I've always taken this song as a double meaning. He met a girl at a concert and they hooked up and/or he was introduced to some drug at a concert and he got high. Whatever it was, it certainly had an impact on him.
I always thought the album version sucked. But I've got to say I really like it now cause underneath all the muckiness there's some weird, emotional stuff present. I still like this one better though; really chilly and trance inducing.
I always felt like it was just a piss take of cringey boy meets girl songs like at their dirty mucky core it's just some guy whos super smug about getting fucked. Like if you took an Ed sheeran song and like boiled it on a stove until it was just sticky gooey tar it would be the Pod version of she fucks me. I love it
Me and a girl i liked sat by a pond with one earphone each, listening to this, saying we love eachover for the first time. That was 5 years ago, good times
A co-worker of mine turned me on to this band 18 months ago. I really liked the song Mutilated Lips when it came out in 97 so it was cool to get into this band that I should have payed way more attention to back then. Maybe I didn't pay so much attention back then because of Push Th' little Daisies. That song to me was like a cancer on MTV ( was back in 91 or 92 from what I remember). Long story short... I can't go a day without listening to them. I love their Chocolate and Cheese rationale. Some songs are meant to be funny and some are like, ok...we can be rock n' roll Gods too when we feel like.
Im happy for you. The first couple years when I started were so awesome and a fresh new aspect on music. I had so much fun exploring their music and finding that next song I hadnt heard yet. I really wish you could have seen them live in person before they split but music is there forever once its created. Enjoy and long live the boognish!
This is like.. an ultimate dudes having feelings song. And it really should be more out there. I only discovered ween this past year, they're great! Thanks to outlaw country on serious xm
Well this wasn’t recent, not from a recent show. The brown was still going directly into the vein at this point for both of them so… IDK Pork roll egg and cheese on a Kaiser bun…
Appreciate it Danny. I kinda thought that, but the references can easily be made. Dope literally warms your body and without it, you freeze and get chills. And it def fucks you! And I thought maybe he could have been introduced to it at that show, but yeah I'm relatively new to ween so thanks for replying
+Scruffy P i wrote a love song about nothingness oh man i cant wait to be dead if thats death "i know youll be there every time i close my eyes" also it could be about a woman
I think this song is about boy/dope. Pins and needles is a term to describe the euphoric feeling, "she's in my arm, she's in my heart," etc. I could connect all the lyrics easily. Any thoughts?
It's about a girl he met at a show by a Grateful Dead cover band called "The Living Earth." He's 19 or 20 and has a girlfriend that he likes, she likes him back, she let's him fuck her. I don't think Deaner ever messed with heroin.
"Pork roll egg n cheese on a kaiser Bun" In My most slooowed Doooown, drag em Out, pinned Back voice That's the exact tone and speed your voice hits into my ears right as my nitras hits into my brain. .... ~Whoooo wheeeeee!!!! Damn.., Those were the good ol' days =} When drugs were still fun and done recreationally. Instead of soul suckingly on the daily just for survival not even kix n fun.
MMM... Taylor pork roll with some egg and provolone sounds fucking yummy right now. I will have to settle for a hoagie roll since I ain't got no kaiser. Such is life.
This is the weirdest fucking song ever written. I don’t even know how to process it. Gener’s back up vocals make it seem like it’s a joke song. Same with the pork roll egg and cheese lyric. However, Deaner is as serious as can be. So, who the fuck knows. What I do know is it is a perfect representation of the band.
There is a live version on Painting the Town Brown as well as this one on the DVD. I think the Painting the Town Brown version may have been with the country band, but my memory might be failing me. Between the country versions of songs on that album, and the Toronto live show - an amazing live album! -- I might be confused. Either way an amazing song to hear live and on the Pod.
A lot of people take this song at face value about a woman he meets. But it's not hard for me to listen to it as a double entendre about drugs (heroin?)
I have a totally inappropriate crush on Dean Ween when he sings this song. Not even the drugs can hide he's all emotional about something.
Me too.......
What's inappropriate about that, though?
That's me always.
Same! (sigh)
For some reason, I think the part at 2:33 where they both look at each other and look back at the same exact time is so cool.
Thanks for pointing that out lmao
Like a movie scene dawg
Nothing can hurt a man more than the woman he loves.
Ive said for some time, theres nothing to bring a man up or down like a woman.
Gay
You mean nothing can fuck a man more?
Or heroin

Makes me cry. Both the album version and this live one; but this live one really really does it.

Just about all Pure Guava is like that. They're all great songs even if they're produced in strange ways.
I also prefer this one though

Your opinion is valid! :)

I really like the studio version but this is just so much better. So fucking good
“Studio” is a strong word in the Pod’s case

IMO, one of the few bands that sound better live.

clearly it is a very emotional song for him, you can tell at some points he's really into it. so I'm gonna say both.
