all have that.
I agree with all of these - especially the yellowing on cheap jeans. It’s good to have a reminder what to watch out for when buying clothes/accessories.
That's why having your own style makes it more exciting...it maybe look cheap to you but not to others...there're women who really knows how to carry a dollar dress...or an outdated styles...it's a matter of confidence and aura. Love watching your videos but again confidence makes an outfit stands out the crowd.❤🇵🇭
The exposed zippers drive me crazy! I had my eye on a gorgeous wool skirt from Theory. Not a cheap skirt, but it has an exposed zipper at the back. I just can't do it. Totally agree with your other points as well.
I never understood the exposed zipper trend in dresses. Literally the first time I saw one I thought the girl made the dress herself and it wasn’t finished. Not a fan at all.
There's a lot to unpack here my dear. Exposed zips are a style choice within the deconstructed genre. The metal teeth zips are actually costly, especially in dresses (longer length), as are the construction techniques necessary to finish them well at the bottom of the zips. Now the garments they are typically used in are "cheap" sexy from a style perspective as compared to more elegant sexy. Elastic shirring is stitched with a more expensive elastic thread and is also a style choice that is not necessarily less expensive. It conveys romanticism with a higher comfort level and is only less costly in construction than a structured waistband or added belt. The button thing is more about the contrast in color than size, it is true that buttons that blend convey a more classic and elegant feel than high contrast. For me though the material of the button is most important. Shell, wood, metal, anything natural over plastic is better. Pull on jeans are meant to be worn like leggings which require a longer top to cover the butt. They are not pants, think of them like heavy tights. As for white stitching on jeans, an abundance of top stitching is more costly no matter the color of the thread. I agree on the faux leather and half lining. My advice, ditch the polyester/synthetics, focus on natural fiber fabrics and spend a bit for fit (alterations).
Agree with all of these except the shirring/stretch/elastic simply for practicality and comfort. Tailored pieces that fit exactly are perfect for formal events, but for every day our clothing should have enough wiggle room that we aren't afraid of eating too much or our weight fluctuating with salt intake. I've also noticed on a lot of pieces that are cheaper that the shoulder seam is too long and the arm hole is too large and shows undergarments. Also, as a person who makes their own clothes, not matching patterns isn't because it is difficult to match them, but because you waste more fabric, so it truly is the sign of a cheap item.
My mother, who was an excellent seamstress born in the 20’s, taught her daughters what clothing that fits should look like. Believe me what we have available even in designer price ranges can be sloppy and cheap looking. Or worse the too tight dresses
As someone whos very busty with a smaller body, the dresses with the stretchy section or tie, is really the only style of dresses i can wear that will look decent on me. I wish i could get dresses tailored to me so i didnt have to wear cheaper looking dresses, but unfortunately thats not really feasible right now
I'm going to go a step further and say that I love garments with tie waists and think it's a whole look, especially on us shorties! I think they are very soft and feminine on multiple garments...sweaters, coats, dresses, higher waisted shorts and pants, skirts...all of it. Give me all the tie waists! I find it very difficult to find real belts that I like. I hate the wide ones with the stretchy segments that stand out like a sore thumb. That is what looks cheap to me...especially in reptile prints...yuck. Give me sofly draping bows anytime.
@@melchen5448 I actually very much agree with you! I love the soft and flowy waist ties for sure, but some garments have stiff ones and those aren't very flattering. And I also agree with the belts, I hate those thick stretchy ones, they always crease and fold over on me. I did manage to find a couple simple belts on Amazon that I liked, very simple and slim, no stretchy fabric. I use them fairly often now
I don’t care for ties for myself because keeping the tir looking nice over time is just too fussy for me. However, I’ve seen some tie-tricks veideos that do make the tie lye more flat and look neater.
Agree with most... but pull on jeggings come with pockets and decorative buttons. They're stretchy and without zippers to accommodate people with fluctuating weight maybe. Not everyone looks like a model 😂
Oh, I LOOOVE the light-colored stitching on black/dark denim! Love the contrast. However, I agree 100% with the light wash with a yellowish hue, and I had never been able do point it out like you do in this video. It’s terrible! Great video, Shea, and I also love your jacket. Super cool!
