7:20 spot on. "All we're asking is the same respect" of referring to the original/primary source documents when refuting our beliefs. From what I've noticed, I don't think the SDA rumour mongers are capable of doing that. They are either too lazy and/or incompetent to actually do some meaningful research, or they're flatout liars. Either way, they miss the mark big time. What a joke.

This clipped video suggests the latter. From what I can gather, Dr O was trying to make the point that the Catholic Church is aware of the SDA church (and its beliefs), so he cited a Catholic publication. Simple. You have turned it into “look guys, he didn’t quote the Vatican. Let’s laugh and point fingers”.

Why would you clip this portion of your two hour discussion and refer to Dr O’s summary of a Catholic publication as an ‘HILARIOUS rant’, if your goal is to reach him and others lost in the SDA ‘cult’? Again, laughing and pointing fingers (over nonsense), suggests your intent isn’t as noble as you would like others to believe.
In regard to your ‘facts’ concerning leading others out of the SDA church, the Bible talks of a sifting/purifying of God’s church, so this is to be expected and would happen with or without you.

@@EarlMaphike-st5pl Earl, Keep in mind that James, as the head of the Jerusalem Church, is probably primarily writing to Jewish Christians. The context of the whole book is what it means to live by the "Law of Liberty" (James 2:12). James is arguing that you aren't truly living by this law of love if it doesn't manifest itself in the way you treat and care for others of all socio-economic levels. To illustrate his point James quotes a well known rabbinical saying that references the Mosaic law, "For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all." James 2:10. His Jewish readers would have been very familiar with this saying.
James is not suggesting that Christians are under the Mosaic Law or that perfection is required for salvation, but he does brilliantly illustrate how Christians that now live under the "law of liberty" are still called upon to live out all of the commands Jesus gave to Christians.
What I am trying to say, is that it is a bit dangerous to pull a rabbinical quote that was used for illustration out of it's quoted context and then ask how it may or may not apply to Christians. The simple answer is, it does not, it is only used to illustrate the fact that Christians are called to be totally committed to the law of love in the same way Jews were called to be totally committed to every aspect of the Mosaic law. Any other
application would put this verse at odds with the rest of the NT.
James' letter came to encourage them in the often hostile conditions in which they lived. This was perhaps the first written instruction reminding these Jews who had found the Messiah how to live as Christ-followers. He had only the law and the prophets as Scriptural references, and he used them to support the new reality in which they found themselves: no longer under the law, but required to surrender to the "royal law" of Christ.
I really like James 2:12 where he says, "Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom, because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment."
The "law that brings freedom" is not the Torah; it (including the 10 Commandments) brought death. The law that brings freedom is the royal law, "Love your neighbor as yourself" (v. 8), as Jesus made clear in his Sermon on the Mount. It is the law that can only be kept through the power of the Holy Spirit. It is the law that comes to life within the new covenant.
James is reminding these scattered Jewish believers that although they are not under the law because Jesus had fulfilled it, still they are expected to live as children of God, honoring and surrendering to Him and serving one another.

There is a chance this comment will deflate or cause a bit of disappointment. But I have to say the truth of the matter. If we are going to use SDA magazines like review and herald and such and claim that what they say mirrors Adventism, then we have to likewise agree that these Catholic materials cited in this video also reflect the Catholic ideals, and beliefs. Therefore, if we’re going to use that line of reasoning, then we have to say that what that article said does, in fact, reflect Catholic beliefs. From the Review & Herald’s own website:
“The Review and Herald Publishing Association continues to be the oldest institution of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, predating even the organization of the church itself. Our church pioneers were faced with the challenge of the best way to “herald” the wonderful Bible truths that they were “reviewing” to more and more people.”
Dr. O conflated Catholic Answers with the Vatican. And he did so to claim the Roman Catholic Church is reading Ellen White. When, no, this was a tract page on an independent Catholic apologetics organizations website which was seeking to explain to Catholics that being an Adventist is tied to being anti-Catholic. Peace and love brothers,
If I may humbly mention that the issue is when we conflagrate people and institutions. We need to steer away from putting ourselves one against one another, the true body of Christ. We need to understand that man-built structures of power, even when originated by God no matter the denomination are not infallible, and can ultimately be used by the enemy for his own end. Case and point, Jesus was killed by his own instituted religious structure. The people worshiped the religious structure and identity more than God Himself. When God showed them He was not in agreement with them. They would rather kill Him to maintain their religious identity. We're all vulnerable to that, when we lean on our own understanding. Understand dear brothers and sisters, the enemy works in subtle ways. We're not each other's enemy. An institution no matter what it is; is a non sentient entity with no loyalty, no feelings, and can be steered any direction by whoever ends up in charge. That's my humble two cents.
Blessings and love of Jesus Christ to all!
