Welcome to the Letterman RUclips Channel, home to all your favorite clips from Late Night and Late Show - as well as conversations with the writers, producers and performers who helped make it all happen. The language may strike you as quaint & flowery, the clothing comically lacey & ornate - but that’s how things were back in this colorful and now bygone era. - Развлечения
I went to that Berkeley show and I was the only person who came from SF. He ended up giving me a ride home, and we listened to Belle and Sebastian the whole way. He told me he just won his Toyota at at comedy event. I told him he was gonna be the biggest star in the world, and he said, “You really think so?!” Years later my friends finally understood why it was such a big deal for me to meet him. He’s so cool. Happy to see this again after all these years! ❤

Fake story
@@shadowaccount ask Zach when you see him
Did you listen to the Mike Piazza song?
@@shadowaccountOkay, prove it’s fake then. I wouldn’t decide one way or another with the information given that the story is real or fake. So prove it’s fake if you want to claim it is.
Man, with everything this guy's done I can't believe he only made his network debut just 6 days ago. That's so wild.
Even more amazing is the fact that Jennine's kept her youthful look 🎉
Lol
He’s finally getting his due

Gotta Save the Best 4 Last.
We saw Zach do basically this same bit at the Bumbershoot festival in Seattle around the same time. Unforgettable energy. We stayed in the venue and a few more comedians did their sets. We were kind of loitering there not sure what stage to go to next. Well Mr. Galifianakis comes back out on stage, he's going to do another set. We (GF and I) decided to leave, trying to get out before he started, but we were too slow and wound up walking out just as he was starting. Zach asked us why were leaving and I kind of started to say "We already saw-" and then he just screamed at us "GET OUT!" and the crowd of course laughed their heads off as we scurried away like mice. Love you Zach, and honored to be the target of your wrath!
I remember that!!!! I was at the show and for some stupid reason sat in the front row, to his immediate left when he was at the piano and thinking to myself "please don't draw attention to myself!" LOL. That's hilarious! I remember him calling you guys out!!!
@@russperry4461 that's awesome! 😆 Thanks for the reply!
Better than being the target of a "Bumbershoot." If you are ever a Bumbershoot target, you might want to get out of the way, unless a Bumbershoot is an Inanimate Object, then, you just do whatever you want. See, if i care.
I love the guy in the audience shouting, "You go, girl"! 😂
Ya, he's the real talent! He began his career years ago on the PGA TOUR, he's the "Get in the hole!" guy after every live shot.
@@gregbaker9857 At least he's got range.
Would love Zach to do another comedy special. Purple Onion is so good!
Legendary and often imitated
The ubiquitous 90's paper cup on the piano!!!! Oh the feels
Zach is a comic genius. I wish he was still doing stand-up.
he does like 5-10 minute sets randomly in LA once in a blue moon
@@WellActualllyyy Would love to see one! He's such a great comedian.
he only does sit-down now
Purple Onion is how I discovered him. I thought it was one of the most interesting hilarious sets I’d ever seen. Might still be. Love that dude. I hope he’s over his Odoul’s addiction.
A friend showed me Purple Onion after I was complaining that most stand up comics feel like they are just following a template for how to be a comic. How they hold the mic, how they stand and walk, how they tell jokes. And I said I wanted to see someone do something different, and he said, hold on, you gotta see this.
I absolutely loved it.
This guy is super funny, can't wait to see what he does next!
The hangover part 34
yeah because this set sucked bad
I was part of one of Zach's improvised bits. At a comedy club for the Just For Laughs festival in Montreal, I booked tickets early to see him perform but this being so many years before the Hangover movies, he was not well known and his unusual long name was unfortunately not doing him any favors. The club was half empty, organized with a bunch of little tables and chairs scattered throughout. Almost everyone sat as far to the back as they could but I wanted to be upfront to see him work his magic.
He occasionally adopts an straight faced angry persona and after a while, came down from the set to rant about how there are too few people there. He blurts out something like "There are so many empty CHAIRS!" and kicks one across the club. Then, he basically beelines toward me while purposely ignoring me, as if I didn't exist and pushed his belly into my face. He's standing his belly in my face and I'm sitting there with my face implanted firmly into his belly but staying perfectly still.
So we're *2* people ignoring the presence of the other and the crowd is laughing hysterically by this point. He does 2-3 jokes and eventually leaves to go back onstage. The crowd gave a huge ovation for that bit. My claim to fame was that I had Zach's belly in my face while he delivered a few jokes, while helping him get some laughs for an on-the-spot bit. :)
That would be my luck, finally make it to Letterman, and Dave's not there!
That kind of praise from janeane is awesome wow
His 1st Comedy Central Presents special originally aired a few days after 9/11 too
During Earth Hour. (Norm Macdonald reference)