That’s what I do what’s considered ankle length on a model will normally sit a petite person. I’m 5 ‘3”. But always take note of the inseam on cropped her ankle. I’d save so much money on alterations that way.
The zip thing is so true.. I also hate the white line on jeans and avoid buying that style.. but I do like the elastic band on the waist.. it cinches my waist and hides my tummy making me look slimmer 😁
I just started watching your videos and really like them. However, there is nothing wrong with a good pair of pull-on jeans! 😊 I stopped wearing jeans a million years ago because being short and overweight, they NEVER fit right. If you have followers that are looking to now get rid of their pull on jeans....I'll take them! LOL!! Thanks for the link to that jacket. I LOVE it!!! Keep making videos!
I like pull on jeans for the smooth tummy. Sometimes the fly on jeans is so lumpy when you wear a sweater out, it looks terrible with all the umps in front.
The elastic waist jeans are appreciated by women that have stomach issues and are uncomfortable with a denim waistband and button. They are also loved by those with arthritis.
I absolutely love my Amazon small travel bag. My husband made me get him one in black. They are very sturdy and don’t look cheap. Maybe because we didn’t get orange.
I think frayed hems became a thing because brands realized the could save labor costs by not finishing the hem! I also have noticed that even higher end brands have transitioned to S/ M/L sizing versus numbered sizing because rather than make 2 garments that REALLY fit, for example a 8 & 10….they make one garment and call it a medium! This is bad fashion because fit really does matter!
I am definitely skipping the frayed hem trend. It looks like you just cut them off and were too lazy to get them hemmed or hem them yourself or you just didn't care. I think they are tacky looking.
@@sl8605omg, not sure if i saw this comment as a sign. Been contemplating on buying a new pair i like but the undone hem part is something i’ve been dwelling on for quite sometime.
@@anythingunderthesun4301 They are definitely the trend. I see a lot of fashion influencers wearing them. If you like them, I say go for it. Maybe get them a little long. That way if you decide it's not for you, you can always hem them.😊
I'm gonna wear them regardless. I have spinal fusions at the lumbar level and a 10 inch scar. It's far less irritating to my scar to wear the stretchy waistbands. On Style has some great ones and I think they actually look really slimming but I also wouldn't be caught dead in a crop top (stretch marks from 3 pregnancies) so most of the time no one ever sees the top of my jeans.
I you sewed, you would know that with any given button design, the big size costs more than the same button, smaller size. With knitting, the button size needs to balance the weight of the yarn, visually, and chunkier wools make for a larger button hole so hence a larger button. But hey....whatever floats your boat.
I personally think the trend of mid ankle pants of any type look cheap. It reminds me of when kids grow out of their pants but the parents are trying to make it through the school year. Back in the day, we called them “high waters” & you didn’t want to be caught wearing those…😂. I remember the bedazzled jeans. They were especially bad on men.
Capris were pretty popular in the 00's, specially with middle aged woman. They're quite confortable when it's hot but wearing shorts isn't an option (work, school, church, etc.) and with the correct waist, even petite woman look good with them
@@HimeLowii I like capris for that reason. No one has attractive knees. It reminds me of Mary Tyler Moore when she was Laura Petrie on the Dick Van Dyke Show. Slim fit capris are sexy.
I love your channel because I sometimes find really great things on Amazon and appreciate how you take the time to link everything, but for the pull on jeans, I'm 60 and once menopause hits...you'll look back and think to yourself, oh yeah, so thats why. In my forties or even early fifties, I wouldn't give them a chance, but now... they are a life saver. Thanks for another great video. Im playing catch-up during the holidays.
But I hate when jeans don’t look long 😭 if my jeans are not pooling at the ankles I don’t want them! I hate this new cropped jeans trend that has attacked the world lately. I can’t stand when my entire ankle shows it just looks like the jeans don’t fit. So I guess we’re the complete opposite when it comes to that 😂 I mostly agreed with everything else tho. Especially those short/long dresses, they look crazy cheap to me just like those long/short tops I hate them lmao
@@sl8605 hideous is the word, indeed. Every video lately I see recommending jeans that are at the ankle and I just do not get the trend. They just make the feet and ankles look huge and I’m not sure who wants that lol there’s the boyfriend Jean now they wanna make the “little sister Jean” a trend 🤣
I think of Steve Urkel on Family Matters when I see people with short jeans 😂 I like wearing a bit of a heel so I want my bootcut jeans to almost touch the ground with my heels on, that means “too long”. If my skinny jeans are too long I’ll just cuff them. Oh well, to each their own!
