Is the blue sweater from Thred Up too?
Agree. I also believe that neutrals are forever classy and flattering. Ankle boots have been and will be trendy for decades. I’m not sure they’re unflattering. I would argue they are stylish and timeless.
I have to disagree with you on one point, Shea. If your wearing black pants, you should wear black shoes. You will look so much taller and slimmer. If you are really TALL and slim, you can pull off the sandwiching. I love your advice on everything else. I am an avid follower of yours and I love your videos💖💝❣
This is literally what they all told us all last year. Try to match your pants to your shoes if you can because it''s more long and lean. Hi contrast between pants and shoes were going to make us look stumpy...
Shea I love the black long coat you wore on top of the dress towards the end…where is it from? ❤
Agree
YES thats exactly what i wanted to say match the color with ur lower half not top
There are just trend
The “sandwich” method doesn’t work well for us “shorties”. if I wore a different color (or dark) shoe with light jeans or pants the eye is immediately drawn to my
feet. I usually wear a shoe same color of pants or neutral color. Tall thin girls look good in anything. ❤
It doesn't work well for anyone and is not good style.
Does not work at all.
Yeah not a good look
at 5 4, I have to disagree. The most slimming look on me is a black top, block yoga pants ( the shape matters), black shoes, and a serious pop of color in a blazer, sweater, or pashmina (high quality). As far as tucking in, it works when you are slim, but it is a bigger challenge with postmenopause20 lb. I can do the same with monochrome navy and dark gray
Agree!
The first outfit was perfect the way it was.
In fact, it was sandwiched twice: dark hair with dark boots and light coat with light hat. It looked nice.
It’s funny that those big silver belt buckles are back in style. Those were what the 80/90’s moms wore. They remind me of Brighton jewelry
I thought the same thing about the tall boots! So classic but they were considered “dated” for years
What's wrong with the gold signature belt buckles? When you pay good money for nice belts to suddenly be labeled "dated" is disheartening to say the very least! I guess I'll continue to be dated and out bcz I cannot afford to buy the latest silver belt bucks
The sandwich method is a nice idea but shouldn’t be the only rule….sometimes having your shoes the same color as your pants/bottoms looks better and definitely elongates your bottom half. I go to that more often.
Sandwiching is an amateur idea that very rarely looks good.
Agreed
Agree
I don't think it's the only rule, just a tool to keep in your toolbox. 😊
Thank you!!!!! I’ve always thought booties with dresses was sooo unflattering.
Me too
You're right!!!
Thank you for encouraging second hand clothes! So much better for the environment than most Amazon clothing
That's why I mostly buy from the thrift stores. Why put your hard-earned money in new clothes that you wont like or that will make you feel embarrassed to wear in a few months?
100%. I get complimented regularly on my look. I find "current trends" comical these days. People throwing away their money, chasing trends instead of investing in classic looks.
Classic looks for the win! Trends are for people with no originality or personality!
100% I _only_ thrift unless I've had a specific item in mind that I've wanted for more than 12 months I couldn't find in any thrift store across that time.
There's lots of those hats around and even in Nordstrom
Stuff in style now, I wore in the 90s in High School. They always come back, and I gave most of my 90s clothes away to thrift stores. Except for some graphic tees and some loose dressy tops. I should have kept my flare jeans.
I actually really love the very first outfit even though its not sandwiched! But you look cute in everything😊
Thank you so much!!! I just think it could have been tweaked to be a little better!🩶
@@SheaWhitneyI think dark on top and light on bottom is iffy, but dark on top and dark on bottom looks ok. I liked your outfit. ❤
Yes, she does. She always looks amazing. I love her style
It was totally sandwiched, twice even: dark hair with dark boots and light coat with light hat. It looked nice in an understated way. Sometimes jewelry can make the difference.
Great video!! This is the Shea I’m here for! Don’t need any more Amazon junk need creative ways to use what I have. Thanks for this one!
Felt hats with larger rims, and updated outfits are so beautiful and effortless. It’s comes down to how you style it
I’d have to agree with that. I think the hats are very chic and quite timeless but that’s just me.
The outer coat advice is great. I see so many young women at lovely events in casual coats over an elegant dress or outfit. Get a simple dress coat, a cape or shawl. It immediately ups your look.❤
Learning what tones look best on the individual is game-changing
Lots of people think the opposite about the sandwich method - definitely subjective.
Thankyou for going right into outfits ,simultaneously talking with us, really nice!
Girl! Those expensive black boots look fantastic on you! Wear them! ❤️😉
Maybe a slightly different pair of jeans with those boots and they would work perfectly!
Agree!
