Bunny the secretary, the prototype Mary Anne, offers Gilligan some much needed comfort and sparks his first big idea.

Different personalities entirely. Ginger as it were is less glamorous and more abrasive and independent, she seems likely to have been at heads with the Skipper a lot though she may have listened to the Professors explanations. She seems to dislike Gilligan and sees him as just a problem. Bunny is a lot sweeter and they have kind of a good cop bad cop thing going on. This would have really changed the show.
They also seemed to have later backed off the idea that it was Gilligans fault they were all shipwrecked, and made it more vague and due to the storm. This got rid of the idea they were all resenting him for being there, which would have added a lot more tension and instead just made it entertaining.
I think the people they went with really worked well off each other and had a lot of appeal, they made the right decision with the changes.