Pull on jeans or pants are a go-to for seated body types. I'm a wheelchair user, and I wear both. Most time's people wear a top that covers the waist. If the cut of the jean is good and the length is good with the the right shoe or boot. When a person knows how to style: it can work.
One thing I don't like is when I buy a sweater off Amazon and forget to see what it is made of and it is acrylic or a cheap material and it shows after a few washes. It stretches out and will pill. Enjoyed the video
I agree that pull on jeans looks cheap, but sometimes they are to minimize detail in the stomach area and/or for "tummy taming" compression for those trying to shift focus away from this common trouble area
I am naturally thin but when I gain weight, it’s in the tummy area. Pull-on jeans are great for not adding bulk, ie. belt loops, zippers, & buttons, at the midsection. Admittedly, there are some really bad looking pull-on jeans out there but there are some great ones, too. Plus, if you are wearing a top that comes down over the waistband, you can’t tell they don’t have a zippered fly. The older I get the more comfort matters more than fashion.
Pull-on Jeans are great when you are traveling...won't set off buzzer going through TSA (unless you have a faux metal button sewn on) I don't think they look bad at all.
I think spending the time and money getting a garment tailored to fit you better is definitely worth the money. Tailoring can make an inexpensive garment look more expensive. Proper fit is an important part of looking polished and put together.
I 🧡LOVE LOVE LOVE my pull on jeans. They shrink a little belly pooch, are super comfortable, my shirts lay flat against my stomach (no button/fabric sticking forward), easy off/on, so flattering. Don't knock it til you tried it. I love the clean look and the functionality. I loathe wearing non-pull on jeans now because it's the same old problems that the pull on jeans solved.
I agreed with everything but the stretchy section/tie waist. For someone like me who deals with very painful bloating from I s, these things are a godsend!
I have to say, that a LOT of what she thinks looks cheap really isn't! It's a style, a trind, some of which goes away after a while. You don't have to wear it if you don't like it, but don't ruin it for others who like it!
For some people, a style might look cheap but others look great on them. I wear whatever I want. I prioritize comfort over style. It is not everyone's cup of tea and I dont care 😂😂
I love the bunched up at ankle look - I think it’s flattering to the leg. It might look more like a deliberate aspect of the style if one works to soften or slightly distress the bottom material.
I’ve been sharing your videos with my mother who grew up modeling and wearing high fashion, and she taught me what classy looks like, how to find a sale, and not to follow cheap trends. You are so spot on and you have a great eye! I’m especially impressed that you found so much of this stuff on Amazon, which makes you even more awesome. 😊 Also, Wal-Mart got in some high-waisted flare-leg jeans and they’re the most comfortable AND flattering pair I’ve ever had for my shape! I’m about to go get three more pairs like I did with my Iugas from Amazon, rofl!
Recently bought some pull-on jeans/jeggings from Lands End. They are very flattering, comfortable, and look a lot better than the majority of the slop I see out there.
I have the problem with pants always being too long. I’m 5’3. I do the same thing. I order the “short” or “cropped”length and that usually works. Sometimes it will actually be a little cropped and then I look taller! I don’t like “vegan” leather at all. I have found that it frequently peels. I also find that natural fabrics just look and feel better.
