Regarding Tina Louis's complaints about being typecast: there are thousands and thousands of struggling actors out there who never even get a shot - never mind being cast in a classic TV show. She should be thankful that the worst that happened to her was being typecast.
Very good point. I am surprised Tina Louise showed as much class as she did when Dawn passed. I understand another part of her problem is that Dawn received considerably more fan mail, than she did. So it's been reported that Dawn said in later years.
Russell Johnson was always asked why he couldn't fix the boat and his answer was always "If you were stranded on a desert island with Mary Ann (and Ginger) would you fix it?"
"Could NOT do"? My god she did for me all she did and more. That is to be the fresh faced beauty of the cast that made me love her from the first time I saw this silly show . Dawn will always be my sweet heart. And sadly now she too is gone. But I will always love her for the character of Mary Ann. RIP Dawn and remember how many young hearts now old still love and remember you.
I grew up in the early 70's...I watched reruns of Gilligan's Island almost everyday on channel 11 in Dallas...And though I was only 12 years old, I was was in love with Mary Ann...I didn't like Ginger for some reason...maybe she was too fake...but Mary Ann was so cute and sweet...I am saddened of her passing...
I fell in love with dawn wells when I was just a kid she was my first celebrity crush her and lara parker from dark shadows maybe the two most beautiful woman who ever drew breath
Lara Parker was always stunning. Recall her episode of Kolchak the Night Stalker? It's "The Trevi Collection" for the curious. Dawn appeared in an episode of The Invaders also in the 60s, btw. Always seemed a truly sweet lady as well as gorgeous.
The definition of the perfect woman! Beautiful, strong and independent, charming yet humble, and I’m sorry if this sound bad, but she knew how to cook!!
People still say, "she's a Mary Ann" for beautiful girl next door. As in, friends described a girl to me back in the early 80's "you gotta see her, she's a real Mary Ann!" I did and 2 years later I married my Mary Ann.
She was definitely a favorite. As far as not being able to sing, I can definitely forgive her. And it reminds me of a story Rosemary Clooney told about the movie White Christmas. She was part of a sister act with Vera Ellen, and they danced and sang together. But Clooney, the marvelous singer, couldn't dance, so they just had her kind of walk up and down while Vera Ellen, the magnificent dancer, did all the dance moves. And Vera Ellen couldn't carry a tune, so Rosemary Clooney actually sang both parts, and Vera Ellen lip synced during the act. In any case, it doesn't matter. The entertainment all these wonderful people gave us endears them to us forever.
Tina Louise started as a stage actress. Classically trained actors are almost always aloof and think TV and movie roles are beneath them. Pernell Roberts on Bonanza and John Rhys Davies on Sliders are two examples
Dawn Wells & Heather Locklear was my all-time crush back in the days...Two of the most beautiful women in Hollywood...Oh yeah, and there was Daisy Duke (CB), Wonder Women (LC), Farrah Facett, Jaclyn Smith, Valerie Bertinelli...AAAAHHHHH.....the real beauties...
The TIna Louise contract situation is correct. It was negotiated by Tina's agents due to what they perceived was a slight is how the show was pitched to them and what they thought Tina's role was going to be.
I watched, addams family, meunsters, lost in space, star trek. Batman, ed sullivan, green acres, beverly hillbillies, jetsons, gomer pyle, and more.... the best t.v. in black and white 🎶🎸🎼.....i deam of jeannie 😎

The series idea is an americanized version of the movie: "The Amazing Crichton" (aka Paradise Lagoon) with Sally Anne Howe. That group was shipwrecked in the Caribbean on the millionaires private yacht. Since they filmed the pilot in Hawaii...the Pacific made more sense...but it is the North Pacific as it takes a lot longer than 3 hours or overnight in a storm to drift to the South Pacific from Diamondhead.
Even in her 60's she was still 🔥
I miss dawn wells...she was always a beautiful woman and wonderful actress..may God rest her soul..
There was never any contest for me between Mary Ann and Ginger. Mary Ann all day long
Dawn couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. She was great at everything else. I was very sad when she passed away. She was a wonderful woman.
She was one of the most adorable ladys of the twentieth century
She couldn't carry a tune but she sure could make my heart sing!
So cheesey! But WELL SAID!!! 👏🏻👏🏻

She was always my favorite as well. Nice tribute to Dawn!
Every little boy in America and Canada just adored that cute little Mary Ann 🥰 R I P Dawn Wells 🙏❤
Russell Johnson was always asked why he couldn't fix the boat and his answer was always "If you were stranded on a desert island with Mary Ann (and Ginger) would you fix it?"
A genuine beauty. Took my breath away.

I could always tell that Genger was a real pain. I could also tell the Dawn was a true sweetheart.

To that list, I'd add only one more name who also made my heart hurt with her stunning looks: Deanna Lund.
@@AnthonyESacco ah, yes. Deanna was gorgeous. Sadly, no longer with us, I believe.
RIGHT! Dawn Wells was "good", Lara Parker was "bad", BUT BOTH WERE "THE BEAUTIFUL!" I am SO GLAD Lara IS STILL "with us'! LUV HER!
Ann Margret in Bye Bye Birdie.
Dawn seemed like a very good hearted person 👏🙏

NOPE sounds perfect..

