Comment on the Veg steamer: About a year ago I purchased a microwave dinner that came with a steamer tray, I saved it and have used it successfully for a year now, it holds enough for two. Example: We cook Asparagus in it all the time, and the amount it holds is borderline to much for two people. I would say the Veg Steamer is unnecessary for what it does, just buy yourself a a frozen meal with one in it, and it most likely will be cheaper and function just well if not better. My two cents
I clean houses for work (vacation rentals) and often bring a pack of ramen for lunch. I feel like the soup mug would be perfect for work for me because when I've microwaved in a bowl, it frequently will boil over and make a mess in the microwave, and so I usually take the time to boil it on the stove but that also creates extra cleanup and takes longer. With the soup mug I could do it all in one container, clean it quick in the sink, and move on! Thanks for showcasing that!
the triangular shape helps evenly heat your food. microwave heats from side to side. with a triangle it is closer to equidistant to the center from all angles. you can also use a square and dig out a hole in the center of your foods
Your channel is so oddly addicting lol. Just a friendly tip though on this product, you were confused on the reheat vent thing. Remember microwaving something that's already cooked isn't additionally cooking it you're just reheating it. rule of thumb if you can eat it directly out of its container without doing anything to it it's already cooked. It may not be the most tasty way to eat it but it is already cooked, thus even though it may be the first time you're heating it it's not the first time it's been heated and cooked. 😉
Useless wastes of plastic, everything cooked here can easily be done in a glass or ceramic dish. You can also cook corn in the husk in a microwave, just trim off excess bits on both ends to fit in a smaller machine and take off the outer leaves if they are dry. I cook it for 90 seconds then turn over and cook for another 90 seconds though my microwave is kind of crap and old so might not take as long in a better machine.
I soak the corn in water with the husks wrapped back on on after unshucking it, for a few minutes too, which develops steam inside the husk...works great! Oh, and free!

For the veggie steamer, I would have tried leaving it in the microwave for a minute or two after cooking so that it continues to cook a little more in that environment. This method seems to work well with things like my ramen cooker and mac & cheese cooker, not sure how much that would vary in terms of veggies tho.

I had bought the Rapid Brand Potato cooker before seeing your review of it. I just tried it in a 900 watt microwave oven with two small yellow potatoes at six and half minutes with a little bit of water in each. They came out really good. Your review helped me decided what time to use on my unit.

I bought one of the soup bowls and like it very much. I did discover that I can't make oatmeal according to the instructions for microwave oatmeal on the box. It says to use 1/2 cup of oatmeal and 1 cup of water in the microwave for 2 minutes and 45 seconds. I've used that procedure for years using an open bowl but in my new soup bowl at about 2 minutes it spewed all over my microwave. The good thing is that now my microwave is the cleanest it has been in years. So I would recommend not using the bowls for anything that might foam up. The bowl works great for soup and for reheating my chicken and rice. Thank you for these tests as I've bought several items that you have suggested and never been disappointed. I'm not disappointed in my soup bowl, I just can't use it for oatmeal.
I've had that red soup bowl for years (probably version just before it) and I use it all the time. No shame in an easy to use, easy to clean and lightweight bowl with lid. 😉

I would say the Veg Steamer is unnecessary for what it does, just buy yourself a a frozen meal with one in it, and it most likely will be cheaper and function just well if not better. My two cents
People make me sick. People seriously complained about a hot dog cooker being greasy afterwards? What is wrong with people?
for someone that lives in a dirt poor area, with internet being a miracle here this is true, people should learn to live a good life, not a spoiled one.
Some people don't have the luxury to live a good life and that is why we have poverty @@lanthan598
What’s wrong with people….
How much time ya got?
XD but yeah they’re hot dogs. The complainers about grease have just not washed the thing.
People sometimes forget that meat sweats out grease when it's cooked.
Glad to see that you are uploading videos often!
Triangular seems like an odd choice. I don't see how it would add any benefit.
The plastic the couldve used to make a square was saved it benefits them by saving money on buying plastic i guess
the triangular shape helps evenly heat your food. microwave heats from side to side. with a triangle it is closer to equidistant to the center from all angles.
you can also use a square and dig out a hole in the center of your foods
One thing i never see reviewers do is review how much effort to clean something is.
