    ok boys so dont know if this will help at all, but here goes....Shadow ace 750 - got v stacks and those kick ass backdraft exhausts. Also got those nifty air fuel screws that tj offers. I never rejetted a carb in my life. Let the turmoil begin. Ok so stacks on...pipes on...rejet with the bigger size pilots included with the performance kit. I get the bike back together and when i tell you, i could not get this fucking thing to stop backfiring. Im talking ak-47 on downshifts etc. After taking the duel carb off at least 6 times, i was ready to throw in the towel, straight up. I emailed tj who promptly replied that he can't diagnose a bike through the internet (makes sense) but all signs leaned towards too lean of a mixture. In one last effort of defiance, i went to the "pick your own jets" section. got the biggest (155 main - 55 pilot) ...shimmed the needles. Reluctantly I started the bike expecting it (or me) to catch on fire or god knows what. Let me tell you...two turns out on screws ...bike runs INCREDIBLE. Crisp response, no dead spots...NOT ONE SINGLE BACKFIRE. WAAAAAAY quicker and just night and day from stock. Pipes sound loud and growl beautifully as I rip past my douche bag neighbors house at 8 am on a sunday. Moral of the story....have patience. TAKE YOUR TIME. You will get it and when you finally do, you will do the cabbage patch naked on your roof in triumphant celebration.

    My bike keeps blowing out fuel out the blow by after setting up a few days even with peacock trund off . Have changed out gas cap to see it makes a difference . Bike is stock 600 /05 can you help me love your show

      What are your thoughts on switching to other carburetors ? I been seeing some switch to more old sing slide or flat slide carburetors .

    So far, I bought TJB jet kit for my '05 vlx 600 and have been banging my head. The results seem like they're completely counter-intuitive. I went from Vance & Hines baffled pipes to shorty/no baffle pipes. Stock air filter was removed and replaced with something similar to velocity stack. I took out the #45 jet and put in the #48 jet from TJB along with the new pilot jet and put the spacer on the needle. Somewhat of a rough idle & BAD sputter from 3/4 to full throttle. Went up a jet size - same. Got my buddy to ride behind me to see if he could notice anything: Lots of black smoke during sputter. Eventually, it fouled all 4 plugs & wouldn't start. I went back to stock jet settings and it definitely idles a thousand times better. Haven't been able to ride yet due to rain & miserable weather. Hopefully in a few days, I'll be able to see if the stock jet settings are better. Everything I've ever learned about carbeuration tells me it should have taken more fuel since I was theoretically taking in more air & able to flow more through the pipes. It seems that is the complete opposite of what is actually happening. Any thoughts on this???? I want to ride, but also don't want to smoke my pistons & heads running too lean (if that's actually what I'm going to be doing).

      Weather finally got nice and tested my changes. Turns out, the bike was running WAYYYY too rich when I got it. Original jets plus having to lean it with the TJB tuning knob worked PERFECTLY. I thought the 600 was just a puny bike, but enough to just cruise around town. Top speed was about 80mph. Now, it runs like a bat out of hell. Acceleration is greatly improved - even with a rear sprocket swap with 2 less teeth, it accelerates through 80mph with no problem. Very odd series of events, but happy now.

    Edit: After pulling the carbs off a few more time I got it. I had Vacuum leaks From the open ports from me removing the stock airbox to install velocity stacks I thought I had them plugged but was still allowing air in.
    I'm at 5,000ft I went with jets
    Main 145
    Pilot 45
    2 1/2 turns on the mix
    Fuel pump
    2 fuel filters in and out from the pump
    I didn't get that turning sheet and I'm having nothing but problems
    Idles just fine but when I give it a quick flick of the gas it wants to die. Give it slow and it Revs up but can't get it to run right at all can't even get it into 1st gear with out dying. 145/45 jets Velocity stecks in open pipes
    96 vlx 600 Dual carb

      The tuning sheet makes no sense. We end step by step instructions not just tune it to quarter and then ahalf and then whatever

    I have a 1996 Honda shadow 600 it Boggs almost to shut off full throttle I can’t figure this out I put new carb brand new and same thing

    Know what? Carbs is a dark art for me, even the Amal on my 1959 BSA, a more basic and beautiful piece of engineering you won't find anywhere else, baffles the shit out of me. So the two hulking great carbs on my honda 600 vt which resemble lunar module eggs are fucking bewildering.
    Jet size and air/fuel mix and idle and and and...is there a klutz's guide to how the carb works?
    I do everything on my bikes except 2 things... carbs and electrics.
    There. I've bared my soul to the internet.

      I've done electrics, and I get closer to killing myself each time I have to mess with it. hahaha
      I don't mess with carbs at all. Last time I did, I did something that a mechanic had to fix. haha

      the 400 if paired with stacks and open exhaust runs really well with the 600 stock tuning kit. use the smaller jet sizes.

    Question. I have a 95 shadow ACE 1100. Got it back from a guy who claimed he cleaned our carb and did various other things, said it was just my stator. New battery, stator looks good, about to do new plugs. However, she will backfire really hard and just die. What do I need to do? I'm thinking an issue with my fuel or my vacuum. But I'm not sure

    I bought a 05 honda shadow spirit and on the title it says vt750c but when you look that up online it says the vt750c is a aero but mine is a spirit...I'm very confused

      in my experience, no, you need to put the engine under load. actually ride it to test all the throttle stages.

    I hope you see this, iv just done a carb rebuild on my 2003 shadow ace. Front carb set to 2 turns out rear carb set to 2 1/2 turns out got it fired up runs decent at idle and through 1/4 throttle after that power drops off drastically with back fire and sputtering. The rear carb intake has a decent hiss in every throttle position except idle but the front carb doesn’t have this hiss which concerns me. Could really use the help if anyone could give me a hand I’d appreciate it

      @@TheElementalPhoenix1911 I had put velocity stacks on and eliminated the stock intake and the stacks didn’t restrict enough air flow to allow the bike to run properly, it was choking it’s self out every time I gave it throttle. I put the stock intake back on and did some fine tuning and she runs like a champ now idk if that helps you any but that’s what fixed my problem

    My Honda Shadow 750 starts and idles fine. It revs fine also. The issue is as soon as I ride it it misses and backfires.

      @@colincoyle4325 I parted that one put and bought another one thats runs perfect. After working on it for a while it could have been anything that caused it but I think it was either needing valves
      adjusted, or new pulse generator. My cousin had one the same year and we would swap parts out trying to figure it out and those were pretty much the last things I didn't do
