Yeah as said in another comment, it could need some adjustments to be done for each take... BUT....I defy anyone to spot where the fan noise can be heard in a mix context in Trey's solos and in my solos on my own records ☝

This song is in D#, and the solos are harmonic and standard minor scales yeah, not really pentatonic stuff. Just switching from a minor scale to another

Thank you! Yeah Bleed for the Devil used to be one of my favourites from Altars when I was a kid. My all time favourite is Blesse are the Sick, but yeah, Gateways, Formulas, Heretic contain real gems!! And the solos from these 3 albums are beyond awesome!!!

Yes Trey's idea to put a fan between the amp and the mic is so cool!! This is subtle and no pedal can do this effect. With the fan blades there's a lot of subtle frequencies added to the amp tone that I like, not just the vibrato effect. By the way, by just putting a fan in front of the amp, not even recording anything, it sounds very different and so interesting.

For the purpose of this vid I've tried to keep the takes as natural as possible, but sure, then there's some adjustments to be done. First, in the context of a mix the fan noise can easily be cut. And I've experimented this technique in many ways, and moving the mic from the blades wouldn't work, the effect would be different. But definitely, having the amp louder helps 👍

@@patrikbnvn2847 A voice in a fan is a cool effect for sure. HPF or shelving on the fan blade track? I would be worried about losing my lows.

@@AAAA-lt9hq Yes that could be an issue. I'd say that for this kind of solos, low shelving can do the trick, or maybe just finding the fan noise frequency and reduce it. But in other context it can be more tricky, and I'd suggest to experiment different things to find what works best.

@@patrikbnvn2847 I was thinking a noise gate could do it but depending on where it is it might cut off more guitar than what one might want. In the original the fan motor sounds covered by the vocal.

@@goldwyrm Many thanks bro!! Yes, I'd say it's a lot of upstream work, because the solos on this record were composed and recorded in 1-2 weeks. And yeah, Kevin Paradis is killer, also drumming for the next Near Death Condition!

Yeah, F, G, H have the best solos, it's where they've reached such a high level of awesomeness. As for At One With Nothing, first solo is Trey, second Erik and last Trey. And Secured Limitations has my favorite solo, I play it as well and plan to cover this song one day, but 🤫

@@nishikun89 Yes I'd like to cover a few songs from Kingdoms, but nothing planned yet. The point with that album is that in my opinion the production sounds too modern and compressed to fit all the subtleties on guitars with all the polyrhythm parts on it and playing techniques used. For these reasons I like the demo versions better. But other than that, it's a nice album.