I would love to see more of that
Love your channel. I always enjoy your reviews. Thank you.
Love the reviews
Really like all your video reviews, but why would anyone want to take the time to boil a hotdog?
As the great Alton Brown states: you don’t need any of these uni-taskers.
Glass can shatter. Plastic is safer if you're a regular microwave user.
@@Midgey you have to use borosilicate glass
commonly branded as Pyrex
this is safer than plastic. you won't have any chance of the plastic leeching into the foods
@@Midgey By the looks of your profile picture I've been using a microwave since longer than you've been alive and I don't recall ever shattering any glass in it. You still have to put water in it with the food item to help the cooking along and evenly distribute the heat. I use corelle and pyrex dishes mostly.
What I love about your videos is that in every one you do you look like you actually enjoy what you’re doing. Like you actually have fun reviewing things and it isn’t just for a check and I love that. Thank you ❤️
I love watching your videos, keep it up!
You can just put hotdogs in the microwave for like 30 seconds and they are warm.
Was binge watching some of your travel reviews this morning, so was glad to see a new video. Fun fact - the only bad sunburn I got was in Hawaii. Have a good day.
That rapid hot dog cooker looks exactly like the same container that the lunch truck serves and packages it's hot sandwiches in and the most expensive sandwich he sells is 4 bucks. I have a few of them that I keep my gloves and pencils in. I just throw them out in the recycling bin.
Wouldn't just any bowl you already have work for any of these uses?
Some plastic isn't microwave safe and for steam you need a lid. Otherwise yes.
@@SvobodovaEva Put a plate on top?
It is super easy to steam veggies in the microwave without buying that plastic thing.
you are my absolute number one content creator to watch, keep up the great work James!
One of my favorite channels - always makes my day to see you post. By the way, what is the point of that amount of Oatmeal? I'd need at least three of those I think!
Using a plastic container ,
in a microwave scares me.
10 years later,
my health might regret lack of common sense.
.
I'm so glad I found this channel. I feel like James would be fun to hang out with.
What a great timing! Watching this before bed!
This video only showed up on my phone and not my desktop. Either way, great video again.
It’s nice to see some things that are simple and just work. No overly engineered trash that does the job half as well.
James you’re a legend mate! Love the quality content you give us all. Mad love and good vibes from India !
I love your videos man. You’re comedic yet do real world situations in your reviews. Now sure your experiments aren’t scientific but I feel that you use relatable situations and accurate tests then provide your opinion as to if a product is good or not. I’ve bought a couple products that you’ve reviewed just off the fact that I enjoyed your review. Considering I’m in college this episode is extremely helpful and I might buy the soup bowl thing considering I’m always making Ramen lol. Thanks for the honest reviews James!
For the veggie steamer, I would have tried leaving it in the microwave for a minute or two after cooking so that it continues to cook a little more in that environment. This method seems to work well with things like my ramen cooker and mac & cheese cooker, not sure how much that would vary in terms of veggies tho.
I really like that you don't hide brand names, unlike a lot of sellouts on here.
@BadDriversOfTennessee Oh man yeah. Such nonsense.
If your diabetic that veggie thing might be really good for portion control sizes.
Other than the soup bowl just because of the handle, all these be replaced with a simple bowl and ANY lid. Heck, even using a dish as lid would work.
Good morning James. Finally you have a product that I already have the soup mug is great at least for the first couple of years. The lid does tents to wear out quicker than the mug itself. I'd have to say that's my only beef with this product..
James, for a hotdog I go straight from freezer, roll in paper towel and microwave about 50 seconds. It takes longer to toast the roll.
Thanks for another fun video.
I hope you and your family are staying safe. Best wishes to all.
Got myself a mug, thanks!
Freakin great reviews. Much appreciate
Grind to 600k subs! Rooting for you
I had bought the Rapid Brand Potato cooker before seeing your review of it. I just tried it in a 900 watt microwave oven with two small yellow potatoes at six and half minutes with a little bit of water in each. They came out really good. Your review helped me decided what time to use on my unit.
I have one of those Microwave soup bowls but the taller version for my ramen, they are fantastic only thing I wish they considered was a holder for your utensil.
