Welcome to the Lebanese street food tour of Beirut. It was a full 14 hour day of eating incredibly delicious, and some of the most legendary street food shops in Beirut! #Lebanon #Beirut #LebaneseFood #streetfood
Thank you to USAID - My visit to Lebanon was supported by the USAID Lebanon Enterprise Development Project.

Thanks to Ibrahim Osta (Director Middle East & North Africa, Chemonics International): / ibrahim_osta / ibrahim.osta.35

Here are the restaurants and stalls we ate at during this Lebanese street food tour:
Hajj Nasr Sandwich Shop - By 6 am, when Beirut is about to wake up, Hajj Nasr is getting ready to close. We arrived at 5 am to make sure he still had food. The tebleh nayyeh - Raw meat, garlic, tomatoes, mint, and the soujouk - soujouk sausage, garlic, tomatoes, pickles - sandwiches were incredible. Total price - 15,000 LBP ($9.95)
Faysal Snack (goo.gl/maps/FidmkbQNjBDqUBxn9) - Great Lebanese pastries and breads. We ordered the halloumi loaf, plus some Man'ousheh (Manakish) topped with za'atar, and some spinach pastries. 19,000 LBP ($12.60) - Total price for everything
Hanna Mitri (goo.gl/maps/iBTb64g5qprq3z6s9) - If you mention ice cream in Beirut, this is the place that everyone knows and everyone loves - it’s a Lebanese ice cream icon, and it’s uniquely delicious from any other ice cream I’ve had in the world. It’s special without a doubt.
Al Soussi Restaurant (goo.gl/maps/acSHkHamuvaD1vNFA) - This is one of the most famous restaurants in Beirut, especially for breakfast. Their fattey and hummus is good, but nothing compares to their awarma and eggs.
Falafel Tabbara (goo.gl/maps/3bfTAT7Hitxmz3LK6) - Unique falafel - His falafel are made purely with fava beans, in a donut shape. 2,500 LBP ($1.66) - Price per sandwich
Ichkhanian Bakery (goo.gl/maps/bppJWMhBYMAfviJd6) - This is a legendary Armenian Lebanese bakery that specializes in Lahmajoun (Lahmacun) - Thin dough topped with minced meat. 9,000 LBP ($5.97) - Total price for everything
Lamb head - 15,000 LBP ($9.95) - Total price for lamb head
Makari Sweets Shop - Home of mfata’a, which is a unique and rare to find nowadays rice pudding, tahini, and turmeric pudding.
Restaurant Joseph (goo.gl/maps/6PDTiaayZ7dPD3px6) - If you’re looking for the best Lebanese shawarma in Beirut, this is the spot. The chicken was good, but the beef was the best. 6,000 LBP ($3.98) - Price per sandwich
L'abeille D'or (goo.gl/maps/SKweQNzEpERr3mVb9) - Finally, we ended this ultimate 14 hour street food tour in Beirut, Lebanon at a very non street food, gourmet Lebanese sweets shop to eat Kanafeh. But the Lebanese way, in a bun.
It was an amazing day of Lebanese food, culture, and people, in Beirut, Lebanon!

I hope that people are well and can come back stronger than before, and that Mark can come back to those places to eat your traditional Lebanese cuisine
I was in lebanon from when I was young and it was an amazing country but once I grew up older we went to America beacuase America is a really good country and we left like 2 months before coronavirus started.
ALL except the bakery destroyed? Oh my god. Gut wrenching to hear that. The people of Beirut are so friendly. The food looks gorgeous, I hope the people of Lebanon get peace.

I moved to Beirut in 1952 with my parents, and we lived on Rue Hamra. I graduated from the American Community School, in 1961 (its still in operation). I lived and worked in Lebanon (+ Saudi, Kuwait, Eqypt, Syria, etc). I loved Lebanon and the Lebanese people. Lebanese food seems to be the healthiest, freshest , cleanest food of them all. A lot of green vegetables. Definitely on my to eat list
If you write on google :top healthiest food ,they'll put isreal instead of lebanon in that list ,i just saw what they have go offer as food ,it made me angry that even our food they stole it ,they didn't even create one that respresents them !"homos with tahini" is pure syrian/lebanese ,the "mtabal batenjen(baba ganouj )" ,"the waraa arish(vine leaves with rice)"and more and more ,okay look ,we also inherited some turkish food long time ago but we say that the origin is turkish ,what made me upset is the fact that these food ain't created by isreali ,yet they say that it's their food and it's healthy ,i can say one thing ,isreal created some food and stole some food and INSISTED that's they created them ,what a bunch of lies

