The best retro games are the kind that take full advantage of their limitations. So many games use them as an excuse to be cheap or sloppy, but not this one.
I love that the close up sort of first person views of the demons faces is animated so smoothly, it makes those scenes stick out without straying too far from the rest of the games style. The slight change in style with them makes them feel more otherworldly

Airdorf really did do an excellent job at molding the art and sound design to feel genuinely retro, and knew the perfect times to break that immersion to maximum effectiveness for the scary parts (not to mention being just a good way to subtly denote yet hide the autosave/checkpoints). They put their whole ass into this game, and despite it not being the kind of game I usually like, I can really appreciate the craftsmanship.

So, for authenticity's sake, FAITH uses the same technique of heavily converting human speech into very compact and easy-to-read data.

Which is a lot, but there are a lot more non-Biblical demons in grimoires and demonological texts. The lo-fi aesthetic makes FAITH one of the most chilling horror games I've yet seen. And, for that matter, HEARD, since the sound design really helps inspire DREAD for what is coming next. The fact that Airdorf can inspire terror, tension and dread with an aesthetic dating back to the late 70s/early 80s is truly a feat worthy of applause. As for that dark area in Chapter 2... DIOS MIO, they make excellent use of making it so you can't see everything. It truly sells the area as being a place of true darkness, where the light of God is but a lone candle amidst the ocean of Evil.

The entirety of the letter starting at 11:17 is exceptionally unsettling. Masterful atmosphere, and great narration by Vinny. You can hear the trepidation in his voice grow by the second, with him seeming genuinely afraid when he mentions his controller. It's all just so creepy.
Man, that "Winners Don't Use Drugs"-screen at the end is so poignant on so many levels in this game's narrative. As a non-US citizen I had to look up if it was real, lo and behold.
Given the super retro style of the game, i kinda expected at some point towards the end the demon would become super gorey and high-res just to add an extra level of disturbing. Sort of like what Undertale did with the Flowey fight. The entire game is pixel-art, up until that battle where the boss is made up of an amalgamation of photoshopped, real-life images. It’s such an extreme contrast to the rest of the game, and it feeds into the feeling of that thing not belonging in this world.
Also enjoy the sparse use of music in this; especially the classical pieces converted to retro Atari-synth. The one in the forest was definitely Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven, and believe the one in the cemetery is Gnossienne 3 by Erik Satie.
I love the trope reversal in this game. Usually it's the lack of movement that is used to scare ,but when the game has this stilted atari style you see fluid movement and freaks you the fuck out.
Considering the rest of the "I have the body of a pig" youtube channel is seriously fake garbo, very doubtful it's real. That's sorta the fun of the paranormal though, is never truly knowing the line between life and fiction.

As all of chapter 2 is a dream sequence, I think the presence of the boys is just John's fear of the boys becoming possessed, like how the torch room demon says "they are mine forever" before it dies. Sets up the plot for chapter 3 being a search for them before the cult of Malphas can get to them. Also there are other references in Michael's voice lines, like Sinistar, VVitch, Shadowman and a nightmare the dev had once apparently

Given the super retro style of the game, i kinda expected at some point towards the end the demon would become super gorey and high-res just to add an extra level of disturbing. Sort of like what Undertale did with the Flowey fight. The entire game is pixel-art, up until that battle where the boss is made up of an amalgamation of photoshopped, real-life images. It’s such an extreme contrast to the rest of the game, and it feeds into the feeling of that thing not belonging in this world.
Also enjoy the sparse use of music in this; especially the classical pieces converted to retro Atari-synth. The one in the forest was definitely Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven, and believe the one in the cemetery is Gnossienne 3 by Erik Satie.

I love the trope reversal in this game. Usually it's the lack of movement that is used to scare ,but when the game has this stilted atari style you see fluid movement and freaks you the fuck out.

Considering the rest of the "I have the body of a pig" youtube channel is seriously fake garbo, very doubtful it's real. That's sorta the fun of the paranormal though, is never truly knowing the line between life and fiction.
@Mial isus It also has plot relevance as the Martin family from chapter 1 had twin boys as well as Amy. As all of chapter 2 is a dream sequence, I think the presence of the boys is just John's fear of the boys becoming possessed, like how the torch room demon says "they are mine forever" before it dies. Sets up the plot for chapter 3 being a search for them before the cult of Malphas can get to them.
Also there are other references in Michael's voice lines, like Sinistar, VVitch, Shadowman and a nightmare the dev had once apparently