I found a tip for corn - wrap in paper towel, wet it slightly under the tap. Put on a small plate and microwave in 2.5 minutes. Perfect and quick with no gadget needed.
You’re brave using the nice built in microwave for all these tests. I think I’d be buying a countertop version just incase something went wrong. 😂
I have owned and used the soup cup for over a year with no problem. Being old with arthritis, I really appreciate the ease the lid snaps on and off. I would absolutely recommend this cup 😅😅❤
I have multiple ramen and Mac n cheese rapid cookers, the bowls work for other stuff too, and they are our favorite cooking bowls. That said, I'd probably still prefer my systema soup bowls for canned soup.
I use the soup mug to steam or cook fresh , frozen and canned veggies. I also reheat leftovers in it. Love it.
As the great Alton Brown states: you don’t need any of these uni-taskers.
Oh my.. you crushed my heart and soul into million pieces right at the moment you bashed the ramen into oblivion. And to add salt to the inury you used a fork..
I.. i can't even. That's like shredding spaghetti into tiny bits, cooking it in plain water, draining it loosely, and then adding some salt and eating it with a knife in the end.
There are all products that we don't actually need, and since they're basically just containers it's hard for them to screw up.
Plastic getting hit with microwaves doesn't scream CANCER either.
@@jeremiahbachmann3901 Agreed. While some plastics may be labeled as microwavable, that may only mean that they won't melt, but who knows what can leach into your food? To be safe, microwave only with glass or ceramics, not these plastic gizmos.
@@Bobrogers99 are you also an antivaxxer and afraid of 5g?
@@ayajade6683 Lord, no! Quite the opposite. But some cheap plastics are not suitable for microwaving, though OK for cold food. The health standards in China can be erratic.
@@Bobrogers99 you sounded dangerously close to one
I love the "timeout moment", and the split screen showing the footage, and you, on the other side explaining what is happening in the video. I really like the style of filming, I think its great.
I had an omelette maker that got burnt when trying to make bacon there... I miss my gadget :'(
I bought one of the soup bowls and like it very much.
The last thing this world needs is more plastic garbage when a simple reusable plate or bowl will work just as well.
I've had that red soup bowl for years (probably version just before it) and I use it all the time. No shame in an easy to use, easy to clean and lightweight bowl with lid. 😉
Gadget Daddy😍
I never seen someone who makes things that are clearly so simple super complicated while looking aggravated and confused the entire time....
I wish this bowl came with instructions 🤣
@@bigchig01 💯🤣
Apart from the soup mug, these tbings are are all a waste of time and money.
My trick to clearing grease from my plastic dishes is to rinse in cold water while wiping, after a warm, soapy wash. Works great!! Loving the music at the beginning of the video, BTW. My first thought was dancing to it with you, but if you already have a partner, I humbly apologize. 😅
I think you are being too lenient on these, they really didn't look like they worked as advertised or provided any real value over a normal bowl or plate
normal bowls dont work in a microwave lmao the bowl gets hot but the food never does
i have a different brand (and bigger) version of the soup bowl and it was really handy for bringing lunches to college. now I mostly use it for defrosting veg and making noodles and occasional meal prep
Thank you. I really needed some wholesome content today
You're supposed to add water when microwaving hotdogs?? Just put 'em on a plate, poke a few wholes in 'em, and hit go. Ready in under a minute. 🤷♂️
When u poke hole or slice it your letting the juices escape
Love the videos man. They're always informative and entertaining.
I cook the old-fashioned way, I don't have a micro. I used to own one, I gave it away because I didn't use it
I love my Veggie Steamer. It was a life saver when we had our house fire back in 2016. Lived in a hotel for about 4 months and within the first week I was tired of eating restaurant food. And it was getting pricey. I had my Veggie Steamer and a plug in small griddle. Real food to eat.
You have to keep in mind that the steamer is kind of meant for small servings. Also, it is a steamer, that means you can't completely over stuff the vent holes on the bottom. The purpose of steaming is to let the hot moist air come up through the steam holes.
The problem with all those products is they are made of plastic.
I own, two of the soup cookers. Different brand. I use them for keeping food warm, or breaks at work. $7.00 for each. They are supper handy.