I can't be the only person who sees the Letterman RUclips put up a video of someone and immediately Google them to make sure they're alive.
@DarthSmirnoff same, Darth, same
You're talking about Janeane Garofalo, right?
Snarky millenial comment. Stupid.
No I google to find nude pics. Jeanne is gorgeous
You might be. These aren't that old.
Maybe the Ed Sullivan Show.
I loved his comedy, and he had a talk show for a month, and my friends and I went to the premiere episode because we loved his comedy and Foo Fighters were the musical guest.
When Foo Fighters we’re coming on, he went up into the audience and sat next to me and we chatted briefly. He was so friendly and was genuinely excited to watch Foo Fighters do their thing.
This crowd was a little TOO jazzed to hear about Zach taking a leak on Tony Danza’s walk of fame star BEFORE hearing the punchline.
I still remember his one special where he called himself "Zatch Gaspafinaski," & that's his name in my now head forever lol.
He reminds me of comics from the 70's, as far as his creative (almost dated style delivery) material, but with just enough contemporary spin to be currently relevant. Bravo!
He crushed it and Janine was so happy about it.
Why is Janine itching all over???
Janine wasss thiiiiiiirrrsstaaaayyy! 😂
@Passaf1st yes the playing with her hair

I doubt it. 15 minutes and he’ll be gone forever
He was fantastic in the show Baskets.
There it is. Someone always goes for this easy joke on old videos of people before they become really famous. It’s not original and it’s only funny to the simple-minded.
@@fezzik7619 Here's another classic for you: You must be fun at parties
@@cluelessbeats truly awesome one. I’ll alert the media. Maybe even the White House. You’ll be famous!
Without the beard, Zach G looks like a handsome movie star!
And minus the Additional 30 kegs.
Why did he shave his beard and mustache? It looks like a kid now
I ran into Garofalo once in the west village. She was walking her dog. Very down to earth and social. She was talking to people on the street. Very cool
@circusbrains They were polite and friendly, talked about ordinary things that regular folk could relate to. I think that's what down to earth means
In the 1986 film The Mission staring Robert De Niro, Italian composer Ennio Morricone has a beautiful song called Gabriel's Oboe, and in this song right there in the orchestra with everyone else is a well dressed man in a tuxedo who's job it is to play the bongo. I always like to think that if I could read his mind he would be saying. "and they all laughed at me when I took bongo at Juilliard."
Her voice is so soothing
Janeane is so beautiful and funny. I've had a crush on her since The Ben Stiller Show on Fox.
take a look at her now
The video description says it aired in 2000. Even without that info, I think the pattern on the solo cup already narrowed down the date to 1994-2003.
one of my all time favorite performances
I wanna see more/all of Janeane Garofalo’s hosting gig. Had no idea this had happened. Love her so much!
Looked her up. She's born in 1964.
She clearly doesn't age. At all
Agreed!!! Please post the bits with Bob Odenkirk and David Cross!!! 🙏🙏🙏
This is when David had surgery and had guest hosts?
She hosted only once. Every night had a different celebrity guest host until Dave recovered from his surgery. Not sure if she hosted anywhere else.
@@SaintMartins even so, we wanna see the entire episode!
I remember seeing this live(?) on broadcast TV. I can’t believe how much time has gone by.
If you have never seen his special Live at the Purple Onion, do it now. You're welcome.
Hasn't everyone seen that? Like 15 years ago?
5:38 "YOU GO GIRL!"
The pancake mix joke was definitely real
Word up!
I remember this! So great!
I KNEW THE TONY DANZA JOKE AS SOON AS HE SAID IT LMAO 🤣
Looks like this was from the time when Dave was having quintuple bypass surgery, as shown by Janeane Garofalo guest-hosting in this clip. Some of the other guest-hosts included Paul Shaffer, Regis Philbin, Kathie Lee Gifford, Charles Grodin, Drew Barrymore, Tom Snyder (the original host of The Late Late Show), and Tom Arnold.
And each one died under mysterious circumstances.
You know you have a drinking problem when the bartender knows your name... and you’ve never been to that bar before, LOL!
This is like Steven Wright set to soft piano music. Brillianly funny.
dude in the audience that yelled "you go, girl" passed the vibe check before they were even a thing
I was too young to see this live, I missed so much.
Brilliant Zack- one of the funniest people ever. Its impossible not to laugh, almost hysterically!
He hasn't done this bit while playing piano in awhile, it's soothing and hilarious at the same time. The music is a great counterpoint to the humor. 😂 🎹
Thanks for the Zack laughs, we need it desperately these days. 🕉
Failure and onions- I think we can all relate. 🎉 ✌️ ☮️ 🕊
So nice to see him before the Hollywood fame! Really enjoyed the performance on piano!
I met him once at a baseball game. He was really nice.
I used to live on the same island as him, met him several times. He had a very good reputation on the island.