Seeing this brought back so many memories. With Love from India.
During all my trips from overseas - France, dubai, it was lebanese food that always saved me - travelling on a shoestring budget but wanting a wholesome tasty, meaty, hearty meal to get through the day. It was the soulful taste, and also the kind prices and the love of the simple chefs who cared to make the food tastier everytime. Even though the estaurants were small like the ones Mark visited, the people who manned it had large hearts. The lebanese restauranters cook with passion and serve with love no matter where they are in the world. They become friends right in the first visit itself, and in the second, they know what you would like and introduce you new flaovrs and serve you with care. While dining, we could rarely speak to each other in a common language - but food took care of it. Thank you Mark for celebrating lebanon.
I pray for Lebanaon. I pray you are back to your beautiful self, stronger and more loving as ever. Peace.
Heart goes out to these wonderful, generous people, so proud of their trade, so grateful for their hungry guests, caring about the food they prepare. God bless them and I wish them all the best for their future. Go visit Beirut and sample the amazing food, do this for the people of Beirut.

Most amazing thing about Lebanese food- so much variety for vegetarians as well
Yeah, it's right there with Indian food. Meat is nice, but not at all necessary for PILES of flavor. Having been a vegetarian for 14 years, I always appreciated that.
In my town in India there are several Shwarma food centers. I just love Chicken Shwarma, Falafel, Hummus. In Michigan, USA I first had Lebanese food in restaurant called 'Al Ameer'. From then I have become big fan of Lebanese food.

I love how in Lebanon almost everyone is multilingual. In schools in Lebanon, the Arabic language is the second language, and you have to choose either French to be the first and English the third or English to be the first and French the third. And in university, you can add the fourth language as an elective such s Turkish, Spanish, Italian... So the average Lebanese person can easily speak 3-4 languages. I love that.
That's not ture, the First language is always Arabic, and the second could be English or French.
@@alhh6993 We study only civics, history, and geography in Arabic. While mathematics, computer, biology, physics, and chemistry are taught in either English or French. You might feel that Arabic is a main language because in fact you need to be fluent in Arabic to understand these subjects and all students are fluent since they are Arab, but in reality the subjects that are taught in either French or English have more hours per week compared to the courses taught in Arabic. You spend more time studying, solving, analyzing, researching and reading that language than Arabic.
Moreover, the terms learned in history or geography aren’t as practical in our daily life as the vocabulary learned in mathematics or biology (numbers, measurements, geometric shapes, animals, plants, diseases, body anatomy, organ systems etc..)
Plus, in universities you only need one Arabic course throughout your major while the whole major (around 25 courses) is taught in either English or French depending on the main language that your school had.
We can say that Arabic is our primary language, and it’s mostly spoken all over the country. Now in school, we start with 2 languages Arabic, English, or Arabic, French, then we add the third language if the school we attend offers it. Anyways, we are very well educated people but politics and religion have to step down like leave the new generation build our beautiful country and rise up again 😢😔 proud Lebanese ❤️🇱🇧❤️🇱🇧👍🏻

the icecream man seemed like a genuinely great guy
Mark, it was early August when I first came to Lebanon from Norway just before the start of the semester at the AUB. Do you know what was the first place my friends took me to? The legendary ice cream place. Years after, I discovered that he was listed as one of the best ice cream maker in the world. Then while working on a project in Milan, I went to Liguria for the weekend and while being in Genoa, I went to an exhibition called Città e Mari ( Ciities and Seas), there I discovered that what we call ‘sorbet’ or sorbetto in Italian, isn’t really Italian or European, it was brought from the Arabs, and the word comes from the Arabic Sharab ( Syrup). Then I remembered the time I spent in Beirut, Lebanon and what that country and the entire region had contributed to Europe and the world ( from mathematics, science, architecture, art, astronomy and their unparalleled gastronomy: they brought pasta, pizza, rice, coffee chickpeas, pesto, pine nuts, almonds , citrus fruit to Sicily, Sardinia, Spain and Portugal. We are all connected. Greetings from Norway!
