Some time ago i was going out with colleagues, we went to a shooting range first and a restaurant second. We had to travel from first place to second, from outskirts to the centre of the city. I waited for my colleagues to get into a cab and then rode an EUC. I was quicker than them by a lot, scouted the place and got us a table. One of the newer colleagues was very impressed

Bicycle Commuter 30 years-Current. Motorcycle rider: 25 years. Zero car accidents. I stopped riding a motorcycle because the car traffic was becoming more and more aggressive and dangerous. You HAVE to be on the street with cars on a motorcycle. A bicycle, you have more options. An EUC, what I LOVE about them is you can morph seamlessly from pedestrian, to bicycle, to car. One moment, you are a car traveling at 35 mph. In an instant, you can turn onto the crowded sidewalk, can travel with pedestrians at walking speed, or meander on a quiet wooded trail. See a nice bike path along the water? You transform into a bicycle in an instant. As amazing as EUCs are (I have three), the good ole’ pedal driven bicycle is superior in my eyes, and still competes well (like at 4:14). Powered by your muscles, nearly infinite range, great in all kinds of weather, cheap and simple to operate and maintain, and keeps you fit. Unlike the bicycle, the EUC is the “motorcycle” I wish I had 25 years ago. It is my yesterday’s tomorrow. A futuristic machine linked directly to my mind. I am so grateful that I got the opportunity to EXPERIENCE an EUC in my lifetime today.

@@ChrisH0Y Oh damn, I imagine fast-paced future ground combat with jumping and what have you. One of the pitfalls of riding an EUC, in my opinion, is the need for full body gear at large speeds. I remember reading somewhere that the US military are already working on genetically modifying skin to be more resistant to different sorts of damage. This could be the next step evolutionary while the wheel under the human is already a giant leap forward. I've only been riding for 3 days and already thinking of ditching my Mercedes which I love. Another reason could be fuel. We now have huge problems here in Ukraine with fuel and transport in general. You can stand in line for 5 or more hours and end up not refueling. My family and I are now just praying on our m365 scooter, it helps a lot when we need to take groceries to our relatives. Traffic could be reformed. Inner city could be carless, better air, better and more durable streets without heavy cars. The amount of space a city with 1 million citizen wastes for garages, car pools, parking spots in the city, supermarkets .. is madness.

+1. Thanks Adam, you nailed it. I would add also the POV. On an EUC your point of view is higher than even an SUV. So your capability to see in advance the risks ahead is higher. Therefore easier to prevent when having just common sense and respect to others. We were designed by evolution as the monkeys that run. Our senses did not evolved to move while seated. EUCs are the closest transport devices to the natural experience of moving from A to B. Their small size also allows to move around people without bothering and at similar pace. A great EUC does not have to be the most expensive, fast or heavy. Take care and thanks for representing so many of us with these thoughts.

As a person came from BMX/MTB world, I would say that huge pro of EUC is almost zero maintenance. Even though dirt MTB / BMX are super simple and robust, anyway you need to check and regulary maintain your chain and breaks at least! Chain needs to be cleaned and lubed each 2 weeks if you actively riding, it fucking annoying. Chain replacement each 2 month, sprockets once per season. It's not a big deal, but on EUC you don't have to spent time and money on these things at all.

It was so refreshing to hear EVERYTHING you’ve said about EUCs. It’s exactly the same reason I love them. I loved hearing even the “weeee” sounds. Because again, I feel exactly the same way. I’ve been riding now for more than 3 years. I might have actually just passed 4 years now.
However, I just DID get my motorcycle endorsement on my license here in the US so that I could also ride a motorcycle. And so far there are only two reasons I can think about for why I did want a motorcycle license and motorcycle. And that is one, so that I can ride and enjoy a hobby that takes me places WITH my wife. She is far to uncomfortable to ride an EUC and I don’t think that will change. And two, it is much more enjoyable to go an extremely long distance on a motorcycle than it is on an EUC, in my particular circumstance. I still love going on multiple hundred mile range rides on an EUC but they do require lots of planning and I can’t do them with my wife.
But with that said, I completely agree with everything else you said. The EUC wins in nearly 100% of the cases for me.

  • @rcgldr

Part of this depends on location and circumstances. I ride a 2001 Hayabusa motorcycle. I live in southern California, and before I retired (I"m 70 years old now), I used it to commute in the car pool lane on the freeways. In California, it's legal for motorcycles to split lanes, and the lanes on most streets are wide enough to do this. Most of the streets in my area have speed limits of 72 kph (45 mph) to 88 kph (55 mph) so I wouldn't feel safe on an EUC on those streets, despite having bike lanes on some of them. I also have a car that I use when weather isn't good. I didn't get an EUC until last August (I bought an V8F), and only use it for fun rides on local paved bike trails, mostly at 20 to 25 kph.