Great advice EXCEPT the crossover jean look. It makes people look like 6 year olds that have their pants on wrong. It’s awful. So unflattering.
I never do the sandwich method! Maybe it works on tall slender figures, but on a short, curvy gal it’s a no way!! So much better to do a long continuous line of color than breaking it up. You should prob mention that to viewers so they can make their own decisions about what’s a “mistake” or not.
you cant make that decision yourself? yall need a disclaimer? that said, I dont take what skinny tall women have to say as gospel personally
Sandwiching does NOT work.
Yay! A video that helps us style WHAT WE HAVE rather than urging consumerism! I recently pulled out every piece of clothing that I own (I usually only have one season at a time) and was astonished at the amount of clothing I have. I immediately started culling items. Then I took BAGS of clothing to a charity.
Unfortunately, they were not currently accepting clothes because THEY HAD TOO MUCH. There is too much fast fashion in the U.S. We don’t NEED every new trend that comes out. It just adds to a glut of clothing. From now on, only classic pieces for me with a few trendy accessories to give me an up-to-date look. I am going to wear the classic pieces until they actually wear out.
Thank you for saying that about ankle booties with skirts. Never thought it was flattering on anyone. Great tips! 😊🇨🇦👍🏻
The sandwich method and the loose/tight together--I love it!
I’ve seen a lot of people talking about the sandwich method but I have to disagree, I think it looks too contrived like having a matchy matchy furniture set 🤷♀️ love the video as usual, thanks Shea! And ADORE thredup!
A great way to help the environment and always look good is to stop buying trendy clothes!! Classic is always in style and never looks dated.
Yes! I like to buy clothes that I can wear for years and have very small amount of clothing items. I never follow trends and I love it. I see so many people having such an excessive amount of clothes. Noone needs 20-30 pairs of leggings 🥴
Color, does look better on you than just natural Color.
Thank you for another great video. May you have a Blessed day.
The picture of cute dress and shoes you said did you no favors was actually super cute.
This HIDUPZ tote is beautifully colored, very sturdy and the perfect size. Not too small, not too big.
Thrifting is what I have always done. The only thing I pay full price for is perfume. Full price are nasty words! 😂
I agree I dont follow trends I have my own unique style and thrifting allows me to buy high end fashion clothes I wouldnt be abe to afford other wise. Perfume and shoes and winter coats are new items I buy to look fresh and trendy that makes me stand out .
The pink top you're wearing looks sooo good on u!
Yeesss !! Miss these types of videos! Thank you @Shea
Yay!! So glad you enjoy!!
Shea! I watched some of your older videos, and you look more beautiful and younger now than ever! Can you do a video about YOUR beauty secrets? Do you use self tanner? Do you have hair extensions? What are you doing that you look better now than 5 years ago?
Possibly better lighting. That makes a world of difference.
I love ThredUP. Just made some great purchases on designer items. Tons of outstanding items. Customer service is wonderful.
You look pretty in everything!
Wearing a different Color shoe or boot than your bottoms doesn’t do short girls any favours, it cuts them off making their legs appear shorter, same Color as your bottom is continuing the line helping you look longer!
Totally agree and this is a great hack!
I think boots will look much better with shorter jeans and they also have to be a little more narrow on the ankle. Those are sick 🤩
Hi Shea, I really loved those boots on you, if I was to choose, I would choose your look
Exactly 👍, Everyone needs Color, Texture, Shine ✨. Thank you 🙏 for this amazing video.❤❤❤❤😊
Ty Shea, this is so very helpful. You always look so good, so pretty. Very stylish!
I love that you're showcasing thredup! In my perspective ( and maybe others) I see you (at least personally or your fashion) wearing "higher cost" pieces ( Zara, ect,) and it's nice to see you showing "hey look! Instead of paying full price for brand new ... thrift it for a fraction of the price !"
All a matter of fashion and keeping up with it!
I love Threadup! I turned a nurse on to it yesterday at a doctors appointment after she complimented my jeans which were Zara!
Love the jeans button tip, you’re a life saver!!!
That pink looks gorgeous on you
Aw thank you Lanna!!!❤️
When you first showed those boots i loved them!!! I looked for something similar that would fit my style, i ended up buying the DOLCE VITA
Leather Volli booties and i have worn them SO much and get so many compliments! I know they aren't exact, but it is the shoe length i was looking for to peek out from my jeans and trousers. I highly recommend. They are also comfortable!
Have you ever done a color analysis? I think you're a winter because that pink looks phenomenal on you.
Loved your video!
