RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA - Welcome to Riyadh, the biggest city in Saudi Arabia and home to diverse people, and some incredibly delicious food. Today I’m taking you on an ultimate local Saudi Arabian food tour of Riyadh, we’ll be eating some of the greatest dishes, food you don’t want to miss!
Here are all the locations featured in this food review:
    1. Fawal Abo Salem (goo.gl/maps/TyzPpWvigqEM5JcZ6) - We’re beginning this Saudi Arabian food tour in Riyadh with a staple breakfast - ful - mashed fava beans that likely originate in Egypt, but are widely popular throughout the entire region. Ful medames at Fawal Abo Salem for breakfast is some of the best in the entire city - and I was blown away by the quality and flavor, paired with the freshly baked bread.
    2. Camel liver - I’m not totally sure of the name of this place, but they are famous for their fried camel liver, sauteed down with onions and peppers. It’s truly tasty, right off the hot griddle with fresh bread and a dash of hot sauce.
    3. Alnaqaa Falafel & Hummus (goo.gl/maps/SzCLzQTAteZVUHc76) - To eat the best Falafel and Hummus and Riyadh, you have to go to Alnaqaa - it’s absolutely legendary, and it felt as though I was right back on the streets of Beirut. One of their specialties is a giant falafel stuffed with caramelized onions. And make sure you order the entire falafel mountain!
    4. Kebda Restaurant (goo.gl/maps/6advt5emgE6eoUfRA) - This Riyadh food tour is not complete with only camel liver - another popular liver to eat is lamb liver, and this time it’s not served on a plate, but with bread, sandwich style. Some of the tastiest lamb liver you’ll ever try!
    5. Sudah Restaurant (goo.gl/maps/FprxbXE6A4TdMmkdA) - To begin this food tour and to end this food tour, it was a privilege to spend some time at Sudah Restaurant to learn about Haneed, an Arabian food that at this restaurant originates from Aseer Province. They still make it the traditional way, loading parted out young lambs into an underground oven, layered with a specific type of hay that holds in the moisture and gives a distinct fragrance. The result is smokey lamb served over a mountain of rice, that literally melts in your mouth with the smoky fragrance of the hay. It was an unforgettable meal experience in Saudi Arabia!
And that wraps up this ultimate Saudi Arabian food tour in Riyadh, what a day of delicious food.
Thank you to Visit Saudi Arabia for arranging my food trip to Saudi Arabia!

However, you cannot figure that out in Riyadh probably because limited restaurants from that region. For example: Pakistanis love CHaplli Kabab, Karahi Gosht (in Wok), Grilled Skewer Kababs and Haleem (just to name a few). Most Indians absolutely dont eat these foods. Indians love Masala Dosa which is completely unknown in Pakistan. At Best, some curry dishes have similarity. Even Biryani is cooked very differently in three countries. I have spent time in Riyadh a bit. I preferred to eat Middle Eastern Food there

Even their fast food fried chicken AL BAIK just melts in your mouth. When in America my home country, I cook at home because dining out is just not a great experience for me (I do go to TACO TRUCKS!) Such a great episode, now I have some new places to visit in Riyadh. I agree, foul madamas and freshly baked flatbread is such a simple classic and fulfilling breakfast. People praise you for visiting the smaller establishments, but truly those are where you find the best food. Drive across the kingdom, stop at a gas station seemingly in the middle of nowhere and find the shawarma or khabsa restaurant and guaranteed you will have a good meal. I think the secret ingredient in Arabic food is the hospitality and generosity of the people.
Mark needs to return to Saudi, so many classic dishes you didn’t try, shakshooka, hashi, mandi, Hasawi rice, jareesh, …

I LOVE watching Mark eat. When you have followed his adventures for as long of a time as I have, you start to realize the small differences in his voice as he talks about his meal. He is NEVER not nice about the food or the Cook or the restaurant, etc., but you get immediately about his enjoyment....or lack of....what he is eating. "Not too spicy" means it''s OK but not the flavor he enjoys. Talking about the texture or addition of more Olive Oil or Italian sauce means something he wasn't expecting or cared about. I LOVE listening to Mark cuz I know his taste buds are usually "right on the money" as they say. I am making plans this year and into 2025 to visit areas in Pakistan and India and China.....waiting and praying the Covid Crap has airlines and hotels, etc., to fully go back to business... And believe me...Mark has been downloaded in areas I wish to visit and to EAT what he EATS and WHERE he does...and how he does it! He has worked very hard to bring us incredible food and where to find it. Thank you, Mark!