I ride motorcycles for 4 years now. After four different classes i ended up with 400cc scooter. Despite it being 400cc i still felt i could get in trouble some day, so i gave EUC a try (V12 after all the amazing reviews it got), but sold it after 300km because of the issues it could potentially have with mosfets. I usually rode in the streets at 50-60 km/h together with all the traffic. And it was a stressful experience by itself, but knowing that at any given moment be it now or 3000kms later i could just wipe out in the middle of street gave even bigger amounts of stress. As you mentioned, we are all beta testers because EUCs are still in their infancy. Those who ride outdoors or on bicycle paths maybe have different impressions, but it's just too risky to use it in streets with all the traffic, potholes, long braking distance and a chance of random cut out that may or may not happen.
I am back on my 400cc, but i'll be looking at EUCs scene for a reliable and finished product i could use safely in the streets.

I have been watching your videos for a bit now, and have been going back and forth between the various options you covered here. You answered pretty much all my questions, with a great visualization of what that route might look where I am. I love embracing the bike paths, river boulevards, parkways, etc. By studying the original major throughways in the city, You can usually find routes that are very efficient for getting across town, while not always as busy as some of the higher paced roads more recently built are. One thing I have loved living in Minnesota, is a great appreciation for this type of intention. Using these in off peak time, can be incredibly efficient for getting around town, and even maintained here through the winter. I have commuted by bicycle around town for years, so I think this will be a fun upgrade to allow me to cover more ground, without having to put as much effort in by the time I reach my destination.

You are so right in all aspects of this, Adam. The only other thing I recall being as much fun as a EUC in my very long lifetime is a mountain bike when they first came out. There is a part of me that hopes the EUC will never be as popular as a mountain bike because when they substantially increase in numbers, irresponsible people will annoy and harm other road users and restrictions will be put in place. In the US, there was a big battle between equestrians, pedestrians, and mountain bikers over trail use. And yes, even going slow and braking are fun.

Electric unicycle is simply the best transport available, I have a really nice electric bike which I used a lot until I started ride EUC, now I never use it
It's simply a greater freedom and more fun to ride euc It's hard to describe but there is a connection or a fusion of human and machine which is unique, maybe because there it's a handlebar as you speak.
I will never stop ride electric unicycle

I figured if I don't like it I can return it thanks to Amazon's return policy. The second I got on I decided to never sell it. It's such a fun method of transportation and it's a great hobby.

Just learning EUC (waiting for my V12 to get updated board) but best description I have is, it's not like using a motor bike or any device. It's like gaining a new super power, because you just think about where you want to go, and it happens.... but FAST. Almost like flying.

I have one and it was a very very efficient last mile transport. It is compact, small, you can take it in buildings, trains, buses, it has such a small footprint, maneuvering even through crowds are very easy. However this was not accepted very well by authorities here. It s being unofficially banned by trains, cities, public transport and never took off. The public transport in Malaysia is not the best and last mile transport like the euc could really relief the city traffic.

Have a motorcycle - I use it when it matters. Learning to ride my KS S18, not good at it yet. But... the S18 has quite a few unique ways it fits into my life, and you spelled out most of them. Of particular use for me is the ability to drive somewhere w/ the wheel in my car, and sooooo many times, as a photo enthusiast, I see something ANYWHERE that I want to stop and take a picture but can't - no place to pull a car over - well I can drive to a convenient spot, even a mile away, too far to walk, get my wheel out and go back to it. You pointed it out w/ your smart phone camera. This actually was my main reason a while back why I got the wheel. But now starting to have so much other fun too. Nice video, thanks.

0:30 Supermoto, ADV, Dual Sport and many (most?) naked motorcycles would fit there, some of them even better than your wheel.
1:24 You can park motorcycles almost anywhere.
2:20 You "charge" a motorcycle on the petrol station and you get 200-600km range on a single "charge".
5:32 You are spending quite some time on the roads (which on roads above 30kph I think is illegal on an EUC, anyway), and on roads you are far safer on a motorcycle than on EUC.
8:53 Same on the motorbike. Maybe to a slightly lower degree (2 wheels, higher weight), but very similar.
17:55 In terms of OC, I'm paying 140zł for 900cc bike and 160zł for 1000cc sport bike.
18:17 Hate to brake it to you, but most of electricty is generated from fossil fuels.
In summary, EUCs have some great unique advantages, but many of your points are false. They also have some significant disadvantages vs motorbikes - like you can't go on a 200km ride over twisty roads for 2 hours. So EUC is not instead of a motorcycle, they complement each other.

Great video. The main reason i ride an euc is for its portability. I'm a semi-truck driver so i like to throw my euc in my cab, and then park my truck, and take the euc into areas where my truck can't fit... A bicycle, even a folding bike, is too big. And the wheels on a portable scooter or skateboard is too small. EUCs are perfect for me.
