I watched almost every episode of Gilligans island and grew up loving All the characters in the show. I remember Mary Ann as in my own opinion, the prettiest of the two girls and who doesnt love Bob Denver? Funny, often silly, but fun to watch him do his thing. I loved watching that show!
Jonathan Harris often said that the reason he was the “special guest star” on Lost in Space even though he was signed to play a regular character was because everyone else was already signed and the billing positions were already contractually obligated. He had to be last. So he arranged for himself to be billed as he was because it would bring him greater visibility. Not quite analogous to Tina Louise’s story but similar enough. I am glad Russell Johnson and Dawn Wells ended on the opening credits. Bob Denver deserves credit for that.
A very touching story of Bob Denver watching out for Mary Ann and Professor to be billed in opening credits, and Tina helped out too! Stand up guy! I remember watching Dusty Trails show after Gilligan which included actors Bob and the Skipper. Unfortunately that show did not have the magic of Gilligan's Island. Gilligan was sometimes like watching a live action spoof of crazy inventions, like seen in the Flintstones cartoon shown introduced each week. Fun to watch.
That Bob Denver did shows what a great guy he is. However for Tina Louise to have done what she did by removing that clause from her contract, shows that Ms Louise is a classy lady. Every single actor on Gilligan's island are great actors. That is why the show can still be seen on TV, six decades later!
Tina Louise's logic does not work out. Gilligan, the Skipper too, the Millionaire & his wife - the movie star (no name given) & the rest. How is TL going to be remembered if she is the last name but has no name? The professor & Mary Ann - Mary Ann had a name but no descriptor like Gilligan. The way the song starts, it ends. Who would have thought a show done in a parking lot would be so popular. I am certain the actors did not think about continuous residuals for 10000 replays.
Since I was a little kid during all this and totally enthralled by this show, hearing behind-the-scenes stories about these people fills me with awe and feels like the first time I ever saw my 4th grade math teacher in a restaurant with a man or caught her smoking outside the school. Dawn Wells was the girlfriend every good kid was intimidated by and every bad kid secretly wished he could get.
For me Bob Denver was the main attraction of the show but at the same time it wouldn’t have been he same if any of the characters went missing. There was an intrinsic harmony and equilibrium that existed because of what every character brought to the show.

I had heard of Bob Denver standing up for Dawn Wells and Russell Johnson, only the part of Tina Louise was not mentioned. The story was a little different but the gist is the same. Hooray for Bob Denver‼️
According to Dawn Wells, he was the smartest man she ever met. He was a complete genius. I would compare this to Rowan Atkinson (genius) playing the goofy and stupid Mr. Bean.
After all I have heard about how Tina Louise hated her time with the show, tho not the people she was acting with, and felt cheated out of being its star, I think she is the one that was a stand up person in this. She could have killed the show by fighting over her contractual placement in the credits, but didn't.
It's sad how Gilligan's Island really did tremendous damage to Tina Louise's career. She even knew that at the time but fulfilled her obligation. The show wouldn't have survived if Ginger was killed off or recast. That is class.
Something like that happened in Friends too. They were not all going to get paid the same amount of money. So they got together as a group and stayed loyal to each other and demanded that every single person get the same amount of money that’s how they were able to get that big payday at the end good for them!
GI paid the stars $700-1200 per week. Changing the wording of the theme song was only a good will gesture with zero financial benefit. Dawn Wells died broke and needed a Go Fund Me for her medical bills. ‘Friends’ cast members got $1,000,000 PER EPISODE. Not exactly the same situation.
I remember Bob was smoking cannabis back then, years later he became an activist. We use to get high, red bud, Acapulco gold, Columbia and watch Gilligan's Island and the Munsters laughing.
Fun Fact: In the original "unaired" pilot(in quotes because it's all over RUclips and was shown during a Gilligan's Island marathon), the theme song had a Calypso sound and was written by none other than John Williams. Another Fun Fact: The band that sang the Gilligan's Island theme was a group called The Wellington's. We know them from the show as The Mosquitos.
One obvious question that wasn't answered: Was Tina Louise asked if she wouldn't mind changing the contract?? If not, why not just ask her first before going to all the trouble of hiring song writers, presenting the new song, having it turned down, Bob saying he wanted his name to go last, etc.?? I'm wondering if either they knew she wouldn't agree to it right away or if Sherwood was against it for some other reason. That would be interesting to know. Loving your videos!
Being billed last can actually be a good thing if you're billed as, "Also Starring As..." or "And... As." Tom Bosley on Happy Days, Ann B. Davis on The Brady Bunch are both examples that the extra acknowledgement of an "And...as" suggests that they're considered a high-ranking star in the show as opposed to a lesser player. Jim Backus was a big name and was billed as "Also Starring..." and Tina Louise shows up as "AND Also Starring..."
"...There are TWO Versions..." EEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRP Nope, THERE ARE THREE VERSIONS, or did you FORGET about the Version from the PILOT that was more Calypsoesque. then the OTHER Two Renditions.
A very uplifting story I forgot to tell you in my last comment but four-star studios was half a mile from my house when I was growing up in studio city and I played Little League over on Moorpark Street between Laurel Canyon and Colfax and Alan Hale Junior used to come by and watch our games. The problem wasn't Tina, the problem was Schwartz. Maybe he was afraid if he gave Wells and Johnson (already two accomplished film and television actors) screen credit he would have to pay them more $$$. Schwartz wound up making millions in syndicated re-run residuals while the cast got s***. Wasn't a generous man. Fun facts: Schwartz got Gilligan's name out of a phone book. Gilligan was also the only character in the show with NO first name (it was said that Schwartz intended it to be "Willy," but it was never used). Though Denver always claimed "Gilligan" was his character's first name, Gilligan is a surname of Irish origin.

