What I love the most is how open they genuinely are to LGBTQIA+. Soyeon herself said she was attracted to women (specifically rapper Grazy Grace) back in 2016 on a show called Unpretty Rapstar. She has worn a lot of pride clothing, even in her second single MV Idle Song she's wearing a very rare bi pride hoody. She's openly said about Oh My God that she supports 'all forms of love' and hates 'all kinds of prejudice.' Shuhua has openly encouraged her fans to love people of the same sex when asked by fans who haven't come out what they should do, on many occasions. Miyeon, Yuqi, Minnie and Soojin haven't done or said anything openly saying they're queer, but they've all shown support for LGBTQIA+ people.

I would add that Miyeon has worn pride nails for at least 2 separate pride months (for example, one year she wore the Burberry nails.) And can we mention that Minnie, Miyeon and Shuhua have all worn "I ❤ Gurls" tops in the last couple of months 😁

Just to clear up since it was one of the first comments made by you guys:
Soyeon is the leader of the group, she is still an active role.
Soojin (the one with the blond hair) is the one who had left the group after accusations of bullying (from middle school, the other members have shown their support for her since her departure). She is now a solo artist.

Also "Dahlia" which is written by Minnie, is about falling in love with a flower knowing it's wrong but she can't help it cause it's so beautiful and she's keep falling deeper. what i think about the mud part in the video is that Soyeon (the first who appears covered in mud) seems to have fully accepted and made peace with her "sins" and is happy being in this so called "hell", even enjoying it. While Minnie also fell for the "sin", but couldn't accept herself in the end, and that's why she seems more uncomfortable and even "done" in the mud. But that's just my take on it i could be completely wrong here 😂
For other recommendations for Idle i honestly would tell you to listen to everything cuz their discography is impeccable and never misses, the Killing Voice could prove you a little bit of that. As for MVs: Hann (alone), Lion, Hwaa, Señorita, Allergy (it was a pre realease for Queencard and it's the first part of the story), Tomboy, MY BAG (performance video) and last but not least Revenge, this last one lives in my mind rent free.
It's a shame Soojin was kicked out of the group cause their company sucks, she is still loved by most neverlands and the girls too, they always reference her in their MVs, she is a soloist now at least, that makes our hearts a little bit warm.

for me i read it as minnie unalived herself to try and escape from her “temptations” something that’s sadly true for a lot of queer youth still, and so she ended up in hell with soyeon because while trying to escape her sin she committed an even worse one. the message is basically (in my interpretation) “if you’re going to hell, might as well live your life and trust your heart” this mini album is called trust and is all about self belief.

The video uses a lot of angel/devil symbolism. The mud part is definitely hell. The white room could be "limbo." They themselves have said that Soojin is they "devil" seducing them "the angels". There are a lot of comments on the video of people giving their interpretations, which are quite good.
Also, the dance, let's just say there is some touching 🍒

