"this must have been like such a moment" yes, it was THE moment. THIS is the true plot twist of FF7. It wasn't Aerith's death, it wasn't anything else, it was this. It was the revelation of Cloud's true identity and how he triumphed over his childhood hero turned madman villain and him remembering who he truly was and regaining his identity after thinking he was someone else the entire game.
Cloud may be the only fictional character I relate to. Constantly feeling not good enough, wanting to improve, finding a ray of hope only for it to also say you’re not good enough, and be too embarrassed to talk to anyone about it. But Cloud shows us it’s mind over matter. The power of belief is a powerful thing and when you get your head in the right place, you’ll amaze even yourself what you can do.
@@omensoffate in an attempt to make him a Sephiroth clone by Hojo. He may have gained great strength from that, but it wasn’t so he could use it of his own free will.
@@omensoffate He does get injected, but only after this scene. What's so pivotal about this scene, is that Cloud has within him the power the defeat the great Sephiroth, even without any Mako infusion or Jenova cells.
@kenshinsgirl The reveal of Cloud's true past was one the first major WTF plot twists I remember from a video game. The look of awe and surprise in first-time players' faces is amazing to see.
The Zack in the memory restoration is nothing compared to the hidden cut scene in the shinra manor, But the reason Cloud can over power Sephiroth is because Hojo was already experimenting on Cloud with Jenova cells before the reactor incident. When cloud was being infused with Mako like all infantry men he was also bing juked up with Jenova cells.
That happened after, not before. Even in Crisis Core, it’s shown that after the Nibelheim incident, Cloud and Zack were taken to the mansion and began further experimentation with Jenova cells. Cloud’s issues begin then BECAUSE of the mako poisoning and Jenova cells. He was rejected as a SOLDIER candidate because he couldn’t handle it. Grunts are just normal people.
To be honest, when i played this the first time, when first released, i didn't understand this scene. No one knew who Zack was. There was no Crisis Core then. You know, but you "don't know". Not the full depth of what's happening.
That because of the mako infusion from the experiments and the Jenova cells, Cloud basically took on Zack's memories to LITERALLY be his living legacy. His mind was broken and put back together all wrong. Kind of like Jason Bourne.
Cloud didn't take on Zack memories. He was so ashamed he wasn't a SOLDIER that he subsituted himself to Zack and made himself look"better" in his own mind. Sure, the trauma and Mako poisoning didn't help, but he did not get Zack memories.
@@coxfireactually, it’s a combination of what @Marvellous132 and you said. The second he saw Zack die, his psyche snapped and that mixed with the mako poisoning and Hojo’s experiments he unintentionally adopted Zack’s backstory as his own, he believes he did everything he did. He didn’t exactly take his memories cause he didn’t know Aerith upon meeting her for the first time, it’s just everything Zack did in Soldier, Cloud thinks he did until this clarification.
U played it as a child? Or just heard about this? Replaying it rn. Aeris about to go. Can‘t stop playing! Great you played it through a modern lense and still felt it.
I did not play as a child. This was my first time, though I knew the story beats from existing on the internet. It was amazing to finally see in context! Good luck on your playthrough ⭐️
@@kenshinsgirl Can you please rewatch this entire part but on the original PS1 port? because every single port actually fucked up the music scoring. the music was timed specifically to play at a certain time, it was scored a perfect way, but every other FF7 port messed up. you can;t miss it. just search up a youtube lets play no commentary and skip to this part only. thanks

Fun fact, in the OG FF7, if you checked Cloud's inventory at Nibelheim, he had the preemptive strike materia. That's how he got that hit on Sephiroth.
I remember playing this in 1998 and getting blown away by this plot twist.
It's some really intricate and exciting writing!

People have name's like Cloud, Sephiroth, Red 13 and then theres...Zack
That’s one of the reasons why he didn’t make it 😢
Ever Crisis has Glenn and Matt.
The reason why Final Fantasy VII has one of the best stories in history is because the writers took stuff from spirituality, religion, and philosophy.
They totally nailed it

Tbh you don't even need to explain why Cloud can overpower Sephiroth. It's just willpower