I grew up being told Tina was a bi***. But after this and a few others, I know she wasn't, she was just mad at being lied to.
Very cool
According to the unreleased pilot episode transcripts, Gilligan's name was Willie Gilligan.
Willy
He died young (70). He could still be here with us!
Never heard anything horrible about Bob Denver. Always seemed like a good guy. A good friend you could talk with.
According to Dawn Wells, he was the smartest man she ever met. He was a complete genius.
I would compare this to Rowan Atkinson (genius) playing the goofy and stupid Mr. Bean.
Wasn't he married 3-4 times? You might want to check with his ex's on that.
Well, he "stood up" for Dawn Wells. I have to admit, as a young man, I did too.
They where great my God Bless them all.
What a class act
Something like that happened in Friends too. They were not all going to get paid the same amount of money. So they got together as a group and stayed loyal to each other and demanded that every single person get the same amount of money that’s how they were able to get that big payday at the end good for them!
GI paid the stars $700-1200 per week. Changing the wording of the theme song was only a good will gesture with zero financial benefit. Dawn Wells died broke and needed a Go Fund Me for her medical bills. ‘Friends’ cast members got $1,000,000 PER EPISODE. Not exactly the same situation.
Hahaha you sounded like Bob Denver when you sang the Gilligan's Island song
Class act by Bob.
Sing it boy!!
🤣
I remember Bob was smoking cannabis back then, years later he became an activist. We use to get high, red bud, Acapulco gold, Columbia and watch Gilligan's Island and the Munsters laughing.
love the singing
Fun Fact: In the original "unaired" pilot(in quotes because it's all over RUclips and was shown during a Gilligan's Island marathon), the theme song had a Calypso sound and was written by none other than John Williams. Another Fun Fact: The band that sang the Gilligan's Island theme was a group called The Wellington's. We know them from the show as The Mosquitos.

Please I Beg You on bended Knee No More Singing!
🤣🤣🤣
I was thinking the same thing. lol
Oh, stop. It was fine. Let's hear YOU sing. Have a chill pill.
@@CoolClassics You're ok , It's a lot better than what I could have done .
😂😂😂
Dawn Wells is simply DARLING!

Sad they all passed. I think Tina Louise only one left.
They haven’t all passed. Tina Louise is very much alive
Another great one.
Wow!!! Bob Denver!! Now THERE was a REAL human(e) being!!! :) :) :) :)
That was an interesting tid-bit. Smart man. Since the show was named around Bob, he held cards.
Barry
Beautiful
damn. can't believe bob pulled a move like that. way to go! what's right is right.
way awesome, just last night the song came to mind the second version is the one I had known. either way. miss them.
They also may sound alike but were sang by two different bands .
Read bobs book. Super nice, honest guy.
I remember Russel Johnson he played a very small part in: The Greatest Story Ever Told. The Movie of Christ Jesus.
Cool story
Everybody loves Maryanne
💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
I did notice how "the Professor and Mary-Ann" part sounds a little different from the rest of the song
It was re-recorded. New song. New band.
Sherman Schwartz should be ashamed if he is still alive. Very infuriating! At least they had Bob Denver to stand up to him.
Interesting story. You find out who has some real integrity when they’re willing to put their all on the line for what they believe is right.
Wow....didn't know that. I don't think that anyone would put themselves on the line for others like that today.
Have you done an episode on Bob Denver? I can't see one when I search your channel.
Not yet, I got preoccupied jumping between Gilligan's Island, The Beverly Hillbillies and Hogan's Heroes :)
"...There are TWO Versions..." EEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRP Nope, THERE ARE THREE VERSIONS, or did you FORGET about the Version from the PILOT that was more Calypsoesque. then the OTHER Two Renditions.
It wasn't the Lucy show with out Lucy and it's not Gilligans Island with out Bob Denver. Grew up with the best era in television the 60's and 70s.
Thats a good way for them to work together.
A very uplifting story I forgot to tell you in my last comment but four-star studios was half a mile from my house when I was growing up in studio city and I played Little League over on Moorpark Street between Laurel Canyon and Colfax and Alan Hale Junior used to come by and watch our games. My uncle Richard was a key grip on the show.
Very Cool! Wish i could have visited the studios back in the day!
Thanks for sharing!!
@@CoolClassics I also had a paper out in the studio city area and the gentleman that starred in Mr. Ed was one of the people on my route his name was Allen something or other I can’t remember he was a real nice man and because my uncle was a key grip a he worked a lot of shows over there so one of the shows he worked on was combat so I got to see combat being filmed on the site it’s actually pretty boring
LIked and subbed :)
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Whenever I hear about Sherwood Schwartz I hear him acting like a greedy putz.
He let money become his legacy.
It's sad that we will never know how Dawn Wells really died. She deserved so much better.
Complications from COVID-19. But it doesn’t matter what or how...she’s gone. ;-(

Bob "Gigachad" Denver
Nice to know HOLLYWOOD wasn't always so self absorbed.