A perfect example of very good casting and actors who work well with eachother ...the deserved a whole lot more .

We Were Little Kids Back Then & Liked Her Better & Still Do. I Don't Know Anyone Who Liked Ginger Better. Thank You.
I miss her.
She was the best fruit on the island 🏝️
🍑 🥥
Indeed the lady was.
Dawn featured prominently in many adolescent boys dreams.
Tina Louise started as a stage actress. Classically trained actors are almost always aloof and think TV and movie roles are beneath them. Pernell Roberts on Bonanza and John Rhys Davies on Sliders are two examples
And I thought I knew everything about GI! Who knew Jackie Deshannon sang part of The Honey Bees!! A+

RIP Dawn.
When I was a kid she was my 2nd best only to Jeanie.
I will never forget the day when Dawn Wells kissed my cheek when I saw her in my hotel
My dog actually started howling during the yoko party 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂
Now THAT'S hilarious!
Must've been answering her mating call.
Your dog was howling because Yoko Ono sounded like a screeching cat. From Ms. Harper Stacey.

I like Dawn's singing voice.
We went to the same college and her face and name are all over the college. She seemed very nice.

Our trivia answer, Jackie Deshannon, was also the artist responsible for the original "Better Davis Eyes," years before the Kim Carne's version.
Um, wasn't that Betty Davis Eyes? 🤔
@@c.j.cleveland7475 no, actually. It was "Bette Davis Eyes." Darned autocorrect. (Tried to do it again just now)
@@miguelEguzman Hey, I never claimed to be able to spell! 🤦♂😁

the woman who did the Singing Voice for Dawn Wells did such a good job I honestly thought it was Dawn Wells it sounded like her.
Rest in peace, sweet princess.
She was Purrty.
Gorgeous
She took over Gilligan's island.
Hot,Hot
Ginger's Island now the rest are dead.
She was a stunning beauty
The age old question
Ginger or Mary Ann
The answers is so simple
If it’s for the night, Ginger
If it’s for a lifetime, Mary Ann
Gosh I loved her!
When asked I always responded “MaryAnn.”
Dawn Wells was so pretty!
A nummy bear.

She was gorgeous... died from Covid. wow. we're losing everybody, folks.
The girl next door. Dawn Wells and Patty Duke.
she was very very lovely
The girl next door, or I wished she was the girl next door...
Would have been neat if Annette Funicello played the voice for dawn wells...
Both of them were sweet wholesome girls. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
She could sing to me anytime . . . .
Gilligan's Island could have never happen without you the burden of a baron sand you shine like a diamond
I enjoyed this, thanks (except for that screaming banshee Yoko Ono).
She was definatly better looking, and sexier than Ginger!!
Mary Ann & Bailey. Two favorites.
YES!!!!
OTOH She can BAKE a coconut cream pie over an OPEN CAMPFIRE.; on an island that does not have COWS! Marry me Mary Ann!
Her and Barbara Eden were my childhood crushes..the very definition of a sexy and beautiful woman..
she had a part in the 1976 movie the town that dreaded sundown
Not to disparage Miss Grant, but Mary-Anne was just more beautiful in every way. A perfect specimen physically and an equally pleasing personality.
Dawn well was beautiful and stone cold fox
7:56 music to my ears 🤪
as a teen I was in love with her.
Bob was a West Virginia boy
Bob Denver didn't get along with Tina Louise. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
They didn't come any more beautiful than Dawn. You can strand me on an island with her anytime. 🤭
Thanks for the video. Lots of memories here. Mostly good, but the part with Yoko Ono made me cringe.
I had to deal with Dawn Wells in my teenage years, well her an Uhuru.
At age 50, I always thought Dawn was the better looking one.
Sure, Ginger walked around in those tight dresses all the time, but it was Mary Ann that had the guts to put on a swim suit in two different episodes.
I am a fan of Mary Ann.
Mary Ann , forever!
" WARNING: One section of this video WILL make you shudder! "
I'm sure John Lennon would disagree with you!!
. . . and then 8:10 happens -
I found Tina to be the real maroon !
did it sound like dawn?
Mary Ann hands down.
DAWN WELLS WAS A DREAM GIRL!!!
Despite her fame, Dawn Wells was a lonely woman. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
Kind of a stretch for a title, but a nice video.
Maryann So classy beautiful and sweet
It was always Maryann.....
You left out she's cuter than a puppy and a kitten trying to get in the same slipper.
I was a Dawn fan rather than Tina
With all due respect to Ginger I liked Mary Anne more.
defiantly one of her hottest picks @ 9:01. i loved that women
She was smokin’ hot.
That's a bit of understatement.
Never liked Ginger as a character, loved Mary Ann.
They were not in the South Pacific. They were in the Hawaii area.
Hawaii is in the south Pacific.
Her singing was as good as Marilyn Monroes.
Dawn and Marilyn both sing better than Yoko Ono.
@@hydrolito True.
Mary Ann looked WAY better than Daisy Duke. Short shorts should actually be called Mary Anns.
Gilligan's Island was one of the dumbest shows ever but Dawn Wells was a peach.
Donna wells is always a doll, her inability to sing didn't send her to Woodstock singing come on come on, come on.
So she couldn't sing so what she also didn't have children in real life.
I remember when I first saw the show I thought it was pretty stupid, but today I realize I was right 🤪
