Yes, finally got to the Sterling that's been sitting there begging for a video. I love this guitar, can't stop thinking about it. Going to have to buy it.
Got one, and love it. Been playing guitar now for 40 years. Have had many name brand guitars over those 40 years, so, Im not new to the game. I know quality and playability and feel when I see it. The Sterling Cutlass HSS is top quality. For $399, you cant beat it.
The VOLUME KNOB. As a tele guy…I picked it up, began playing and magic! I didn’t slam the volume knob on my first strum. 🤯 I want to snag a used one, but haven’t found a the SSS version anywhere to test out…
Glad to see Sterling has redeemed themselves, quality control-wise. I love that they're using roasted maple at that price point! Solid review as always Hunter! Keep up the great work!
I used to think the schecter nick johnston signnature was pretty good for $800 but it seems like the cutlass might be even better. You could definitely get $300 or less pickups and make it better. Definitely worth a look at.
Don't think they'd do that cause it's a JP sig and he doesn't use HSS afaik, which is a shame cause I love HSS but I also really like the Majesty shape.
Looks so rad. Instantly wanted to Buy. 499 Dollars are about 420€ - the retail in Germany is 699€ which is 823 Dollars🤦♂️ unfortunatley a no for me- for Little Bit More one could get a ibby AZ...
Seriously thinking about getting one of these! I was gonna grab a strat for playing at church, but I may have to get one of these instead. Looks pretty versatile.
These just sit on the racks at Guitar Center...yet they sound and play better than many Player Strats ($750) on those same racks. That neck and those pickups are LEGIT. AND they come with freakin locking tuners! I think that it's about subconscious negation due to branding; they have a different shaped pickguard and peghead that makes it an undesirable guitar. Ironically, the peghead is superior to Fender's because there are less tuning issues from string trees and the treble strings have a shorter overall distance. The truss rod access is at the base of the neck, too! That is so much more convenient. I wish I was independently wealthy; I would go to guitar center everyday and push Cutlasses into everyone's hands, asking in what legitimate ways a Sterling Cutlass doesn't measure up to a Fender Strat.
Everyone I’ve tried has been incredibly consistent and feels great! I just wish sterling and fender had lower string action as a factory standard but thts just a personal gripe
Hey Hunter, you got me again and I had bad gas almost immediatly for this new CT50 HSS in firemist silver. I've had it now for a month and am blown away by the feel and can't get over how good its action is after I set it up. I'm still suffering from gas unfortunately and have already ordered all new SD pups for it! TB-14 for the bridge and a couple of Custom Flat Strat SCs. It just wasn't up to par with its stable mates.
This seems like dare I say, the best 500 dollar mod platform guitar from a big brand!? Really tempted to get one and just whip a whole whack of stuff in there, new trem, new pups new pots, new tuners. That guitar has good 'bones'
It IS the best I’ve played in that price range from a big time manufacturer. The only competition was a Squier Contemporary HH Tele from 2019…but, not much to mod on it other than new pups and the neck was boring. So yeah, this wins.
You want stainless steel frets with roasted maple though. The wood becomes so hard that if you need to remove the old frets it might leave a really bad looking mess
Been waiting for this video since last video you got the guitar. Pretty amazing how it sounds and looks specially at that price point that won’t make my wallet cry!!!
I have the earlier version and I love it. Bought it as a mod platform and was super impressed when I got it out of the box. Frets were nice, neck felt awesome and the pickups actually sounded pretty good too. The only thing I ended up doing to it was replacing the tuners with some Hipshot locking tuners and putting a JB in the bridge. I liked the single coils enough to keep them.
@@philfort7886 I just used the humbucker because I had one lying around and it fit okay. Strings in the high e and low e are a little off center of the pole pieces, but it doesn’t make much difference in the sound. The trembucker might fit a little better though. I always thought the trembucker version sounded a little bit different than the humbucker.
Sneaking that last Ridge Wallet plug in there was a nice touch. haha Also, I'd love to see one of the Stingray guitars. One of them is in DAPHNE BLUE, Hunter.
I got an usa made cutlass. It is very nice. Pickups sound great on it. The trem stays in tune. Probably won't be my last ebmm. I really want a sabre next.

I am confused, I played this exact guitar at guitar center and the color was called "fire mist silver", but on the website fire mist silver is a light blue whereas this guitar (and the one I played at guitar center) was clearly gray/silver.

100% this may be my next guitar. I've wanted a passive guitar with plenty of tonal options. And roasted maple. This ticks all the boxes. I figure at most I'll swap the bridge pick up to a duncan pearly gates.
Not a bad idea. There was a used one locally with a new bridge pup modded with coil splitting, but the pole pieces didn’t line up. The dickhead had all the right ideas, but put in a humbucker that was too narrow and the coil split switch was put right between the knobs.
