  • I've spent some time trying to get great shots on my bike from a DJI Mini 3 PRO. It's hard work and takes alot of time. I'm really not sure that it's worth it, what do you think? Any top tips for me? I might just have to get something else.

You should have known was it was capable of, before you bought it, plenty of RUclips videos showing what it can, and what it can't. It's called research.

The original idea off chucking in £50 each and buying a used drone for £300 may have been the right idea in hindsight. I still loved the trip footage you produced for us lads but could feel your frustration at the time.

I have a drone and added to many of my videos on the channel but haven’t used it now for over a year. While I think it adds to the videos, not many comment on the shots and by no means does it gain any more views because of it.

Looks like a lot of faff, I find it hard enough making sure the go pro is rolling.

DJI makes the best drones. But they don't have a clue how things work in real life. The only way to have it follow you on a motorcycle is with follow-me. That is GPS. Not optical. And the only way to have follow-me is with a third party app like Lichi, Maven, or Dronelink, if they are compatible with your model.
Active-track is great for getting nice interesting shots. But it simply takes too much time to be user friendly. I won't even mention the clumsy controller. While follow-me is just a matter of pushing a button.
Now there are basically two different of GPS follow-me: String, and Compass. Only the last type really works for bikers. It means you can have it fly in front of you so you can watch what it is doing. Watching the phone screen is NOT an option and dangerous. When you put a drone with compass type follow-me north of you, it will stay north if you turn left or right and then fly side wards next to you. Of course you want to be able to use the sticks anytime and it should stay in follow-me mode.
Follow-me may not have obstacle avoidance! But you usually want nice views in the open field anyway. Fly it high enough so you won't hit a tree.
As important is a homepoint update. You don't want having to ride back to where it took off when return-to-home kicks in for some reason.
My Fimi A3 is the best fastest follow-me drone ever made. If I move 1 mm, it moves. But my €135 L09 Pro does a pretty good job also. Proof that it has zero to do with the price of a drone. Its funny how people hardly know about GPS follow-me. That's because DJI refuses to provide it. But active-track with obstacle avoidance isn't any safer. Use the sensors in your head.
I'm not against optical tracking with obstacle avoidance. It's a great feature. But not on a bike. And certainly not a a motorbike. It simply is too unreliable and annoying.

Thank you for the thorough comments, lots to think about and research amongst all that 🙌