Every time I see your videos i think about how stunning you’d look in a lob! It would look so good on you
The right colors for your skin tone/undertone can make your face glow and give you a little jolt of joy every time you catch a glimpse of what you are wearing 😊 You look stunning no matter what you wear, Shea, but vibrant colors take your look to the next level because they match your vibrant energy! 💗
I would love an updated hair video of all the products you use! ❤️
You make an interesting point on the black boots. I think they look pretty amazing on you, Shea, and I hope you change your mind about them. But I get it, I'm totally guilty of seeing how something looks on someone else, buying it, and expecting it to look the same on me. And even if it does look great on me, it's not hitting the same note as the person I saw it on, so it's disappointing.
The sandwich method is an outdated method, and looks so wrong, and tacky. I think Gucci may have a bit more of an edge on style, so wear those Gucci belts ladies as they are definitely a classic belt, that will never be outdated. Bright coloured, cheap crop tops, no comment. Fall winter hats are a classic, and keep your head warm, so again, always in style, and look so darn cute. I constantly get compliments on my cute hats! Those expensive, black boots looked wrong because your jeans were the wrong length and style for those boots. Most women over a certain age need to wave good bye to the belly showing crop tops or wear very high waisted jeans. If you happen to sport a softer, rounded belly, you can wear longer tops, but just proportion your outfit wisely.
I agree. About sandwich. Wear nice shoes that's it
Threadup needs to give EVERYONE a discount not just first time buyers
I've tried ThredUp so many times and I'd say 50% of the things I've received are damaged. Holes, severe wear, etc. Their quality control is horrible.
I have those belts for tucking shirts and love them. I wear them as regular belts too because they are basic and super flat with stretch. Thanks for the video. I need to look at thred up
I always enjoy watching your videos. I always gain new knowledge. I love the light blue tight fitting dress that you baught from thread up. It is very pretty. Im definitely going to check them out. Thanks.
I was laughing throughout this video for a lot of reasons, but I always appreciate your recommendations.
The only outfit that wasn't flattering on you even with the belt trick was the blue sweater and blue jeans. Nope! Then those boots that you thought about for weeks were ugly. They look like man boots. The influencer looked like she had man feet. They actually looked better on you. 😂😂
I like your look in those pointy boots. I’d never wear something like this myself because of my 9 feet size but they look beautiful and stylish on you.
I have the same stretch belt in all neutral colors and love them. I also have the Jean buttons and the black belt you showed, I’ve had for probably 10 years and haven’t worn it, but will be wearing it since it’s back in style. I love the tip on blousing the sweater with the stretchy belt.
You just read my mind, Shea! Just yesterday I was complaining (in a good way) because my jeans do not fit anymore. I've lost 25lbs since November and still have a bit more to go so I'm not ready to invest in new jeans just yet. I'm buying those jean buttons now and the belt!
Congrats!!
@@melodybucker3803 thank you 🥰
The sandwich rule doesn't always work and the first outfit was already perfect
If you have short, thick legs, like I do, it’s very difficult (almost impossible) to find tall boots to fit and look good on our legs. Ankle boots are my only option. I very rarely wear dresses, but I wouldn’t wear ankle boots if I did wear a dress.
I agree with the neutrals. I’ve always wore color before and when everyone started wearing neutrals (me included) I’ve noticed that on pictures it washed me out. When I see pictures with brigher colors, compliment my dark hair and eye color. I need to revamp my neutral closet 😅
It's very individual. It's good to spend some time learning what "season" you are. I'm a soft summer, so I have literally the most boring color palette available. But bright colors look terrible on me. So I need to keep to low-sarurated, low-contrast colors.
I personally don’t care for the sandwich method but to each is own.
Also always hated the Gucci belt.
Ankle booties were hideous when they were still in style. You have a splendid model figure, Shea, and would rock a potato sack, but cool colors are most flattering for you, like blues, violet, white, etc.
The leggings with a short top out on the street that should go out of style. There are children around that shouldn’t see some body parts so young. A little modesty is nice, people can look fashionable without having to show what others don’t want to see 😊
I love those hats and will still wear them
For the sandwiching section, I honestly thought the outfit looked better with the black top! 😮
You always have such good luck when ordering ThredUp. Everything looks great
Agree, my purchases are hit & miss.
YEAH!! I love these fashion videos. Have you ever worn any ruffles or tunics with ruffles? I’m into that gathered look these days. What about bows? Are they in or out? I know I won’t buy thrifting online unless they give a fabric content label. I love my cotton or linen.
As someone with a pronounced tummy (look like I'm a good 6 months pregnant. I'm not) . ..that French tuck is a 100% no-go. It just points right at my tummy -- I would love a video about how to dress if you have a large and I do mean LARGE tummy. Not a teensy-tiny pooch. Maybe you could get a faux small pregnancy belly and wear that for the video?
