I saw Duffy play one time. It was enough for me to see someone so committed to drumming, that I was right in my dream. A monster drummer and dreamer...His joy of playing this instrument became mine.. RIP Duffy...You're a killer!
As a drummer and drumming instructor, I just think that Duffy played that so wonderfully. He just fired up the band... such hipness and musicality. Tremendous.
It's funny you should mention Monty Alexander. One of the times I saw Monty was in South Florida at a jazz club way back when. Monty sat in with Chubby and Duffy. Maybe the best jazz set I've ever been present at. Monty is a beast on piano.
What tasteful drumming by Duffy Jackson! He really is one of my favorite big band drummers & someone I recommend we can all listen to, enjoy & learn from. Thanks for posting.
Buddy Swings his butt off!!! We had the pleasure of meeting him in Nashville recently at Rudy’s Jazz Room. He is the nicest man! I wish I could post my picture with him here!
On the contrary, the double-time lines were clean and very clear. The entire solo showed an excellent understanding of the tune, chord progression, and the recorded history of this arrangement.
Increible y perfecta interpretacion de mr Jackson acorde con su increible carrera.. Un baterista que tiene que ser estudiado al nivel de los grandes Krupa o el mismisimo Buddy..dinamicas precision y efectividad en los solos .. Gracias Duffy !!! Los bateros del mundo te extrañamos!!
Duffy got me "into" jazz back at the pbcc jazz camp in south Florida. This makes me happy! Also, tasty trumpet solo!!! Duffy can sure kick a band with dynamics!!!
Duffy could also play jazz piano and upright bass. There are recordings but he only gave them out to his jazz improv students. As far as I know. I've heard fragments and he was the real deal on piano.
Bandsounds great, but trumpet player you started out fine with clear articulation then some fast runs that could not be clearly understood. You must be playing a fast valve Bach Stradivarius which tempts fast runs. Listen to old Giants like Buck Clayton,Harry Sweets Edison and Roy Eldridge and Harry James for big band solos. Otherwise you did good.
When I was a kid, Harry James told me when taking a solo, "know how your going to start and end your solo before you start. Then fill the solo with 2 and 4 bar phrases."
Monty Alexander said it best: "Duffy Jackson is one of the world's most underrated drummers."
Duffy was just one of those guys that had it.
for sure

Great musicians playing a lovely melody what an utter delight .
Indeed!
How beautiful to watch the happiness and vibration of this drummer !
Yes, he has a powerful vibration
I love it when young people keep up with jazz. It would be a crime for that genre to disappear.
Unlikely it will ever disappear. As Sonny Rollins say, you can't kill a spirit.
I have seen Duffy several times at the Nairn Jazz Festival and what a drummer and entertainer! Fantastic! Such skills and funny! Sadly now RIP.
RIP Duffy , You Played Perfection
I remember him well from the Sammy Davis, Jr. show that was on TV from '74 - '76. He was a true beast back then!
This is exactly how a drummer should play. Wow!
Nice trumpet solo! Duffy was a class act!
He loved the drums.
Wonderful Duffy !! RIP !
The drummer is putting his heart & soul into playing! Kudos man. NICE kicks! Way to lead the band Duffy!
Love Duffy. What a great musician. Great great great.
Duffy is one of my preferred big band drummers... technique, swing, impetus, all there... thanks, Bret!
Wonderful solo.
That band really swings. Trumpet solo was good. To swing a band just using brushes is just great.
Man, what a great entertainer. And beneath the fun, there's some serious skill. Whoever this guy is, props. 💯🥁🎶
Check out this film, which features Duffy: ruclips.net/video/neKnn_gfWH8/видео.html

Duffy's cool. His open mouth is unique..

Yes. He was a guest at our jazz festival and played bass and piano during the concert. That cat could swing!
Duffy swings just right
This is how it's done on drums , folks
Exactly, Charles!
2020.. where is Darren English? And..... did he do some circular breathing?
El trompetista entró adelantado
