These Players STINK-Are Their Cards In Trouble?

- Every MLB season players start slow. This year in particular however has many all start caliber players stumbling out of the gate. In this video I look at 7 or 8 players who have had a slow start to the season and discuss how worried I am about their baseball cards on a scale of 1-10. I also share how much each players' cards have dropped so far this year due to their poor performance.
I think overall people freak out way too early.
Exactly the mindset of someone who sells at a loss.
@@miroslavklinsmann7021no, it’s the mindset of someone who understands the baseball season is long and not to panic sell.
100% anyone freaking out over a slow start is definitely in it for money.
As a collector, I always buy the dip. So thank you people freaking out.
I think you are 100 percent correct. It takes some players a month or so to start coming around now if we start getting into the let's say end of May beginning of June and are still sucking then it's time to start worrying!
Would love to see a pt2 follow up at All Star Break and pt3 at end of the season and see how they all did and the card pricing trends. Would be an interesting video.
That would be fun! I may need to take you up on that.
This could be the last decent buy-low opportunity on Julio.
But who would actually trade him?
He is over rated. People gunna be selling them massive trying to het out of their investment in him this year. I'm investing in elly think he is going to be really great.
@@tommygo49ers So your strategy is to buy when a player is at their absolute maximum value?
Elly put up 1.9 WAR last year over 427 PA, and is currently rocking a .422 BABIP with a 32% k rate.
Have fun with that.
I love it when players start off horribly, since that means the prices plummet for the players I collect and I can buy them at a discount since many people panic way too early.
Yes, this is one of the best times of the year to snag some of these players!
Not concerned about Julio at all. He’s my guy, but the streakiest player I’ve ever seen. Always starts slow, then one good game and he’s off to the races. He went 4 for 5 today. Now he will have several multi hit games with stolen bases. Then once he hits one HR they come every other game.
Great video. What site do you use for the barrel rate and other stats thats very cool.
Thanks for watching! That is from Baseball Savant. Fangraphs has a lot of great information as well.
Corbin Carroll’s start had been awful
Yeah.. I am surprised by his start. A lot of great players are not clicking quite yet. The season is still young!
Concerns: Jackson holiday going 1/25 to start career I’m rooting for the kid but maybe Kerstadjt would have been better move
now 1/33
Definitely not the start any of us expected! It just shows how hard MLB pitching can be to adjust to.
When Holiday got sent down I would've loved to see Norby given a chance. My guess is they don't want Norby to outshine Holiday.
Basically everyone in my PSA order. Haha.
Haha, don't worry! I think a lot of them (if not all) will come around!
J-Rod 13 hits in his last 28 ABs! heating up
I think JRod will move to a warm weather team if he ever changes teams. The slow starts could be related to the cold in Seattle early in spring
Baseball is a very hard sport. The baseball card industry is aZZ backwards.. People buying hype, players that haven't done a thing in the league. Paying in some cases tens of thousands of dollars, meanwhile guys like Nolan who have produced for over a decade and is first ballot HOF .. seeing 25 % dips.. AZZ backwards .
I noticed when it comes to your concern level, all of the older guys (who you’ve admitted to collecting) your not concerned, but all the young guys your super concerned.
The only players on this list I collect are Arenado and Goldschmidt.
I am not worried about Goldschmidt since he is at a point in his career where poor performance is not a big deal since he has already wrapped up his career. I also gave Arenado a 6 because I am worried a bit about how he is aging. I am more critical on young players because they have significantly more risk and significantly more to prove. I do not collect Acuna or Harper at all, and I am not worried about them. I would have gladly added Trout or Mookie if they had a slow start to this list, and I would have been concerned.
Mookie Betts is off to a strong start
Let's hope he stays hot for that MVP push. Usually he starts very slow and he heats up in the summer so it is nice to see!
I think it's too early to worry about starting slumps. Maybe check back at the end of May or mid June to see how same slumping players are doing. A lot of star players are having slow starts this year. It may be the cold weather, it may be all the rain, who knows? This is the first time in what, 3 years that Harper may actually play a full season.
Thanks for watching! I am just discussing the players people care about and their slow start. Baseball is a marathon and one month is a blip on the radar. Regardless, people want to chat about them. That is why I am not too concerned about many of the players.
Man rough start for Julio. Its like 5 degrees at T-Mobile park for night games until July (so I dont blame him)
He is playing well at Coors right now.. Maybe the Rockies need to trade for him? Jk. I think Julio is going to be doing well soon!
