- There has been a lot of movement the last few weeks within the sports cards hobby. eBay and PSA made a huge trade. eBay acquired PSA's auction platform, Goldin Auctions, and PSA acquired the eBay vault. The Spitballin' Team will share their thoughts on this transaction, some gold refractor sales, and other hobby news.
I find my "National" is on my computer buying on auction sites weekly, monthly ~ When I actually travel to the National its more of a party occasion~ When I go to Chicago, for example ~ I spend time with my sons going to Cubs games, restaurants, play some Texas Hold 'em and when going to the national itself I actually just look ~ Its rare I ever buy anything there..its fun as heck but buying something is the furthest thing from my mind.... I am there to observe, have a drink, unwind and chat it up with as many as I can...Perhaps I am in the majority. The only purchase I ever made was 4 or 5 years ago I bought a PSA 9 '70 Thurman Munson RC ... it was totally unplanned and impulsive. My bday is July 29th (typically a day during the National) and my wife got a bug to get the Munson for me in essence....~~Thanks for a great vid all of you...I enjoy the time you each spend doing the hobby good.... and keeping collectors like myself fluent on current issues.
Chris here - that’s basically my experiences at the Burbank’s shows out here in Los Angeles. I’ve been to 3 shows and made one big purchase. Most there to hang out, meet people and just enjoy the atmosphere.

Anything that brings awareness to the Hobby is a good thing... "strength in numbers" The National is great but very bland imo. Having some of the biggest names in sports attend/be part of these events in a win. I was part planning some of the biggest parties in Scottsdale for 20 years and the big names, put asses in seats so to speak. I believe Fanatics will do a great job at catering to the collectors old/new
Thanks for the perspective -- makes a lot of sense. And awareness of the hobby in the general populous is not that high, so this might shine a bigger light on it.

I’ve started using the PWCC vault some recently. With PWCC, I don’t have to worry about someone not knowing what the vault is😂. That Mookie Gold…what a sweet looking card. The price paid for the SGC 10 doesn’t seem unreasonable to me.

Do you use the vault for cards you’ve bought from PWCC? Or have you sent cards into the vault as well?
@@SpitballinCardsBoth. A couple recent PWCC purchases are there. I also picked up a card on a different platform and am having it sent to PWCC. It hasn’t been received yet, so fingers crossed. I haven’t figured out a way to completely eliminate cards-in-the-mail anxiety lol. For anything really significant, I think I might ask PWCC if I could drop off in person.
Nice! I had vault issues with PWCC before they got bought out (back when they were over-leveraging people's collections 😟), but they seem to be doing well with Fanatics at the helm now.
The "boring" National wont last. Fanatics will swallow that market as well. They have all the money, power, and product. Dealers would die to kiss the ring and reap the rewards.
Chris here - I hope you’re wrong. I haven’t been to the National but I like following the news that comes out of it and I hope to make it there one year.
Maybe it will force the National to up their game? (Avoid Atlantic City and make sure the AC is working, for starters!) I really hope it doesn't go away completely.
one thing I've heard about the vault is that ebay is awful at listing the cards with the proper description. Its cost people a lot of views and money is what I've been told

Yep, title and description and all the metadata. For some reason they have a hard time getting the grading company right.
Chris here - I’ve used the vault a lot and the initial titles are always just weeks. I’ve had to change the titles on everything. But it takes about 18-24hrs for changes to go through and then it’s fine.
Jeff here -- this was a HUGE issue at first, but it is much improved of late in terms of timely changes you can make to your listings. Still, that's one thing that will no doubt be improved and streamlined by PSA after the merger.

Franco bagholders are probably "selling" cards on ebay which likely never get paid for, in a desperate attempt to stop the cards going to zero. There is so much wrong with ebay I wouldn't know where to start. Perhaps this - monopolies are always bad for the consumer.
Chris here - I can’t wrap my head around it. I see his stuff selling every day. Some of it at least is getting paid for. No idea why. His cards are absolutely headed to ZERO.

Hi, I am a collector and I have a LARGE collection of mostly baseball cards I am about to put up for sale on Ebay. I am talking 500-1000+ cards and a bunch of sets. Some rare (sets). There’s zero consequences for canceling after purchase. Ebay is not seller friendly.

I prefer getting my graded cards back to do blind reveals for you tube and ultimately for my own enjoyment. With PSA grading 1.3 million cards per month, I think more people will take advantage of it once they can see a smooth process. I think Fanatics will pull out all of the stops for the festival, but beside dealers, how many collectors can afford to spend the time and money just a few weeks after the National? I want to see the hobby grow and innovate, but that also means someone or some show will get eliminated.
Chris here - I’m with you on the blind reveals. They are fun. STRESSFUL, but fun. We do then on our Blabbin’ youtube channel too.
The fanatics event definitely seems geared to bring non-hobby people in. Hopefully, it works!

@@SpitballinCards You and me both. I just got back my 100 card Feb MLB special from PSA. Dripping them out slowly on my eBay store before the National. I have a few Freddie Freemans...
I would rather have the PSA 10 for $3500, but if it was a choice between a $5000 PSA 10 or a $2950 SGC 10, I would choose the SGC 10. Ten out of ten times.
