A tow hitch and trailer wiring let you fit your vehicle with a trailer, bike rack, or cargo carrier, but it’s required by law to have wiring installed (and active) before pulling a trailer. Refer to the towing weight capacity listed by your vehicle’s manufacturer before using your receiver hitch.

Important to note: 2019-20 Hybrid models have the battery in the rear passenger side under and to the right of the cargo floor. Don't waste your time routing the cable under all of the underbody covers like I did. Its even easier than the non-hybrids.
Thanks for this great tip! Did you end up just running it exposed on the underside of the car? Or did you find a different path? THnx
If you have the non-hybrid, I would recommend to tuck it in like the video shows and use plenty of zip ties. This requires routing power cable under the car. It would be too time consuming to remove all of the underbody panels.
If you have a hybrid, remove the plastic trunk lip and pop out the rear portions of the side panels the connections to the rear lights are inside both panels and the battery terminal in on the bottom right of the trunk. Secure the bottom of the converter module so it doesn't rattle with some 2-sided tape. There is no need to route the power cable as everything is right the in the trunk compartment.
J Ab have the hybrid, but didn't realize I could input the wiring harness into the battery terminal in the rear! Thanks so much for the heads up!!
is this the same for 2020 models
@@emmadimanlig4247 just did it on my 2020, yes exactly the same
Nailed it! This is exactly the info I need to do the wife's new Jeep. THANKS!!!!
Glad it was helpful!
I am about to install this very harness and saw a number of videos on this topic. This one is the BEST. The only thing missing is the mounting of the converter box on the frame of the vehicle. Adding this little piece would increase the usefulness of this video even more. Thank you
Great Video, Step by step, safety and clean wire install. Thanks for the follow-up on the Hybrid battery location.
Excellent how to video, couldn't of did my wiring without your instructions !
This was great, thank you for these videos
Very helpful.
Dobra robota! :)
For my 2019 Rav4 Hybrid XSE, I recently installed a Tekonsha 118801. My Rav4 has a subwoofer on the left side. The wire for the left turn signal is short by about 12 inches because of the subwoofer housing filled the space. Though it was easier to route the power wire because the hybrid's 12vdc battery is just at the rear cargo right side.
Thank you for making this video!
Very good video. Thanks
Glad you liked it!
Great job well done, do you have any dimensions for this 2019 Toyota Rav4 hitch? Regards
How about the parking sensors, the one wire that is supose to connect so the parking sensors dont go crazy when you have a trailer connected to the car?
Great Vid. I'm going go "go ahead" and get a wiring harness as soon as my R4P shows up. The Rav4H and RAV4 Prime have the 12v battery in a different location, tho.
Hot tip. 'Go ahead' and test it before you go ahead and put the interior panels back in place. If it doesn't work, you're gonna go ahead and kick yourself.

@@erichtisnado1536 they are professionals not amateurs like you...
@@DUNGSTA Not professionals on screen, apparently.
So do I just leave the original wire clip I replaced with the new wire harness unplugged? Or are you gonna tell us to plug it into the other socket? What about wiring it to the battery? This video leaves out like, the most important stuff
When you hooked up the power wire to the positive of the battery, did you remove the ground first? And did you have to reprogram anything after you hooked up the power wire?
No you do not have to remove the ground! Nothing will need to be reprogrammed as well! Hope this helps.
Does having the LE hybrid model change the installation or kit required at all?
This kit will fit the 2019 Hybrid model. The only change you may see is the battery location to hook up the power wire. It may be in the trunk instead of the engine compartment.
@@aaronlimon4803 Hybrids have it in the cargo area in the passenger side. When you hook up the passenger side lights look down and you'll see it.
When the tail light connector was disconnected you didn’t show that reconnecting to the trailer harness wiring. I’m sure that just doesn’t get left disconnected!
Good catch Barry, thank you! For all those watching, please reconnect the taillight harness to the opposite end of the T-Connector.
Nice how about installing a 7 pin harness with the 4 pub also what is the tow weight of that hitch
I have a rav4 adventure that has a 3500 lbs towing weight
@@thomasmorris610 if you're installing a 2" hitch receiver, it should be able to handle more than what the RAV4 can handle.
What’s the part number for the power wire? Brand?
PWRWIRE1 it is a u-haul exclusive part
@@cgomez6742 I cannot find this on the Uhaul website.
@@jeffreywilliamson4863 Currently, we do not have it available online, but most stores carry it in store. If you would like too, you can email me at Cristina_gomez@uhaul.com and I can help you find the closest location that has it in stock!
@@cgomez6742 I also am looking for the PWRWIRE1, is there an alternative? Thanks

Gotta hate the choice they made to tell and not show. "It'll fall right through these panels here", cool… I guess I'll keep looking
We try to get every shot we can but it can be difficult working in an engine and underneath the car with a camera. However, the is no singular way to run the wire. It can have several paths through the engine bay as long as you avoid the wire contacting any hot or moving parts. As we call out in the video, we prefer to run it along the break lines of the vehicle which can be seen from the engine bay, giving you a smooth path to underneath the car.
