Another way to do this is to cut the top sashing strip 1 and 1/2 Inches wide. Fold it in half and press. Sew the raw edges to the quilted block and back strip. Then when you flip it over you already have a folded edge to stitch.
I've been doing QAYG for years and this is basically how I do mine but my front strip is wider and folded in half so I don't have a raw edge to deal with on the front. Either way, QAYG is fun and so easy to do :)
Thank you for this tutorial. I am working on my first memory quilt and now finally understand how to attach the blocks. I am a new quilter and appreciate the clear instructions. Glad I found you.🙂
Starting on grandma's birthday...that's a sign...husband walks in just as it starts --- ooo pretty are you going to do that...another sign. Guess I'm in! Happy Friday, off to work now
Thanks for explaining this so well. I bought the original book QAYG but was having a hard time picturing the two sided joining. This video made it clear! ❤
Thank you Lisa, for this video. I have not been able to watch your videos, since I am back at the office. This technique will help make a "Quilt as you go" quilt I have created for my 85 year old mom. I was wondering how I was going to place the blocks together. These technique seems the the best way. Thank you again. Love ya! Gloria
Thanks also for the idea of that little piece of cloth, which you add when finished sewing. I guess it is for the threads not to go out from the needle eye)
Hello! I hope you had a joyful day! I was in my sewing room yet a project ready for filming and now I get to sit and watch your video! You are my treat for the day! I hope you have a lovely week ahead! Thanks for sharing your informative video and your expertise!
Love all the blocks my daughter let me use her printer hopefully I can print these and sew with you and all the other ladies thank you for all your work you put into all the projects
Very cute series. One suggestion for your next series... keeping beginners in mind... start out with block #1 as the simplest (like the star block) and the last block the most complicated. That way beginners can build their skills as they work through the series. Sending lots of love 💖 from sunny 🌞 Arizona 🌵. Take care of yourselves 😷.
I love this series and can't wait to do this one! I am loving QAYG and all my creative endeavors that you have given me the encouragement to just keep going and helped build my confidence to keep creating! YOU ARE AMAZING!!!
This is awesome always wanted to to QAYG quilt blocks, also good tip using the card stock paper. Thank you Lisa so much for all you do for the quilting community, thanks for sharing
Yes, it is!! Will help so much... I've done it the other (fly by the seat of your pants) way, hahaha This idea beats that by a country mile!! 💜 Lisa does it again 🤗
Lisa I'm looking forward to each class on the appliques for this quilt. Each one of the applique's are cute I like them. Can't wait to start this class. 😁
Lisa I haven't done a quilt along before, and this one is too cute not to join. Looking forward to it! Bonus... I'll have another completed project, whoo-hoo!!😄👏🏾👏🏾
What a great sashing method, I love the look specially the narrow binding very neat. I’m just wondering if that method could be used on a 10” block, would you have to add strips of batting and wider sashing. Thanks so much for sharing 👍❤️😊
Love this so much. I don’t have a long arm machine yet so I’m definitely gonna try this. If I did this on T-shirt quilts, could I use 2 1/2 strips? Would I need to still cut the shirts with the 1/2” seam allowance?
Oh wow, that is adorable. I am so excited to try this. I love how it is put together and I love the patterns you chose for each block. My schedule has been so busy, so if I miss any I will be sure to watch on the replay. I have been asked to teach a class on home canning. Plus, I am a part of a city- wide prayer team and I am attending a 6- week Bible study at our church. There is just so much going on as well as I have been canning for our family. I definitely want to do this project with you all and will be here as often as time allows.
Can you help please with some advice? I have joined 6 blocks together and made a row, now to join the rows together, it is quite lengthy and the fabric isn't long enough to cover one end to another so can I join small pieces together to make 1 long piece? Thank you for a reply.
I have a couple of questions on the supplies for this quilt as you go project. the 5x5 fabric squares are they to be in one color? It says one charm pack. Is charm packs not different colors? What is the wool, flannel or cotton scraps for? The thin batting is there a specific brand? Sorry for all the questions just trying to get a head start on the supplies since I can only shop on the weekends. Thank you all for being so willing to help beginners like me.
Hi Linda........You can cut the 5x5" squares from yardage OR use a charm pack. The colors are totally up to you. In my example shown, I cut the squares all from tea stained muslin, and they are all the same. In the quilt I'm making with you during the series I'll be using a Kona charm pack with all different colors. The batting I'm using will be Warm & Natural cotton batting.....that's really a personal preference. The wool, flannel or cotton scraps will the the applique fabrics.....you don't HAVE to use wool or flannel, this list is only to give suggestions and options.
@@TheQuiltmakerHomestead So it is kind of like the hummingbird but the background fabric is different colors with using the charm pack. I think I got it.
I love all you videos but today I am soooo discouraged. I am trying to quilt a placemat but my machine (new)….Baby Lock Presto 2, will not sew it properly, the stitches are tiny even if I ask for 4 and the material even if I used spray glue bunches underneath, all is pinned but no go. I could just cry…..
Hi Doris, they won't be in the comments. You'll need to open the description box of the videos. Click on SEE MORE if on a pc or the little grey arrow next to the title of the video if on a mobile device
Lisa Anu to your RUclips channel. But I have been watching for some time and I love what you do. I'm watching you right now with the block as you go. But every time I try to download, I can't get it. Or actually any of them so I get nothing as far as you're free. So I'm missing out so what I do is take a picture on my phone and work from there. Not easy but doing the best I can with your help. Can you help me get some free patterns of yours? I like your 12 by 12 pattern of your cat and flower and puppy dog. So I'm a sheen and star. I think. Can you help thank you, lillie

Yes, by folding all the strips are exactly the same width.

I like it .. thank you
Thank you vers much
I wish I knew this method when I made my Christmas quilt last year. I followed a didn’t method from another quilter and the back didn’t look to great.
Can you help please with some advice? I have joined 6 blocks together and made a row, now to join the rows together, it is quite lengthy and the fabric isn't long enough to cover one end to another so can I join small pieces together to make 1 long piece? Thank you for a reply.

Hi Lisa Fabulous video as usual how do I find the Patterns for all the blocks...
@@elainespoor1439 thank you so much! You'll find the links for the patterns in the description boxes of each of the videos :)

Lisa do you like a wool pressing mat
I haven't yet tried one :)
What type of batting is best for qayg?
I'm partial to a thinner batting, but don't believe there is a right or wrong :)
Why do your blocks look stiff? Or is it just an optical illusion kinda thing? I was hoping to use the one I make for a little girl’s doll quilt.
They are small blocks, and I glue basted my top, batting and backing fabrics......if I washed this it would soften up.
i know this is a quilting tutorial but i want you to know how beautiful your skin is just flawless i am in the beauty field so i cant help noticing
Wow, thank you so much!

Why do you have the little piece of red fabric when you sew?
it helps the machine not pull fabric down into machine and also saves thread
