Holy. Fuck. This has to be one of my top 3 ever favorite ween live songs... I literally cried at Deaner's solo and I can't even remember when a song last made me cry. Ween fucking rocks!
I had a coworker who knew more about music than I did... we shared an office outside of cubicle-land so I let her set up the Pandora, and gradually I came to realize that the band who did THIS song and THAT song and THAT song too, were one and the same band... eventually we just plugged into WeenRadio, which is still going (thank you, Deen!), and I became a huge fan. This song always was a fave, tho it was short!
I saw Ween in concert at least a dozen times, and they played Dr Rock almost every time, and it was always the best song of the concert -- the place would go apeshit. Smoke everywhere, strobes blasting away, and everyone up front (where I was) would start moshing so hard, it was fucking intense. The best!
For years I overlooked this song, thinking it would be an older goofier thing (not that God Ween Satan wasn't the best christmas present I ever received) and now that I've listened to it I regret not jamming to this in high school.
There's something about this song, the sense of complete chaos and out-of-control, punctuated by absolute and complete disciplined control, that keeps me coming back to it, year after year after year... brilliant on every level.
When i make my movie I am using this song during the opening credits. I will freeze frames and intro the characters everytime they say Dr. Rock. It will be a heavy action opening sequence.
Saw this performed on the 2000 tour at Irving Plaza, NYC. Same intensity and stage setup (lights, smoke, etc). Highlight of the show and one of the most memorable live moments from anyone.
It's songs like these that show Ween's super stardom prowess... I love that they never needed to be "superstars". Their light hearted humility in that regard commands respect.
the maturing of this song from the pod to this rocky horror picture show barnstormer is nothing short of miraculous. the gener steps up and comes alive here.
i'm fucking telling you, ween is living, breathing proof that rock is indeed NOT dead. if anything, it is back and better--nay, BROWNER--than ever, ready and willing to blow our minds to to jupiter if we let it.
With the incredibly wide breadth of their music, it's likely that you'll dislike some of their songs. But personally I think they do any kind of music better than any other band.
There's like a 2 second solo between about 2:12 and 2:14 that reminds me of MegaMan music. I wish he would've kept it going for at least another 6-7 seconds
that's my thinking, this is a going hard rock song, then u get blarney stone, good pub drinking beer song, and 12 golden country greats, great country.....ween do all styles of music so well
The 'weedly weedly effects' solo is kinda part of the point in a song like this. It's a semi-spoof y'know... I mean it's called "DR ROCK" you can't take it *that* seriously.
I agree the solo in this live version is mediocre. It's improvised and this one was a bit of a miss. As for great guitarists of our time - how do you measure that? Crazy technique? How fast someone's hands move? Rightfully, the jazz and classical guys are the best. I think where Mickey shines is composition. Few are better at composing solos to suit a song or genre rather than distracting from it. Songs like Flutes of Chi or Gabrielle and many others.
That's your opinion but I thought that solo was crap, just a bunch of weedly weedly and effects. Nothing any joe schmo guitarist in any bar band in the US couldn't do. To say he'll be one of the most legendary players in the 21st century? Ehhh......whatever you're smokin share with the rest of the class or put it down and get to rehab.
This is my first comment on youtube, there's no song which deserves it more
✊🏻✊🏽✊🏿
God bless WEEN!!!
round of applause for bob odenkirk on bass
You are a goddamn American hero
Bruh it's kinda hard to believe that Odenkirk was famous back then before a shitton of BB and BCS memes
lol
@@acat1473 I looked to see when the comment was posted and was expecting to see, like at most, “2 years ago” haha
Looks more like Drew Brees
Top that, any other rock band.
Jhensy2012 Been playing for 35 yrs - NO SHIT...they throw it DOWN
when its easy to be cocky about your favorite band..
if ween were "ju jitsu", any other rock band would be "karate"
I'm not s7ure if truer words have ever been spoken, kills
No contenders
@@tombrennan3973 implying they haven't been throwing it down since day one
love how they turn the brown upside down for so many tracks played live.
Lol couldn't have found a more Ween way to say it. The track on The Pod is lifeless to me in comparison to the way it melts faces live.
So extra brown.
This may be the most electrifying live performance I have ever seen in my life. God bless the ween.
They work those instruments quite well, but they're working that crowd even better.
True dat! Part of the magic.
Holy. Fuck. This has to be one of my top 3 ever favorite ween live songs... I literally cried at Deaner's solo and I can't even remember when a song last made me cry. Ween fucking rocks!
👍deaner's solo on ill be your johnny on the spot from this show got me crying while i was driving once, dude. absolutely transcending.
Claude is an absolute monster on this track!!! Killing it!!!!
Yo Claude Coleman Jr. Is as good a drummer if not better than all before him and forevermore!
It's what deaner was talking about...
Oh Yeah.
The band who did this song and that song and that song too.... That was my experience too my mang I felt that
Is she single?
May very well be the best performance of this concert
Johnny kicks ass too. Great show all around.
Paintin' the town brown's one is pretty good too