I agree with many of your comments. I know how to sew, so I buy clothes and modify them to be “me”. Unpolished buttons are the cheapest to make. If they are finished or a more expensive decorative jewelry-like button - Go for it. Otherwise color and size shouldn’t SCREAM “look at me”. As an older woman (61) who has lost 30 pounds in the last year - I like the pull on:- stretchy jean looking pants. I have replaced so much of my wardrobe in the last year. Taking it up myself only worked so long before I was 3 sizes smaller. Working around pockets, rivets and belt loops makes these stretchy pants attractive. I can sew the side seams and get another six months out of my pants. I hate ankle bunch - so at 5’2”, I but petite pants or ankle length in regular sizes. Capris need to die as do maxi skirts. I’m happy with a dress that hits just below the knee. All the flounces just add weight to your frame. That 1/2 slip is stupid. I had to keep full and 1/2 slips in my wardrobe when I started working in the 1070’s. It was unladylike for people to see your thighs through a thin fabric dress. My 30 year old daughters laughed at any slip - but we compromised on Dance Shorts - generally black spandex they wore for jazz or modern dance classes. They didn’t leave the house without flashing me a thigh. When thongs became the norm-under shorts became mandatory. Finally the gathered fabric is known as smocking. It’s more expensive to make and uses more fabric - so for the top of a sundress to be gathered is more expensive and often more flattering. Finally a gold toothed zipper with a decorative pull is a design choice. Least expensive are disappearing nylon/polyester zippers that go in a seam - and you have to look closely to see them. They come in lots of colors and are the least expensive to buy and a breeze to put in (with a little practice)
I love stretched floral dresses which are trending nowadays. It fits my body perfectly and i have like 7 of them and i will buy more. Ps:- it seriously doesn't look cheap at all wth🤦🏻♀️
B, I totally agree with you about seams not matching up for stripes or print. Shea, I’m with you on tie belts. I have a dress I just love that came with the little string belt loops and a tie belt. The dress was a check pattern of white and pale blue. I cut off the strings and replaced the belt with a wide white leather one. It really elevated the entire look of the dress
I agree with you about the lightwash jeans with yellow cast... but dang! Did you just put check-marks on those lightwash jeans with torn look and ugly rips? And you find those "not cheap" looking?

Will never get onboard with ripped jeans look. no matter how much someone paid for them, they look tacky and unpolished
So glad ripped jeans went out. It took years and years.
Number 1 cheap thing for me is plaids and stripes that don’t line up. My mother was a seamstress and said that was a sign of laziness and cheapness,
Thank you for mentioning that! My dad was a textile company rep and he taught me the same thing. Also, woven vs. printed patterns - woven (higher quality) has the pattern on both sides of the fabric and printed (cheaper/lower quality) has the pattern on top while underneath it's plain white. When my grandmother taught me to sew that was one of the first points, she made lineup your Plaids and stripes
Glad you mentioned this! So true!
I felt snobby about pull-on pants until I tried them. So comfy. So you wear pull-on leggings but not pull-on pants?
Pull on jeans are actually to accommodate different waist to hip ratios and are usually created with the idea that the wearer will not be showing the waist line. It will be hidden under clothes. It’s actually quite difficult for some body shapes to find jeans that fit.
Yes! Pull on jeans that are high rise are the only ones that fit my body.
I have given up on finding jeans that fit and are comfortable. I love my pull ons.
Pull on jeans work for certain sizes. You are young and slim so give us older, larger gals a break.
Just wait till you hit menopause and your waist disappears, you'll be looking for pull up pants!
Amen
Jeans that don't have a fly or button (pull-on) allow those that don't have a perfectly flat tummy to have a smoothing look in that area. I love it!
I think you can wear jeans that are pull on as long as you are not wearing short tops with them…who would know you don’t have regular jeans on?
I wear "pull on jeans" (jeggings) from time to time, and literally nothing and no one can stop me, LOL. They're comfy as hell.
Me too!!! I can eat!
So agree! I featured a wide leg pull on trouser recently and I absolutely love the forgiving waist. Especially with these high waisted styles!
Plus no zippers to get caught on and snag other things in the wash!
Lmao same girl. Unite!
Pull on jeans jeans are great as long as you are not showing the waist area…they can look exactly the same as regular jeans styled right
Trust me - affluent people love their pull-on jeans and jeggings. In fact, we nearly always opt for comfort (and I'm smaller than a size 0)
But what the vast majority of us do not wear are those jeans with the ripped knees
Oh yes the skinny girlies don’t understand 😅
Yes!!!
People like me with trouble with my hands, pull on jeans are a must. Metal buttons and zippers are impossible.
I agree! And I don't think that they look cheap.
It doesn’t look cheap. In fact, it helps accentuate and give the illusion of a more defined waist for smaller women who have a shorter torso, smaller hips, or slender build overall will get a more hourglass look. That elastic usually extends a little so it gives the appearance of a longer torso as well.
