Lost everything through no fault of her own and shows not a trace of bitterness. Poised, articulate, and charismatic. Wonderful as a child, wonderful now.
Shirley was just a child prodigy, absolutely genius in her dancing, the ease, the lightness of her feet, and the rhythm was impeccable, truly unique and finally a grand lady, God bless her
I think that Shirley's secret was that her personality was exactly the right one for a child star career. She enjoyed the work, loved to be in the spotlight and was energetic and bubbly enough for the long days and all the people to deal with. That combined with the huge talent she had... And then she was done, and she wanted kids and a career in the real world. So she didn't go mad, she did it right!
Shirley Temple Black even at 60 yrs of age you are still such a beautiful woman ! You have such integrity and you were such a great representative to the USA may you Rest In Peace 🙏🏼❤
Oh my goodness. I love her! She's even adorable as a full grown adult! I am glad she exercised her gifts and talents leaving behind wonderful films and music!
(guest). "Bless" RUclips for letting us see so many delightful films of the phenomenal Shirley Temple. My life has turned out rather sad, over all, (now 68, much heartbreak & loss, many years😥), but gems like these do lift your spirits ☺☺☺. Many , many thanks ☺☺☺.
So sorry for ur sadness and whatever happened that caused that. I've been through a lot myself and was molested by my parent at 5 yrs old. I think Shirley really was in denial of her abuse and minimizes it which is not good on so many levels.
Such a Lady. A Class Act. 1 of a Kind. Talented. Charming. Intelligent. Grounded. Delightful. Full of Grace. Shirley Temple Black. In her own league. Sublime Star. Beloved Always. ❤
Wow, she is such a beautiful soul. Charming, elegant poised and so warm and friendly. Her memory and talent is astonishing! What a delightful woman. She beemed love. Rest in peace
my grandma use to live on the Reservation in Palm Springs with my great grandfather, an she use to play with Shirley Temple (Shirley Black) when they were little girls.
Gosh, she aged well. She was so beautiful, and what a lovely personality. I was a bit worried the child star I admired so much when I was little would turn out to have not been a nice person in reality, but she seemed lovely.
My baby girl was born just three days before Miss Shirley died I I get so many people telling me that the baby looks so much like Miss Shirley more olive skin complected though my little one has a similar beautiful round face a cute dimple by the right side of her mouth area, she loves to jump up and down and dance and sing and what's even more cool she's only two years old and she loves watching Shirley Temple with her mommy ♡♡♡♡ I kind of like to think I have my own little reincarnation version of miss Shirley ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
Very eye opening that she tried to hide from the man producing the Baby Burlesque shows, wow! Money taken fro her was a travesty, but she is not bitter. What an amazing person! Bill Robinson and Shirley Temple did the first bi-racial dance she was such an inspiration to me!
Growing up, my favorite person was my grandmother. In the early 1960s she moved to California from Chicago and every weekend I would stay at her garden apartment. Friday nights we would watch THE SHIRLEY TEMPLE FILM FESTIVAL, quite an event hosted by the grown up Shirley herself dressed in a beautiful gown! My favorite Shirley Temple is not the little tot of her earliest films, but the more grown up child of around 12 years. My favorite ST movie from 1939 is THE LITTLE PRINCESS. It has a dramatic storyline with a heart wrenching, pull out all the stops emotionally satisfying ending to make a grown man cry. Very satisfying, with a great personal appearance by Queen Victoria herself! (O.K., I guess she's an actress.) I am further remembering that at about this time I had to stay in the hospital to have my tonsils removed. As a consolation to this event my grandmother gifted me with a soundtrack album lifting Shirley singing the songs from her old films. Which I played & played...
Her story of Arthur Freed is so disgusting & horrid, but when recounting it Shirley Temple Black deals with it in the same peppy & sunny nature that won her generations of fans. She really comes across as a wonderful & inspiring woman in this interview.
I can't believe she was robbed of all her earnings! That was not right, she had worked so hard all those years. Where did the money go? Same thing happened to Judy Garland (she had to sneek out of motels due to not being able to pay) and Mickey Rooney(he had $13,000 at his death) They didn't deserve this...they were Legends! Arthur and LB were sickos!
Martin Sage Who would do that to them? They earned that cash and Shirley was the one who fought the great depression! She never deserved that, either did they.
Wow, my earliest memory was when I was 10 months old so I was surprised to hear Shirley also had this detailed memory going back to 10 months. I could tell by her stories in her book, she had an amazing brain.
Larry didn't seem too convinced, but I knew she was telling the truth because I have a memory from around that age or possibly earlier, as well! She was extremely intelligent and such a wonderful person. RIP Shirley Temple. You were an inspiration.
Shirley Temple was the living manifestation of "classy".. I can't express what a wonderful woman she was in every way. So grateful her awesomeness was shared with, & celebrated, throughout the world. 😊
I absolutely love her, I used to watch all her movies when I was little and was so inspired to do tap. Dance was such a huge part of my life since I was three up until an injury when I was eighteen. She is such a classy lady.
I love you ! God bless you !!!! I use to see you on tv,your a great Star indeed you deserve more than you got in all aspects as a Star. you look great now.
It's amazing to me that she was able to resist what must have been endless lucrative offers to return to film or tv for over 60 years. Even Grace Kelly couldn't resist trying to come back.
I borrowed Child Star from the library. I didn't get to finish it but I got halfway through it and the half that I read was SO damn good!. There were parts in the book where I'd bust out laughing. Her humor shined through in that book. I had to wait 2 weeks before I could borrow it again but then stupid library ended up giving it away. So mad but if anyone can get their hands on it.....GET IT AND READ IT!! :)
i loved u shirley temple.. if there is 1 person on earth i would lov to meet its u shirley.. i live in nova scotia im a stroke survivor...this is part of my bucket list to meet shirley temple
If any woman could be said to be a role model for little girls it would be Shirley Temple. She was such a strong and confident child all the way to and through womanhood. The story she told about that 'cough' producer at MGM was both shocking and amazing. Shocking that it could have happened to such a big star and a great kid, but amazing that Shirley had so much self confidence that she simply brought the incident up to her mother right away on her way home, not feeling, and rightly so, the least bit ashamed of it. She really didn't seem victimized by the situation what-so-ever. Good for her.
My parents & grandparents allowed us and many times encouraged us to watch those Shirley Temple movies.Never had any disparaging remarks at all, this was in the 1970s,Black,I am,will never harm White children or children of any race. We are the Mother and Father that the Ten Commandments says honor.
Amazing she could do so much at age 5. I can only remember 3 things from when I was 5 years old (in 1963). 1). Watching Captain Kangaroo on TV. 2) A little bit of my Kindergarten class. 3) Just a little bit of when President Kennedy was assassinated, mainly because my mother was so sad. That's about all.
Thank you so much for posting this! I have seen clips of this interview, but not he whole thing. One of her best interviews. She was so funny and smart. I wish that she took up Larry King's offer to guest host the show one night. That would have been amazing.
Lost everything through no fault of her own and shows not a trace of bitterness. Poised, articulate, and charismatic. Wonderful as a child, wonderful now.
Shirley Temple died last year, I think she was 87 . She was the brightest and cutest of all childstars, and what a charming lady she was.
+Alis Buus She was 85. Amazing women! :)
She was and is still the greatest child actor that has ever lived. Class.
Shirley was just a child prodigy, absolutely genius in her dancing, the ease, the lightness of her feet, and the rhythm was impeccable, truly unique and finally a grand lady, God bless her

