    Use split loom to protect the wire when you route it from the left to right behind the metal shield, otherwise the insulation will find a way to rub some metal and both cause your trailer lights to malfunction, but also take out your brake lights or turn signals.

      That is a hot wire could cause a fire.

    He forgot to mention using the double-stick tape to secure the converter box somewhere under driver side rear panel.

      @@trailerhitches And the need to also reattach the negative battery terminal at the end, though he may not have undone it in the beginning. Also, where he placed the ground wire attachment under the horizontal panel is too far away from where the converter box is likely to be attached by the double stick tape--onto the inside of the driver's side of the body. An attachment point on the left vertical side, at least half way up, will allow some slack in the wire. See the etrailer video for the placement.

    For my 2019 Rav4 Hybrid XSE, I recently installed a Tekonsha 118801. My Rav4 has a subwoofer on the left side. The wire for the left turn signal is short by about 12 inches because of the subwoofer housing filled the space. Though it was easier to route the power wire because the hybrid's 12vdc battery is just at the rear cargo right side.

    1) Is the grounding wire going to corrode the body as it is 2 different metals?
    2) will Toyota void the warranty?

    Great job explaining this. If you don't mind explaining, if I have a hybrid, how would I route the black wire to the battery? I am not sure how that works. Also do you have a video showing the trailer hitch installation as well? What part number hitch did you put on this Rav4? I have the Rav4 Hybrid 2021 AWD LE. Can i use the same electric package as you used as well as the hitch if you don't mind telling me what you installed here? Thank you again for showing us this.

      Great questions!
      1. Here is our video for the hitch installation using part number Curt 13416. ruclips.net/video/F_JdszL1UQ8/видео.html
      2. The wiring part number we used in this video is Curt 56434. Both the wiring and hitch is compatible on your vehicle.
      3. The battery is located in the rear trunk of the hybrid (Prime) on the passenger side under the trunk mats. This allows a much easier time to route the black power wire to the battery without going outside of the vehicle. The wires can be ran and stored under the mats. Make sure to tie off any excess wire slack with zip ties that are provided with the wiring kit.

    If you are pulling or have something behind the rear sensors - is there a way to bypass the rear sensors to not activate other than turning off the rear sensors?

    • @trailerhitches
      @trailerhitches  3 месяца назад

      You will need to deactivate the sensors when something is behind you! Most vehicles make this a simple process for you to do thru the dashboard menu or buttons on the console. The vehicle often turns them back on automatically for safety when the vehicle is started. Just Turn them off again before you begin your journey!

    Can I ask why the power converter and wiring up to the battery are needed? I thought once you plugged into the car's tail light wiring your trailer lights would do what your car lights do.

    • @trailerhitches
      @trailerhitches  Год назад +1

      Most cars, especially with LED taillights, do not have enough power to activate the converter box as well as the lights themselves. 12V power is required to work properly.

    in the link above, for rav4 prime XSE 2022, i only found
    4 Flat Multi Function Power Converter, Plug Type: 4 Flat
    Part number: CMF59236, Manufacturer Part Number: 59236
    is the installation for that similar to this video? (diff part number and slightly diff car model)
    thanks!

    • @trailerhitches
      @trailerhitches  Год назад

      The 59263 is a universal hardwire kit. The installation is much more difficult. Here is our video for it. ruclips.net/video/OLDey4rUxw0/видео.html
      According to the manufacturer, Tekonsha 118801 will also fit your vehicle. You can find a location that carries it here. www.uhaul.com/Trailer-Hitches/

      @@trailerhitches Why not make + red? Black is for ground in automotive electrical wiring. It’s not a big deal until you have to troubleshoot an issue. When I see a black wire going to the positive side of the battery it shows me someone 1/2 assed the install. I just ordered this kit and had to also order a spool of 12ga red wire.

    What's wrong with you that is a hot wire needs a protective shield. All the other wires have a protective shields on them. I would not want you doing my car!!

    • @trailerhitches
      @trailerhitches  Год назад +1

      If you route it correctly, it does not need a shield. The wire is durable and there are many channels in and under the car that can protect the wire. A shield or sleeve wont hurt but it is an unnecessary step.
