I agree, this album is sadly underrated. There's many amazing songs: this one, Beneath the Hollow, Place of Many Deaths, Enshrined by Grace...I also like to play God of Our Own Divinity, another great song 🔥
I agree, I agree, I AGREE. I see too many “my top 5, 10 death metal albums”… half the time not even a mention of Morbid Angel, or ever this album or fucking Gateways… metal heads, wake the fuck up, Morbid Angel is such a important band… Trey is an important man. And the dude in the video killed that fucking solo, great cover.
@@apmoto3889 That's absolutely right, Morbid Angel should be in every top 5, even top 3 death metal bands. They have created something unique and incomparable, and Trey is one of the most creative modern guitarists. People can like it or dislike it, his creativity can't be questioned.
@@MichalBacaBastrzyk Yeah he certainly is the most creative and innovative guitarist of modern times. I don't listen to much death metal any more nowadays, but I regularly get back to Morbid Angel and it's always a special experience.
Awesome Patrik, i remember trying to play along to this track and album back in the day... Very weird and different, it challenged what you think makes the music 'heavy'
Thank you for sharing this amazing cover! This song is the endless source of energy. Btw, I still have my Heretic CD which I bought 20 years ago, in Oct 2003.
@@patrikbnvn2847 thank you for being such a devoted fan of Morbid Angel, all your cover works are truly unique. Btw, are you subscribed to Trey's YT channel?)
@@РакРва Thanks to you for your words. Yes, I've been such a huge Morbid Angel and Trey fan for so many years. I don't listen to much death-metal anymore, but listening to Morbid Angel is something unique and different. Yes I've subscribed to Trey's channel.
This one always gets me! I can cover nearly all of Heretic, but the main riff at the start with all its' nuance with the low E's single note runs will always have me hitting a sour note or two, even years later after learning the song. 🤣
Haha yeah what I find hard with a lof of Trey's riffs is that they must be played like if it was something played backwards and thus the playing is counter-intuitive, and this is the case with this song. But don't give up playing it!
Another great cover old friend! I hsve bern listening to Heretic a lot lately. I hated the production initially but it really grew on me rather quickly.
Patrik, you've got the most/best of these covers of anybody on RUclips. Definitely keep doing the uploads! They've definitely inspired me to try my hand at some MA covers, though they aren't anywhere near as technically correct as yours. Cheers man! \m/
Many thanks and I'm really glad to have inspired you to play some MA songs. More upload will come, I'm working on some new covers, many MA songs that I want to cover and play. Cheers!!
What was that you did at the end of the solo, press above the neck to simulate a higher fret and then use the bar? And why the fan in front of the amp?
Actually it's pushing down the whammy bar first, and then maintaining it down with the left hand and pressing the pick on the highest strings. And the fan in front of the amp is a technique imagined by Trey. The idea is actually to put the fan between the amp and the mic to create a dirty vibrato effect that no pedal can do, and this on just one amp.
Hi Patrik! I'm just interested in the Wind Rift technique. Does it actually work? I mean I hear something in the solo tone, but I don't understand the physics behind it... Do you use a low noise ventilator? Does it needs to be high power? Or an average one does the job? Thank you! Cheers! 🤘
Hi! Thanks for your question. Yes it really works. It creates a vibrato effect that no pedal can do. The sound waves hit every blade of the helix and it affects how the mic captures the sound. I've used an average fan. The only thing is that you have to set the volume of the amp high enough to have the right balance between the noise of the helix and what's coming out from the speaker. By the way, I've used this technique that came out from the out-of-this-world and limitless imagination of Trey on this: ruclips.net/video/YRS25Nf-rIA/видео.htmlsi=AgIg3JmyBvt2AZI7&t=136
@@patrikbnvn2847 Thanks the info? Have you experimented with his other two mic techniques? I tried them with no results, but maybe it was also a volume issue. Maybe I really need to crank the amp to hear something through thr glass bulb and to resonate the metal bowl...
@@akosbrett2564 Amazing that you've also tried these techniques. I've tried the Xposetron technique with the bowl and wasn't satisfied with the result, the sound captured was very loud and had too much frequencies that needed to be cut in the mix, but I think it was because of the material the bowl I used was made of which was actually not metal. Haven't tried the Anti-Vacuum Culture technique though, but really for this one I think that the amp needs to be cranked to the max to get some interesting results.
@patrikbnvn2847 I've tried all of these techniques, and after making some volume adjustments I managed to get out all of them to work. I found that my favorite is actually combining the metal bowl and the glass bubble (I use a glass jar since I don't have a bubble) which is something I don't think Trey himself has ever done...
3:11 Did you notice ? I've used Trey's Wind Rift mic_ing technique for the solo in this cover.
Amazing :)

Absolutely amazing stuff. Never knew about this technique but gonna try it as soon as I get home from work. You’ve got Trey’s playing down to a T