I can remember back when I was 4 years old. Speak for yourself Larry.p.s. R.I.P. Shirley. You were beautiful inside and out.
When I was little I was called Little Shirley Temple... She is still BEAUTIFUL ...
Gosh, she aged well. She was so beautiful, and what a lovely personality. I was a bit worried the child star I admired so much when I was little would turn out to have not been a nice person in reality, but she seemed lovely.
Total class.....unlike today's cluster of so called stars
What a charming lady!!!

she also reported sunnily that J. Edgar Hoover had "the best lap".
see, right there that should alert people! a child should not ever be sitting in the lap of grown men;Hollywood is naught but a paedophiles playground.
not all men with mustaches are pedophiles, but all pedophiles have mustaches.
What a charming woman! A true talent in every way
What a lovely lady! To of held no bitter ment toward her father.
OMG SHE'S 60 HERE?? SHE LOOKS (and sounds) SO MUCH YOUNGER!
She's beautiful
Just love Shirley Temple!!! Loved her since I was a child. What a beautiful, charming and elegant lady she turned out to be
she sounded like a great person

I agree! Judy, Mickey, and Shirley never deserved that!
Martin Sage Who would do that to them? They earned that cash and Shirley was the one who fought the great depression! She never deserved that, either did they.
+Martin Sage there were no child protection laws, and who knew anything about cds and dvds or cable back then, the law was behind the times.
Law is always behind the times. Still is nowadays with cyberbullying and outdated copyright laws.
It's 2014 now and the last time I saw personally in the late 80's.
She was truly blessed to live life and lived life to fullest.
RIP
Such a beautiful and eloquent woman is rare these days.

Classy woman.

We are the Mother and Father that the Ten Commandments says honor.
Kind of sick taking off his clothes to a 12 year old
WHAT a delightful lady. RIP Shirley.
I was a Shirley Temple look alike in the early 70's. My grandma would hang up Shirley's pics in stead of mine...
Yikes, what a bunch of pervs at MGM; thank goodness Shirley wasn't traumatized by that flasher, and that nothing worse happened to her there.
poor shirley was tossed around in Hollywood as a child, pretty sure with m.k.u until they didn't want her
how i miss her
Wow, Shirley and Gary Coleman had something in common. Parents who frittered away their personal wealth. Shameful!!
She didn't blame her father. He was in over his head and listened to inappropriate advisors.
A true lady. Remember them?
we love you shierly

One of her best interviews. She was so funny and smart.
I wish that she took up Larry King's offer to guest host the show one night. That would have been amazing.
Larry King is rude. Glad Shirley has patience.