Thumbnail was awesome😂
Thank you!!
Thank you for jinxing jrod🙏 hes up to .278 avg with a homer
I got you 🙌. I think we all knew that he had it in him.
Just sold my Topps Gold Label J-Rod Golden Nugget /5 RC before the season started. I probably couldnt get anywhere near to what i got for it today. Still miss it, though. It was a really sharp card.
It's better to sell into the hype than hold and risk losing value
Acuna, but that's only because I'm a Braves fan! BTW Mookie is on 🔥! Congrats I saw one of his Heritage RC Red Ink auto the other day beautiful beautiful card
That is awesome! Where did you see the red ink auto at?
@@scottiebcards2354 it was on Chris Sewall's channel he made his last high rollers video about a guy named Dave that he met at the Chantilly Show. It was a PSA 10. It was an awesome card and it made me think of you. His channel is called Baseball Collector Investor Dealer and the video was 5 days ago
I think we also forget that they are only human and not super powerful. We need to just relax and let them play. Let them have another bad year maybe but you know sometimes people get into ruts!
How many more years for Paul gold? I have he signs a 2 year deal to get to 400hr
He needs to start hitting this year. If he does, I think someone will give him a two year deal. His history is way too good!
@@scottiebcards2354 so you think he will make the hall? I have a good amount of his stuff I am rooting for him.
I know people gotta get clicks and stuff but we’re barely halfway through April. There’s zero use in any predictions right now.
This is a typical discourse and conversation for baseball and baseball cards when a new season starts. I will look at players playing well next and seeing how their cards are moved. Analyzing slow starts and talking about players is the fun of the sport.
Great vid!
Thank you!
Tork worries me I have a couple of his cards being a tigers fan I worry he may be a bust. I keep seeing cool cheap versions of his cards but still think he’s not worth it.
I totally agree, as his torrid end to last season was a mirage a bit
Tork worries me as well.. There are a few players that should be having better numbers by now.
Still in April and many are throwing in the towel on lots of players. See it every year. Long way to go. Guys batting .350+ today, won’t be there in September. Guys batting .180 today who are traditionally good hitters, will get back to the norm.
I agree! Thanks for watching!
Regression to the mean
Vlad is a very mediocre at best player. Maybe a batting coach can step in and help him and he'll get better.
Thoughts on Aaron Judge?
As a longtime Yankee fan I'm loving this start but deep down I know everyone will get hurt and they'll be lucky to get out of a wild card game.
I think either he is injured and will get healthy soon and will play better or he is just truly having a slow start. I am not ready to say he is washed yet. Thanks for watching!
First thing I see today Aaron Judge booed at Yankee Stadium after golden sombrero lowers AVG to .179: 'I've heard worse'
He has to be dealing with an injury at this point, right? He missed some time in spring training with an abdominal issue so that is my guess!
The one guy I would definitely avoid on this list is Arenado. He is old enough that he won’t accumulate a lot more counting stats considering how he has played since 2020 in general. And he needs to have good years to get into the hall
@ryanra44. Have you looked at his cards. Bro... You're tripping. His cards aren't graded that much and dudes love this cat. Y'all know nothing about cards. Popularity is key ... Not stats .
@@Carliferz you think Nolan Arenado is popular? Might not even be in the top 100 most collected players in baseball. Just search card sales by volume. He is nowhere near as popular as you think.
@@ryanra44 look at his prices in a PSA slab. He's sell big time.
@@Carliferz again. Look at sales volume.
Their cards aren’t in trouble, people who own the cards are in trouble😂
Great point!
Acuña, Harper will be fine and shockingly Lindor too. However, I'm concerned about Goldschmidt and Arenado
Luckily Arenado has turned it on since this video. Goldschmidt? Not so much yet.
We need May a Kershaw back from the IL. JD Mart and Dominguez is also injured.
Agreed
The size of that ball makes you look tiny.
Haha I have never noticed that until now!
Should of waited just a few more days to make the Julio segment. Literally turned all those numbers around since this vid. You gotta wait about 6 weeks into a season to panic.
I am happy he was able to do so! I mention in the video that I am not really concerned about Julio's performance. I am happy to see that Coors helped spark his bat!
Concerned about Aaron Judge. Still looks a little off to me, even with the big hit yesterday. I also think that he is no longer the best player on the team with Soto there.
