I think Bob Denver was genuinely nice. I chatted with him through email 5 years before he passed away. I was surprised he was chatting with people but he did. After that I always thought of him as a caring person.
Thanks for sharing. I was going to ask because based on some descriptions I was left with the impression he didn’t like talking about the show. I went to a Star trek convention and heard the actor who played “Q” speak and he was a “you know what”. He obviously did not want to be there, but apparently needed the money.
I emailed him a few times years ago about an autographed picture. He was very friendly and patient. Everything I ever read about him said he was very considerate of other people.
They used that a lot in the black and white days...like when Little Ricky played in John Wayne's footprints. Bob Denver was very kind to his fellow cast members. Thanks Rick, stay healthy.
So Bob Denver must have had soft skin after that oatmeal treatment 😆 Glad to learn he was a genuinely nice, selfless person. We need a lot more of this today.
I can remember running home from elementary school to watch this great show. I was always puzzled how villains and other characters could find this little “lost” island but the Coast Guard couldn’t!
I always loved Gilligan's Island. It was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid. Bob Denver just seemed like a very nice down to earth person. Gilligan, the Skipper, and the Professor were among my favorites on the show. Thank you Rick for covering this series.
Thank you for covering these classic shows. Gilligan was my after school show for years. Still gives me a good feeling and takes me back to those days when I hear that music and see the shows opening segment.
"He had the time of his life sliding into lagoon" you say. He got paid for it, I wish I got paid for all the things I do like this. This is meant in only the nicest way. It doesn't change the fact a Stuntman should be paid whether they use the footage or not.
I used to be on the message boards when the TV Land had them and people that were on multiple show boards as well as the Gilligan's Island board and they said Bob Denver would show up from time to time and he was quite nice!
Bob Denver is so nice.. I've heard several stories of him.. His sincerity and kindness and thoughtfulness towards others... It doesn't surprise me that he gave work to a Stunt man so another actor could be paid.. The fact that Bob Denver was also humble about his acts of kindnesses is priceless and beautiful !!
When I was a little girl, I wanted to marry Gilligan. I remember watching Gilligan”s Island at my Grandma’s house while eating peanut butter & crackers , sitting on the floor in front of the tv. I still love this show .❤️ I don’t remember this episode . Can you tell me the titile please? Thank you 😃
Miss Jenny's Cleaning Maryann is that you ? Sadly Bob Denver Passed away years ago. I think Maryann & Ginger are the only members of the cast now. There is a really good video of the cast reuniting on a tv show . If I can find it I will post the link.😃
No change whatsoever, ... This is classic Bob, he was always thinking of including or helping others on the set. It is sure neat have this story made public though👍.
I remember in the early nineties being invited to a party through some friends in West Virginia and it ended up being Bob Denver's house and we had numerous drinks I brought up some Gilligan's island things he came out with some hat signed it for me and I still have that hat today.....
Burt Lancaster did something like that with stuntmen as well. He liked to do his own stunts on movies. But he would pay the stuntman out of his own pocket so the stuntman would still get paid.
Joan Collins never did her own stunts because she said "it takes money away from stunt workers", and she didn't want to do that, basically the same thing Bob Denver was doing.
Thank you Rick for all you do to bring back these wonderful memories of my youth! I really enjoy your channel and applaud you for your positive and loving attitude to your viewers, like Bob Denver you are a good and caring soul, please never change!
Bob also insisted that the lyrics in the opening theme be changed to specifically mention the Professor and Mary Ann. They didn't learn this until years after the fact.
I can vaguely remember when Bob Denver was on The Howard Stern Show. Denver just sat there during the most insane crap that Howard could throw at him, with a calm, huge smile on his face. Denver looked like he was having the time of his life, and never wanted to leave. Denver seemed like the nicest person ever.
I remember when I was 10 years old, I had a little kiddie crush on Bob Denver. But I also remember the kids in my class that I considered 'friends' always used to tell me how ugly they thought he was. That used to hurt my feelings so much, because I thought he was handsome. Nice to know he was such a humble person, and very intelligent. He's the one that inspired what I like to call "the Gilligan Effect". That's what I call it when common people cannot look past the characters a celebrity plays on TV and movies and see them as real people who are just like everybody else. That's what I encountered with those "friends" from school.
Hello Rick. As a child growing up in the 1960s, we did watch a lot of TV mostly at night or Saturday mornings. Gilligans Isle was one of my Dad and I's favorite. Thank you for bringing these wonderful back stories. I will be watching more of these now as it brings me back to calmer time in my life. I just lost my Dad in February so I will be watching your channel more. Have you done anything with "F Troop"? My Dad was a professional Thoroughbred Jockey from 1949 - 2000. He was friends with Forest Tucker and Bob Steele, two of the actors on the set. Ray York was my Dad. Look him up on Wikipedia just for fun. Love you Rick and thank you for all you do for us. May we all get through this soon. Jeff from Las Vegas, Nevada.
Great video and great encouraging words at the end! Thank you for those. Bob Denver seemed like a class act! The part about the oatmeal was way cool to know. Love behind the scenes trivia!
Enjoyed the information on the video. Seems like Bob was always a really nice guy who tried to do good things for folks whenever possible. We need more of that today.
I remember as a boy of about 11 years old we went on the Universal Studios Tram tour in the 60's. The Tram operator mentioned that the Lagoon in Gilligan's Island was very nasty stagnant water. He said the cast hated having to go into the lagoon.
A cool little bit of trivia... "the Skipper" is actually in a music video by an 80s Canadian rock band named Platinum Blond. The whole thing was just a happy coincidence too. While shooting them walking around Hollywood for their song Somebody Somewhere, they just happened to run into him while he (Skipper) was just walking along. It's only very brief, but has been confirmed by the band in an interview.
Never got to meet him but a friend did. He was a descent guy from what was told. My friend used to do Gilligan's voice and showed dressed as him. Bob thought he was pretty good too..and Joey even got him to laugh.
Thank you for a very entertaining and informative video. I enjoyed this video and would like to see more like this. Your videos are a special treat and your positive closing words gave me a boost in these worrisome times. Keep up the excellent work.
Doesn't change my opinion of Bob in the least. Only affirms what I knew about him many decades ago, that he was a kind, generous, smart and thoughtful man.
Neat video, Rick. I like Gilligan's island a lot. Neat about Bob Denver. There was another episode. Where he wore glow in the dark stuff on him! I wonder what that was made of in real life. Might do a video about that. I saw Alan Hale, JR. In an unusual role on a Clint Eastwood Western. "Hang em High" He played a blacksmith in a lynch mob. Good actor. He looked about the same age too. Take care.
I was previously kind of annoyed by Gilligan but it's been a very very long time since I saw the show. These videos about Bob Denver really make me wanna go and watch Gilligan's island!
I always rooted for Gilligan to be the hero and get the castaways off the island but knew when they got off the show would be over. I heard he was a great guy to work with, and looked out for others.
It sounds like Bob Denver was a true humanitarian! He was a good man. Oatmeal, wow, I didn't know that, just that it wasn't real mud! Thanks once again Rick for another fun video! 🙂
I love these behind the scenes information. By any chance would you have any information on the colored foods that looked like play-doh cubes on Star Trek TOS?
What a great guy he was . Interesting video ....love your videos. I was wondering if you ever do any that are not comedies? My all time favorite series from that time was Man from Uncle. Would you ever consider doing a video or videos about that show?? I know it still has a LOT of fans.
This behavior of Bob Denver doesn’t surprise me at all. I have never heard anything bad about this actor. His willingness to allow another person to earn a paycheck sounds just like I believe he would be. Very generous human being. I know people who should learn from his behaviors. Good man
I remember the show when it was first on television and I bought the series on DVD at a great price. It even came with the pilot episode too. Too bad Bob Denver (nice guy) passed away at 70 years of age from medical conditions.
Every time when I watched that episode, I thought that was real mud Gilligan fell into I didn't know it was really oatmeal. In the episode "High Man on the Totem Pole" was that real mud Ginger (Tina Louise) and Mary Ann (Dawn Wells) was in or was it something else.
So, essentially, Gilligan landed in a big bowl of chocolate cereal. Hey, I'd like to be paid to do that, too! Bob Denver seems to have been a very good-hearted guy.
Met Bob Denver in 1995 as I recall, at a boat show. Smart guy, and a real gentleman. Great vid! 👍👍👍👍
I think Bob Denver was genuinely nice. I chatted with him through email 5 years before he passed away. I was surprised he was chatting with people but he did. After that I always thought of him as a caring person.

