Thank god. George-a designer-finally talking sense about the Rolex color monstrosities. Senseless rubbish to "push" the color train a bit more after their lovely, colorful OP range. Emojis on a Rolex, just no. Jumped the shark for me.
I honestly think that brands get into colorful ideas just to market their inventory towards the LGBTQIA+ community. Which is fine acknowledging them, but I don’t think they do it in support of… They do it simply because it’s profitable and they want to appear supportive.. Love the GMT as a throwback homage to the original GMT masters in gold on jubilees, that’s the #1 pick for me this year. The 1908 I think will become a sleeper hit in later years if they keep refining it. I personally like to see big second hands rolling not a small one, I’d buy a chronograph if I wanted a sub-dial for a second had. I think sub-dials should be reserved for other complications personally. Which is what that 1908 should’ve had.
Completely agree - this is utter garbage. Its akin to Rolex having a mid life crisis! Yes - be brave, but that is just awful! I completely agree also that it looks like it could be a rolex fake.
They literally don't do anything for a decade and when they change the slightest bit (less than old vs new Speedy for example) it looks like the invented sliced bread... ridiculous
I love the 3 often contrasting expert opinions in this video which makes this channel so unique. I do think it was a good year for Rolex, and a response to some of their critics with open case backs, nods to their heritage, some surprises and more fun/playful releases, additional Titanium models, and updated movements. I am sad the Milgauss was discontinued, it was their most fun and quirky line (I own and love the Z Blue). However a redesigned Milgauss is inevitable in 2026 for its 70th year. With its scientific heritage here is the opportunity for Rolex to flex R&D budget and engineering design on anti-magnetic resistance and movement precision, whilst evoking more of the original 50s design. On individual releases 1/GMT yellow gold jubilee - love, modern take on a classic. 2/Platinum Daytona - open case back plays to fans, but is at the expense of the satisfying weight 3/Titanium Yachtmaster- agree with Andrew the lack of heft is disconcerting, although makes sense for the marketed function / purpose. Prefer the more interesting yacht master with falcon eye dial on the stealth wealth white gold option 4/1908 good to see, not yet a Calatrava beater but interesting to see where it goes. I love the art deco vibe on older Cellini options like the Dual time or Cellinium , and/or offer with natural stone dials normally reserved for datejust and DayDates. 5/Skydweller. Great dial options. Hope to see the everose gold teal dial on oysterflex to pair it down a bit 6/Bubble dial OP and emoji DayDates. Don’t personally think these work, but they’re clever marketing clickbait for the brand. I do think Rolex play to their target audience ‘base’ above fully satisfying the most hardcore watch enthusiast. BUT I respect the quality and appeal of their overall product, case and tapered bracelet design. So I’m still a fan.
Although it's not my type of watch, the 1908 is hands down the best thing Rolex showed at W&W this year. It's absolutely stunning, especially in yellow gold with the white dial, and I honestly think it will be looked back on as the turning point where Rolex finally stopped being viewed as an overpriced sports watch brand and started being taken seriously as a luxury brand. The watch I'd actually buy would be the titanium YachtMaster though, 42mm is just right for my wrist and I love the monochrome look.
I saw the box and the first thing that came to mind was "Did AET just hijack Watches and Wonders by releasing their own watch?" The Limited Edition WOLF Winder is still cool.
Best 18 minutes I have spent today. Enjoyed the dichotomy in each of your perspectives. All of it is food for thought in weighing a future watch acquisition.
So much fun, so would want to see an entire cover on W&W 2023 in this style! You guys rock! The 1908 is a nice Longines addition.... Oh, BTW the Bamford Aquaracer makes the Yachtmaster eat dust.
Georges Point about the Yacht Master is so true! As with the Explorer 2 last year - a Watch that arguably every (true) Rolex passionist loves - got absolutely no love, not even a green text. And now they did the same with their Icon and could not be bothered to invent a new Platona so they did the caseback thing. They turn into the clientel they want to draw in, people who do not care about anything but the fact that there is a Crown with the Rolex font underneath it.
Absolutely agree with the scores: the yellow gold GMT Master II is the one great piece from them this year. Now I need to shop for a perpetual calendar so I have an excuse to get that AET Wolf winder... thanks! 😂
I was undecided on the Yacht-Master, but after George's argument, I think he's right... I'm 100% with George here. Every take he had, I had myself, or I now agree with.
Interesting thought by George. I also think that the bars should be raised when looking at rolex releases just because theyre hyped up all the time. I love the caseback display on the daytona.
Great video as always. Question for Adrian , if you can rock a 42mm ExpII surely a 42mm Yachtmaster in titanium would wear the same only lighter? Just curious to hear your thoughts on this 👍🏻
They wear differently. The YM42 is much thicker at the sides with the rotating bezel. And I actually feel my Exp2 is too big when on the bracelet, which is why I wear it on a strap. Cheers, Adrian
Adrian, you said the 42 mm YM titanium was too big, but don’t you own and love a 42 mm Explorer 2 and a 42mm Seamaster 300m? What do you think is the difference?
This was a bit of an unhinged episode, but it really just shows how Rolex has a personal relationship with every watch enthusiast. I ultimately agree with Andrew's opinions, and George really has a good sense of business branding. Adrian I love because he's just all vibes man. Great episode!

the puzzle emoji dial is so random. I don't hate it but whose idea was it? Who said, "let's put puzzle pieces on the dial and then put emojis and some motivational phrases." Literally the most random thing ever.
I need that Wolf winder collaboration in my life however I need a perpetual calendar watch to really utilize that though. I wouldn’t put a 3 hand time only in it as would be like running the car in idle inside the garage and wearing it out unnecessarily 😂

Another great video. Could have gone with a little less of Andrews impatient pacing around and cutting the others off aside from that my favorite has to be that platinum Daytona and case back that deserves an emoji 😍 unlike that puzzle . It's the puzzle Rolex because anyone that looks at it is instantly puzzled
