Jensen as Soldier Boy was kind of a strange experience for me. Considering 'Bobby' (Robert SInger) is running for president in The Boys and Jensen's acting (which fit the character of SB perfectly)... It was kind of like "Dean WInchester gets transported to another timeline" Which was a bit surreal.

the way that Black Noir started talking to his cartoony imagination revealing his fears and motives was in my opinion incredibly creative to show his past and how he still has an imagination and personality in spite lacking his speech which was some incredible character development and it also made empathy towards the character so much more real which is often slept on.

Great season but I completely agree with your point about the show being scared to commit to the deaths of characters. There was no need for them to undo Queen Maeve's death, sacrificing herself was the perfect way for her character to complete her arc and it was a huge copout to see her end up alive afterwards. I also think that A-Train should have died at the end of the Herogasm episode. I loved his character this season but it felt like his arc was heading towards a natural end, ending with him getting revenge for his brother and then dying of a heart attack. I hope that his character development remains intact in Season 4!

Take nothing away from Anthony Starr as Homelander though. I agree Queen Maeve got lost in the shuffle but seeing her take it to Homelander made up for it. This is my favorite season so far. From the Termite scene to Mother's Milk getting... milked, there were a good amount of 😱 moments for sure. I love that he had a good long run with Supernatural (it really should've ended after s5 but THAT'S just my OPINION), but I'm glad he didn't just stop there. He did a few voice acting roles for DC, he played Jason Todd in Under the Red Hood and was INCREDIBLE, and upgraded to THE BATMAN himself in The Long Halloween. And here he's just stunning. Who cares if he got beat up, billions of kid have got at least one thrashing and they turn out all-right. What matter is taking down a fucking walking threat to existence.

The best part about Season 3 is just how much the lines are blurred between who's a hero and a villain. Homelander, while completely evil and psychotic, is made sympathetic throughout moments in this season to where it's hard to just see him as an immoral bad guy and Butcher is no longer the guy who needs to take down Homelander that we root for because the Temp V brings out the worst in him. Aside from Starlight, everyone commits good and bad acts and that's when you know you're in the hands of a good writer because you can't pick a side to be on because everyone lives in that gray area. So excited for what Season 4 will bring and PLEASE bring back Jensen Ackles' Soldier Boy because he stole every moment he was on screen.

They're two different powers, it's just that we are so used to seeing the two coupled together in every other super hero show that makes this feel underwhelming. Yes but that is the conundrum. If you are fighting for an idea, does sacrificing that idea invalidate your fight for it? Personally I'm with MM here, yes getting results is important but not at all cost and becoming the thing you are fighting against is a step too far. But Butcher was already over that line a long time ago, he is not a good person, and yes he suffered abuse, but that doesn't excuse everything. Many people suffer abuse and they are still kind to others and fight to better others life, without having to go over some. But this is why its interesting, its nuanced and debatable.

Also, the lack of grappling in these fights is frustrating.. I was at least expecting Maeve to pull out an armbar or something, even if Homelander just YeeTs her like a bag of trash I think it would've highlighted her skillset and months of training better.. plus it was Royce Gracie that proved size and strength don't matter, I hope they improve the fights in the coming seasons - the blow for blow shots get boring and are unrealistic

@@KetraarHughie is the better character to address the conundrum issue with. He isn't as ruthless as Butcher, nor is he idealistic as MM (or even Annie, but being a supe allows for more idealism because of the powers). He had tried to walk MM's path until finding out that he was working for a supe early on in the season opens his eyes to a reality that Butcher already understood. This realization hits him in the face harder as he tries to deal with his frustrations about his inability to protect the people he loves from Homelander. The same moral question that MM had to answer in regards to Soldier Boy, Hughie faces with Homelander. Just as his outlook is torn between Butcher's practical realism and MM's naive idealism, he walks the line between the two. He doesn't sacrifice his principles, because he isn't willing to let Butcher die to kill Homelander.

It didn't make me hate the show or anything, just compared to everything else felt like such a rushed way to get Soldier Boy locked up again. Also they really diminished Starlight's powers this season and it just made her look really lame but that's already been said by everyone.

The Frenchman and The Female honestly didn't have much backstory given to them in the comics and consequently the writers of the show have been left to ultimately come up with the majority of it by themselves. They did a good job giving The Female some backstory and a reason to exist in season two with her Lost Brother arc but I do feel they somewhat dropped the ball in this season when it comes to their attempts to give Frenchie a decent backstory. I do like how the show keeps emphasizing poor childhoods and bad parenting as a reason for everyone's messed up views on the world though.
Ultimately they kind of just have to do their best with what they've got in this season as they are deviating pretty drastically from the comic book pages and will have less and less to draw from as time moves on. The show has jumbled up the timeline pretty good but certain storylines are already at their mid/end-point in terms of the source material so things will have to be improvised more and more. However, the show has proven itself capable of doing exactly that so far, such as giving a much better reason for The Female to break Hughie's arm in half than what is given in the comic book. So I have faith in what is to come from The Boys and here's to hoping they get a better deal than they did in the Comic Book!

Season 3 was great until the finale, which I thought really really sucked.
    SPOILERS
    - Noir felt worthless and wasted, it felt like they were building something interesting.. nope, just useless mute.
    - Everybody is ok. I'd be find with this ending if I was watching a superhero show on CW, but I have.. slightly higher expectations here? The fact that stormtroopers starter shooting at Frenchie, and Maeve lost her powers to help everyone, then get exactly what she wants, all the good guys somehow all made it out ok. Bad guys including Dean Winchester also live and go back into the box, in case they need him later. All the same. If you're trying to relay from episode 1 of the show that it's a realistic take on the supe world, well I felt none of that in the finale.
    - Tom & Jerry reruns are fun aren't they? Go after Homelander, fail but all be ok by the finale. Then rinse & repeat every other season.
I was on the verge thinking this could be special, but it's just another show. It's fun, and that's where it ends.

I really like The Boys. Much like Stranger Things, it's one of the shows you hate to see end, and waiting for the next season seems to take forever.
As much as I like all of the cast, especially Erin Moriarty and Jack Quaid, no one deserves credit for making The Boys what it is more than Antony Starr. Homelander is terrifying not only because he can laser you to death or punch you to death or kill you in any number of ways, but because he is absolutely unhinged, and Antony Starr plays into that perfectly, especially nonverbally (when the lips start quivering, you better start shivering...sorry). If you didn't see how nice he is in interviews, you'd probably cross the street if you saw him in real life.

His arch reminded me of an evil version of One Punch Man in a weird way. Every time he was about to explode somebody or battle he had this look on his face like underneath the tough asshole exterior he just wanted a worthy opponent to help end it all. Also, Homelander was phenominal as usual but I think Maeve's final battle with him was a great way to show a truly flawed but strong female character. Her journey was complete coming back to being a hero after having her passion for heroism be reignited by Starlight and its cool she gets to live a normal life now. Without her powers and retired its basically the same as her being dead since she is out of the story but without a tragic end. I also think her dying there would really bring down the mood of the end of the finale which imo seemed pretty optimistic with Annie joining "the Boys" officially and it would also draw attention away from Butcher's terminal illness caused by Temp V. Also when she survives we get to see a little glimpse of compassion from Ashley that shows she isn't exclusively an evil corporate monster, which might be important in following seasons.

I procrastinated on watching this show forever for some dumb reason. Just started season 1 last week, and I was immediately hooked. Binged the hell out of it and just finished season 3 yesterday. Damn this show is so good, and season 3 was AWESOME! They’re so good at leaving you hanging at the end of a season and I can’t wait for season 4!