He was a one of a kind guy, Hollywood could use more celebrities like Bob Denver.
I emailed him a few times years ago about an autographed picture. He was very friendly and patient. Everything I ever read about him said he was very considerate of other people.
I’ve never heard anything negative about Bob,so it only afirmes what I believed,a nice guy with a big heart.

Thank you for covering these classic shows. Gilligan was my after school show for years. Still gives me a good feeling and takes me back to those days when I hear that music and see the shows opening segment.
Never knew that about Bob Denver! What a super cool guy!!!❤❤
I am loving these little snips... Oatmeal! Wow!
How very thoughtful of him.
He had the time of his life sliding into lagoon.
Great Guy 😘
Still remember him as the hippie on Dobie Gillis 💕
Beatnik. They were hippies, before there were hippies. Maynard was cool.....

Bob was Gilligan and GILLIGAN was Bob. Meaning a sweet fellow that you'd be proud to have as your friend. He'd have YOUR back and you'd have HIS.
Awesome vid! Have you ever considered doing a few videos on the old TV show Emergency with Randolph Mantooh and Kevin Tighe?
Never got to meet him but a friend did. He was a descent guy from what was told. My friend used to do Gilligan's voice and showed dressed as him. Bob thought he was pretty good too..and Joey even got him to laugh.

My perception of him stays the same I think he was a very nice person. Really enjoy hearing little known facts about my favorite actors. 😁
Bob Denver was born in my hometown, New Rochelle, NY.
Dennis Miller. Probably not from SNL. Gilligan! ... What a trooper.
Ricky Rick rickster. U got da funk!
That’s really interesting. I knew for sure that was mud! Ha!!
Oatmeal used for mud, just like Mashed Potatoes was used for ice cream.

Again, great information about Gilligan's Island and Bob Denver. Wasn't Dennis Miller a two time guest star on GI?
Martin Beneteau No. not Dennis Miller the comedian and tv host. A different person named Denny Miller. Not the same person.
🙏 Rest In Peace 🙏
I heard Bob was a nice guy and this is just one of the examples that proves it. 😊
The best character in this sit com!
Remember women's mud wrestling in the 70’s? I heard they used cake mix for the mud.
Bob Denver was a cool guy
No change...it only confirms what we already knew about him.