We start the music video with minnie being dragged in a white space that looks clinical and devoid of color, then quite literally CRAWLING to a passageway in the wall that leads into the next scene which is starkly in contrast to the white and full of so much color. like night and day. then the beat kicks in, and finally an almost royal ethereal-looking yuqi appears. everything looks full and so lively. it’s minnie yearning to be in a world full of color which this girl who ‘showed her all the stars’ gave to her. her wanting to fall deeper into this love that’s so colorful. it’s basically a fantasy. she clearly wants nothing more than to get out of this white stained clean almost hospital-like place. running from these guard looking figures with black handprints and black splatter all over them. i think these guards/figures are supposed to represent society, and this white space is supposed to respect a mental hospital. being queer used to be seen as a mental illness, and usually being out in society can sometimes feels like you have some kind of sickness or something deadly wrong with you that needs to be purified. but clearly the guards/figure are the ones with black handprints splattered on their plain white outfits, and minnie is in pure white. they’re the ones who are de purifying her. and in the end minnie is corrupted BY the guards/figures. the whole music video minnie is shown in this room going crazy trying to get away from these figures, stuck in this white room/prison. but if you pay attention, about a quarter of the way through, she takes her fingers and makes a gun motion and shoots herself. bang. a few seconds later you can see her leaking blood on the floor and another few seconds a clip shows her with bloody nose. i think her character arc in the music video is supposed to show that too much repression can sully a person, and make them so alone the only way they could think of getting out is killing themselves. and that she could never truly accept herself, and was left in the mud, the same place she was trying to save herself from, the same place the people in white spent the whole music video trying to drag her away from.
after a clip of minnie in the white room, then we get soyeons rap, which is i think, a difference between someone stuck trying to repress themselves(minnie) and someone who is embracing themself and saying they’re fine with sin if they get to be together with the one they love(soyeon).
they’re meant to represent the different sides of the same coin.
remember, the only two members who were ever in that white room and the only members who started out in that white room were soyeon and minnie. one got out, one stayed in, they both ended in the same exact place, and were again the only members in the mud/blood in the end. soyeon was smiling and smearing it on herself, minnie was stuck trying to escape and hating herself for it. here are a few lyrics from the rap that i think describe minnie in that room, and soyeon remembering what it was like there in the beginning:
“The self-control and moderation you gave me
“Have torn into pieces in the dark black hole”
“It's unable to control, like sugar-coated drugs”
i think that says it all😭😭 that’s just my interpretation, many people have many different interpretations and ideas, but i think even that this music video was even made and that soyeon fought for it makes me so proud no matter what the real truth is. the video was so incredibly intentional that i can’t believe anything other than that the meaning was intentional, too. especially when soyeon said this in an interview about why she was so set on the ‘she’ pronouns:
“I just write what's on my mind.
i didn't want to limit that 'she' to a certain being or a certain definition, so it's open to anything.
all kinds of love are valuable and must be respected.”
gonna shed a tear my queen knows her core audience 🥹😭🥲
i was a bit confused about the red and the implication of hell in the end, but when you actually look into how korean society sees and operates around lesbians you understand. it’s a completely different culture around it and this video was made years ago when it was even worse. just a year earlier gidle got into a controversy where they were ridiculed by knetizens(knetizens is what they call korean citizens that are the main fanbase for all kpop and not specific fandoms. so basically just all of korea) for kissing each other on stage after winning an award. they got in hot shit for just kissing each other on the cheek as a celebration and this song was released a year later. coincidental? maybe? maybe not, but worth mentioning!! but that’s just to say it’s pretty bad and the fact this video came out is crazy as there’s a big don’t ever speak about it just will it away culture.korea is pretty conservative and even the mention of it is pretty taboo. even though it’s slowly getting better especially in recent years and i’m glad idols have gotten a lot more comfortable, they couldn’t have become comfortable without the generation of kpop idols who spoke out and really took risky steps for lgbtq+ people in korea. the first ones that come to mind are sistar and GLAM, park jungmin, song ji eun, K.Will, and of course Holland!!! and all the other kpop idols and popular actors and shows that took steps to normalize it and especially HUMANIZE IT. and that’s just half the fight. a lot of what kpop idols and actors do don’t translate into regular living. it’s just art and special cases. it’s the same with the clothes they wear and almost everything else.
i did a bit of research of what it’s like to be a lesbian in korea, and the general consensus is that it’s extremely hard, one quora user said:
“People point, stare, laugh, and whisper. Moms will shield their children's eyes and the elderly will shake their heads in contempt.
    Churchgoers approaching us and:
    Beginning to pray
Telling us we're going to hell
    Shouting at us
Hitting us with their Bible (true story)
Schoolgirls taking photos of us to "show their friends later”
Street vendors refusing to sell food to us
Mothers telling their children "study hard or you'll become a homo"
It's bad enough that my family disowned me for dating a woman (which is a common occurrence by the way), I don't need my entire country to treat me like I'm diseased.”
(this was an anonymous poster, she should be the first post that pops up when you search “what is it like to be a lesbian in korea” on google. this is just the one i picked because i thought her wording was beautiful. she seems like a wonderful soul.)
i think that’s all!! i only focused on two characters gidle showed in the music video but there’s so much more nitty gritty about this music video that i could literally interpret it in like five different ways for hours. these two were just the first to stand out ❤️❤️
goddamn. im sorry for the fucking essay this is my first day taking adhd meds💋❤️😭 i’m obviously having trouble figuring out when to stop. love the vid

