I add my sashings the same way you do. That's how I learned many years ago and I know there are other ways to do them but I prefer this method. The only thing I do differently is I add my backing to my squares when I'm quilting them and then I trim them to the size I want. I like my backing to be quilted. I also will sometimes use different size sashing strips. I've made quilts with 4 1/2" strips ironed in half for the front and back. That gives more room to sew and it gives it a different look. I also make strips in different colors for front and back. You did a good job explaining and showing this method. I'm sure it was helpful for new QAYG quilters.
Hi Miriam, I just found your channel yesterday 23/10/2023 and watched your video showing your way of sandwiching a quilt using Elmers glue. Got my friend to get me some glue (here in Melbourne Australia) and I’m going to attempt finishing a medium size quilt. I have subscribed and am now watching your earlier videos. Thank you for your excellent teaching. Bless you dear girl.
Thank you Miriam. I’m making a 9 patch now that I am going to attempt qayg. Not making promises, but I’m going to try. I love your podcast and will visit your website soon. ❤
I thank you for showing your technique. It is important to learn from others to expand knowledge for quilting. There are so many ways to quilt. I want to learn more about 'quilt as you go' and you have provided another way. Thank you so much for your tutorials.
Love the music from that time period. It's great. Also, I've seen other tutorials on how to join the quilt as you go blocks and your method, to me, looks the best and that the way I will do it. Thank you for your hard work to put these videos on here. I simply love your channel. Have a great day! :)
Thank you for this tutorial Quilt as you go is somethingI have only tried with kits like the june taylor ones I want to try something bigger and your block looks fun . Also I like how you are taking us though the quilt like a journey with the quilt itself its really cool.
Thank you so much! These blocks are SO fun to make and, honestly, a little addicting! 🤓 I try to make my tutorials fun and not like a “typical” tutorial! Thank you for the positive feedback, I truly appreciate it 💖
Adorable. I love your backing fabric. Where was your quality control buddy 😻😻. I make small kennel quilts for ARL. I think I may need to try this. Will make good practice time. Can’t wait to see how you do binding. Have a great weekend
Oh wow that’s awesome, Peggers! I love that! Yes, Miss Kimchi was missing in action that day 😂 if she’s not being my drill sergeant, she’s getting her beauty rest 😂🥰 Let me know how it goes! I love this sashing method. It’s so satisfying see the rows come together!!! You have a great weekend too!
Do quilt-as-you-go quilts feel “disjointed” between the blocks? Does it feel like a normal quilt when finished or can you tell the batting ends between the sashing?
I can’t speak for other tutorials, but as long as you follow my tutorial, you will not have that issue. It feels like a “regular” quilt with one large piece of batting. Even after several washes, it’s great! Thank you for watching! 💖
@@StitchObsessed awesome! Thanks so much for replying. I’m thanking the RUclips algorithm for recommending your channel!! I’m loving your way of teaching!
There are lots of ways to do quilt as you go. This was just how I decided to do this quilt 😊 You certainly can add the backing during the quilting process if that is the look you are going for!
@@StitchObsessed I'm new to it, and the only tutorials I'd gone through showed that they went through the backing with the quilting. That's why I thought it was the "only way". Thank you for your reply. Now I know more. 😊
I’m a firm believer that there are no actual rules in quilting🤓 what works for some people, may not work for others, and that’s okay! I’m happy to answer any questions you might have along the way! Thank you for stopping by 💖🤓
Great video Miriam! Thanks so much. I really like your style of modern quilt blocks in various colorways and the movement throughout!
Thank you so much!

Will need to do it but it seems like the 2 in sashing covers more of one block than the other?? Do you compensate when you make upur block?
how do I add borders on to quilt as you go ?
That is a very good question, and I should probably make a video to show how to do it!
Why didn't you quilt through your backing? Isn't that the true way to do quilt as you go?