In other fashion videos skinny jeans and ripped jeans are out
its so much simpler to buy the pattern and make it yourself, you get high end patterns and it reflects itself, you buy a quality fabric n you wind up looking like youre a rich girl,,,,, but you made it yourself n saved approx 2 G......... plus it fits perfectly or take apart an old dress that fir perfectly n make your own pattern size etc
How does it make them not cheap looking?
I personally really like the look of big buttons on cardigans. In fact, I like them better than smaller ones. It's really just personal preference.
Agreed!
Most of what she has to say is her own personal preference.
@@kateyare4708Isn't THAT the truth.
I like big buttons, and I cannot lie...
FYI…. The silly loops on garments with tie belts are only there to minimize the chance of losing the belt from the time the item leaves the manufacturer to when it’s purchased. Just like labels on a mattress or pillows, you CAN remove them. Just clip the thread loops as close to the seam. It’s likely the garment will look better when you tie the belt where ‘your’ waist is.
i always replace a cheap belt with a REAL BELT ...perfect way to bump up a look!!
I didn't know that 😂 I've been embarrassing myself for years.
In the name of comfort I am here for the pull on jeans lol...but only if my top completely covers the elastic waistband!
Me too. Regular jeans chafe my skin & I'm slender
Sometimes comfort is much more important than an expensive look.
Thanks
Amen! Thank you!!
That's why she said if it works for you... Keep doing. 🙄
Why are you following what she says. It’s her opinion. Wear what you want and like. Be you
If I may, this is not in any way intended to sound "uppity" but rather to ease your mind a bit. I am a person of means who lives alongside affluent people, and we love our pull-on pants. Yes, I'm sure we may be paying more for thicker material or what have you, but honestly jeggings and other pull-on pants are perfectly fine. Part of living in luxury is just that - being comfortable. I never wear jeans
The key is to find nice pieces that fit properly. In a perfect world everyone would be able to get the best fabrics, but just do the best you can with what you have and make the most of it
This is a bit of a side rant, but one thing affluent people tend to not really engage in is jumping on trends all the time. For the most part, we just don't. We get some trendy accessories, but we also don't pay a lot of money for them because there's no point with trends
Ladies, keep doing you.
So I'll keep mine lol
~sweaters are just blankets u can wear in public without being judged. 💕
Pull on pants are too comfortable to give up! If your top is long enough to cover the waist, who really notices?
agreed! the gym people black leggings look so sleek and have pockets!
My #1 for looking cheap (and sloppy) : Distressed and/or ripped jeans. Don't care if you spend hundreds on them, the result is the same to me.
100%
Me too. I can't believe people spend any money on these.
Agree 👍🏼
How ripped jeans look depend on many factors, age, where you wear them and how ripped they are. It’s just a style, it’s not supposed to look expensive or not.
Agree!! Just why?
Pull-on jeans have saved my sanity. As a neurodivergent person, I have sensory issues with tight waistlines and especially with the button on jeans and trousers waists. I become unhinged with discomfort. Pull-on pants and jeans let me fit in and wear modern cuts while avoiding the extreme discomfort of a button waist.
I love my pull-on jeans! More comfortable than normal jeans and no extra bulk (buttons/zippers)
I love my pull on jeans too
Me 2!
100% 💖
I LOVE my pull on jeans and pants - I love how flat they are in the front and don't add bulk to my waist. I'll keep wearing them.
I use Madewell as an example, who do elastic-waist dresses in really classy designs.
i agree with you. Some of the most expensive dresses that I have are with a gathered elastic waist. I think it depends how it's done, of course.
She's not talking about comfort though, she's talking about what she thinks looks cheap.
I agree with a lot of these but I live in Michigan, so in the freezing winters I do sometimes wear the pull on jeans with a bulky sweater. They work kind of like jeggings but a little heavier weight, so warmer. I don't wear them with the waistband exposed
pull on pants…if you are wearing a long button up top or tunic sweater those pants look smooth and it looks nice. They don’t add bulk.
Yes, or the short mini-lining under a maxi-skirt, or dress.
So funny about the jeans that kind of puddle at the bottom…I think those are fine! The ones that look bad and cheap to me are the floods that sit at the ankle…especially if they flare out AND are short!!! To me, those are the ones that look cheap 😂
Those ankle ones that kick out are thee most unflattering type of pant or jean! Like, why did anyone make those?
I agree, essentially if you don’t have the long long legs of a model. That short flare cut makes people’s legs look short.