15 year ween fan here. Dr. Rock is one of the best Ween tunes.
There's something about this song, the sense of complete chaos and out-of-control, punctuated by absolute and complete disciplined control, that keeps me coming back to it, year after year after year... brilliant on every level.
I love the sluggish album version from "The Pod" but this here is such SUUUUCH an awesome live arrangement!
When i make my movie I am using this song during the opening credits. I will freeze frames and intro the characters everytime they say Dr. Rock. It will be a heavy action opening sequence.
How'd that go?
Best example of why Ween are a great live band.
dr rock is one of the best things ever
Saw this performed on the 2000 tour at Irving Plaza, NYC. Same intensity and stage setup (lights, smoke, etc). Highlight of the show and one of the most memorable live moments from anyone.
Great Live tune. I love how they speed up the song a little too. Kicks ass.
Saul Goodman on the bass...
I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice Dave Dreiwitz kinda looks like Bob Odenkirk.
@@AdhamOhmI was thinking Drew Brees
"that is just way too awesome...
It's beyond Awesome
'It's,
BEAWESOME!!!!'"
My favorite Ween song. I love how his Strat is painted like George Harrison's circa 1967.
Better than the studio version, and the best performance from this show imo
I actually prefer the studio version. This one is a bit too sped up for my taste.
It's songs like these that show Ween's super stardom prowess... I love that they never needed to be "superstars". Their light hearted humility in that regard commands respect.
Great tune!!! Just saw this on RUclips for first time.
Saw Ween live they only charged my 15 bucks played for over three hours and ended with this amazing track!
Wonderful, amazing, and sooo healing! BIG FAT FANX!
it just doesn't get any better than that
The meaning of rock `n roll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the maturing of this song from the pod to this rocky horror picture show barnstormer is nothing short of miraculous. the gener steps up and comes alive here.
Greatest band ever.
i'm fucking telling you, ween is living, breathing proof that rock is indeed NOT dead. if anything, it is back and better--nay, BROWNER--than ever, ready and willing to blow our minds to to jupiter if we let it.
Remember bumpin' the paintin town brown version in 2002 going 110mph on the freeway just like fuck y'all- LOL
Awesome performance!!!!
oh my god dean is so good at guitar i literally get pissed every time i see him play
With the incredibly wide breadth of their music, it's likely that you'll dislike some of their songs. But personally I think they do any kind of music better than any other band.
Do yourself a favor and get this DVD. Yes, I said DVD!!
Wow. Did we say DVD?!
I can't recommend alcohol and this show enough.
Live in Chicago
I like this live version of this song better then the version on the CD!! fuck yeah!!!
The doctor is in!!!
Amazing
There's like a 2 second solo between about 2:12 and 2:14 that reminds me of MegaMan music. I wish he would've kept it going for at least another 6-7 seconds
Goddamnit I love you guyzzzz
Best band in the world.
This is the song that forced me to remove my car stereo, how could I concentrate with this whilst I was driving?
I think if i saw 2:30-2:55 live I would cry and shit myself at the same time but it'd also be the best day of my life
THAT. ROCKED.
it seems that ween seeks the "source" of nearly every musical style and their songs reflect that...
Well put, exactly.
Did ever do a metal song? That'd be a trip.
In the zone constantly
Ineffably epic
I give it about 20 seconds, he is the true son of Hendrix right now!
DOCTOR ROCK!!
Oh so tight!!!!!!!
Holy fucking shit, yes!
that's my thinking, this is a going hard rock song, then u get blarney stone, good pub drinking beer song, and 12 golden country greats, great country.....ween do all styles of music so well
WEEN RULZ!!!
240p is the top quality? very brown
omg!
Lemmy would be proud, between this and It's Gonna Be a Long Night.
...they got all of that one...oh they did...
Sweeeeet!
It does sound a bit like The Sweet…
Gener's left hand is playing air guitar during the solo.
RIP Ween....
Quick, Derek, Man, Getcha Mammy!!
I love how the just look like
- A guy who escaped from a mental asylum
- A random high schooler and his dad
- Gus Fring
ALL HAIL GENE!
Hail Boognish!
Why didn't they play that song for 10 minutes!
@brianwjoyce1 And during the the "aaahhh!" fucken mad explosions and shit dude it would be nuts
@brianwjoyce1 Dude... that's amazing.

@nintendofreak64Lucas If I could vote this up 10000000000x, I would.
Dr. Rock and Final Alarm - quintessential, Ween cock rock standards.
My cock was rocking so hard.
2:33 their mind was blown
do they do any bad songs or is everything just sick???
Steel Beans brought me here.
Jesus fuck
BREAK!!!!
ONE TWO THREE FOUR ONE
by underrated I assume you mean highly rated lol
This gave me brownies
@brianwjoyce1 lol i've always thought the exact same thing
8 dislikes. I'll never understand that...
My friend can sing EXACTLY like Ween
My patient brought up this band. Wait. There's a '78 Gibson E-335 at home [locked up]. I may be Doctor Rock. If I want to...
Holy shit balls batman.
mark dutto, oz oxolins
.
quickly, derek run and get your mammy.
Best line ever
Looking for motorhead, thought it might be a cover. Sadly (or thankfully?) it wasnt. Pure drek. Fix yo algorithm YT
This is better than motorhead
Brown
*Welcome to COVID 19*
Ikon what this song isnt
You're (not-so) secretly Tarantino.
me rikey
if you've never listened to ween radio on winamp, you arent a real ween fan.
change my mind.
Where can I listen to this radio station?
browntown
Black Sabbath Ween
that and the drummer never gets any credit either
sufficient brownness...

Still killer as fuck
THIS IS GOOD BUT (THE SWEET) DID IT YEARS AGO 'ACTION"