Welcome to Neverland! The story of (G)i-dle (feel free to say the 'g;' the group often does, especially in the West), is lengthy and involved, so too much for a quick comment. But I will say that the (G)i-dle story in many ways revolves around the two members who kept coming up in your discussion, Soyeon and Soojin. 'Soyeon is a genius' is practically a cliche', and very true. (You may enjoy reacting to any of several behind-the-scenes videos of Soyeon in the producer's booth.) Soojin's forced departure hit the group like a bomb--as Soyeon unflinchingly shows us in a recent (G)i-dle MV. And Soojin's recent re-debut as a solo is virtually unprecedented for an idol tainted by scandal, a comeback facilitated by Soyeon's careful program to keep Soojin's name alive in the ranks of the fandom. Whew! So, I'm going to recommend next reacting to 'Lion,' which was the last (G)i-dle MV featuring Soojin, and 'Tomboy', which was the first MV after Soojin left. As for other groups to check out--and trust me on this--Mamamoo is a must. Mamamoo's style is vastly different from (G)i-dle's, but they share the characteristics of having non-typical origins and non-conformist attitudes. Just for fun fun fun, you might want to start at the most recent, with the solo MV (officially a 'performance' video) by Mamamoo member (and leader) Solar for her song 'Colors,' then head back in time to Mamamoo's breakthrough pop song 'Um Oh Ah Yeah.' Even more fun to be had! Cheers

There have been precious few idols that have overtly come out as queer in this industry and almost all of them have stuffered for it, even losing their careers. This is to say: They can’t really say they are queer. But you look at a song like this which has such strong symbolism in it’s lyrics and music video and you must conclude that at least one of the members has some type of familiarity with the queer community.
For other groups that have queer themes I recommend Mamamoo’s Moonbyul and Solar and OnlyOneOf. For Moonbyul she has a song called Shut Down and Solar just recently released a song called Colors. Those two are the most overtly queer. For OnlyOneOf their entire Be series.
As far as openly queer idols go, the only one that could probably be considered well known is Holland. But there are more! I just can’t recall them off the top of my head. I’m sure there are many other closeted idols, it’s the entertainment industry afterall. And many idols have shared their support of the community to varying degrees of overtness.

Soyeon is SO involved in every aspect of their work. Except for their English EP "Heat", she has written all their title tracks and the majority of their songs. She also produces most of their songs, comes up with the concepts, and is involved in pretty much everything down to nail design. Minnie and Yuqi also write and produce, and Miyeon wrote her first lyrics for the group on the last album. The group as a whole contributes to the creative direction.
I think you picked up a lot of the messaging in the mv, though i have seen several interpretations of the mv. I think there was some religious imagery you missed, but you picked up on more than most 😊 It's definitely worth checking out their English language version of the song - I don't think it's quite a good, but it is more explicit.

The angels, demons, purgatory, heaven and hell theory is popular.
I think being able to make your own based on your own views is the best though. As a queer person I was really surprised something like this excisted in kpop since I didn't know much about it before I got into Gidle.

However I will say this, I hate when people premise their songs with interpretations like 'it's an LGBT anthem", as it leaves no room for any other interpretation. As a reactor, I think you should be allowed to make your own interpretation of lyrics and music, not be forced into hearing it with preconceived expectations. I-dle have MULTIPLE interpretations of their songs, lyrics, and visuals. Personally, I'd enjoy hearing your take on it before being forced to expect some kind of message or agenda.
Soyeon officially spoke about this during an interview, she wanted to break the preconceived notion of 'he' and 'she' in lyrics. Some people are pushing their own interpretation as bliblical fact.
