Foxy's eyes are sensitive to light, so he keeps them closed most of the time. He tracks you using the vibrations of your footsteps, but when you stop, so does he because he can no longer follow you. He waits for you to begin walking again, but if you're still for too long, he reluctantly has to open up his eyes. One flash and he's decommissioned for a bit. But Foxy doesn't like being looked at anymore. Flash him when his eyes aren't white and he gets real mad at ya.
Too bad game mechanic wise Foxy randomly starts charging you and it also doesn't matter if you stand still. He will come to your position until he is close enough.

It's really only Bonnie that punches you (with a bare metal fist, no less). Freddy and Chica are more into strangulation, and Foxy makes quick work of ya with his hook.

Just so you know, I had to play the video at 0.25x speed to find the right frame, so try that. Also, the clock will say 9:07, when the frame I'm referencing shows up. However, if you click on 9:07, you will jist see a blank screen, so like I said, it's a few frames before that time... if that makes sence.

What makes this such a good mechanic is that rather than the player being able to fear the unknown by not seeing the threat/fleeing from it, the player is forced to actually combat the threat and face it head on rather than get away without confronting it

I find myself revisiting this video regularly, just to appreciate such phenomenal game design.
The formula is so simple. Foxy is the only threat, and is introduced immediately. In many horror games, the developers obscure the monster, to leave the player to fear what they cannot see.
This game mode turns that on its head. Foxy is in plain sight, and is a relentless, legitimate threat. Rather than being afraid of what *could* happen, the player is left with the fear of what *will* happen.
The developer of this game is truly brilliant. I'd love to see what else they have to offer.
I totally agree. What gets me the most is how he just stands there when he can’t find you, but the split second you move he instantly goes for you. He’s hunting you. That’s what’s so scary about this. It’s the fact that he’s a perfect killing machine and you’re the only prey

Since im in almost every video of the joy of creation (and the reborn part too) people can watch the video without screaming there throats off from getting scared.
this is one of the most ingenious horror designs i've ever seen. it never seems to transition out of being scary into just being frustrating because it always gives the player hope of survival. when you have hope you stay determined. and a determined player is able to be scared much more than a frustrated player. as scary as hopelessness is in real life, it generally doesnt work that well in a game since the player always has the option of just turning off the game and leaving. but a design like this prevents you from ever getting to that point of frustration and it's so cool!

I agree with@@ember_of_carnage you had an amazing explanation. A lot of games could possibly pull off a concept like this but it would take away the uniqueness and fun of the game because every game should have their own uniqueness or concept that makes it interesting to play. Its all about originality that makes a game special, and thats why it would have such an impact on you and everyone else. See thats why when people play a fnaf fan game they dont like it or is interested in it because of its concept like if you are markiplier the king of fnaf and then you go play a fan game with the same exact concept with nothing that makes that game special or different it would be boring to many, since its the same thing as fnaf.
If you hate the game look a ton of other games. They're worse than this. Frustrating is the name of FNAF. Play 50/50 mode and you'll understand

All these years later, It is terrifying to see when a giant mechanical abomination runs at supernatural speeds to hunt you down, the scratchy, robotic yet painful sounding yelp when its eyes are exposed to flashlight directly. The worst part is when you shine the light on it while its eyes are closed, they spring open, glowing a bright red, the beast releasing a scratchy, robotic, ANGRY, ROAR as it introduces you to a game called hooky.

The sounds for Joy of Creation are the best part. Freddy sounds enormous and angry, that thump Bonnie inflicts makes my bones hurt, and Foxy... Foxy's scream is shockingly violent. Such a great sound.
Anybody just watch this series over and over again just to remember the good times and entertainment we had in this time? No? Just me? Well I loved it and I’ll keep watching this series without ever getting tired of it ❤

+Cyber45 I'd say yes and no. You don't have to be looking at Foxy 24/7, and if you use the light on him too much he'll bumrush you with those red eye lights as opposed to his white eye lights. :-)

This was the best use of Foxy I've EVER seen! Nikson is doing one HELL of a job. This game is terrifying enough as it is. It would be heart attack guaranteed if it was VR. Just watching it is creepy enough.
He needs to work on the mechanics, but I can't help but agree.
I want to see this as a standalone title, away from the FNAF franchise.
It's not that the animatronics aren't scary. The franchise and it's characters have a past that is so convoluted that it distracts from the horror. Having them flat out scare for no reason is also an injustice. Granted, this is the best foxy scare yet.
At the very least, I want to see something creative. Make this some Pac-Man shiz where they all try to track you down at once. Have Foxy hide in closets, while Bonnie chases you and Chicka tries to Flank, or something like that. I haven't given it much thought, but if I had as much free time as this developer, I'd come up with some interesting stuff.
Still, just doing what he's done with Foxy to the rest of the cast is all we need. Just don't make it redundant where they all act the same, and if you are, you may as well create a new Jason type character instead of the animatronics.
Aflay I actually like the mechanics he's put out so far. However, now that I think about it, there is only one certain mechanic in the entire game, and that is for Foxy. The Flashlight. There's more time for Foxy too. I wish he would give you more time for all of them instead of having just one minute because it seems to be a little too much. You're rushed while all this stuff is going on and it could take a bit of the scare away. It could even turn the game into a rage game. But, come on, Five Nights At Freddy's has always been this way, right?? Being either douchey or sometimes too difficult to play because there was too much going on? Therefore taking the scare away over time and eventually making you enraged soon after because the game was nothing but complete madness anyway? I feel like he should create mechanics for Freddy, Bonnie, and Chica as well. He probably made one only for Foxy because he was special. He's always been most people's favorite. But, one thing that struck me as confusing, was that he released Foxy BEFORE Chica. I'm guessing she's going to be a total NIGHTMARE. She may even be the scariest and the hardest one to deal with in this game for all we know.
That idea actually sounds kinda cool. I always thought about a FNAF game like that where they were all out to get you, not just one, and you would have to think wisely as to how you would either escape or destroy them. I feel that it was in Nikson's mind at one point, but I don't know if he's ever going to decide to do it. I think it would be a great idea. Everything you said with the animatronics including Freddy just appearing out of nowhere from time to time. Maybe he would have some voice modulator as for use to tricking you into thinking he's either something good, or if it was something like the Boogeyman where if you heard him in the ventilation, you'd be in trouble if you were to walk by. I'm seeing a scene to where you're roaming in a pretty good size building/house and you're walking down long dark hallways and you almost walk into a room, but you hear Freddy, giving you the distinctive idea that if you WERE to walk in there, you'd be done for. Of course, while Bonnie is chasing you, Chica's trying to flank you, and Foxy's hiding in Closets like you said. I also feel like it would be a bit challenging though depending on how big the building is. Nikson would have to design a pretty big house in my opinion.
Yea, I totally agree, I don't want each character to be repetitive in any way. In my opinion, Foxy was the only one who was actually different from the rest. He always stalked you and charged at you randomly while Freddy and Bonnie just roamed around until they saw you. Keep Freddy the way he is, but change Bonnie y'know? Give him something unique like you did Foxy. I feel there's more work to be done to all of the characters because things don't exactly look all that finished yet. Maybe he could have Bonnie walk around a little faster and scream randomly from time to time. I don't know. But, I do love what he has done with the cast so far and I'm just really psyched for this game to be fully released either way. Scott has some pretty HARDCORE competition right now.