I'm lookin at the home run leaders list, looking for Judge...and looking....and looking. Where the hell is he?? So weird, all these star players off to a poor start this year. Trout is off to a bangin start!
@@mikea5205 Yea Trout looks really good. Hopefully he can stay healthy 🤞
It's so weird, seems like Trout's been around forever, but he's still only 32, dang.
Arenado should no be falling off this quickly he is 32 not 38
I agree... It is weird to see him change from elite to average-slightly above average so quickly.
And lindor 😳. His cards were so hot once
There is a couple pitches that Julio straight up can’t hit .
I’m surprised you didn’t mention Judge, but I’m not too concerned about him… yet.
I was going to, but I didn't want to make the video too long. It is crazy how many slow starts there have been!
For some of these players even if there high end RC when down couple of hundreds are still over priced.
Yes, a lot is baked into the young player pricing for sure!
Really concerned about Kris Bryant and Christian Yelich, I started collecting their cards , now kind of regretting it, poor Kris Bryant getting death threats in Colorado for his lack of performance
I have given up on KB as a Rockies fan and a collector. He is ALWAYS injured at this point. It was an awful contract for the Rockies unfortunately.
As usual, we get it. Only collect Trout and Betts like you do.
Hi Walter, thanks for watching.
I do not know why that was the takeaway from this video. I do not believe that I mentioned either of them. If they had slow starts I would have included them as well. Two of the players I collect heavily (Arenado and Goldschmidt) are on this list.
I just listed a 2022 series 2 SP Julio on Ebay ending Sunday. I'm hoping he has a solid couple games over the weekend lol
Terrible time to sell that card
Michel Busch ⬆️⬆️💵💰
He is looking good. I bet the Dodgers wish they kept him with the way the bottom of their order is playing.
outro should start at (12:15)
Why? Getting a quick good take on Ancuña and Harper is helpful for a lot of collectors and investors.
Harper and Acuna will be fine, but they also have a lot of collectors who want them to be discussed. Thanks for watching!
I think Lindor is starting to come out of his slump. Im not worried about him.
He has looked great since his Mets ovation!
I freakin' love baseball, that's all I can say! LET'S GO REDLEGS!!
Yeah Goldy is not a hof er. I seen Goldie on the the farm before he came up . Guy was a stud . He is a Hall of great-er not famer
We will see. I love Goldy and think he will get in the way that voters are looking at things nowadays. I have my fingers crossed!
Tell my ol friend Mike Curti hello for me👋
Its april 18th 😂 lets the pump the breaks a bit
I make videos to hot and cold starts every year. My goal is not to say these players are washed, but rather to discuss the cold starts and how it has impacted their card values. I will do the same thing for players who were hot to start the year this next week!
Gavin Lux..buy now...very loooow
Francisco Lindor is nowhere near all the fame player
Never was never will be
I respect your opinion and I am not a Lindor collector~ too much other low hanging fruit ~ but I've been around the block on this earth a while and If Lindor continues his .260 30hr's/ 90rbi's with .800 OPS output as a SS ? He is going to prance into the HOF with bells on.....
@@simondaughtry4619 the question is a big IF? He can
@@codymac4474 for sure.
It will be interesting. He has a lot going for him, but he also needs a strong finish to his career.
Kyle Tucker is THE guy!!!
You are Tucker's biggest supporter! Let's hope for a big year!
Julio is overrated as hell.
Vlad will be an all-star
I hope you are right! There have been some signs of life in his bat lately!
Wish you would focus less on almost retired players. We already know why.
Total overreaction on ALL these players. Soooo many players past and present have gone through rough patches in their careers especially beginning of season. I believe you should be talking more about pitchers that are struggling right now. Also there seems to be WAY more injuries this early in the season. I’m willing to bet that all the players that you have mentioned will be just fine before the all-star break. It’s all assumptions at this point with everyone’s opinions. Nobody can predict what the future holds anyway. Everyone has their own opinions because we’re ALL human.(Well, most of us are!?!?🤔😉)👍
Its a long season. So speculating is just that... speculation. Be more concerned for guys who cant stay healthy like Eloy Jimenez or Luis Robert. Bichette is ass right now as well.
Good point. availability is the best ability.
Most cards are still dropping in this garbage economy.
👆 Statistical COPIUM is fine but macro card trends are more relevant.