As a short person I'm waiting for the "puddling" to be in style. I'm done making my seamstress rich...lol
@nossu111 I am 5'11 and all leg. Any pants that are the correct length are a bonus and I'm grateful for.
( you might have heard of smocked dresses, etc. referenced in old timey childrens books)
My Mother wore this style in childhood dresses the 50's (though it dates much further back), but then it was more of a ridgid stitchery rather than the cheap elastic they incorporate on today's ready to wear..
I find it so funny to hear people say all clothes are made too long…almost every “regular” inseam are capri pants on me😂
Yes! I'm almost 5'10 and I'd rather have some bunching at the ankle than this weird mid ankle length. It reminds me of never being able to find jeans that were long enough while I was growing up.
This exactly!! I can’t stand the look of pants that are too short. Especially if it bootcut or flared when it’s sticking out at the back lol.
@@Jemjaba Yes! It ends up just looking like your pants shrunk in the wash. Also, if it’s cold; you get a draft up your pant leg. No thank you! I want my ankles warm too.
Yes, this! I'm 6 feet, and have the same issues.
I think pull on jeans work okay if you wear a top that covers waist and faux zip area....then it's just denim legs with a little more comfort.
If you’re short, look for “cropped” styles and they’ll fit well if short or petite sizing isn’t available.
I am a curved girl and I like the pull on jeans seem to fit me better than any other type.
Yessss!
Me too! I like to wear them with longer shirts
Me too. They are flattering and there's no button/part sticking out on the belly, very flattering.
Yes!
They look cheap and dirty to me.
I almost felt bad about loving my pull-on jeans until I read so many comments here praising them!
The exposed zippers drive me crazy! I had my eye on a gorgeous wool skirt from Theory. Not a cheap skirt, but it has an exposed zipper at the back. I just can't do it. Totally agree with your other points as well.
Theory suit are cut so lovely to me but their fabric choices are on the cheaper side. They rip very easily.
Giant arm holes are my biggest pet peeve and I feel like it's getting more and more prevalent in recent years
That sweater you tried on was hilarious!!! And you’re right yellowing on the jeans looks tacky. I agree with you 100% on everything that looks cheap.
Yes, I too hate yellow cast on light wash jeans! So glad someone else noticed 😊
Agreed!
The “pull up” pants are for people who don’t want the extra inch sticking out in their stomach silhouette. They don’t add a belt either. 🤷🏻♀️✌️
100% right, you said it well. I LOVE mine and they're so flattering and more comfortable. No one can tell because I don't wear short tops.
Super cool!
Contrasting stitching was popular in the late '60s/early '70s I think. Same with contrasting piping on jackets and blouses.
For my fellow shorties out there. Regular sized cropped jeans would work as full length on us and you wouldn't have to get them altered.
Thanks!
Thank you for sharing!!🥰
I totally agree about the dresses with a partial slip. I hate that.
I agree the stretchy part of a dress can be weird, but I love a tie waist!
I love white stitching on jeans! if they're one shade not the faded spots on jeans ones
I loved the dresses you showed to highlight the tie waists and elastic waists.
As a country girl....I own many pair of Miss Me boot cut jeans and love them. To each their own!
Agree wholeheartedly : )
I like pull on jeans for the smooth tummy. Sometimes the fly on jeans is so lumpy when you wear a sweater out, it looks terrible with all the umps in front.
My daughter has Autism, and other developmental delays and pull-on jeans have been a lifesaver for her.
I agree! I feel like a hobo
That way if you decide it's not for you, you can always hem them.😊
@@sl8605 i agree. If i decide that it’s not for me, i can return it within 30 days upon purchase anyway.
Sorry, but you are totally wrong about pull on jeans. They are much sleeker looking than regular jeans and more comfortable.
Yes! Not all women fit the zipper style waist for weight or health issues! Pull on jeans are always a must for those that love them. ❤
Same! I have scars on my abdomen from a kidney donation so I grant myself the right to wear pull on jeans, fashionable or not!
Exactly! Under some tops, the zipper/button creates an unattractive lump.
@@mariondn2301What a wonderful gift you gave! Wear whatever you want…you are a hero!
Concerning the smocked, elastic waists and tie belts. Wear a good belt with the dress and the look is elevated.