You could surely have a look at some other influencer's videos with more similar body type for something like that?
Sure. And I could ask this person to do one as well. All she can do is say "no." Never hurts to ask and I'm pretty certain a lot of American women are not size 4 or 6.....the average American woman is a 14. So maybe she'd want to speak to us. Or not. Up to her of course! @@jaclynmackenzie4680
Thousands of dollars for the boots? Seriously??? They look like they belong to the "Wicked Witch of the West".
Those jeans buttons and extenders sound great. They are like wheels on luggage: I wonder why no one came up with those ages ago.
I was very intrigued by them as well, never seen them before.
I've tried Thred Up several times and at least 50% of the stuff I've received was damaged with holes, severe pilling, smells, etc. Their quality control is horrible.
I agree
As someone who has lived through the 80s, 90s, 00s and 10s, I think you'll find you'll be embarrassed by some of things you're saying look good here. Lots of these looks, like those crop tops you have were trendy in the 90s and, were absolutely not in 'style' in the 00s. And those hats, if that is your style, they are classic and will always look good. Anyone making fun of them will likely be making fun of whatever they are wearing right now. Making fun of trends just means you haven't found your style and what works for you. Which is fine, we all make mistakes as we grow into ourselves.Whatever makes you feel fabulous while you're wearing it, is in style for you at that particular time.
I love my hats. Who wants to be like everyone else?
Regardless of any other fashion faux-pas... The absolute worst mistake, is choosing the wrong (or visible), underwear.
I always like the all black outfits with white tennis shoes
I agree with you about combination of dress and ski jacket. I live in Sweden and it is so common here , but I do not like it. My lgranma used to say every lady has to have a black coat and a chic black dress.
You look so snatched in that blue dress from ThredUp 🥰
What I’m primarily seeing is the accentuation of one primary physical feature. Bust or butt, not both; arms or legs, not both.
I will live and die by my ‘fall’ hats! Haha
I live in utah too which I swear is the capital for them.
The first outfit looks great
The ankle boots look nice together with the skirt or a dress
The boots look amazing on you (the last one)
Neutrals always look good
5:46 that photo looks like a page from a magazine!! Super cute and WAY ahead of fashion in 2016
7:35 I think the better method would be to use the belt directly on your skin and then tuck the sweater underneath it, so you have only 2 layers of sweater and one of belt rather than 3 layers of sweater plus the belt.
Hope you realize how beautiful you are Shea 💖 And yesss to color! I think everyone should try to figure out their color season. Not sure if you've looked into it but definitely think you are a Winter. Bright cool tones are fabbb on you!
Another mistake with evening wear is wearing a day handbag. I've seen this way too often.
Can you share the black coat you showed in the video? So adorable! Thanks.
You are an absolute DOLL!! Really appreciate your videos and content! Thank you! 🙏🏼
I bought those jean buttons to fix the size of my diaper butt jeans. I got the pro-tip from this video. It is incredible. I gave two of them to my son with a 30" waist. They are great !
I bought myself the Wilford Cacoon coat, love it and a good investment piece.
Love your honesty Shea xx
Yes ankle boots are so bad. Love the elastic belt idea. I like that you show your mistakes and also that you got really great stuff for not a ton of money. Jean pubbons are really a great idea. who knew?
I love your sandwich method 😊
Why??
I’m currently loving thred up!
Yay!!!!
Shea, you look Great!
Wear the boots!!!! ❤
Awe thank you Christine!!!!
Love your videos! I know I'm going to learn something from your videos.
I agree about ankle boots. They often ankles look thick when worn with dresses.
Question Shea: What length of coat should you wear with a long dress?
I’m not Shea but I have found that with a very long dress I personally look better with either an equally long coat or a short (waist to above the hip length) coat. I don’t look good in a knee length coat over an ankle length dress, for example. Hope this helps!
The green blouse looks very pretty.
Thank you for saying that at 6:29 about tucking in sweaters or in my case ANYTHING!!! I don't even THINK about it. No.1 it's a dumb look. No. 2 it accentuates my biggest problem, my middle.
Tall boots with a skirt always look like desperation to keep warm without dressing correctly.
"Sandwiching" looks SO bad when they try it with FLUORESCENT shoes and tops! Shoes SHOULD be worn with coordinating pants period.
Black beanie would be so cute for the first photo
The boots look cool, its the pants length that created the edge
I agree, the jeans Shea was wearing are just that little bit longer than the other influencer. With a shorter pair of jeans or trousers that show off the ankle, or folding the jeans just slightly under if she wants to keep the length of the ones she has, they would give the same look. 👍
