    WARNING : This video was released back in september 2020, when the SC-Custom II was just released. Back the, those guitars were made in Vietnam. Now, they are made in Indonesia and it changes a lot to my opinion. I have reviewed the SC Custom II active in Decembre 2021 in a new video that I advice you should watch : ruclips.net/video/4S39skKqhso/видео.html

    My first generation sc custom vb in lefty is super heavy 5.5kg and arrived perfect even tho it was b stock ( wilkinson pickups) that I think are so much better than the Roswell pickups. I've used it gigging as a backup to my gibson les paul as it ha the split function and its held up well considering the abuse its had in that time. For me its the best guitar in the harley benton range and the apart from the TE-52. I've had 5 harley bentons sold 3 as I didn't like them im happy to keep the SC and TE-52 as backup guitars. I'd pay £20 more for better QC from thomann so we don't encounter silly problems and negative reviews

    Thx for this video! As I just purchased a Paradise Flame version of the SC Custom, I asked Thomann about the "string-issue" You mention at 12:58: This is their replay "if you buy them in the store, the different color codings have on the ballends. The strings that the manufacturer of D'Addario obtains, however, can be without colour coding, so that says nothing at all"

    • @ToroKchannel
      @ToroKchannel  3 года назад +1

      Thanks man, well that's an interesting answer. It's not the first time I order a Harley Benton guitar tat's supposed to come with Daddario strings, and every time, there were two things you could notice. First, the balls were color coded EVERY TIME. Second, it came with a Daddario Ad talking about Daddario's Players Circle. This time, there was none of these two noticeable things. Even stranger : as I mentioned in the video, Thomann's website does not mention the Daddario strings on this guitar, but since I released the video, it has disappeared from the Harley Benton website. So now, there's no more mention of Daddario strings on the SC Custom II range. My conclusion : these strings were never Daddario.

    the harley benton sc costum is litterly the best guitar in the price range. Yes, the finish specially on the bindings all arround is not good. But damn, you get a good tone, solid Wood, no Neckwarp, good frets and even a Coilsplit. The SC costum is way better then the other SCs in every way.

Now, to be completely honest with you, if I had to pick one guitar for $300 I would go for a second hand Schecter Omen. Sure you can find one easily. Just pay attention to one detail : don't get the Omen with a Floyd Rose bridge. For a beginner, floyd roses are something more to learn about and you won't use it at once.

    • @ToroKchannel
      @ToroKchannel  3 года назад +2

      Thanks :D These two guitars have a very different feel. The Sc Custom has a rather thin D shape neck, somewhere between Dean and ESP LTD. The L-1000 (or SC 1000 for the current name) has a nice rounded C shape neck, a bit thicker (23-25mm) and it's not the same feel. Now, as far as playing sitting goes, the SC 1000 is more comfortable thanks to a longer and bigger horn. But when it comes to shredding, the Custom and its no heel neck makes everything way easier. Though my friends call me a shredder, I do prefer the feel of the SC 1000, but I'm mainly using it for rhythms and massive chugs :)

      @@ToroKchannel thank you for the reply. :) I have the l-1000 /sc 1000 and it's a nice guitar to play, but only ever really playing ltd explorers before buying the sc1000, so the neck was a little thicker than I was used to. The modern D of the sc custom could be a better match for my small hands. (plus 22 frets is always a win.) I'm just torn between the sc custom active and the new ex modern Harley Benton are producing. (Although at the prices for the guitars, both may be ordered.)

They both come with Roswell LAF pickups that suit very well for rock / hard rock and heavy metal. Now, there are several differences that may help you decide : on the SC Custom, the pickups can be splited. Not on the EX-76. In terms of hardware, the EX-76 is beyond the Sc custom thanks to its graph tech nut, Xtra Jumbo frets and very good WSC bridge and tailpiece. And last point if you wanna play standing, keep in mind the EX-76 has a little neck dive. But for playing sitiing I find it more comfortable than the SC Custom II. That's all I could tell you. I Need Help! 🙏 HB SC-Custom II Vintage, ESP LTD MH-10, HB SC-DLX Gotoh or Jackson JS22 Dinky? What do you think is the best filling (wood, pickups, electronics, tuning pegs, etc.)? • @ToroKchannel
      @ToroKchannel  2 года назад

      I would wtart with romoving the Jackson JS22 from the list, it's not an intersting guitar at all. The MH 10 is a good basis for upgrades, but if you go there, better find a series 100 or 200 on the used market, the wood is better. Now, the SC Custom II or SC DLX Gotoh are very good guitars and play pretty nice. I think the Tesla pickups on the SC DLX are the same as on the Aeolus, good pickups but moderate output. If you've got a good amp and overdrive to provide enough gain that's a good choice. On the Custom II, you will have Roswell pickups that ain't bad either, and for rock / hard rock / Heavy, they're doing the job. You could also think about Schecter Omen on the used market, it's a very good guitar with pretty agressive and still versatile - cos' spltable - pickups.

      according to what I've heard, yes the SC 550 is warmer. But I have never played it so I cannot swear it will. Those LAF Alnico are an attempt at imitating Gibson's pickups so in the HB range, I assume the SC-550 would be the best choice for playing Slash's songs.

      It's hard to answer objectively cos' I love my SC 1000. But ok, this one comes with Grover tuners when the SC 1000 has cheap and not very good tuners. The Custom is very versatile when the SC 1000 is totally dedicated to metal. Now, I really think the SC 1000 is way more comfortable to play, especially sitting. The neck is excellent, and I think the reason why I love my SC 1000 is because it's a pure metal riffing machine. Everytime I see it I take it and go for some good chugs and I have tons of fun with it. So both have pros and cons, it totally depends upon what you wanna play :)

      I've had a LTD EC 1000 for a while and there are a few things in common. The body shape is pretty close, espcially the short horn on the body. But the neck shape is very different from the ESP LTD thin U. The frets on the LTD I've had are bigger, so more comfortable. If you go for an EC 401 or EC 1000, obviously you will have top of the line hardware, but on the EC-256 I don't know how good the LTD branded hardware is. Eventually, I prefer those Roswell LAF alnico pickups to the ESP designed LH-150. Clearly the SC-1000. I will forget that this SC Custom II had flaws. The SC-1000 comes with HBZ active that I find better for hi gain tones than the roswell actives featured in the SC Custom II (here's a comparison I have made : ruclips.net/video/fJlR-QPkiQw/видео.html. If you wanna change for some EMG or Seymour Duncan active, on the SC 1000 it's a simple plug-out plug-in. On the Custom II you have to change the electronics (not the hardest thing to do with the EMG Solderless kit, but if you buy some EMG used, you can easily find some with no kit for a nice price.) Finally, the playing position when sitting is better on the SC 1000 because of a longer horn, when the short horn of the Custom II makes it rip out of your lap (that's what I've notices especially on satin finishes).