They both look so young. 23 years ago!
5:38 - (from someone in the audience) "You go, girl!"
*Yeah. Can they put the camera back on Janeane Garofalo?*
Early 2000s < 3
You Go Girl!
Bumbershoot was amazing to grow up with
And that was the last time the word “wussy” was used on national television…..thanks Zac
Ah the old "only play the black keys" trick
Anytime this channel posts something about a celebrity I gotta Google and make sure they arent dead..
He's in an excellent film called "Below" from 2002. It's here on RUclips.
Live at the Purple Onion was the first thing I ever watched on the Netflix app when it started in 07 !
I think it's the first thing they produced with their money, the first netflix special ❤
You Rock Zach!
Good god this is hilarious, Zach is the undercover king
i'm Crying... Since he said "Please don't laugh"
Zach is legendary in everything. But we don't see enough Janeane either.
NAKED!
We've seen more than enough.

Zach is 53 years old and very much alive.....you ghouls !!!! Lol
So who died Danza or Garofalo?
Is anyone really alive?

Yep, 90s humor 😂
The beginning of the end
Damn that's talent.
He’s like Mitch hedgeberg on piano :)
That print on the paper cup tells me all I need to know about how old this video is.
5:38 - audience members yells "you go, girl!".
Having been an audience member at the Letterman show once, it strikes me as funny how silent the crowd got when he yelled. There was a cringe probably because the crowd handlers are always watching you. They told me to quiet down when I made a hooting sound instead of a regular cheer.
I made my television debut on the David Letterman show and all I got
was Jeanine Garofalo.
I LOVE THIS GUY LOL!!
Janine Garafalo is such a cutie here.
Such a funny comedian:
funny stuff, and thank goodness he's alive!
I don't know chit, but he has that natural funny where you just laugh and feel it inside
Little known fact: Zach was actually 7-year-old Baron Trump's nanny. He was fired by The Donald when Zach & Melania started getting far too "chummy" for The Donald's liking.
It took 9 more years till he blew up with the Hangover
Never saw this. He was so cute. haha Funny set.
Bo Burnham got an idea from Zach and Zach got an idea from Mitch Hedburg.
I see all three in one.
Zach is the best!!!!
2:12 I saw that one coming a mile away. He'd better use that line for that set-up.
He looks so young!
That cup ❤
Now I want a hug from 2000s Janeane Garolfalo....
Keep 'em coming fresh & still alive!

He had so much potential. Could you imagine where he'd be now if he got Kangaroo Jack?

failure and onions = funyuns
Gemine Gerflanafos!!! Total babe.
Galafarosky just straight up murdering.
What a genius.
When his sister called, I expected something like "Who's this? Your sister. Which one?"
First time I saw him was the movie Out cold, must have been a few years after his debut.
So good
I love that he does jokes about his name, even though he named himself that. This guy's an all-time greatest of the great.
What do you mean he named himself that? Zachary Galifianakis is his real name. Harry Galifianakis is his father.
How did he name himself? That's his birth name, genius. Zachary Knight Galifianakis.
This guy is actually broadly talented. I’ve only seen him in the drunken comedies. This shows him off in a much broader way,.. 👍
Should I ...should I do it ?! ..
He should have brought the Whos the boss callback for that ending joke it would have killed 😅
Naw
This is hilarious!
This is the longest late night set ever.
At 5:07 - something about pancake mix.
