Here's the Unbelievable ACT Gilligan (Bob Denver) DID That FOREVER Changed Gilligan's Island!
Correction: According to Denver, he did not threaten to quit the show outright. He did request and require his billing be moved last or else....the suits said no but agreed to credit Dawn and Russell.

Robin Hood Who? Denver’s fellow actors/actresses. He threatened to leave the show unless they rewrote the Opening Theme Song to include The Professor and Mary Ann. In today’s “Me” focused stars, this was unheard of. The almighty dollar wasn’t more important than the people he worked with. Dawn Wells was the only one smart enough to write residuals into her contract and being the show’s long rerun/syndication, her bank account has been well rewarded for her foresight.

The way I heard it was that the studio didnt want to make the change due to cost. His contract said that Bob being the star could say where his name went on the billing. So Bob said he wanted his name at the end of the credits which would have forced them to change it anyways so they did the right thing and included Mary Ann and the Prof. Bob was a stand-up guy whichever way it was.

That was in the TV-Movie about the show. Besides Bob getting this done for his friends and castmates, I loved seeing the recreation of the theme recording in the studio.
Rick, two suggestions: 1 - Is there any info about what they would have done had Tina not returned for an S4? 2 - How about an episode speculating on what happened to the Castaway Impostors? For example, I imagine Eva Grubb got exposed as a phony at some point.

@@dansotelo228 I watched The Golden Girls on occasion, but mostly I watched shows like Taxi, Cheers, Green Acres, Bewitched, etc. I absolutely loved MASH, and still do. After the 80s I pretty much quit watching regular TV. As far as cable goes, I love the History Channel, The Discovery Channel, SCiFi Channel, and Turner Classic Movies. Don't much care for HBO or Showtime, etc. Back in the 70s, we used to sit down every Sunday evening and watch The Wide World of Disney on NBC. Good wholesome family movies. :) A winner every time. Don't at all like the Disney Channel that it is now.

@@Greye13 Yup, pretty much the same here. I'm sure you were a Johnny Carson regular. True story... One night in my teens (1975), I had the house to myself self and 4 of my friends came over with some beer and etc, to watch Johnny Carson. Of course, we had one friend who hated Johnny who was whining and complaining to watch something else. We all voted to watch Johnny and that was that..! He said "I hope something really bad happens so that TV will go dead". We just laughed and he had no choice but to sit down and shut it.
Just as Johnny's opening music started playing we heard a car with its engine and tires screaming down our winding road, !!!!AND BANG!!!! Our house just shook violently and the power went out. All you heard in the darkness was our friend laughing!
Turns out a car hit the power pole across the street at over 80 miles per hour instantly killing the driver. It was later determined the driver committed suicide.
Needless to say, we never again invited the one friend to join us to watch Johnny Carson.

I admire Bob Denver for standing up for his cast mates. It was very noble and honorable of him. I had the privilege of meeting him once, when I was in high school, when the show had already been off air for a few years. He was a very warm, welcoming, kind, and genuine man. I totally agree that it was very Noble of him to do that and awesome that he did do that! I also think that what was wonderful of him to do that it should also that he was a humble person even though he had hit it big. A lot of people don't realize that he had quite a bit of notoriety in his own right from other shows he had actually done previous to Gilligan Island. He actually had been on other shows before Gilligan's Island but became synonymous with Gilligan's Island and whenever you hear his name you only think of Gilligan's Island. Think of any of his previous shows you don't think of movies that he had been in, you don't even think of any voice over work yet actually done. He even had done I'm quite a bit of voiceover work for cartoons where he played Gilligan for Cameo spots and cartoons as Gilligan. In reality if he wanted to he really didn't have to work anymore for the rest of his life if he didn't want to he was pretty set but I think it's wonderful that he was still humble next person not to let his celebrity go to his head and say you know I'm just a big shot here my name should be first because it's the name on the show and no one knows who Marianne feceras and they're not important and they shouldn't even be mentioned at all whatsoever. Some people would have done that but he didn't and that's what makes him such a wonderful person that people want to know would like to know and when they do know them know him like him.

This is one of the many things I love about Bob Denver.
From Wikipedia: 'In 1971, Denver was arrested for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in his car and pleaded no contest for a reduced sentence of a $250 fine.[3]In 1998, he was arrested for marijuana delivered to his home, originally saying that the delivery came from Dawn Wells who played Mary Ann on Gilligan's Island, but he later refused to name her in court, testifying that "some crazy fan must have sent it." He pleaded no contest and received six months probation.'
