Early Breakouts & Busts-Are We In Or Out On These Cards?

  • So far this season there are players who are breaking out and players who are busts. In this video the Spitballin' Team discusses which players are doing great and which players are doing bad and what we think that means for their cards. Baseball cards seem to go up and down very quickly, and we will do our best to say what we think COULD happen.

    As a Red Sox fan, I'm pretty high on Triston Casas. He's already 24 with no real accolades but I think he could be a an absolute force if he can keep the slugging up and improve the batting average. He is a really solid first baseman so I think he has a lot of potential especially if the Sox are better than expected this year

    • @SpitballinCards
      @SpitballinCards  3 месяца назад +2

      Chris here - I like Casas too. He was stolen from me in my fantasy league draft this league, and that stings.
      It’s going to be a log season in Boston this year, but there’s reason for long term optimism. Houck, whitlock, Pivetta, Crawford, and Bello need to get more innings and experience this year. But that’s potentially a nice rotation.

    • @SpitballinCards

      Chris here - it’s hard to get too excited about any A’s cards these days. Gelof has potential, but what a sad story and a terrible ownership.
      Ruiz has more fantasy baseball value than card value. So far at least.

    A hot start where the players cards are going up is Cj abrams. His 2nd half from last year is starting to look like his floor. More power might cut into his sb number better glove still needs defense work

    Also, Adolis Garcia is a stud... he's been my fantasy baseball ace-in-the-hole since 2021, simply amazing. I think he's just "too old" to have significant hobby love, but he's a guy in my PC for sure, and I hope everyone keeps sleeping on him, because I think he'll be great for a while! Also, regarding all the muscle mass, I totally agree, he's put it on, but when I was 30-35ish I really bulked up to, I just think he has the body type to put muscle on safe and easily. Sorry for the rant, but ya'll have a great week!

    Dr. Phil making the house call......he doesn't whiff too often on pitches in the zone. The good Dr's sprint speed is always up to par. Great take on Altuve. Fantastic chat fella's ~ good to see the boys grinding MLB news. Love Chris' George Bush reference to be being fooled many times....always a confusing as hell sentiment. Bush did a fabulous job of destroying a few beloved American cliches. Not quite on Dan Quayle's level however.. Soto will probably win the MVP this year... he has never been more focused as he should be in his all important contract year. When you have Acuna and Soto and Trout etc... why continue to invest into a disheveled Vladdy Guerrero? It's tiring to keep adding whip cream to something that sours so easily and consistently. His blueberry is just not as sweet as others.

    Great pod fellas, the conversations were fun to listen to and flowed well (even with Scottie gone)👌! I like your addendum T-Pot about Cowser, he was a 5th overall pick and was expected to be good, so this hot steak shouldn't be too surprising, but it's been fun! I would take it a step further talking about some of the cold streak top guys are on, like Julio and Acura... it's way too early to be remotely concerned imo. Obviously, even all-timers go on hot and cold streaks, it's still only 3 weeks into the season. It's tough when you think about stats all the time, have your projections, and do research daily, so when things are different that what you thought would happen, it's jarring (good and bad). As someone who does this as a side hustle and for a fun hobby, I find it more entertaining than harmful when players go on a cold streak, but I can understand that if your income and livelihood depend on another person's performance, it's stressful... kinda like the financial market, you can do your best looking on past performance and due diligence, but ultimately it's out of your control. Anyways, thanks for another entertaining pod!

    I said it a few weeks back when season started. A dark horse MVP candidate might be Gunnar Henderson. Orioles should win a lot of games and I think Gunnar takes the next step on path to a perennial All Star player. Should be a fun season.
