Basie always had spectacular drummers. Always the very best !!
If you had to name the top ten drummers of all time Duffy would be right up there! he's amazing!
RIP Duffy, thanks for the inspirational playing. A ball of fire. Godspeed!
My great friend, DUFFY JACKSON, was absolutely superb on this performance!!! He always plays on that level.
Rip.Duffy
You guys will have some orchestra up there in the stars 🌟
I don't really know this music, but I'm a convert. What an act! What a drummer!
Duffy didn't just play music, he was music!
This band always had top drummers.
and Top every instrumentalist on Every instrument
Just saw this monster drummer playing with an organ trio last night here in Nashville. Some 17 years have passed since this Basie video was made, and Duffy still stole last night's show with his amazing technique, tremendous sense of dynamics, and irresistable charm.
Duffy was playing professionally by the time I met him in high school, Miami Beach Senior High. He loved playing as part of the famous "Beach Bagel Band" up in the stands at baseball stadiums all around the county AND to the state tournament in Orlando. I just spent time with him accepting a lifetime jazz award. He even played that night! (He always sweats a ton!) He's still as fast and technically superb as ever.
Duffy's great. Basie himself is irreplaceable.
Duffy is playing cadences and phrases - an orchestra of percussions!
Heard Duffy in 1975 with Monty Alexander--hardest swinging night in my life, and Monty's discipline kept the young drummer (then a teen-ager) in the pocket.
In the 1980`s i got to see Duffy a lot in Ft.lauderdale.On sunday he played with Eddie Higgins,Don Coffman and Pet Minger at a club named Penguin`s.That was some of the best jazz i`v seen in my 86 years.
FT
DUFFY!!!......5 Stars..........Monster drummer
What a strong, beautiful sounding screaming High F# from the Lead Trumpet Player, Mike Williams at the end. Perfect attack with that great sound sustained right through the cutoff. That's how it's done!
Duffy was what i call a 'super talent'! r.i.p.
Me too
Duffy Jackson is the son of the great Chubby Jackson, he was performing at a young age. A tremendous drummer indeed.
Duffy is killing it on what appear to be Stingray fiberglass drums.
The title of the tune is Whirly Bird, the drum feature in the Basie band, performed masterfully here by Duffy Jackson. Some great drummers spotlighted on this tune like Sonny, Rufus, Harold and Butch Miles being my favorite.
RIP Duffy Jackson
Always thought it was called " Whirlybird "
AMAAAZING !! hahaha Duffy Jackson 👍👍👍👍👍 not only Buddy Rich was Great !
Cleaveland Eaton on bass
Always one of my fave Neal Hefti charts for Count Basie. My favorite with Basie was Sonny Payne on drums, Harold Jones and Duffy!
please don't forget Frank Foster on tenro sax !
Duffy is the one keeping this together. The "time" is all over the place. Might have to do with the outdoor venue. Still, the original Basie band was far tighter. And I saw that band in outdoor venues. Bravo to Duffy, though, he's the hero of this one. Frank Foster plays an excellent solo, too, as always.
Cleve was driving in my view.
How come I never knew of this guy?...............Wow!
Now you have !
@@domenicv7962 Lol, six years ago.
And dont forget BUTCH MILES drummer man. 🥁🌟🇺🇲
Butch Miles had the chops... right up there with Buddy!
Francamente falando, é algo assim sublime!!!
Almost unreal watching that.
Who is that terrific bass player? looks very familiar
Cleveland Eaton is playing bass
Count Basie and Duke Ellington could certainly find great drummers.
They play very intense! Drummers got to have the power to swing hard!
I've felt for many decades that drummers work harder than bass players. I always appreciated their contribution, always.
and some with both bands
Amen to duffy!
Go Duff ! The machine :)
WOW
More guitar in the mix please.
incredible drummer and happy men god protect you soul and space time bless
すげぇー!😅
Duffy Jackson !
Mr. Incredible (the Cartoon movie) on drums!
Duffy Jackson!!!
This band is op
I actually expected the drummer's head to come flying off his neck.
Whirly
Playing 100 miles an hours for 12 minutes and then the drummer has to "take it man."
What drums was he using here..?
Loud ones!
Pearl drums.
The chart is Whirlybird. Are you dense?
any one know who's on piano, and bass here?
Who is on Piano?
Pianist is Carl "Ace" Carter
What brand of of drums are these.
A heart attack waiting to happen..😩
He certainly burns of calories !!
You’re an ass, people like you make me so sad. Too many bullies in our world.
You’re just a laugh-a-minute aren’t ya!?!?
Never seems to burn off calories.
Roy Beckerman never mind.
.it's his great ability behind the drums is what counts.
Dumb comment
You’re a rectum. Some people just can’t lose the weight.
Those are Impact Drums. Fiberglass drums. company didn't last long.
They were made in Florida, right? Then, not too long after Impact folded, another fiberglass shell drum company in Florida emerged, StingRay Drums. The late Butch Trucks played them for awhile. Duffy can make ANY brand of drums sing! I would've loved to see what kind of shape his drum heads were in after this performance. Especially his bass drum head. Holy Cow!
Sonny Payne or Rufus Jones for this tune. Nobody else
Duffy didn’t cut for you? There were several really great BC drummers, in fact, they were all fantastic, including Mr. Duffy Jackson, RIP. I am a pro drummer and I give his performance two thumbs up. A little bit wilder and more intense than some of the other guys, but fantastic nonetheless and Duffy was a real crowd pleaser too. What’s wrong with a little entertainment? As long as it’s musical, who cares?

I had a drum teacher who was quite heavy. He dropped dead playing a gig in Jersey. This guy looked like a heart attack waiting to happen.
Very stupid comment. Why can’t you be positive or just don’t say anything. So sick of ass holes.
@@drummerchappell Reality isn't your gig huh?
@@edrodrigues3939 Unfortunately reality can be a very sad gig to play, with many cold hearted people. Luckily that’s not always the case.
@@edrodrigues3939good one LOL

Always one of my fave Neal Hefti charts for Count Basie. My favorite with Basie was Sonny Payne on drums, Harold Jones and Duffy!
NOPE........Speedy Jones
@@domenicv7962Harold Jones played drums for Basie as well.
@@domenicv7962 Rufus Speedy Jones - probably my least favorite of all the Basie drummers. Just one man’s humble opinion.
@@rhythmfield no such thing as a humble opinion.