We called those pants that were too short “floods.” Lol
Yes!!!
@@CheriJ11yuo! Kids used to scream at other kids wearing them, "Hey, you waiting for a flood?" Oh, the what a time, the 80's!
Especially cropped flares imo are hideous!
@@SocialExperiment232 I think the fashion world have run out of ideas.
When you are 80, pull on pants rock!
I agree about the big, brown buttons on cardigans.
I totally agree with the exposed zipper and the built-in slip that doesn't go as long as the dress!!
One thing I don't like is when I buy a sweater off Amazon and forget to see what it is made of and it is acrylic or a cheap material and it shows after a few washes. It stretches out and will pill. Enjoyed the video
I agree that pull on jeans looks cheap, but sometimes they are to minimize detail in the stomach area and/or for "tummy taming" compression for those trying to shift focus away from this common trouble area
also if you are in your 60s and overweight, pull on "cheap" jeans are awesome
I am naturally thin but when I gain weight, it’s in the tummy area. Pull-on jeans are great for not adding bulk, ie. belt loops, zippers, & buttons, at the midsection. Admittedly, there are some really bad looking pull-on jeans out there but there are some great ones, too. Plus, if you are wearing a top that comes down over the waistband, you can’t tell they don’t have a zippered fly. The older I get the more comfort matters more than fashion.
I was just looking at Spanx pull on jeans today, thinking those are brilliant! 😂
I agree with all these. Ruching is the elastic fabric, which I like. I normally take the fabric belt off dresses and use a regular belt.
You make me smile everytime i watch one of your video's, you just say exactly what i was thinking.
You rock Shea
Pull-on Jeans are great when you are traveling...won't set off buzzer going through TSA (unless you have a faux metal button sewn on) I don't think they look bad at all.
I think spending the time and money getting a garment tailored to fit you better is definitely worth the money. Tailoring can make an inexpensive garment look more expensive. Proper fit is an important part of looking polished and put together.
I live in skinny/straight jeans, went to short leg a few years ago, in the warmer weather I turn them up.
Good fitting pull on jeans can look great
I 🧡LOVE LOVE LOVE my pull on jeans.
"TO EACH HIS OWN" SHEA gives opinions not judgments. 😂
Amei todas as bolsas lindas e de muito bom gosto.Parabens HIDUPZ
The built in short slip! It has driven me nuts for years! Since the first time I saw them. I never understood the trend.
I agreed with everything but the stretchy section/tie waist. For someone like me who deals with very painful bloating from I s, these things are a godsend!
Harley Davidson sells the jeans with the white stitching, Ugg!
Most of what she has to say is her own personal preference. Take it with a grain of salt.
The truth is that these are just her own opinion. I disagree with almost everything but I love to watch her videos!!
I agree with all of these, especially cardigans with big buttons that don’t match the sweater, white threaded jeans (jeez), and yellow toned jeans!
Also, Wal-Mart got in some high-waisted flare-leg jeans and they’re the most comfortable AND flattering pair I’ve ever had for my shape! I’m about to go get three more pairs like I did with my Iugas from Amazon, rofl!
Don't be hating on my pull-on pants 🤣
Recently bought some pull-on jeans/jeggings from Lands End. They are very flattering, comfortable, and look a lot better than the majority of the slop I see out there.
I’m very short so I buy the ankle jeans which usually help avoid hemming!
I’m a shorty (4’11). I have learned that if you look for the jeans that say “crop jeans” are perfect and they don’t bunch up at the bottom.
I try to buy petite lengths
I love how truthful you are!
Agree with most of these! You saved me from buying a skirt with a zipper on it today. Thanks Shea!
Loved this and agreed with almost all your tips here!
Love you Shea you give the best tips and advice ❤❤
B, I totally agree with you about seams not matching up for stripes or print. Shea, I’m with you on tie belts. I have a dress I just love that came with the little string belt loops and a tie belt. The dress was a check pattern of white and pale blue. I cut off the strings and replaced the belt with a wide white leather one. It really elevated the entire look of the dress
I agree with you about the lightwash jeans with yellow cast... but dang! Did you just put check-marks on those lightwash jeans with torn look and ugly rips? And you find those "not cheap" looking?
😅I actually think pull on- jeans can look really good! ♡
